An early start this morning for TheMakeupGirl Team, we were at The Inn Woburn – Beds to beautify the lovely bride Sarah and her bridal party of 3 bridesmaids and mum-of-groom (MOG) The ceremony was taking place at the Abbey and then the reception at The Sculpture Gallery. A gorgeous, crisp, sunny day.

Sarah chose to wear her hair part up with loose curls. Her complexion was flawless, Sarah doesn’t usually wear any make up so didn’t want to look plastered on her wedding day! She wanted to look radiant and beautiful and still remain recognisable by here guests and most importantly by her groom (James)

Congratulations Sarah & James, we wish you a very happy future together as Mr & Mrs

Top Lip Balms

My top lipbalms to help keep your lips soft and kissable throughout winter, lets face it ladies – cracked, chapped, dry and flaky lips are not attractive!

1, Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream – this is my favourite and I can’t live without this product also good on dry cuticles! Or you can buy the Lip Protectant only – around £25 or more!

2, Kiehl’s Lip Balm – is available in Cranberry, Mango and Vanilla flavours. I prefer the original – £9.50

3, Burt’s Bees Natural Lip Balm – with coconut and sunflower oils to nourish and soften lips – £3.49

4, Carmex – an old favourite and now in Cherry Flavour perfect handbag size – £2.44

Organic Make-up Photoshoot

On a recent shoot I had to leave my usual make up range behind and use a
brand of products that had been chosen for the photo shoot. This was a project
for Freja Magazine due to be launched next year. The photographer Ester Keate
wanted to create flawless, organic, natural images of our model in the nude
against a nude backdrop. My job as a make up artist is to stick to brief and
create the look my client has requested.

The make up range that I used is called Une the company that make Bourjois
make up are behind this range of 99.9% organic and free from chemical range. I
can tell you that is was an interesting shoot! The model arrived full of cold,
red raw nose, quite a few pimples and of course not being able to use my usual camouflage
or corrective make up that I carry for emergencies such as this….I did have a
mild panic! But after quite a lot of foundation; liquid and cream foundation
from this range I managed to create a flawless finish. It did take a lot longer
than it would if I was using MAC or MUF foundation but this shoot was all about
looking natural using natural.

So, this makes me wonder – what goes into “regular” make up that
makes it so creamy, so blend-able and rich in pigment, texture, colour,
life….???

Shortlisted for Wedding Industry Awards 2012

I am pleased to announce that The Make-up Girl has been shortlisted for the award in Make-up Artist category, within the London and South East region. Out of hundreds of companies/artists we have made it in the shortlist. This is a tough region as it is the whole of London, Kent, Essex, Sussex, Hertfordshire,. Bucks and beyond!

Let’s hope we win as there will be a big party

I love my job, I love the variety of clients and projects I am asked to work with. No two weeks are the same. Last week as well beautifying my lovely brides, I was asked to make up 12 models for a video shoot in Islington, and the week before a lingerie and swimwear shoot with an up and coming designer Rae-Emily Smith for Artemis South.
