Computer Repair Pros and Cons

Computer Repair Pros and Cons

We live in a world where we quickly discard old or worn out appliances or computers. We sometimes do this even when there is really no good reason for doing so. We want fast and better computers and Laptops and sometimes discard computers that have years of good service left in them. If our computing needs have not changed a great deal then our hardware needs will not have changed either. We have mostly moved on to LCD screens and that is understandable who wants a chunky CRT monitor on their desk. But other hardware is often upgradeable for little cost.

So the all important question arises do we do a computer repair or do we replace ? Fair question and the answer is reasonably easy. Answer just a few basic questions and you will have a good basis on which to make a decision.

Is the fault with the computer a hardware or software fault (software is normally easy enough to resolve).

Does the existing computer under normal circumstances (when working properly) do all that you require of it.

Is the computer doing a critical role in your business or home

Is there any evidence or hardware deterioration (a Technician can quickly see potential hardware issues).

With these basic questions answered the computer repair decision becomes clearer. It is true that sometimes it is more cost effective to repair than to replace. It may also be possible to use some of the part from your existing computer rather than replace everything. Certainly the monitor can be reused. You may want to keep your favorite keyboard and mouse and you may even be able to use other parts. Using peripherals makes perfect sense and these external parts can be replaced at any time. So the computer repair question becomes easier to answer. The staff at Easy Technology are happy to assist you in your evaluation process. Computer repair while a core party of our business is only part and we will give you professional advice and let you make that informed decision.

The bottom line to consider when evaluating this issue is what is the value of the data on the computer how is that data backed up and how much inconvenience or lack of productivity would you suffer if that computer was not working for any period of time.

All things considered the pros and cons of computer repair are your judgement call it may well be worth getting some professional advice to assist in making that call.

Laptop Repair or Replace

Repair or Replace ? Great question. Your answer might depend on who you ask. If you ask a salesperson at a chain store that sells new laptops they are likely going to
say replace (No surprises there then). The reality is that many laptops are replaced that could be repaired with little time or cost and extend the life of the laptop by a
year or more. the other issues is the time in setting up the laptop and getting your data back. The cost of this time can be significant and needs to be considered when
looking at the options.
A good laptop service company will evaluate the age and condition of the laptop the repairs required and the cost to replace. Its always an issue of weighing up the
Positives and negatives in the repair process. There are occasions when the answer is obvious eg the mainboard has failed and can’t be repaired the cost of a new
mainboard for the 3 yr old laptop is more that the cost of a new laptop off the shelf today. That one doesn’t take too much thought. Just remove the hard drive from the
old laptop put it into and external hard drive enclosure and you have all your data and a brand new laptop. problem Solved.

Kerry and Graham are professionals who will give you their professional advice on the laptop repair job you are considering.
Some of the considerations:
General condition of the laptop
Brightness of the screen
Speed of the laptop
Amount of data on laptop and size of Hard Drive
Version of operating system
Amount of ram
Cost of repair
Expected life span of laptop after repair (only ever an estimate)
Cost of suitable replacement
Number of faults present in the laptop.
Condition of the battery if laptop is used as portable device.

This is a rough guide to the factors to be considered.

New or Used

New or Used Laptop.

Great question again. In today’s age of technology computers and laptops change at an ever increasing rate. The deal is that many laptops leased to large corporations are refurbished and resold with a lot of life let in them. Often these laptops are of a commercial quality and as such are more robust and have more features than some cheaper home laptops and computers. Personally I have used refurbished laptops for the last 7 years and have had no problems with any of these laptops. There are some things to keep in mind. The following is a short list of the factors to consider in a new or used laptop PC.

Hard Drive size

Ram

Processor Speed

internet connectivity (is it wireless / do you need wireless?)

Screen size and condition

Overall condition appearance. (if a laptop is rough looking it may have had a hard life and this will impact on the expected lifespan of the laptop.

Many people do not necessarily need the newest and fastest of everything. A concept that i have always used is that you don’t need a V8 to do your grocery shopping the same applies with computers you don’t need huge hard drive size if all you want to do is email and some documents. If on the other hand you want to play online 3D games then you are looking for a very different laptop and may well have to buy new.

It really comes down to your use for the laptop or computer and your budget.

Whichever you choose make sure all the software is legit and that there is a fresh install of windows. You really don’t want the data from a previous owners sitting on your laptop.

New or Used Laptop or computer? It really does depend on your computing needs and of course your budget.

Simple Repairs

Laptop repairs:

So you have a problem with your laptop? Thats not uncommon so where can you take it to get services in Hamilton?
Laptop repair isn’t always easy and unless you know what you are doing is really best left to a professional. There are
some jobs that you could do yourself (like install Ram on most models) other tasks are much more complicated and if the taks involves the possible loss of data then I strongly recommend that you have aprofessional do the job for you. If you don’t have a backup what is the value of the data you have on that hard disk drive. A few dollars saved by trying to do the reapir yourself could be small in comparison with lost photos music movies and documents.

Some of the laptop problems many of us face today and for which we need to consult an experienced technician include laptop overheating, laptop DC power jack repair, laptop won’t turn on issues, laptop needs more memory, laptop running slow, laptop shutting down constantly, laptop needs an upgrade, laptop motherboard installation, laptop software and many more.

You have choices when it comes to having your laptop serviced if it is out of warranty and often if it is under warranty and is just a software fault that again is your responsibility and does not need to go to a brand authorised (normally more expensive) service center.

A few dollars spend on a professional laptop repair service is normally money well spent.
