A little different this time as the duo are covering Britain (did the budget run out for more exotic travel?). They will be traversing the nation hunting for authentic drinks and produce - which includes cider, bitter, wine and, bizarrely, milk!

Sadly that is all the details I have. No word on broadcast dates or anything! We shall just have to wait.

Bake a cake during the summer break! Get your aprons on because UKTV Food wants your favourite cake recipes.

If your cake passes muster then they will make your cake on Market Kitchen and you’ll win a fantastic Kenwood Chef!

We’re looking for original cake recipes – your own creation or a family favourite passed down the generations. Because of copyright laws we can’t accept any recipes that are not owned by you.

From classic sponges to dainty cupcakes, fruity celebration cakes, and cream-laden gateau – we’re looking for those recipes that are important to you. For this competition, our definition of cake is a broad one – baked, sweet, and including sponge in some form, with or without icing and toppings.

Traybakes, although delicious aren’t what we’re looking for on this occasion – so holdback on sending in recipes for flapjacks, millionaire’s shortbread, and goodies of this ilk. Same goes for Danish pastries, cookies and confectionery.”

More rules and entry form on the UKTV website.

I recall a photograph of a mass of cherry trees in a village nearby my childhood home. There wasn’t a single tree remaining as I grew up. Which isn’t surprising as the country has lost a vast majority of its cherry orchards over the last fifty years. Kent alone has lost 85 per cent of its orchards.

Step forward Henrietta Green of FoodLoverBritain and a campaign - Cherry Aid - that aims to Get everyone to bite into at least one British-grown Cherry this year, Save our remaining traditional Cherry orchards and plant new ones, and encourage chefs, restaurateurs and home-cooks to use British-grown Cherries.

The campaign culminates in National Cherry Day which is tomorrow, 19th July.

On National Cherry Day Henrietta will be at Borough Market, sampling the specially-made Cherry Down Cheese from the Kent Cheese Co from Sillfield Farm stall, who will also be selling their Wild Boar & Cherry pie. Turnips and E & A Sugarman will be selling fresh English cherries from their stalls, so make sure you pick up a bag as you go past and Utobeer will be doing a sampling of British cherry beer.

Elsewhere Food Inc in Whiteleys will have fresh cherries and a range of cherry-based products to buy; The Ludlow Food Centre in Shropshire will be selling traditional variety cherries and cherry ice cream.

As part of the multi million pound investment by House of Fraser in Jenners, Princes Street, and to re-establish the excitement and glamour of the world’s oldest department store, House of Fraser has joined forces with Scotland’s oldest continental grocers, Valvona & Crolla, in a unique and exciting partnership, to take over the famous food hall.

The food hall will be filled with the best produce from Scotland’s own producers as well as finest quality food and wine selected from European artisan producers and specialists. In addition, Valvona & Crolla are also taking over the smaller food hall in Jenners on Loch Lomond Shores. The major revamp will also see celebrity chef James Martin brought in to modernise the stores restaurant.

Valvona & Crolla is a family-owned and managed business. Over four generations, the company has received accolades for wine, food and quality of service and has most recently been awarded the Royal Warrant to supply cheese to Her Majesty the Queen.

We are delighted by this exciting new partnership. Like Jenners, the Valvona & Crolla name is steeped in history and is an important part of Edinburgh’s appeal. This collaboration is part of our on-going plan to add exciting new brands into our stores, alongside the investment we are making inside Jenners. We are confident our customers will enjoy the new look store.

Video clips feature prominently from Ching explaining her cooking influences and how she’s brought her grandmother’s recipes up-to-date through to the art of using a Chinese meat cleaver, slicing veggies and meat into fancy shapes and cutting a whole roast duck into pieces. Recipes so far on display include those for Beef in Oyster Sauce, Chicken chow mein and Beef in oyster sauce (all from the first episode).

The Bring on the Salads website is run by those marvellous people who supply the UK’s supermarkets with bagged, washed and ready-to-eat salads. They even have a name - The Fresh Prepared Salads Producer Group; who knew there was such a thing?

Still this post is concerned with the website! As you might expect from a group seeking to promote their products there is plenty of details on Salad Bag Nutrition and the UK Salad Season. In addition though there is a handy recipe section and a free recipe book to request.

Salad bags are a great way to help you towards the recommended daily intake of fruit and vegetables. They are also quick, convenient, and low in calories. For great recipe ideas why not check out our new seasonal recipes? For further salad recipes you can request a FREE copy of our booklet ‘Salads are not just for Summer’, which is packed full of recipe tips and handy hints.

More interesting perhaps is the inviting to ‘grab a salad bag and let your imagination run wild’! They are asking the British nation to invent a brand new, tasty salad recipe. The winner will receive a cash prize of £1,000 and the opportunity to have their recipe published nationwide. Full details on the site.
