Berco UK has officially marked its relocation to a new larger factory and office in Spennymoor by announcing plans to double its workforce during the next few years. Helen Goodman, MP for Bishop Auckland, officially opened Bercos new site in Spennymoor, heralding the arrival of the company as a welcome boost to the towns economy with the promise of new jobs. Berco whose HQs is based in Italy - is the world leader in the manufacture of undercarriage components and systems for tracked vehicles, and sells its products to customers around the world

Spennymoor Consultation Launched

Residents in Spennymoor will be given a chance to view the towns new Durham Gate development as part of a pre-application consultation period being launched next week (W/C July 14). Durham Gate, current home of Black & Decker, is a new 60 acre redevelopment project by the Carillion Arlington Real Estate (CARE) Partnership. An application for outline planning permission to revitalise the site is anticipated to be submitted to Sedgefield Borough Council in early August. Visit the Durham Gate Website

Priory Healthcare TV Programme One - resistant depression

Priory Healthcare News launched with Professor Chris Thompson examining the complex issue of resistant depression. Polam Hall pupils outstanding musical achievement

A Polam Hall School pupil has proved she is years ahead of her peers when it comes to her musical ability. Lucy Walker, aged nine, has passed Grade 7 with distinction in her London College of Music Jazz syllabus examinations. The usual progression is for musicians to take one grade a year and therefore take seven years to get to Lucys level. Lucy has managed this four years ahead of the normal schedule.

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in Yorkshire and the Humber celebrated the first anniversary of the Skills Pledge with a tour of some of the regions employers. The tour was designed to showcase some of Yorkshire and the Humbers skills-savy employers who have realised that an investment in the skills of its workforce can increase the success and profitability of their organisations. Joined by Yorkshire-born entrepreneur James Averdieck, founder and managing director of the well-known luxury chocolate pudding makers Gü, the LSC visited a cross-section of employers who have all made the Skills Pledge.
