Greenpeace report that with around 80 per cent of fish stocks in trouble, species driven to extinction and ecosystems on the brink of collapse, it’s time to rethink how we harvest our oceans. This new video shows how Greenpeace has been encouraging retailers to clean up their seafood shelves – by switching to a sustainable seafood sourcing policy they can change the world’s fisheries and help to protect the world’s oceans.

In the North Sea, cod stocks have been depleted due to relentless over fishing. In the Mediterranean, northern bluefin tuna are on the brink of collapse, and yet they are still being served up as expensive sushi in restaurants such as Nobu.

Frustrated with the slow progress in fisheries management, we’ve been reaching out to those deciding on the seafood that ends up on our shelves. As awareness about overfishing and the pressure from customer rises, retailers are beginning to change their seafood sourcing policies.

You can pledge to protect bluefin tuna by signing a Greenpeace pledge not to eat it. Greenpeace will use your pledge to help put pressure on the companies still trading in bluefin tuna, and the politicians who let it happen.

Armed with small handy cams undercover Video Journalists in Burma keep up the flow of news from their closed country. Going beyond the occasional news clip from Burma, acclaimed director Anders Ostergaard, brings us close to the video journalists who deliver the footage. Though risking torture and life in jail, courageous young citizens of Burma live the essence of journalism as they insist on keeping up the flow of news from their closed country. The Burma VJs stop at nothing to make their reportages from the streets of Rangoon. (www.burmavj.com)

As Aung San Suu Kyi faces trial, this film is being released to highlight the oppression that occurs within Burma. Thousands of political prisoners, including Suu Kyi, remain in detention. Until they are released there can be no genuine improvement in the human rights situation in Burma.

Looks like the Wiyos are now on the road to some great exposure. Maverick Magazine reports: following their success at the Barbican’s Folk America series with Seasick Steve in January, Brooklyn-based four-piece the Wiyos have been working non-stop ever since and landed their busiest summer ever—a 27-date US run opening for the Bob Dylan/ Willie Nelson/John Mellencamp tour of mid-range baseball stadiums. That was perfect timing for the band, who had a brand new album released on July 1 and began a major radio push in the UK in the build-up to their return here for a string of dates in January 2010. The album, a follow-up to their 2007-issued CD, THE WIYOS, is the first release to feature Teddy Webber who has recently joined the band from the Hunger Mountain Boys.

Well done boys!

No better way to describer this music than Zydeco Punk…the track that I chose for the Frukie stream is from their album Le Grand Bleu. Check out this video…the album is not as full on as this track and has a stronger Zydeco sound as well as Americana and Rock crossover. Watch the Video:

I’ve just been listening to Jorge Carfune, here is his biography:

Jorge Antonio Cafrune (Jujuy , August 8th 1937 – Buenos Aires , February 1st 1978 ) was a one of the most popular argentinian folklorist singers of his time, aside from be a unflagging investigator, compilator and diffuser of the native culture.

Jorge Cafrune was born in the estancia “La Matilde” of El Sunchal , Perico Del Carmén , Jujuy . He completed his secondary studies in San Salvador de Jujuy, during which he took guitar classes with Nicolas Lamadrid.

In 1957 he recorded his first disk with the band Las voces de Huayra that in 1960 changed its name to Los cantores del Alba, with Ariel Ramirez as manager. Beginning in 1962 , Cafrune began to perform at the Cosquin Folkloric Festival . In 1966 in one of his visits to smaller villages, he met a young folklorist singer called José Larralde .

In 1967 shown the trip “De caballo por mi patria” in homage to Chacho Peñaloza . During this trip Cafrune traveled about Argentina as had many gauchos, taking his art and message around the country.

In 1977, after several years spent living in Spain, he returned to his country. Times were difficult for the Argentine, as the government was under the restrictive military dictatorship of Jorge Rafael Videla . The government saw a menace in Cafrune’s outspoken music, and in particular one politically controversial song of his, Zamba de mi esperanza.
