With Porky otherwise unavailable, he sent representative DJ Shepdog for the first of five visits west, the last of which – we kid you not – in a private investigative capacity, with button hole camera and other recording tech-trickery. Shep has since established the Nice Up! label, and is a regular at Bestival and the Big Chill.

With his authentic blend of organic beats as Quantic Soul Orchestra ripping up floors across the country and his own solo shufflers having been championed by Kruder & Dorfmeister and Groove Armada, big things were expected of Will, who has since delivered with a slew of great releases. His set was almost entirely seven-inch orientated, dinked funk twelves – both contemporary and classic – rocking the floor.

Formed in California during the mid-1960s, the group fused a jazz sensibility with psych rock and experimental production techniques, though it was Morrison’s lyrics that truly set them apart from their contemporaries. Otherworldly and enigmatic, his wildman performances belied the tragedy which resulted in his demise to addiction and eventual death in 1971 from which the band never recovered.

Their complete story unfolds here, Johnny Depp’s narration unpicking the myth that surrounded the band whilst making connections between the success of their music and emerging schism between the state and its subjects, accelerated and accentuated through resistance to the US conflict in Vietnam. Ambitious and insightful.

“Both systems recognize the player’s body,” explains Guy Bendov, whose production house Side-Kick was behind some of the demos at E3. “Kinect covers more sensory technologies, such as speech as well as a set of body and personal motions, while Move is focused on accuracy and the upper area of the body. Microsoft’s system is entirely hands-free, while Move has physical remotes and buttons, and is kind of a cross between Wii and Kinect.”

“I can’t think of anything more exciting for game designers and developers than the introduction of gesture control,” he adds. “Wii was the first console to show that there were players out there who wanted to play physical games, but Kinect and Move take that experience forward by adding a stronger sense of depth and extending games into the real world.”

“There is a lot of interest in these interfaces and the promise is very intuitive game-play. For that to happen you have to run a lot of research, and we are currently in a transitional period where I think the next two years will be critical to development. The physical and real world aspect of playing makes the experience unique, though many existing games simply don’t work, while other games that were previously not considered to be doable, have now become viable. Fitness, music, dance and sports titles are the obvious fit, but we’re also testing other genre variations such as shooters and puzzle games which will expand the player’s environment beyond the screen.”
