Welcome to the new Tiger Web Blog.

From time to time our team of Designers and Developers will be using this space to post about up and coming projects, new developments, coding breakthroughs and anything Web related.

We thought we'd start of by sharing some great tips on how to get more from your website.

One of the free services we offer on all of our projects is SEO (search engine optimization). Most of our clients, when asked, have no idea what this is, so let me explain.

Wikipedia:
"Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site or a web page (such as a blog) from search engines via "natural" or un-paid search results"

In a nutshell, its helping search engines find out about your website, and getting your website higher up the search results. Making it more likely that people will visit your site when searching for relevant phrases or words on search engines such as Google or Yahoo.

Today we are going to focus on the search engine Google. Primarily because more then half of all searches on the web last year (2009) where done using Google. So pleasing the Google search engine is definitely in your best interests! To understand SEO you need to understand how search engines work. Here's a video from Google themselves, outlining how the Google search engine works.

Google:

Slightly cheesy yes, but very informative!

So now we know how the Google search engine works (Most other search engines are very similar in function), we can design our page content to suite our needs. Below i have listed all points that we cover on all projects to make sure that we achieve the best search results for you.

1. We make sure that all of your title tags contain relevant keywords. For example, if your site is www.mywebsite.com and you sell cars, instead of your title saying "My Website", it should say something like "My Website - Used Car Sales"

2. We makes sure you have enough text on your site. At a minimum we recommend 100 words. Search engines cannot read graphics. If your site is primarily graphic based, then it will have trouble getting good rankings.

3. We create Meta Tags for your site. Meta Tags are code hidden in the background that tell search engines what your keywords and descriptions are.

4. We make sure that your most important keywords appear about 3-8 times per 100 words.

We also advise on free web directory's that you can submit your site to that will help increase your search ranking and your traffic.

All of the above comes free of charge with any project, so why not give us a call today and see what we can do for you?
