#C - #Cousin (1C = 1st Cousin, 2C = 2nd Cousin etc.)

#R - # of times removed (1R = once removed, 2R = twice removed etc.)

Start with the common ancestor that links both you and another relative, work across the top to find your relatives relationship to them and down the side to find your relationship to them, next bring both results together in the body of the chart to find your relationship to each other.

I have decided, well the financial situation has decided actually...the web site (as much as i love it) is going to have to go.

The cost is the swaying factor now i can't work due to the health issues, i was hoping it would pay it's way with photo sales but it hasn't...maybe my photos just aren't good enough!

Oh well, i tried!...i will just have to stick to blogging i guess.

I have a dilemma!

The place i have my photography site has now installed a blog feature, it is a long awaited and much requested feature and now it's here, it's not as good as this place for blogging just yet, there are some much needed features missing and i dare say there'll be a few wrinkles to iron out but it's new so i'd expect that, over time they will no doubt add all the bells and whistles us seasoned bloggers have come to expect from a blogging platform.
Now, as i said in a previous email, i was in the process of simplifying my online presence by getting rid of a few places so i had less to keep updated and what have ya and i was going to get rid of my web site and just focus on blogging my photos here...all that was left to do was clear my account out and delete my site!
Until yesterday when i got an email from the ZF team where my site is hosted telling me the blog feature is now available and integrates into your site using what ever theme you use for your site!

Woohoo!...that was my first reaction!
Damn!...was my second reaction

Now what do i do?...i really want to keep everything in one place, flitting from this place to that to update different things takes up way too much time, and besides, folk don't know where to go for what when it's spread out all over the web.

No, all in one place is what i want...but do i...
1) keep the web site and blog from there now we have a built in blog feature and get rid of this blog here on Blogger.
2) Get rid of the web site as i had planned to do and just blog from here.
3) Keep both, do my photography blogging from the new blog on my web site and use this blog for everything else.

What to do?...What to do?

Option 1 requires money, have to pay for my hosting.
Option 2 is free and everything is together.
Option 3 means things are not all in one place as i would like and requires money for hosting my web site.

I am reluctant to get rid of either as i have put a lot of work into both places but i can't see the point in keeping both running for the same things.
Oh, hang on!...brain wave!
My hosting for my web site does not run out till May, i think maybe i should run the new blog over on my site and just leave this place sat here while i see how things go, if i leave this place in tact (as is) i can always come back to if, in May, i cannot afford the hosting fees or i just do not like the place for blogging.

Yep, i think that's what i'll do...so, if ya reading this and wondering where i am doing my blogging...you'll find me here till i've made my mind up.

Time to Simplify!

... Well, it's been a while since i did a personal post as there's been quite a bit going on with the old health and i didn't want to bog this place down in posts that were dreary and full of moans and groans so i've just stuck to posting the odd photo or a family tree update.

Any way, all my online stuff has suffered as i've had neither the time, energy or inclination to keep them updated...and i still don't!...so i've decided some things must go, my online life needs to be more manageable so i can continue doing what i enjoy with out getting bogged down in it all and so it will fit in with the health issues.

Ya see, i have ME/CFS and i've had it for about 7 years or so now but it's been a long hard 7 years battling with a GP that knows less than i do about it and finds it too much of an intrusion on his work load to help me deal with it...so i finally changed doctors!
With in 2 visits i got more help with the new GP than i've had the whole 7 years with the old GP!
Unfortunately the help, all though much needed, has come a little too late as the illness has progressed to the point where i can no longer do what i used to do...there's bad days, horrendous days and the occasional ok day...but all in all i've had to cut back on a hell of a lot.

And that brings me back to simplifying my online time...i've done away with the Amazon store, i've done away with my Cafe Press store, i've done away with both my FB pages, i've done away with Tumblr and the web site will be going soon too (just need time to clear things out then it's gone)...i now just have my blog (this place), my Flickr site (for photo storage and blogging), my personal FB profile page and my Twitter page...and that's more than enough for me to have to keep on top of believe me!
It does mean though i may have more time to post here and i may (now i'm starting to get to grips with this illness a little) start doing a few more day to day personal posts...i promise i will try not to go on about the health stuff too much...but then again...
It's my blog and if i want to moan about stuff i damn well will!

So there ya go, gonna dust down the old blog and get this show on the road again...well i'm gonna try!

Spring Cleaning!...

Time to clean up the old blog a bit, it's been a bit neglected since i did the layout change as i have had so much going on a lately i've just not had the time or energy for much online stuff.
Any way, there's a few things that need updating, some links and one or two other things and one or to two bits that need rearranging and/or removing so i apologise for owt that doesn't work, goes missing or gets moved...normal service will resume shortly!

And the 2000th ancestor is...

Drum roll please!...(opens envelope carefully, the crowd fall silent)...and the winner of the title Ancestor 2000 in Jan's Family Tree goes to...

James Aslin Ward the 3rd....(yeahhh!!!..the crowd go wild!)

And now ya all sat there wondering who the hell is James Aslin Ward!..well, i'll tell ya.
James was born 1866 in Queensland Australia along with his brother Henry, sister Hannah and sister Elizabeth. His father (also called James Aslin Ward) and his mother (Annie) shipped out to Australia sometime after 1861 and came back sometime before 1874...how do i know this?...well, in 1861 his father is still at home in Rotherham with his parents and by 1881 he is married with children back in Yorkshire, in fact they are back in Rotherham (bloody idiots!) and James now has a sister Agnes born 1874 in Rotherham, there's also a brother Arthur, a brother Alfred and a sister Annie, all born in Rotherham.

So you see, his mother and father married sometime after 1861, they emigrated to Australia and had their first 4 children in Australia but they were back in Rotherham by 1874 because the other 4 children were all born in Rotherham and the first of them was born 1874.

James Aslin Ward went on to marry Agnes Corbek in West Ham, Essex and they had 4 children...Agnes Eva, James Aslin (of course!), Gilbert Llewellyn and Mabel Agnes.

So how does this all connect to me and my family tree?...simple really, ya see James Aslin was not just named after his father, he was also named after his grandfather and he now had a son named after him!...oh eck!...now ya scratching ya head and going...huh!

Look, James Aslin Ward born 1809 gets married and has a son, James Aslin Ward born 1836, he then gets married and has a son, James Aslin Ward born 1866 (winner of the Anecestor 2000 Award), he then gets married and also has a son, James Aslin Ward born 1894...and yes, it's a bloody nightmare trying to find the right James Aslin Ward!

But, the one that connects this lot to me and my family tree is James Aslin Ward born 1809, ya see he married Elizabeth Aldred, she was born 1806, they were both born in Rotherham and they married 22nd Feb 1822 in Rotherham.

Ok, now ya can forget about all the James Aslin Ward's (was that another...huh!...i heard!), focus on Elizabeth Aldred now coz she is the key.

Elizabeth Aldred was the daughter of George Aldred and he was the brother of my great, great, great, great grandfather John Aldred.
Now John Aldred had a daughter called Mary, she married William Mellor and had a son called James, he married Hannah Housley and had a daughter called Doris Edna, she married William Heath and had a daughter called Margaret, she married Norman Redfearn and had a daughter called Jean and she married Derek Witton and had ME!!...there, see how simple that was !

Oh come on, you enjoyed trying to make sense of all that didn't ya!...hehehe!!!
Look, i just wanted to mark the 2000th ancestor in my family tree...so, getting back to what this post is really about...

Congratulation to James Aslin Ward the 3rd on becoming Ancestor 2000 in Jan's Family tree.

Not that he gives a damn, he's been dead since 1947!...and no mother, i still haven't found the money!...lol

Well, that's almost it for 2011 (1 hr 15 mins to go), so it's out with the old and in with the new!
Just another day in another year but another year of what i wonder!

The silly season

Yep, it's that time of year again!

Folk shopping like the stores will be closed for a month (usually just one day), naff christmas lights adorning every house and draped across every street in town and worst of all is the horrendous christmas music that's being played in every shop!...where do they get all this christmas crap from!

As you may have noticed i am not a fan of christmas, mainly due to the reasons above plus the cost of it all, the fact it disrupts all normal services for at least 2 weeks when only 3 days are holidays and it's just way to hectic everywhere you go.!
I'm not keen on spending the next 12 months paying of this christmas's debt so you can do it all over again next christmas either!...crazy!

However, none of the above is a problem to me any more...due to health i'm unable to work now so won't be dealing with all that mayhem any more, kids are all grown up and off doing there own thing so don't have to clutter the house up with the tree and trimmings, i shop online so do not stress myself out dealing with the supermarket madness and, as there's only me here now, i don't have to spend all day cooking either!

At last i can opt out of the festive madness! ...yeah!

Omg!...where's me sunglasses!

It's a bit bright in here!...lol

As you can see the old blog has undertaken a major colour change, it's been dark n' dismal in here for far too long but it's all white now!...lol

I'm not one for bright gaudy colours so i figured the only way to brighten the place up was to go white...or whitish with just a hint of blue...what d'ya think to it?

I basically got tired of trying to match colours to create a new colour scheme that would lighten the place up but not look like i'd gone gaga over night and they reckon a change is a good as a rest so, we'll see how i like it in a week or so!

Where'd my font go!

Hmm!...for some reason the font i chose for the blog title, post title and side bar titles is not showing up, instead i'm seeing some other default font and i don't like it!
I've been in to advanced editing section where you can chose the font and when i get there the right font appears, when i save and view my blog again the wrong font is back...not impressed and i'd like to know why or what is causing it.

I wouldn't mind but it was fine up until a couple of days ago!...it just went gaga all by it's self!

Edit!...been playing around in the editing section trying to figure this out but i have no idea what's going on, had to pick another font coz for some unknown reason the font i was using (calligraffitti) no longer seems to work...this is all highly strange!
