PPD or Pay Per Download is an online advertising model where you will get paid for every YOUR file downloaded by other persons.

The download is carried out by the everyday user who is viewing or has been sent to the file. Typically speaking the networks will only pay when the action of their choice has been fulfilled. The action itself can vastly vary, depending on what advertisers on specific networks are trying to gather. Email or zip submits are most common actions within the model but not the only ones. These advertisements or forms are better known as ?offers? within the industry. It is up to you to get traffic to the file.

When to use either

In all honesty there is no right or wrong its merely up to testing out both solution and seeing what fits your files and promotion method best. I would always advice to test with both direct linking and landing page. More often than not landing pages are increasing conversions.
Although adding a landing page can also mean just another unnecessary step a user has to take to get to the file.

HOW TO FIND NICHE

There are literally hundreds ways to find best niches for you and start earning, but we will cover only few good ones and not used a lot.
You will learn how to find niches using Search Suggestions and Google Trends. I won't discuss YouTube Keyword Tool and Google Ad Words Keyword Tool as everyone knows about them.

PPC Vs. Organic – This Is The Only Thing You Need To Know Noob

Go organic first both in social media and search. I’m sure you have seen dozens of Udemy courses showing you that for a couple of dollars you are on the way to great pay per click traffic that will turn the whole system into a money machine. Insert bills, and more come out.

That is so far from the truth it pains me…

I have a friend, a really good guy, we met on this forum and in person. He is a social media giant. This guy will not mess with you unless you have a $10,000 budget and he offers his expertise to some of the biggest names in Affiliate marketing.

We were friends before I knew what he really did…

Anyway, he helped me tie up some loose connections I had with social media PPC. Still, it took me $1,500 in testing ad copies and funnels before I really started making money. Now remember, I had this guy as my right hand. Imagine if you were doing it blindly?

Big affiliates have TEAMS and they spend tens of thousands testing offers before they ever really pour the cash into them. A lot of people starting out will blow through what little savings they have, learn nothing, make no money, and go back to the 9-5 with their tails tightly tucked.

Organic is slower but it gives you a chance to test test test without pouring cash into a black hole. It also creates a recurring foundation that stabilizes your business before you leap into a more volatile market like PPC funnels where products are hot or not.

Go with Organic until you have some money to test with. Tools to automate social organic reach are very cheap. Most of them you can subscribe to for under $30 a month. Don’t get me wrong I love both organic and PPC. I know people making $XXX,XXX a week with Affiliate marketing.

Start Building Your List Today Or You Will Regret It

Whatever business model or industry you choose online will ultimately come down to one sole factor before you make money. Can you effectively drive niche quality traffic? Once you can do that it’s a cake walk from there. At that point you play with offers and proposals.

I use GetResponse currently because I love their intuitive auto responders…

Whatever niche, build a list. See as an affiliate if you directly send a customer to the product owner or network that person becomes their customer and immediately ceases being yours. Always work on collectively building an email list.

That way you create a recurring traffic source that’s essentially free once you attain the data. You can also use the data to create custom audiences when you start implementing PPC into your online business model. It’s the bones of a successful operation.

Never Think Of Yourself As Average

Some people will go their whole lives looking at winners and separating themselves from that pack psychologically. They create a divide. “Well he is >Insert Expert< so of course he makes money online.” Or “ I don’t have the startup funds that guys had so of course I can’t….”.

People who think of themselves as average will always be just that, average.

Tips How To Make Money From Streaming Movie Website

Things that you don't need:
1. Money

Things that you'll need:
1. Time - First for the initial setup, then just to add movies that you please.

Setting up website: Since we don't wanna spend on hosting, we'll set up our
website using wordpress, blogspot, weebly, wix.
Don't use tumblr as it recently started banning blogs as soons as they see movie streaming embed link on their page.
1. I used blogspot because I was familier with it. But go with wordpress. It's much better.
2. Go to wordpress (com) and sign up there. Use a simple dark theme. Fill in the blanks like site name,url and everything. I won't go into detail about this since there's already so many articles out
there.

How that we have a basic blank wordpress website set up, now we will add movies one by one.
Keep in mind we are only going to add top 50 movies of each year from 2012-16. There's no point going for old movies since it won't get you much traffic.

3. Now add a new post on wordpress. Google <movie name> imdb, ex: batman v superman imdb Go to the first result of google and copy the entire data as shown in the picture above and try to achieve something like this:

To get the image url from imdb just right click on the movie poster on imdb and click "Copy Image address" on the pop up menu. (For chrome)

Now, under Categories & Tags, Add genre names one by one, and also the year for example, add these for tags: Action, Adventure, 2016

Go to youtube search <movie name> trailer, embed that link on your page.

4. Changing the description of the movie: Since the imdb description is widely scraped and used, it'd be better for you to not use that for SEO reasons, just google <movie name> review and skip a few pages of google results to find a less used review and copy it and paste it under on your blog post.

5. Adding stream links:
Google Vidsource API, go to the first result, sign up. On the top menu click documentation, and it'll give you all the details you need to use it.

Example: if you want to add deadpool on your website go to that movies imdb page and check out the url which will have tt1431045 at the end of it.
take a note of the numbers after title/tt in the url, here which is 1431045.

Now as it says in the vidsource api documentation add an iframe
which the url being like at the end

apikey={your api key}&imdbid={movie imdb id}&redirecton=true

and just replace the api key with your key and movie imdb id, which the imdb id that we got before hand. For example to stream deadpool on your page the iframe url would be at the end

apikey=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX&imdbid=1431045&redirecton=true

6. A little bit of SEO: I've came a long way from basic on page SEO to 3 Tier backlinking but to keep it simple, you should be doing a decent on page SEO. Otherwise it'll be hard to get any traffic from google. Already a lot of guides on this. But here's some essentials -

a. Go to keywordtool (dot ) io and enter free <movie name> ex: free batman v superman. It'll give you a bunch of keywords. Copy them one by one and use them for the following elements.

i) Post title
ii) Post Url
iii)3 on tags
iv) Anywhere else you can think of. But don't over do it.

7. Monetizing
For this you will need a ad center account. Google it get an account.
Talk to your account manager for this, he'll help you out through out. But to start with this is what you wanna do under the trailer and the actual stream player

To do this google "button png" click on images tab, save the button images you like. Add those on your post. Add links to them (your account manager on ad center will give you these links).

8. Repeat and add movies
Repeat this process and add at least 100 movies within 10 days. If possible more.

9. Getting Traffic
This is the most important and challenging part, but as long as you have patience and will to work, you'll be fine. Here's what you can do -

0. Google "Submit Url" and click on the first result, and submit your url to google (need a google account).
1. Add your links on BestOfStreamingVideo and MovieStreamsites sub reddits on reddit.
2. Make a pinterest, twitter, facebook, google plus (get creative with this list of social networks) page and put your link there. The more pages you have the better.
3. Interlink these social pages. For example, share your facebook fan page over google plus page and so on. Also go to other facebook, google plus fan pages and comment your website links.
4. Google "where to watch free movies" or "sites to watch free movies" (get creative with this keyword) and go on the article pages and ask if they can add your website on their article. Most of the pages will show you that your comment is stuck at moderation, some of them will allow it and some of them will not. Comment on at least 30 pages every day when you wake up (or any other time, just don't skip it)
5. Go on various movie discussion forums (or other forums, get creative) and put a thoughtful comment or post like 'if you liked dead pool you are gonna love the new captain america civil war movie <your link>".

With all this google should index your website (you can check by googling "site:mywebsitedomain.com"). There are a ton of ways to create bank links. Google it, keep doing it. It'll take AT LEAST 2 WEEKS before you get one single visitor from google. Also google "how to get indexed by google" if you find out it's not indexed within the first 4 days of doing this.

Eventually you will get visitors and you will make sales. If you make 4 days a month, that's $2/day which is great for a n00b, at least that's what i earned on my first months.

8 Steps How to Set Up Free Cloudflare Flexibel SSL on Wordpress

Since Google announced that websites using HTTPS will increase your chances of having a good ranking in search results, here's a setup to have a free SSL on your wordpress site using Cloudflare's Free Flexible SSL...

IMPORTANT: ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR SITE FIRST IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG!!!

1. Create an account at Cloudflare. Or just sign in if you already have one.

2. Add your site and select the free plan. Follow the steps on setting up your domain.

3. Once domain was successfully setup, look and click for CRYPTO at the top row.

4. On the CRYPTO page, look for SSL and select FLEXIBLE.

5. Check your website by typing https://www.yoursite.com if the ssl is working... If your site loads but the content is all messed up, dont worry about it...

6. Now go to your Wordpress admin page and install and activate the plugin CLOUDFLARE FLEXIBLE SSL to prevent the redirecting loop error.

7. Next is install and activate the SSL INSECURE CONTENT FIXER to fix the mixed contents that make your site undesirably out of order...

a. Once activated, click SSL Insecure Content Fixer's SETTINGS and on FIX INSECURE CONTENT, choose CAPTURE. ( you can try the other options later after finishing the setup if its working properly on your site)

b. For FIXES FOR SPECIFIC PLUGINS AND THEMES, just choose the one that suits your site.... If you have woocommerce, then choose woocommerce....

c. For HTTPS DETECTION, choose HTTP_CF_VISITOR (Cloudflare Flexible SSL) then SAVE the settings.

8. Now go back to your Cloudflare account and go to PAGE RULES.

Click CREATE Page Rule and add your site as http://*yoursite.com/*
Then select ALWAYS USE HTTPS then SAVE AND DEPLOY.

Best Method Make 150$+/day Using Funnel With Instagram and FB Ads

So I have been lurking this forum for a couple years now. Recently I have become pretty successful in making money thanks to TAKING ACTION and thanks to some of the insanely valuable content on this forum.

I have been making money with CPA (ranking #1 on Google), paid FB ads, affiliate marketing dropshipping etc. for 4 years now, and I've had some success in all of these things but I was never really able to hit real solid success with RESIDUAL income, due to information overload and just trying too many different things instead of focusing on just one main thing. Recently I flew out to the USA for the first time in my life (I'm from The Netherlands), where I had the honor to meet some great people like Grant Cardone, Tai Lopez, Com Mirza etc., and I since then it has opened my eyes to what is possible if I was willing to fix my mindset and start reading books about selling etc.

Anyway... for me it is now time to give back to the community by completely laying out there what my current blueprint is and what's working well for me. I also went ahead and made a donation to the forum. Usually I don't really reveal this sort of stuff in such detail but I'm in a good mood… so let’s do this! :D I'm excited to share this with you and I will do my best to explain it the best way I can so it is EASY for you to understand.

NOW before you go kick your dog or light your cat on fire let me just clarify to you that I used to avoid these type of companies like the plague because most of them just seemed like bullshit, because I did not fully understand how to leverage them like this. Also I have not seen anything like this before as it converts like crazy and the product itself is genuinely valuable in my opinion. People need this in their life so I can actually feel good about selling it. It's like a training for people on how to successfully start making money as an entrepreneur with an online business, for a $1 trial. After the trial finishes it has upsells which converts like CRAZY (because people love it and it works) and brings you residual income. Not too bad for 90 days:

Not showing any of this to brag at all (there's obviously a ton of people making a lot more than me in the internet world), I just want to show you what's possible. Hopefully I can motivate or inspire at least a couple of you with this. I know most people will just read this thread and not take action, but making money is actually pretty easy and a lot of fun if you know what to do and if you are willing to just take ACTION and put in the work, instead of just procrastinating, making excuses, and playing video games or browsing Pornhub whenever you get the chance :) So take that thumb out of your anus and prepare yourself because we are going in on hot:

Some small investments that will make everything work smoothly:
Sales funnel - I invested $100 in a proven VSL funnel with a custom design + a lot of traffic A/B testing and hard work. Now I decided to model after the most successful ones. I will share my custom personal CF funnel which I use every day with you for free. Preview and download the funnel into your CF account for free by clicking here.
Email software (optional) - I use and recommend Actionetics inside of CF. I'm just going to assume you have an account there. You can also use Active Campaign. Also old school Aweber could work.
A solid product that you want to promote. This should be a proven product within the niche that converts well and brings good results to the customer. I believe in karma and the law of attraction (GIVE value = RECEIVE value. If you GIVE stinky bullshit you will RECEIVE stinky bullshit as well), so I do not want to promote bullshit to my customers. My niche is the 'make money online'/business/entrepreneurial niche, and I am promoting the DA system which I will show in this method.. I highly recommend this product because it converts well and gives real results if you are not lazy (I use it myself too). This is what I have been making most of my money for the past months, and this was my winner with many different split tests, but again the product is up to you. You can ultimately use this method to sell any affiliate product to any target niche you like.
An Instagram account or two - You can also use ANY other traffic source for this method (like YouTube, Facebook, or Forums etc.), but today I will show you how to do this with Insta because it's fun and easy, and it converts well for me. If you are good with paid traffic like Facebook ads that would be a story for another day but that works very nicely for me as well. I actually get about 80% of my traffic from Facebook, so I will show how to do that as a bonus as well.
An Instagram bot - I have a $400 full Followliker license but you can also use something like Instagress which is FREE (and good). Alternatively you can use something else like paid FB ads to get traffic, but for this tutorial I will show how I am using Instagram because it's easy and profitable.
A domain name (optional) - something related to making money online, getting sales, or whatever you want in the online marketing or self development space. You can choose a domain like 'nomore9to5.com', 'passiveonlineincome.com', 'startabusiness.com', 'howto__.com'.. you get the idea.

Alright so what we are going to do is add an 'automated profit funnel' (or Money Magnet as I like to call it ^-^) to our Instagram bio. We simply do this by adding in an attractive bio. This is going to turn our Instagram profile into a goldmine :p
Here's a preview of what it will look like:

You can see the bio is attractive to the eye and compels people to click that link.

Alright so first of all we are going to create the sales funnel for whatever it is we want to promote. This sales funnel will be fully optimized for both mobile and desktop traffic, but Instagram is 99.99% mobile traffic so mobile will be most important. Our funnel will work with both.

If you are a complete newbie and you don't know what a sales funnel is:

A funnel is vital for any type of online business, and here's why: sales funnels are marketing paths where cold traffic goes through to become repeat customers. Just like a normal real life funnel, where for example you are putting oil in an oil tank, these online funnels work the same way. You are guiding prospects to become regular customers. We are bascially turning cold traffic into sales.

So again: the red area in this picture will be on Instagram which is where we grab our users attention... a part of the traffic will then flow through our sales funnel and hopefully convert into the green area, a sale. For demo purposes here is a yellow area example (regular Opt-In). However, we are going to add our own spin to it to milk out some easy cash. Our traffic is actually going to buy a great product instead of doing a fake survey to get screwed (I am not judging, I have made a lot of money with that as well).

Alright cool.. So now that we understand the basics let's make your sales funnel and set everything up so we can start making some money:

These instructions are for those who want it set up exactly the way I have it set up:

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1.1) Click here to Download the custom designed sales funnel which makes me roughly $20k/month in affiliate commissions (for free). This share link will automatically give you my funnel for free and you can edit it as you like. You can also just funnel hack it yourself if you want. Just make it look like this (OSP also has a similar one which I modeled it after), because for whatever reasons this exact color scheme / design. etc just converts best for me.

Step 1.2 (if you don't have a Clickfunnels account) If you're not signed up yet with CF you can do that here. This is a special affiliate link which will allow me to help you better, if you want any help with this method. If you want a non-affiliate link for whatever reason, that's cool too. Just use this link instead.

To make your funnel you need to have a ClickFunnels account - I'm going to assume you already have one. If you are selling anything what so ever online and you don't have a CF account you are insane, lol. But I know there are a lot of newbies here so that's cool, just go to CF and create an account (there's a 14 day free trial, and it's the best tool you will buy for a long time. Everyone selling anything in any niche needs this software, and yes I am that serious about that.). If you want to learn more about marketing and psychology hacks google the 'DotComSecrets Book' and order it for free.. I've made a ton of money from reading that book alone. Anyway I have used LeadPages as well but it is mostly for landing pages, not funnels, and it will not work for the email campaign most likely (don't worry, I will provide you with ALL the emails for you to send :p). Another alternative is OptimizePress but it's absolutely shit in my opinion, and it requires Wordpress.

Anyway let's move on... once you have the sales funnel into your account move on to step 2.

Step 2) Get your Instagram account. You can simply use a personal one to start out (which I do as well), or just make a new one. If you want to run a lot of different accounts you can start buying Aged NON-PVA accounts from thetraveller on BHW (his Skype is psihomag).

If you don't have funds to purchase Instagram accounts, Cryogenesis has written a great guide on how to make your own Insta accounts safely which you can check out here.

For now you just need 1 account though.

Step 3) Get a free Instagress.com account if you don't have an Instagram bot yet. Alternatives are Followliker (I have a full $400 license for that too, it's kind of expensive. But for Insta alone you will pay $97/month), and Massplanner which is $17/month.

Step 4 (optional)

This is for a bit of customization, but for beginners who want to get started quickly I would suggest to skip this step. Just go to step 5.

We are also going to be making a free PDF eBook for our opt-in bait (this will all be explained later), but it is your choice if you want to make a custom one with your name etc. or if you just want to take mine. If you want to make your own you can google 'ebook mockup psd free download', or go here, and you'll get a PDF file which you can simply edit with your own text and picture. Example:

Step 5) Go into your funnel dashboard: https://app.clickfunnels.com/funnels, find your sexy funnel and click edit.

Now go to the third step of the funnel and delete that bitch. We are are going to do something much much better for that step. We will plug in the landing page from our automated lead system which will allow us to receive CHA-CHING notifications on our phone (optional, pretty fun), but more importantly it will do all the complicated selling and tracking for us automatically, giving us extra commissions. After you have deleted that just move on to step 6.

Step 6) Sign up for the OSP system here (it's a 7 day trial, and after that it's like $30 a month - VERY worth it). This system has the original landing page for the last step and will allow you to enter your tracking code where you can save leads etc, and it will also give you a lot more earnings because their email campaigns will start firing and each sale will be credited with extra commission to you. Very nice.

Step 7) Now we are going to grab your best unique affiliate link to plug into your funnel. To do this: go into the editor and select DA funnel -> then click one of the links at the bottom as shown in the screenshot -> this should give you a page like xxx.xx sales pro .com/da-optin.

Click on of those 2 links. On that page enter a fake email address so you get redirected to the next page, which looks very similar to our old step 3 (but better). The end of the link you get now should look like this: da-sales/?ref=xxxxx.

Great. So now we are going to put that link into our funnel.

Step 8) Go back into Clickfunnels, edit the second step, and change the url of the red button to your affiliate link. (ending in da-sales/?ref=xxxxx, where xxxx is obviously your ID)

If you have done this and you are still with me so far: nice job, we're almost there.

Step 9) Now grab your affiliate link page inside your DA/Aspire dashboard. If you don't have an account there yet sign up here first so you can get the $1 trial, and then speak to your coach so he can unlock your affiliate link. This is actually the only step that will take some time, but you'll learn some stuff along the way. Simply go through the process (they'll make you go through some training videos, but it's worth it in the end), and once you have done those steps you're ready to get your link :D Grab the 'Order Page' affiliate link and throw that into OSP like so.

BOOM!! Done!

So you funnel should now have 2 steps in Clickfunnels, and one in OSP. If you want you can connect your email software, so it actually sends the free ebook to the person who opts in on the page. You can also change this gift to whatever you want, but I like to do the eBook.

Now we are ready for the fun part: pumping traffic.

Step 10) Add it to your Instagram bio as shown here: https://i.imgsafe.org/aee2b09278.png (optional: add a custom domain to your funnel so you can use that for your bio)

Step 11) Use you Instagram bot to follow a ton of people who follow business, how to make money, entrepreneurial accounts, millionaire inspiration accounts etc. Try to think of who your target customer is for your affiliate product, and what kind of accounts they would follow. You can also follow people by hashtags and stuff. Example: follow the people who are following https://www.instagram.com/garyvee/.

This is going to allow you to get a MASSIVE amount of leads from Insta :D This is Instagress:

Step 12) If you don't have a lot of inspirational content on your Insta you can set your account to private so the visitors are forced to read only your Bio + click your link.

Now run the traffic and see the $$$ rolling in :cool:

So there you have it. You can add your own twists to get your funnel in front of the right people. Just thought of buying shoutouts from accounts with millions of followers from shoutcart.com... If you can get paid traffic to convert you will have an excellent opportunity to scale this to the moon. So I'll show you how to use paid FB traffic with this as well....

BONUS TRAFFIC SOURCE - Facebook Ads

Pro Bonus Tip #2:

So this entire method was about promoting the DA system right? But catch this:

This is a bonus way of making money that you can start doing after you have done all of the steps in this thread.

These affiliate products have Facebook communities which you can join, which contain other affiliates motivating each other and sharing their success with the whole group. All of these people are eager to get more leads for their business. How To Post Link on Instagram Without Getting Flagged

a ton of people have this issue and I know a lot of people that are extremely discouraged because of this. I will keep it as short as possible. If you're trying to make money on IG with spam accounts and you're getting huge ban waves, your URLs could be the problem. Instagram has spiders that follow links and if you were to put the same link on many accounts, they will all get banned instantly.

What's written in this thread is to help you stay as safe as possible.

First thing: 301 redirects do not work to cloak a URL. (This means using bitly, etc). Instagram will detect what is on the other end of a 301 redirect so you are not fooling anyone by using a bitly to mask a URL.

Also, never put a URL in your bio that other people are using. This means landing pages that other people could be using (such as premade OGAds landing pages, or landing pages of any CPA network).

You have a few simple methods to get around this. (There are other advanced methods that seem like redirects to anyone clicking on the link, but I'm keeping it simple in this post to appeal to everyone)

1) If you have some $$$ to spend:
You can buy some cheap domains from somewhere like namecheap, godaddy, etc. Scrape the landing page you want to use by using a tool like HTTrack or Darcy Ripper or Google a different one yourself. Upload this site to your domains. Then, get creative with linking it back with your CPI or CPA offer (For example, if you're using OGAds like most people doing CPI on IG, make your own custom content locker and use it on your websites). Then, advertise your domains in your IG bios.

2) If you don't have any $$$:
Simply make a website on a free website builder. You can use weebly or wix or any other free website builder that comes with free hosting. Make a simple page that has a button that says something like "Click here to continue" and make the button redirect to a premade CPI or CPA landing page. These website builders will usually give you a domain like username.weebly.com which is ugly, so you can go make a custom bitly link and redirect the bitly link to your username.weebly.com. Then, put your bitly link in your IG bio.

For 1) or 2), use the same domain on a maximum of 5 accounts. If you really want to be safe, use 1 domain per 1 account.

Guide Build Site Architecture & Siloing

When to Silo and When NOT to Silo

Siloing has become a bit of a buzz word, and people think they need to silo their 10 page micro niche sites. :) You don't. Not even close. You rarely need to even silo a site with 50-75 pages.

In the shaving niche for example, you could silo braun, panasonic and philips shavers, then you could further silo down into braun series 3000, series 5000, series 7000 and series 9000. I don't believe this gives you an advantage. In fact, I think it limits you. Since the Hummingbird update Google has been very good at determining relations between topics. They know that 'best electric shaver' is the same thing as 'top electric shaver' and very similar to 'electric shaver reviews'.

You want internal links between pages that are only slightly similar. You want links between your beard trimmer page and your braun reviews page. It helps to build a big picture about your site through the internal anchors and content. You don't want to limit yourself to only linking between braun shavers, and philips shavers.

Now, things change when you have very different niches on your site. If you expand your shaving site to include all mens products and have a new section about anti aging cream for men, then you don't really want to be interlinking between shavers and creams.

There is SOME topical relevance between them though, and with siloing you do link from 1 category page to another.

Let me draw you a couple of site architecture plans to elucidate my thoughts on siloing.

Mens Shaving Site - NO siloing

I have not shown any interlinking here, because you want to be linking off anywhere from anywhere. We're only concerned with site structure, not siloing. So link from your shaving oil vs creams article to a philips at941 review, or to a panasonic shavers page, or to a how to trim your beard. Use varying anchor text like "Speaking of oils, if you have a beard then find out <a href="blah"> why beard oil is amazing</a>.

What's important here is just the logical structure of the site.

I would have the best electric shavers, beard beard trimmers etc as links in my main bar with dropdowns for the others. If I had 3 levels, I would only use a dropdown menu for 2 levels btw.

On my Best Electric Shavers page, I would have a custom wordpress menu over to the right with a heading like "Shaving Articles"

Then in my Best Beard Trimmer page I would have the same but title the menu "Beard Maintenance Tips", or something like that.

For the brand ones, it would be "Braun Reviews"

What if we wanted to actually silo this example?

Now, if this were actual siloing, I would only link blue to blue, or blue to purple, or blue to homepage, green to green, green to purple, green to homepage and so on.

In strict siloing, children can only link to parents, grandparents, uncles, great uncles, and of course brothers. Never to cousins.

Ie, if we "shaving oils vs creams" was a category page, with another 5 sub-topic articles under it, those articles could link to each other, to the parent "shaving oils", to the grandparent "best electric shavers", and to the great grandparent "mens shaving site", and to uncles "choosing shaving cream", great uncles, "best beard trimmers", but "how to trim your beard" would be a cousin once removed :)

Look at this

You are "self". So self can link to ANY parent, ie, grand parent, great grandparent and it can link to ANY uncle, great uncle and so on. It can't link to a cousin.

So let's say the self on that links to "great great grand parent". They are a DIRECT descendent, ie, strongly related. The great great uncle, is the brother of the great great grandparent, so they're also very related to them, thus are ok for you to link to, BUT, their child isn't close enough in the "bloodline" for you to link too. Ie, not relevant enough.

But, we don't!

We don't want to silo here, instead we do want to go link crazy. Link everywhere and anywhere wherever it naturally works in the article. Internal linking is POWERFUL. It moves juice about your site, and it builds relevance.

Mens Luxury Products Site - We silo here

Here's an example of the type of site where you would want to silo.

The way I would structure this is on the main menu of the homepage we have "Shaving", "Anti-Aging" and "Dental" with dropdowns 1 level below, ie, to best beard trimmers, braun shavers and so on.

If you click on 'shaving' you'll have the same menu you would have had on the shaving only site. Same idea. Drop down to 1 level.

If you click on Anti-aging, you'll get a menu with 'best anti aging creams', 'anti aging foods' etc.

Now, inside each dark orange section, I don't recommend following siloing rules. Structure the site the way I discussed above, BUT, link around everywhere inside the dark orange. So any anti-aging page, links to any other anti-aging page, BUT, "best anti aging creams" only links to "Shaving" or "Dental", it doesn't link to "best beard trimmers", and definitely not to "how to trim your beard".

By doing this you build up tight, focused topical relevance for "shaving", "anti-aging" and "dental". You do not need to build up tight relevance for "beard trimmers", separately from "electric shavers" though. That's just too extreme and I think actually harmful.

Also, if a case arises inside your braun review, where you feel it's natural to link to an anti aging product. Just do it. Don't stress over siloing. You don't want all your anti aging articles linking off all over the shop to dental and shaving, but the occasional article linking to a dental or shaving article, where it's appropriate, is natural and fine.

Tips Content Plan & Keyword Groups

The Theory

Originally in SEO, before hummingbird, back when Google didn't know the difference between "Top 10 Shavers", "Electric Shaver Reviews", "Best Electric Shavers", and heck, even "Electric Shaving Reviews"..

The way to turn your keyword list into a content plan was simple. You would just write 1 article per keyword. There was no panda or thin content penalties. If you wanted to rank for "Top 10 Shavers", you sure as shit weren't going to do it with a page called "Best Electric Shavers".

Thank god those days are behind us.

Now, you can write a big article like "The Amazing Guide to Shavers" and rank for every keyword under the sun..

Or so Google wants you to think.

If you go ahead and just write the damn shaving guide in the whole world, you won't rank for that much. You'll still get some decent rankings, and plenty of longtails, but you won't be ranking for "best electric shavers" etc.

So what do you need to do?

You need to create keyword groups. You group related keywords together and make use of sub-headings and sub-sections.

You might have a title like "Best Electric Shaver Reviews", then a sub-section called "Top 5 Shaver List", then in your review you make sure to use plenty of related words like "top picks", "great shavers", "good shavers", "hot picks". Basically you're using words you know as a human signify reviews/best/top. Don't go overboard. You only need to mention everything ONCE. "shaver reviews", ONCE, "best shaver", ONCE, "top shavers", ONCE, "top shaver", ONCE and so on.

Your title should be different to your H1, which should be different to your H2's.

So your title might be

"Electric Razor Reviews - Top 10 Picks"

Then your H1

"Best Electric Shavers: Your Guide to Buying a Razor"

or

"Best Electric Shavers: The Ultimate Guide"

or

"Best Electric Shavers: Shopping Guide"

or

"Best Electric Shavers: A Buyers List"

I like the 2nd part of my H1 to be a non-targeted phrase that makes it look less spammy.

You'll then have a few H2's like this

"Top 10 Razors" -- If you used shavers in h1, use razors here and vice versa.

Maybe "Top 3 Razors" -- Depends how many you want to review

Another H2

"Top Electric Shaver Pick for 2016"

Now, you'll have other keywords like "Best Cheap Shavers", "Best Shaver for Thick Beards".

It's entirely up to you whether you group these into your big shaver guide, or make separate pages.

I personally feel it's better to group those sort of keywords together into the main article. I would rather have a 5000 word article that's all original content than 5 1000 word articles with overlapping content.

So you'd have some H2's like

"Best Shaver Under $100"

or

"Top Razor Under $100" <-- Mix it up, don't keep saying shaver, don't keep saying razor, vary it as much as possible.

"Top Shaver for Thick Beards"

"Best Razor for Medium Beards"

"Great Shavers for Light Beards"

Now what you do at this point is open up

Then create a new spreadsheet. In this spreadsheet each column will be 1 article. 1 keyword group.

Go through all your keywords, starting with the highest volume and copy and paste into columns, keeping related keywords together.

For shaving I opt to go with a "Best Electric Shaver" guide, which will have a section "Top 5 Ultimate Best Shavers of 2016", "Best Electric Razor Under $100", under which it'll talk about "cheap shavers". There's not many searches for "shavers for light beards" etc, so I'm not going to bother with those. They were just an example to highlight the kind of things you can group together.

I'm going to create a mindmap of the site architecture I'd do now. I've not done a spreadsheet with the keyword groupings. I've done this before for this site and I'm putting together the site architecture from memory.

It's very time consuming doing your keyword groups, but it pays off if you spend the 5 to 8 hours on it.

Once you've done those groupings, you then look at them, and decide on an article title and H1 for each group, then you decide on a bunch of H2's, and then when you write the articles or have you writer do it, you make sure to use as many of the keywords in the content as possible, JUST ONCE.

Now, there's no siloing here. Anything can link to anything, because they're all related enough. I'm just using internal linking and menus to structure the site.

On the main site, you'll have a main menu with 4 options. They'll be "Electric Shavers", "Beard Trimmers", "Nose Hair Trimmers" and "Head Shavers".

The homepage will contain about 1500 words and the content will talk about everything, electric shavers, beard trimmers, nose hair trimmers and head shavers. It'll link off contextually on the main page to different things.

For example

"If you've got a thick beard, be sure to check out <a href>the philips 9700 review</a>"

Blah blah, <a href>philips vs braun</a> which will link off to either the braun or philips page.

It's basically just a summary of the site, with generic information so the visitor gets a feel for what's on the site and you can have plenty of contextual links so link juice flows out into the inner pages from backlinks to the homepage. I always like to have this big generic content page for all my sites.

You can also just make the homepage your "best electric shaver reviews" page, but inner pages rank just the same as home pages, so there's no need. You'll be backlinking the homepage and "Hub pages" equally anyway. The lower down on the sitemap you go, the less you backlink. A few backlinks to the brand pages, and almost none to the articles and individual reviews.

On the "Best Electric Shaver Reviews" page I'll have 2 custom menus to the right.

One will be "Shaver Brands", with the Braun, Panasonic and Philips brand page links under it, and the second will be "Shaving Tips", with all the articles I do listed under that.

This is actually siloing, but it's "light" siloing. These menus only apear on the best electric shaving page or under, but unlike strict siloing, I advocate that you contextually link off to your beard/nose/head category AND inner pages.

Now, let's move to the Braun brand page.

We'll have a third menu added to the right with "Braun Shaver Reviews", and each individual shaver review will be listed.

The type of content I'll do on a brand page is general discussion of the shaver range.

I'll have sub-titles like "Braun vs Panasonic"

"Braun vs Philips"

"Braun Advantages"

"Braun Disadvantages"

"Top Braun Shaver"

"Braun Shavers to Avoid"

Beef it up. 3000+ words is good. You'll really build some strong topical relevance with these pages.

Same deal for Panasonic and Philips.

Your individual reviews will be between 200 and 800 words. If 2 shavers are similar, then just write 50-75 words saying that it's almost the same as X except for Y, and link to the X review.

Onto the other 3 hub pages, the beard, nose and head shaver pages.

Same idea. Big 3000+ word pages with a little menu to the right saying "Beard Tips", "Nose Hair Trimmer Help" and "Head Shaving", respectively. (Or similar titles.)

Then under your menus just general beard/nose/head content, linking most of all to each other, back to their hub page, and where appropriate elsewhere within the site.

How To Analysis Keyword Competition

The Missing Link - Site Relevancy

I talk about strength and relevancy in the original chapter. The relevancy I'm talking about there is how relevant the page is to the exact keyword.

However, there's a 3rd factor to take into account. One that's less important for lower competition 1-4 keywords, but becomes crucial to understand when looking at 5+'s

Site relevancy is important, and is factored into the overall "score" Google gives a page when deciding where to position it for a keyword.

An mini-authority site about toasters.. (I define mini authority sites as 50-150 pages. We're pushing it with toasters here, but I'm sure it's possible to write 50 articles on toasters! ;-) )

Or a larger authority site about kitchen goods with an entire section on toasters..

These are going to be more powerful than a mammoth domain like walmart.com for most toaster keywords, despite the fact walmart is a solid 1 in strength, and the authority sites are perhaps a 3 in strength.

The reason you can outrank those Ebay and Amazon pages with your mini authority site, is in my opinion less to do with the fact they potentially have very few backlinks to the page, and more to do with the fact your site has much more topical relevance. When you combine topical site relevance with page relevance, you get a powerhouse of ranking potential in your niche.

A Small Note on Siloing

This is one of the primary functions of siloing. To build topical relevance on bigger sites. If your site is ONLY about toasters, you do not need to silo, but if it's about kitchen goods and you just have a big mish mash of kitchen content, you won't have strong topical relevance for toasters.

What Does This Mean For Competition Analysis

Since competition analysis is very much an art rather than a science, it's hard to give you an exact blueprint. You have to just look at a site and try to determine yourself how topically relevant the site is to the keyword.

If you're looking at a keyword that has all strength 1 domains and relevance 2, then it doesn't automatically mean it's an 8+. If you're looking at a page 1 full of authority sites with high topical relevance to the niche the keyword is in, then it's an 8+, but if they're all ecommerce sites or broad sites with a single page in the niche then you're dealing with a 4 to 7 depending on how closely related that page is to the keyword. If it's more of a category page with some content, then it's a bit closer to "best toasters", than say a single page reviewing a brand of toaster. You have to just use your discretion to work out how closely related the page is to the keyword, and additionally how much topical relevance the site will have. Ie, is the whole site dedicated to the niche, or does it have a whole section devoted to the niche.

Guide How To Selection a Niche

Today, I am sharing 3 methods I frequently use to find niches and in my next guide I will show you how I do keyword research. Anyhow... Let's just skip all the rambling and get right into it!

Niche selection is not that big of a deal to me. I usually stumble upon my competitors PBNs and see what other sites they are making. Usually, their sites suck and I can find a handful of niches to put in my interesting niche-list. I write it down on paper, like actual paper, and store it under my mattress every night so that no one can steal it from me... My precious...

Jokes aside, I do have some special methods for finding niches that I have not seen shared around that much - some might find these to be common sense, while others might get a new perspective on niche selection. One of the methods will be for those that can actually be bothered to get up from their chair and take a nice walk, and two for those who cannot be bothered to get up.

Method 1: Walk in the Park

This is the most unique method. This method requires a sharp eye and you must be mentally focused on your goal (Psst, this method can actually be done in your home as well, always be observant!). So what exactly is this method all about?

Let's be honest, niches are all around us. I am currently sitting in a bunk bed while writing this sentence. I have a princess playhouse right by my bed that my sister left there while playing today. There we have 2 niches: bunk beds and a princess playhouse.

"Best Bunk Beds": 1,300 searches in December

Now let's take it outside. I went outside myself in -14 celsius (6.8 fahrenheit) just to take the photos I will post below, so appreciate the effort I put into this guide!

What do we see in this picture? We see a closed shop of some sort with graffiti sprayed all over it (really ugly, let's be honest). Sure, there might not be that many individuals that get their house, car or other personal belongings spray-painted by kids, but there should be a few searches for that, right? Let's check!

This looks to me as a medium competition keyword. The sites on the first page are optimized properly, are at least 5 years old and a good amount of solid links. This would be pretty tough to beat and probably cost a good amount to be able to rank, which we want to avoid. But we won't completely drop this niche just yet, we will dig deeper into it in the keyword research guide!

Let's take a look at another picture I took while outside. (Which I unfortunately had to crop to fit into the uploading limit of Wordpress :()

What do we see in this photo besides a beautiful view? Well, I can spot some flagpoles on the right of the picture, let's see if they get any searches. I put in the keyword "best flagpoles" in Google Keyword Planner.

"Best flagpoles": 10 searches in December

What a bummer, barely any searches at all. But don't worry! Maybe there are some related keywords to flagpoles? We will dig deeper in the keyword research for all the mentioned keywords in the keyword research section of this guide.

Summary of this method

This method is all about being observant. This method can be applied everywhere! In your classroom, in your office or at the local bar, EVERYWHERE. What things do people use? Maybe you will see some constructions workers using a interesting machine, walk up to them and ask them what the machine is called. I found a solid niche that way once! :)

Be creative, think outside the box. There are a lot of searches for products that most people wouldn't even know existed. So be curious about products that you don't find familiar, most of the time, the majority of the people don't know what they are either, thus making the chance there is a lot of competition for it low.

Method 2: The Basic Tip with a Twist

For this method, we are going to go onto different e-commerce sites to find niches. This might the first tip everyone give someone looking to learn how to select a niche. Personally, I found it really hard in the beginning when I was directed to an index of all the best sellers on Amazon. All of the niches listed there were all being targeted by these massive authority sites and I thought I wouldn't stand a chance against them (I was probably right).

I have however used this technique a bit recently. But this time, instead of going to Amazon I go to Alibaba.com. I click on "For Buyers" and pick "By Category". This will give you a page full of different products. Perfect. I scroll down to a random category, in this example it was "Machinery, Industrial Parts & Tools".

I read through the different products. I usually stop at the products I never seen or heard of before. This time it was "Packaging Machine" and I thought "what is that?". It turned out to be this huge machine that costs several thousands that helps people pack boxes (pretty obvious by its name, right?). This is a great sign as the price is high, which means we would get a high commission for every product we sell. I went on Keyword Planner to see the amount of searches for it.

Ok, this keyword only got 10 searches per month. That's way too low to make a site around. But as with any niche, I am not done with it just yet. I will dig deeper down into the niche in the keyword research guide. There should be some easy keywords in that niche somewhere!

Method 3: PBN Gold Digger

Private Blog Networks also known as PBNs are used frequently when it comes to ranking. They are basically blogs that you build in order to give yourself a backlink, and they work really well for helping you rank. But, a lot of people are doing it wrong. They are not hiding their PBNs properly from Google nor their competitors. It sucks for them, but we can take advantage of this!

This method is highly rewarding, but can take you awhile to figure out. First off, you will need to find a crappy site ranking high for a search term. It can be a competitor in your current niche that you've started a site in or it can be a niche you've found using the other methods from this guide.

Once you've found a good site, which is usually a site with poor on-page optimization, low amount of backlinks and low amount of content, you can continue. We will simply put this site in a link explorer such as SEMRush or Ahrefs, and if you are lucky enough, they haven't hidden their PBN from these tools and you can easily find their PBN.

Once you find the PBN, just go through every article on it and click on the links in them. It will take you to other niche sites of theirs, and usually they are pretty crappy as well. The PBN you find can also be a public blog network, where a lot of sites share the same PBN - either way, you've found some niches and can see if they are ranking high as well.

If you find someone with a empire of sites that are all easily outrankable, they have pretty much done the niche selection for you. You can easily pick niches that you see potential in and think you can rank for. This requires a bit of work initially, but it can be really rewarding once you get it down. You can find a bunch of niches every time you dig up someone's PBN. This is one of the most efficient ways I use to find niches.

Summary of Niche selection

Niche selection is crucial when making a website. It is obvious that a lot of people struggle when trying to pick a niche and this can be the reason why most people fail at making profitable websites. I have always targeted low competition niches, just because I like the fast results and also the fact that they can be highly profitable. These are the ways I find my niches.

I hope this guide gave you some new perspectives on niche selection and that you might be able to use it when finding the next niche for your website. In the next guide, we will elaborate on the 5 niches we found, I have not done it yet myself so I am also excited to see what we will find in there. Guide How to Analysis Keyword Competition

So you want to create a web site..

You've decided an Amazon review site is a good first choice. I agree with you. It's a great first choice. Amazon has almost every product imaginable and it's easy to get at least 15-20% clickthrough rates from your site to Amazon, with 5% to 10% conversion rates on Amazon.

But, you can't just pick any old niche. As tempting as it might seem to create a "best toaster" or "best blender" site. Don't. You won't even make a dent without a budget of at least $1k/mo for SEO and enough experience to build a nice PBN.

What you want are those nice juicy low competition keywords where you can put up a site and land on page 2-3 in 2-3 weeks with absolutely no SEO.

Competition Level Ranks

First we need a ranking system for determining the competition level of a site. Let's use 1 to 10.

1-3 = Low comp
4-6 = medium comp
7-9 = high comp
10 = insane comp

So 1 is a super low comp, 2 is a low comp and 3 is a moderately low comp.
4 is low medium comp, 5 is medium, 6 is a harder medium
7 is a softer hard comp, 8 is hard comp, 9 is very hard
10 is insane. Let's never speak of it again :)

I would call 'best toasters' a 7. There's not really much beyond a 7 for Amazon keywords. 8+ is where you're into the realm of payday loans, gambling, insurance, finance where you're up against people with 5 and 6 figure budgets. 9+ is where you're up against big companies with near unlimited SEO budgets and resources.

I personally target 3's to 5's just now. I'm going to develop my own algorithm for determining low competition keywords, do some serious analysis and start targeting 1's and 2's, but just now I don't bother finding them.

3's = A couple dozen web 2's and some bookmarks you'll get a few page 1's. Mostly high page 1's. Add in a small handful, 3-6 pbn links and you'll get top 3's
4's = The web 2's will get you on page 2. You'll get high page 1's if you build more web 2's and throw in tiered link building. 5-10 pbn links will get you in the top 5, 8-12 the top 3.
5's = You'll struggle to do much with the web 2's other than get in the top 100. You could get page 1 by building maybe 100 good tier 1 web 2's and boosting them with tier2/3 using tools like rankerx and gsa. Page 1 for 5's are 10-15 pbn links.
6's = 20-50 pbn links.

These are just some rough estimates to give you an idea of what's needed. You'll understand more about what a 3 is, and what a 5 is as you read on. Note, the type of PBN links I'm talking about are your own private blog network links. Buying 20 cheap blog posts from the marketplace isn't going to rank you on page 1 for a level 6 comp keyword, but having 20 of your own 15 TF+ sites will.

The overall competition level here is a product of relevance and strength scores. Let's look at those.

Relevance vs Strength

The first thing to understand is there's two things to look at when analysing the SEO competition of keywords.

Relevance

and

Strength

Let's use an example "best toasters"

Relevance

This is a measure of relevant the page is for the keyword. You'll encounter these scenarios, in order of most relevant, to least relevant :

1) The page is targeting the keyword exactly. You'll have a title like "Best Toasters Tried & Tested"

2) The page is targeting a highly related keyword. A title like "Toaster Reviews: Our Recommendations" or "Top Toasters for 2016" We know as humans 'best toasters' is pretty much the same as 'toaster reviews' and since Hummingbird, so does Google.

3) The page is targeting the niche, but not the keyword exactly. This would be titles like :

"A Radical New Toaster Changes Breakfast Forever"
"A Toaster That Begs You to Use It: Welcome to the Bizarro Smart Home"
"Splurge on This Toaster Because It Actually Works"

So pages that are targeted at toasters, perhaps a review of 1 individual toaster, or just discussions of toasters in general.

4) The page is targeting something loosely related to the niche of the keyword. titles such as :

"OvenBacon.net: How to Cook Bacon in the Oven"

Hard to find even on page 10+ for "best toasters". But some examples off the top of my head would be :

"How to Repair Your Toaster"

This is the 'toaster' niche, but it's not the 'toaster review niche', so it's a related niche.

"Cheap Kitchen Equipment"

Maybe we have a page that has stuff on toasters, blenders and steak knives.

5) The page is targeting something quite irrelevant to the keyword. Not even related to the niche.

Hard to find for "best toasters". We'd need a more obscure example here. Let's use the keyword "is diet coke good for programmers"

One of the results on page 1 is this :

"Diet Soda vs. Regular Soda: Is One Worse For You Than The Other"

That's an example of a '5'. Entirely useless to the searcher.

This gives us 5 levels. 1 = highly relevant. 5 = not relevant. We now have 2 ranking levels. 1-10 overall competition level and 1-5 relevance.

Let's summarise our new scores.

1) Targets exact keyword. Exact keyword in title. Highly relevant.
2) Targets highly related keyword. Synonym of exact keyword. Very relevant. Basically the same as 1 and you won't have much of an on-page advantage being a 1 vs your competitor who is a 2.
3) Not targeting keyword, but targeting the niche the keyword is in. Moderately relevant. As a 1 you'll have a strong advantage against your competitors who are 3's.
4) Not targeting keyword and only loosely targeting the niche the keyword is in. Perhaps targeting the wider niche of the keyword. Loosely relevant. As a 1, you'll have a very strong advantage against competitors who are 4's.
5) Not targeting keyword or anything even closely related to the niche the keyword is in. Entirely IRRELEVANT. As a 1, you'll obliterate any 5's on page 1 with ease.

Now, if we have all 1's and 2's for a keyword, this doesn't mean it's high comp.

However. If we have all 5's for a keyword it definitely does mean it's low comp.

5's = This is a 1 to 2 comp
4's = This is a 2 to 3 comp
3's = A 3 to 6 comp. This entirely depends on the strength of the pages which we'll look at in the next section. It would only be 6's if we have some seriously strong sites like thewirecutter.com targeting the broader niche. Even then 6 is a push.
1's and 2's = At best it's a 3. It'll only be a 3 if the strength of the sites targeting it are low. At worst it's a 10 comp level. :) We really have NO clue at this stage and need to look at the strength.

The first thing we can conclude here is that we don't even need to look at the strength of sites if all we're looking for is competition level 1 to 3 keywords. If that's your goal then backlinks don't matter at all. Just look for relevance level 4/5.

Strength

It's very hard to accurately judge strength, and it varies so much. A site might only have 30 backlinks from 20 root domains, but they're contextual from SUPER strong sites like cnn and huffingtonpost, in which case I'd call it a level 3 strength, but it good be a 4. We don't know exactly how Google works. The only accurate way to determine exact competition is to build a site, and even then there's an element of randomness, but we can guestimate the strength well enough to make some informed decisions.

With that in mind please take these figures only as rough guides and try to build your own frame of reference.

The strength of a page ranking for a keyword can be discovered by looking at the following:

Majestic TF/CF
Moz PA/DA
Ahrefs Rank
PR (Not updated in a while, but if pages have PR they're strong and old. If they DONT have PR it doesn't mean anything though. They could still be super strong.)
Number of backlinks
Number of linking root domains
The type of sites linking to the page and the overall site.

As above for relevancy, let's use a rating system of 1 to 5, where 1 is the strongest and 5 is the weakest. (The opposite of what I'm using for the overall comp level. Sorry about that.)

Level 1 strength: 1000+ backlinks. 200+ root domains. TF 40+ Ahrefs rank 50+ and the type of backlinks are mostly contextual, from well known sites.
Level 2 strength: 1000+ backlinks. 200+ root domains. TF 30+ Ahrefs rank 40+. Similar to 1, but the backlinks aren't quite so impressive. More unknown sites in the link profile. Either real links from less known sites, or a large PBN.

1/2 are to be avoided. Combine 1/2 strength with 1/2 relevancy and you're talking 7+ comp level.

Level 3 strength: 500+ backlinks. 100+ root domains. TF 20+ Ahrefs rank 30+. Quite a few decent looking contextual backlinks. Maybe a couple from well known sites, but mostly just less known sites and/or a smaller PBN of probably 20-50 sites.

A level 3 strength combined with a 1/2 relevancy is a solid 6 to 7 comp level.

A level 3 strength combined with a 3 relevancy is about a 5 comp level.

A level 3 strength combined with a 4/5 relevancy is a 2 to 4 comp level.

Level 2 strength: 100+ backlinks from 20 root domains. TF 10+ Ahrefs rank 20+. A few contextuals from some minor sites, maybe 5-10 PBN links.

A level 2 strength combined with 1/2 relevancy would be a 4 to 5 comp level.

A level 2 strength combined with a 3 relevancy would be a 3 to 4 comp level.

A level 2 strength combined with a 4/5 relevancy would be a 1 to 3 comp level.

Level 1 strength: Under 100 backlinks and 20 root domains. Under TF 15, Under Ahrefs rank 20. (TF10-15 could be 1 or 2 strength). Perhaps 1-2 contextual links. Maybe 1-5 PBN links. Crappy links like comments/bookmarks/web 2's. Maybe no links at all. General weak link profile.

A level 1 strength combined with a 1/2 relevancy would be a 3 comp level.

A level 1 strength combined with a 3 relevancy would be a 2 to 3 comp level.

A level 1 strength combined with a 4/5 relevancy would be a 1 to 2 comp level.

Here's another way to look at strength 1 to 5.

Level 1 strength = Authority sites, real, run by companies, very popular, very high quality content, lots of natural links.
Level 2 strength = Like 1, but a little less impressive.
Level 3 strength = Very strong affiliate sites backed by strong PBNs or natural links. Smaller authority sites etc.
Level 4 strength = Moderate affiliate sites. Decent backlinks.
Level 5 strength = Weak sites. Almost no backlinks or half hearted attempt at SEO.

In terms of SEO budgets :

Level 1 strength = Only go after if you've got a minimum of $25k/mo+ for content, guest posting, building a huge pbn, buying paid links on top sites.
Level 2 strength = $10k/mo+ Similar to 2, but less
Level 3 strength = $1k/mo. Enough to build a nice 25-50 PBN and have a writer handle your content.
Level 4 strength = $250/mo. Enough of a budget for some SEO tools and a small, but healthy PBN of around 15-25.
Level 5 strength = $50/mo. Small budget. Manual work mostly, with some budget spent on building a very small PBN of up to 5-8 sites.

If you've got less than $50/mo I wouldn't even bother with SEO. Get a part time job or do whatever it takes to at least get $50/mo. Realistically aim for $250/mo, which is a nice healthy SEO budget and will allow you to comfortably get various tools and build a nice PBN.

In conclusion most of you will want to be finding competition level 1 to 3 keywords. Comp level 4 at a push.

How to build SEO Silos: Full Amazon Example

Building the Site & Siloing

This chapter is going to be more practical and straight to the point. There's not really any theory here. I'm just going to take you through the essential plugins and how to setup custom menus for each page.

I've setup a fresh wordpress site to do this, so I'll take some screenshots to show you what it should look like.

I'm not going to write any articles, and the headlines are going to be simple, like "Best Beard Trimmers", but what it'll show you is how the site should be structured. What we discussed back in the previous chapters will help you decide on titles and headings that are appropriate, so I won't go into that further.

I'm just going to refer to this as 'siloing', because it is. Even though it's not strict siloing, it's actually a better form of siloing. When I talk about site architecture and/or siloing, consider these interchangeable.

When to Silo

I have 3 ways of building websites.

All of them would come under the banner of 'silo'ing in the strictest sense. However, I wouldn't really call the first version siloing. I think I've probably contradicted myself with my terminology. I probably said in previous chapters I don't silo for small sites, but on second reflection, everything I do is actually a form of siloing. The terminology isn't too important. I'll describe the 3 ways, and give you an example for the middle one.

Small Websites

I define a small website as 1 niche, with 1 sub-niche.

This type of siloing is for very small websites, with only 1 topic. For example. "bestblenders.org" (deliberately doesn't exist). Here, you're only reviewing blenders, and nothing else. Not even juicers.

See the brown node, "Best Nose Hair Trimmer"?

Replace that with "Best Blenders", and replace the blue ones underneath, like "The Truth About Nose Hair" with individual blender reviews/supporting blender articles.

Remove everything else. The homepage is where the "best nose hair trimmer" would be.

This is the absolute simplest silo, and it's just ONE silo. :) The reason I'm calling it siloing is because I still use pages in wordpress and make the supporting articles child pages of the "best blender" page. (You'll learn how to do this in the example)

Even though I don't HAVE to do this. There's not much difference between this and creating posts as most basic sites do. The blender supporting articles won't be "beneath" the best blender page though if you're just using posts. You won't have urls like http://www.bestblenders.org/best-blenders/vitamix-professional-series-750/

So even if you don't plan to expand a site, I recommend using the "single silo" structure, which you'll understand how to do for one niche after following the full example below.

Under electric shavers, we create extra light silos for each brand. You can choose to do this for your small site if you like.

Writing 3000+ word "best blah reviews" articles will rank you for a lot of best/review/top keywords, but you'll have less relevance for brand keywords(Which are actually harder btw. I did an analysis comparing best/top/review keywords with brand)

However, the one advantage you have with targeting the non-review keywords like "braun shaver series 9000" is that there's a LOT more of them, and although the bigger volume ones tend to be harder because you're competing with a) brands and b) big ecommerce sites like amazon/walmart, there are a lot of smaller ones that you will get page 1 for just through sheer topical relevance.

Side Note: Amazon tends to have strong topical relevance for brands/categories, but weak topical relevance for reviews/best of, that's why you can easily outrank amazon for 'best' keywords, but not brand keywords.

Side Note 2: There are 2 core ways to make money in a niche.

1) Create multiple big 3000 word 'best of' guides for different sub-niches and build up your relevancy for reviews. A lot of them tend to be medium comp, so to rank for the review keywords you need at least moderate SEO.

2) To make money without ANY SEO, go super deep into 1 sub-niche. Silo out all the brands. Have comparison pages for the brands and review EVERY product you can find and create even more supporting articles. 100-150 pages, with siloing, and no backlinks and you are going to make money. I can't promise $1000's, but as long as you've not picked a stupid niche, you should hit at least $200-$300/mo up to about $1k/mo. 100 articles for $200-$300/mo might not seem great, but when that money is recurring, it allows you to then reinvest that into your next amazon review site, and this time make it a smaller site with more powerful SEO.

Medium Websites

The live example we'll be using, a shaver site, is a medium site. I define a medium site as 1 niche, with more than 1 sub-niches. Ie, the niche is electric shavers, the sub-niches are face shavers(which are just called 'electric shavers' as they're the common one), bread trimmers, nose hair trimmers and head shavers.

Large Websites

A large website I define as more than 1 niche, with more than 1 sub-niche per niche.

Take our electric shaver site. Make it a "mens luxury products" site, or make it a "Electric Gadgets" site, or a "Grooming" site and you've turned it into a large website.

The key difference here between the way I silo medium and large is this:

In a medium site, you have 1 niche, and several sub-niches. I will keep my secondary menu for each sub-niche with only supporting articles/reviews for that sub-niche, ie, braun reviews sub menu on the braun pages, but I will also, where appropriate link off to anywhere else within the niche. That could be the beard silo page, or even an individual beard trimmer review. This goes against 'strict siloing', but because these are sub-niches inside a niche, I believe it's better not to be too tight with your contextual links.

However, with a large site, I would do traditional silo linking between niches, which means anything inside the electric shaving niche, would only link to say, the silo page for "Luxury Soaps". I wouldn't link to an individual soap review.

for niche to niche linking, a child can only link to 1) It's direct descendents 2) Parents/grandparents. 3) Uncles/Aunts.

For sub-niche to sub-niche menu linking, a child only links to 1, 2 and 3 as above.
For sub-niche to sub-niche contextual linking, a child can link to ANY descendent below the start of that sub-niche page.

Choosing a Theme

It's hard to advise on this and only something you'll learn with time and experience. Some themes are messy with weird configurations. Try to choose something that looks clean.

The one thing I will say is this.

After installing your theme, go to your homepage and view the source.

You're going to look for the site title and site description. That's the "just another wordpress site" bit.

I'm doing the example on tombelfort.com btw. I'm not using it just now. I'll be taking screenshots for posterity, but until I need the site for something else the example site will be up there. In the future it's just going to be my personal blog, with general musings on life, business, success and whatnot, so it's quite fine that it's public. :)

Now, in the code above, notice we have p tags for the site title and description. That's what we want, and how it is in the default theme.

Some crazy themes will make the site title/description h1/h2/h3. You don't want that. The only H1 should be your post or page headline name.

Essential Plugins

1. Yoast SEO

A few simple things to configure on yoast.

We don't want categories or tags for these sort of sites. Categories and tags are fine if you're just running a big flat blog without a predefined architecture. We have a known, set architecture here that we're designing with pages.

Continuing Yoast Configuration

Now we strip the category base from category urls. We're not using categories here, but I just do this as a matter of habit. Categories are useful for blogs. So if you decide you want to add a blog to a site, where you'll just write a lot of general content related to potentially anything within the site as a whole, then you would start using categories. This is why I automatically set category pages and tags pages to noindex, and remove them from the sitemap. Even if you use them, you don't want them in the sitemap. It's not a good idea to have google crawl a lot of low quality pages on your site. It makes your site look thin. Categories and tags are just for users, and the small SEO benefit of having some extra category keywords on the article page.

We also want to redirect attachment URLs to parent posts. You definitely do not want dozens, if not 100's of attachment pages indexing in google. This again makes your site look thin. So we'll redirect attachment pages to parent posts.

All done with yoast!

You'll want to use this configuration for every site.

2. No Follow All External Links

This is a great little plugin. It's actually no longer supported which its a shame, but hopefully it'll keep working with each new Wordpress.

What's great about it is it'll just automatically nofollow ALL external links and if you want to follow a specific link you just do <ahref = "http://externalsite.com/some-page" class="follow"> and it won't add the rel=nofollow to that link.

No configuration required.

Setting up the Site Architecture

The way to set this up is to use pages. To make the hierarchy you just set parent pages. Let's create the first 3 pages to show what it looks like

You can browse tombelfort.com for a while to view the example shaving site. Eventually when I get the time that's going to be my personal blog. I'm never going to have any affiliate links on it btw. It's just going to be my place where I can write about marketing, IM, productivity, life, whatever I feel like. Perhaps something akin to http://www.viperchill.com/. But I'll leave the shaving site up for a while. It'll be there for at least 2-3 months, maybe longer. I've not got plans any time soon to start writing on my blog. Too many other things.

You can use extra keywords there too, notice I'm using 'razors' and 'mens' etc. Make it look natural, clean and organized for humans and where appropriate use different kinds of keywords like 'mens electric razors' instead of 'mens shavers', which wouldn't go so well with the parent text of 'electric-shavers' anyway.

Here's how you do it.

Make sure you do this BEFORE setting this to the static home page, otherwise you can't edit it.

Now, publish.

Set this as the homepage.

Now open up http://i.imgur.com/7TEMumc.jpg if it's not already open.

You're going to set each child page to have the parent page as its "parent" in wordpress. So browns set parent to the page we just created, yellows to 'best electric shaver reviews', reds to 'braun' and so on.

I'll show you how to do it with one page here.

Now you do this for all pages.

I've created all the pages now. Here's the sitemap so you can refer to the URL names your reference.

Creating Your Menus

Next we create the primary menu.

Now add your primary pages.

Rename them and shuffle them making the highest priority one appear to the left appropriately.

Note, I only put the brand pages as dropdowns, not the supporting articles for the silo. They will have a sub-menu. I don't want my main menu to be cluttered.

Now for each silo we create a custom menu. I'll show you how to do it for one and you can repeat for them all using my site as a reference.

Add a new menu.

Call it Brands

Add this plugin: Simple Page Sidebars

Follow the plugin instructions. It's super simple.

That will allow you to create custom menus for each page.

So for best electric shavers we add just the brands.

To have multiple custom menus you need to edit php. I would normally have a Shaver Brands menu, and a 'Shaver Article' menu with the 'how to identify your beard type' articles.

The one menu is fine though. For this example I've just put brands in.

Method How To Get Traffic on Instagram

Today I present to you a method I’ve found while browsing Instagram. I’ve never seen it discussed anywhere and thought I’d bring it up (sorry if I expose someones’ secret method to $$$, not my intention). So, in this method we will make use of the “Explore” page on Instagram.

As far as I am concerned, the explore page is related to content that have been liked by people you follow, or content that you regularly like/comment. Lately I’ve been getting a lot of weird videos of people popping pimples, or “relaxing” videos of people cutting in jelly and such, I’ve seen these videos (yes, even the pimple popping one) and reacted to the description they’ve put under each video.

“Pokémon Go Coins available for Free, check link in bio!”

The video had 50,000+ views. So, a lot of people have seen these posts, and many are for sure acting upon the description. Because, which 12 year old wouldn’t want free Pokémon Go coins (or 20 year old for that matter)?

I went to their bio and saw a URL which directed me to a CPA locker for Pokémon Go coins. Ok, so how the fuck are they ending up in my “Explore”-page, who are liking these videos? I went onto checking the likers of the video, it was a few random people, but then there were big accounts with a few million followers each – around 10 of them or so (which I follow).

How do you get 1M accounts to like your pimple popping videos then? Well, reach out to them! Offer them $1 per like (this is something I am sure MOST people would do) and say that you want X thanks per day, for X amounts of accounts. Connect with a group of let’s say 10 big accounts (many big accounts are ran by the same person actually, so this can become even easier than having 10 different people to pay) and have them like your posts.

Post videos which are easily noticed in the Explore-page, like a big fucking pimple, or some smooth videos of someone cutting up a piece of jelly. The videos doesn’t necessarily need to be related to your niche, as long as you get an attention-grabbing video you will get attention towards a generic offer that many wouldn’t say no to, this can be “Win a free iPhone 7, check the link in my bio!” or the latest app trend, which right now is Pokémon Go.

The videos also got a lot of people tagging their friends in, that want to share the joy of watching a slice of jelly being cut up, or to disgust their friends with a pimple being popped (or maybe they enjoy it). This results in even more exposure, for free!

Send out a message to each of these big accounts as you upload your content and pay them accordingly. Maybe put a budget of $10 per post, which is 10 likes from big accounts. Most of the accounts I noticed had 3-5 videos, so you can literally set up these accounts in 5 minutes.

If my theory is right, which it should, you’ll be able to get a shitload of traffic with just a couple of dollars per post, the more big accounts you have liking your videos, the more exposure you’ll get. Scale it as much as possible with more accounts and likers. No need for a automated bot that might get you banned unless you’re going at a really slow pace of like 200 follows per day.

Guide How To Build PBN With Low Competition Keyword

1. Determine your Competition

Before you rush into building a PBN, you need to know how many domains you think you will need. Sure, this is not going to be accurate, but you need a starting point. Finding a good domain is a long process so getting too many when working on a budget is not exactly a reasonable thing to do.

My rough estimator for how many links I need is this:

Low Competition - 10 Domains
Medium Competition - 20 Domains
High Competition - 30 + Domains

This is rough, but this is what I start with. If I have a super easy KW or most easy KWs you do not need ANY PBN links. If you choose to do no other link building you would want to start with around this number. These numbers are high and you will need to test to figure this out yourself. But in my experience, I want more domains that I need just in case.

Although I use rough estimates you can find an easy way to determine how many sites you may need, so I will explain that. Step one is you choose you KW and pull up SERPs for your KW. You then evaluate every domain ranking for your targeted KW. If your KW is 'Acne' you want to pull up SERPs and check the top 12 first to see why the domains are ranking.

For the term 'Acne' you will find the top ten is filled with mostly Medical sites, Magazines and massive Authority Sites. If you check the back link profile (I checked this term several months ago, so things may have changed) you can see why most terms are ranking. Most pages appear to be ranking based off of a lot of natural links on other high profile websites and massive domain authority plus a lot of social signals. None of these domains look like they would be propped up by a PBN.

You go to page two, then three. What are you looking for? The domain which is ranking highly but does NOT look like it deserves to be in SERPs based on the back link profile. You are essentially trying to sniff out the sites ranking with a PBN.

Then you open up these three link crawlers:

- Ahrefs
- Majestic
- Moz Open Site Explorer

You then search the back link profile of the domains you think are ranking and double check any potential PBNs. If the person built the PBN right, you will not see any reason why the site is ranking. That is a good indicator that they are using a PBN.

Once you find a site you think is ranking with a PBN, search the internet for sites linking to the domain in Google. Remember, google still indexes the sites in the PBN while crawlers are normally blocked. This will take some work but you should find several dozen links when searching google for the URL. For example, if the site I wanted to check the back link profile of was an inner page of 'myface.com" I would search google for the URL, or "www.myface.com/Acne-Solutions". I then want to go through the pages linking to the ranking site and see how many PBN sites are linking to this site.

What are some flags that site is a PBN site?

- Crawlers blocked
- Who Is Privacy
- Po Box address used in Who Is
- Archives / Wayback history completely different than current site
- Many Broken Links
- Many 404 redirected links to home page
- Using WP
- No Logo
- Default Free Theme
- No Profile Pictures
- Little Comments (Blocking all crawlers from your site will prevent spam tools from finding the site in many situations)
- No Social Media Accounts
- Cheap Hosting
- Etc

These are basic foot prints but I could keep typing all day. You just want to look for the obvious and trust your guy when sniffing out networks. A note on Po Boxes as a foot print. For most companies you can find their Po Box address online and you can also do a google search to find the Po Box address of people on public mailing lists. Take the Po Box used to register the domain and search for it in google. The flag is if the details do not match.

This is a very basic explanation on how to sniff out PBNs and if I focused on explaining this I would be here all day. So I will keep this brief. The point is you want to sniff out the site ranking the highest with a PBN, find the domain and their back link profile, and simply 'one up them'. So if this term has a site ranking with 50 domains, you want 51 better domains linking to your site. It is not as simple as that, but it is where you start.

2. Find your Domains

This is the fun part (No, it is not). You now need domains for your PBN. You have a few notable options including:

- GoDaddy Auctions
- Expireddomains.net
- Expireddomains.com
- Scrape domains yourself
- Buy unregistered domains off of BHW / SEO Clerks / Fiverr
- Buy registered domains off of BHW / SEO Clerks / Fiverr
- Use a domain broker
- Etc

Let us go over these options. GoDaddy auctions leaves you exposed to other SEOs knowing the sites in your network, and getting spammed when you register. Plus you will most likely over pay.

Expired Domains.net is a tool commonly used by SEOs to find domains which are dropped. It provides an easy way to sort domains by a variety of metrics including PR, Age, Back Links, etc.

Expired domains.com shows you GoDaddy auction finds. So does some tools or services on BHW. These are viable options to find domains but I do not suggest using it as you are still subject to issues that GoDaddy auctions gives you.

You can also scrape domains yourself. This is what I suggest. You can use a lot of tools to do this. Some sellers use custom soft ware to filter domains which is what you want to eventually shoot for. The most commonly used program is Scrapebox for this task. I personally use Domain Hunter Gatherer. Both are, in my opinion, the best two options to find domains yourself.

Buying registered or unregistered domains off of a site like BHW can be a great or a horrible idea. Some sellers offer crap, others offer amazing domains. I am not here to tell you who to use, but I will explain how to filter domains in the next section.

You can also use a domain or website broker to find PBN domains. This is what you would do if you have a LOT of money to throw at a project. Guys like meathead and SkyrocketSEO sell premium domains / websites if you have the money. Is this the best option? Most likely not, but these are some of the best links you will ever get. I personally do not do this because I do not need domains in the $XXX to $XXXX range to rank my KWs.

Now you know the commonly used ways to find domains. The point is you do it. When you are starting most likely you will either scrape them yourself or buy cheap domains from a seller. I will warn you - you need to review the domains yourself before you buy or register.

A final note on what types of domains you want. Any domain extension (.Com, .Org, Etc) will do. Any niche will do as well, you can either re build or re purpose the domain later.

3. Find your Domains Part II

Part two? Yup. This is too much content for one section, and this needs the most work as this is where people mess up a LOT.

You now have a basic grasp of WHERE to find domains. I will focus on the scraping your own, but any option is a good one mentioned above. It all depends on you. These tips also apply to buying domains found by other people.

The first thing is filtering domains. You need to use Scrapebox, DHG or another program to scrape for domains in your niche. You do not need niche relevant domains. I normally re - brand the best domains I can. But you do need a seed KW to find domains. For most people this means using your niche.

You fire up your program and scrape your domains. DHG allows you to filter domains automatically and it finds the metrics and such for you with no real effort.

All those metrics are JUST filters. Metrics (PA, DA, PR, TF, CF, Ahref Rank, Alexa, Moz Spam Score, etc) are just another tool to filter. You want to use metrics as a guide to determine if a domain has good enough back links to rank your money site.

You should filter domains first by your minimum metrics. I personally use: DA / PA 8 +, TF 15 +, TF to CF Ratio 1.8 or less. You can use ANY metrics you want to filter by. Some people still like PR. Why do I chose the metrics I do? This is because EVERY SEO uses PA / DA 10 + and they skip over a LOT of good domains because Moz updates pages the LEAST out of every metric judge (Aside for PR - Obviously). Most SEOs look for TF 20 + and miss many good domains and are stuck with many bad domains.

Note: When checking metrics and the back link profile check the www. and the non www. version, plus http: and https: versions of both domains. You may find different results for EACH different version.

All metrics are easy to spam. I want TF 15 + and more importantly 15 + with a CF ratio of less than 1.8. This is a good indicator of a non - spammed domain.

Once I use these metrics to filter I use Majestic, and Ahrefs to pull up the back links associated with the domain. This is the second part of filtering a domain. You want to make sure the links causing the metrics to bump up are actual quality links. Most people use Majestic, but I tend to find that Ahrefs has more websites indexed and show more links over all. Moz Open Site explorer tends to show the least.

You also want to check Who Is history and see how quickly the domain changes hands, this can be a sign of a domain being a PBN. Record the details of the last person who owns the domain as well. I will explain shortly.

What do you judge quality by? Links from authority sites, links on high TF / PA pages with low OBL, etc. You want to make sure the links pointing to your potential domain are of quality. You also want the strong links to be contextual links. Contextual links pass more power. This is why the domains sold with links from authority sites are powerful.

At this point, when I am checking all of the metrics and link types I check refering domains. You want many contextual referring domains. A lot of domains will have low referring domains. These domains will NOT rank you well. A single super high TF blog comment can shoot TF up. so you need to make sure the actual referring domains are strong and plentiful. I personally shoot for 15 + for all of my domains.

This is the step most people skip. A domain can be pumped up in terms of PA, DA, TF and CF with some spam or blog comments. This is great for pumping metrics and passing link juice, but two domains with identical TF can have a vastly different back link profile. I see this all the time and I skip a LOT of domains with high TF / PA / DA because the back links are just not strong enough.

4. Find your Domains Part III

I promise, almost done.

Once you filter domains by metric and quality of back link you need to judge spam and anchor text. Why do I filter spam after I filter metrics? Because if I filtered ALL of my domains for spam and anchors that were in the metric criteria I would never get it done.

What I do is check in Majestic for anchor text used. If something looks over optimized I give it a flag. I do not remove it because of the next step. I search google for my site URL to see what links I pull up for the domain and go through them. I check past Who Is and google cache for the domain. I am looking for anything fishy or suspicious. Then I go to archives.org / way back machine to see all of the snap shots of the domain.

What am I looking for?

I am looking mainly for:

1. Chinese Sites
2. Russian Sites
3. Obvious Spam
4. PBN Sites
5. One Page affiliate sites

Essentially any flag that would indicate that the domain could be penalized. These indicators normally mean to me that the domain was spammed or penalized.

I also look for the historical back link profile and snap shots in way back machine for 301 redirects which match up with an increase of links which would indicate a SEO using a 301 to filter spam.

This is a good list to filter the domains and their back link profile far enough to make things work.

This is the most important part of picking your expired domain. Your domain will not index or will most likely have a penalty if you skip this step.

A domain can be pumped up in terms of PA, DA, TF and CF with some spam or blog comments. I see this all the time and I skip a LOT of domains with high TF / PA / DA because the back links are just not strong enough.

5. Registering your domains

This is the part where you actually spend money. DHG or Scrapebox are an investment you need to make to play the game if you use the self scraping option, and you need time to go through things. Now you pony up money.

Registering domains can be expensive. If you are tight on money you can use coupons from most hosts once per account. GoDaddy has 0.99 domain coupons for one domain per account. If you need to save some pennies you can create new accounts for every domain. Yes, you can use the same paypal account for each account. You also get discounts when you register new products over a 75 on GoDaddy.

On average each domain will cost about $10.

What I suggest and now do (It costs more but it works) is to spread your domains evenly through out the common registrars:

- GoDaddy
- Name.com
- NameSilo
- NameCheap
- HostGator
- Etc.

Think logically here, most websites are registered by GoDaddy, so have half your domains with GoDaddy makes sense. Try not to over think this step.

Now, the question everyone has is what details do you put on each domain.

You can take the easy way out and use Who Is Protection for every domain. The problem is this is a foot print. Some suggest using a Po Box address. Luckily for me I know several people who actually own a Po Box so what I do is simple. I ask the people I know if I can use there contact information for a domain. I have several dozen real Po Box addresses for multiple domains. You can fake Po Box details if you want but again, having most of your domains with Po box addresses is suspicious.

Remember when I mentioned how to sniff out fake Po Box addresses? I am not that smart. If I do that, so do other people. You can also go to USPS.com and plug in the Po Box address and the name to register the Po Box to your USPS account to pay online. Anyone can do that. The magic is when the name is not associated with the Po Box, the USPS.com system will not let you associate the account. This is a sure fire way to know if the details of the Po Box are made up. Again, if I can do it, so can many smarter than me.

What I do is I use real information. I make up a name of a person and then google search for that persons name. I find the previous address they lived at and use that name and address for my domain. You also need to worry about SOA email when registering a domain. When I use a fake persona I also register an email address on a paid email account which matches the persons name. So if my persons name is Bill Huntslet I register the email billhuntslet@paidmail.com.

Remember when I told you to write down the last owner of the site in Who Is? A tip is to use the name of the last person who registered the domain as your new contact details. That way it looks like the previous owner decided to re start the website.

It is easy to do and makes things easier to monitor.

Most registrars allow you to register a domain in your account and use different Who Is details, so that is where I add the new email addresses and physical addresses.

Just a note, keep track of these email addresses. Sometimes the domains will get an email from Icann to check in to see if you are a real person (I just got one myself) so you do need to check these emails from time to time.

A final note, you do want your account holder name to be your real name to prevent getting locked out from your domains down the line. This is why fake details as the account holder is a bad idea. It is easier and safer to just add new Who Is details when you register a new domain and if questioned, you can state it is a clients website.

6. Time to get down to Hosting

First thing first, some links:

When picking a host, most people go for CHEAP. This is a fine strategy if you want to be burned with down time and hosts vanishing (It does happen) or re - sellers of hosting (It happens ALL the time). In fact, I tend to find several of the low and mid priced hosts tend to just be hooking your site to an existing reseller account they have. The problem with this is your are limited in IP diversity and create a foot print. You can buy two different hosting plans from two different people when buying cheap hosting, so be careful.

Now, onto my suggestions. A lot of people swear by Web Hosting Talk, and Dollar SEO Hosting. Web Hosting talk is great, as you can get different a real hosting providers. I suggest you read ALL of the reviews to make sure none are duplicates being re sold.

Dollar SEO hosting is good as well. What I suggest is you use the different A - Class IP options. It costs $3 per site and you get the most security by the A - Class IPs being different.

Link number three is Small Orange Hosting. This is one of the only host I will name specifically because I LOVE them as a SEO host. They provide unlimited sites. I do NOT suggest that. I do suggest picking up a $5 dollar account because I have never had down time with them and they have great support.

I do advocate using mid range and high range hosting options. Power Up Hosting, GoDaddy, HostGator, etc. The reason for this is they are the larger and more common hosts normal people use, and I want to blend in. When you use only SEO hosting providers you are putting your PBN site with a bunch of other PBN sites, which is a disaster waiting to happen.

I did the whole A - Class IP from Dollar SEO Hosting and Web Hosting talk to host my sites but that is a LOT of work for large networks. What I dabbled in were the managed systems such as Paz Hosting and Easy Blog Networks.

These services have a lot of positives and I use a couple to this day. Is it as safe as the mid range options? No. Not close. You still run the risk of putting your site with several other PBN domains.

Some people suggest CNS manipulators for make sure the IP is unique. Me? I suggest just using different hosting to prevent the head ache all together.

7. Setting up your PBN Site

You now have some hosts, a bunch of domains registered and are at the part of setting up your website.

Every one has the Go - To of Wordpress. Most of my sites are using the Wordpress CMS. When I also do is use one of the many extraction services that allow for taking the HTML and either re - uploading it back into a host or turning it into a Wordpress file.

I also want to ensure that I use a variety of different CMS options and use some HTML as well. I want to diversify things as much as possible and randomly.

A note before I get started, do not use Chrome to sign into your PBN domains. I am extra cautions and use TOR or Firefox with the plug in Zapyo to change my IP Address. Sure, google may not track this, but I am just cautious.

I will focus on Wordpress since most people will use WP and it is easy to use.

You install your CMS onto your host and you are at the point to put in work.

The obvious stuff first, make sure you remove the 'Hello World' post Wordpress automatically has. You also need to make sure WP is set to the stronger version, if better back links are pointing to www., then you want to make sure the domain is set to www. This can be edited under the 'General Setting' in WP.

As everyone says, you want to make your site look as real as possible. This means a custom / premium theme, remove footer links, add a logo, add a profile picture, etc. Make the site into a real website. I also set the author details to that of the person listed on the Who Is details. This means if 'Billy Hoggie' is the person on my Who Is details, the person who is the admin of the website is also 'Billy Hoggie'. This is a bit anal but this makes things more secure in my opinion.

Some things I do differently is I also change default premium theme colors and make sure to modify most theme settings. Most themes will have defaults such as the use of 'read more' on the home page, an announcement bar, etc. You want to change all of the defaults to make the site user friendly. If your theme is not mobile friendly, add one of the many WP Mobile plug ins. Most premium themes also allow you to remove footer links, so I advise you do that as well.

I will not write a default 'use these plug ins' because that gives foot prints. You want to randomize things completely. You do want to make sure you use Spyder Ranker Plug In or block bots via .htaccess. Spyder Ranker modifies the .htaccess file for you so it does not leave a foot print like most other plug ins do, so it is a good bet. If you use .htaccess and Robots.txt, you can find a list of what to block on BHW with a simple search (That is how I got the list I use).

You also want to add an about us and contact page to each PBN site. I also take it a step farther and add a mission statement page, 'staff index' where I list who writes on the blog / website or works for the website, FAQ, and other such pages. Again, make it as real as possible. I also set up social media accounts and use one of many social media plug ins so users can click to share or like my page / site. This looks more natural.

Now you are at the point of posting content. You want to make sure the content is unique, readable and formatted correctly. Plus, add images and video to at least some posts. Again, make the site look real.

Most people will use the generic default posting style and not use a static home page. Due to this I suggest this plug in: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-sticky/

That plug in is the easiest sticky post plug in I have seen. When you are posting content, the right side of the screen below the category and tag boxes a box will appear to allow you to select if the post is a sticky post. This allows you to control what posts are on the home page.

Before I add any links I want several articles on the domain. I shoot for at least 10 posts before I add any links.

A tip on making the WP sites NOT look like WP sites is to use a little plug in called Hide my WP. The link is here:

I am a huge fan of this Plug In. It allows for security unlike any other plug in and it changes the WP - Admin file (Which prevents hacking) and changes standard WP give always such as how URLs are formatted. It is a brilliant tool that I get a lot of use of. I suggest you pick up a copy and use it on some of your sites. Not all, again, it can be a foot print.

This plug in works EXTREMELY well when using a Premium theme which can be vastly customized. You can buy one versatile theme and then add this plug in, which makes it look like all of your PBN domains are HTML sites that are all unique from each other. This protects your site from many common methods used to sniff out a PBN.

A final note for this section, remember all of the foot prints I mentioned I use to sniff out PBNs? Make sure you cover all of them. You do not want me to find your network (Or anyone who reads this), do you?

Note: I had to add this while editing, make SURE you save back ups of your PBN domains and also do NOT use free themes or downloads. All keep ALL plug ins up to date. WP can be easy to hack and it is NOT worth the risk with exposing vulnerabilities by not having everything up to date and using freebies which are not updated.

8. Content, site focus and linking out

Content and site focus go hand and hand and are always over looked. Most PBNs are general blogs. That is great and all but does not make sense most of the time. Most sites are about one thing. Imagine if someone bought BHW to make a PBN on. The niche they are targeting is 'Soap'. They turn BHW into a general blog and post about 'Soap' along with other sites such as a home improvement site which belongs to a client. Does this look suspicious? Yes. A general blog with the name 'Black Hat World' which used to be about SEO is now a little girls blog who discusses soap?

That does not make sense. So what I do is I decide if I am going to re - brand the domain to fit my niche or re - create the site. When I re - create the site I set up a site in the same niche the site was previously in. When I re - brand I create a site in my niche that I plan on targeting primarily.

Remember the foot print of the domain suddenly being about something vastly different than it was before? This is a good point to remember that when deciding to re - brand the domain or re - create it. Also, you may want to keep in mind the tip of using the last owners details on the Who Is record.

What I do next is what makes me a special snow flake. I write an article which fits within the sites theme. For example, if the PBN domain was about automobiles and I have a money site about paint, I start by re - creating the car site and I then add a post which is about automobile paint.

Another example is if I have a money site about animal crackers and I have a PBN about education. I add a post about animal crackers as an educational tool to encourage children.

If you are missing the point still, this means that I force the content to fit into the niche of my PBN and also be relevant to my money site.

The content itself should be engaging and high quality. I also make sure it is about the same length as other posts. In my opinion, if every article is spun garbage and your article with a link is a 3,000 word post which is perfectly written your PBN looks suspicious.

9. Record Keeping and Blog Management (Plus final thoughts)

Finally, the boring part!

When paying for all of your hosts, registering your domains, and handling your PBN like a BOSS you will run into some problems. How to fix them? Keep records. Keep the records the best you can.

What I do is:

1. Write down the passwords, user names, registrars, hosting account and all important details in a note book and put that note book in a safe.

2. Have an excel sheet with all the registration dates and payment dates.

3. Have a white board with reminders for upcoming payment dates.

I need to make sure I ALWAYS have enough money to pay any fee which comes up. Record keeping will make or break you in this portion of managing a PBN.

I also keep back ups in an extrernal drive of all of my PBN sites and disconnect the drive from my computer except when I am making another back up of the site.

This section does sound anal. It is. But you will have cheap hosts go down. On that note, check your sites in a TOR browser at least once a week and check the uptime for the site. If the site is down a lot, switch hosts. It is not worth it to be constantly worried about your sites going down.

Some general tips on mangement are:

1. Have random posting dates.

2. Use Different author tones per blog (I vs We, Blog style, informational style, etc).

3. Use non - google fonts if possible.

4. Link out to other blogs or websites in your niche who are not direct competition (Everyone links out to authority sites randomly, this is a foot print).

5. Randomly do site 'relaunching' where you announce in a post you will be switching servers, changing theme, etc.

6. Monitize your PBN domains randomly (LLCs with Adsense, CPA, Amazon Associates, Click Bank, etc. Real sites monitize).

7. Allow for Guest Posts (Yup, I have a Guest Post section on several sites. In exchange for a link I take a piece of expertly written content - saves me time and money).

8. Allow some user comments or make your own.

9. Be some what active on your PBN sites social media - I update them randomly with new post links which helps them index.

These are all basic management tips to make your site look real. I can't say that enough, make the site look real. Some commonly skipped ways to make your site look real are:

1. Website Icon (Like BHW has the little black circle, Fiverr has the green circle with an F - these things appear in the open tab on your browser. Real sites have these).

2. An Active Forum (Some sites have active forums)

3. Sponsor / Partner Pages or links in footer

4. Social Sharing Icons

5. More than one writer (At least more than one name posting content)

6. Build some high quality links...

Time to expound on number six, as the last real bit of information I will give in this thread. You want to actively increase the strength of your PBN. Random Guest Posts, Web 2.0s built, and high quality contextual links are all a good idea. Social Bookmarks to force the new posts to get indexed are also a good idea.

I also make sure I randomly do mis quality Press Releases to the PBN domains. Again, this is to mimic it being a real site. 99% of people do not do this. They never do a PR to a PBN domain. Why? It can be costly and is a huge pain in the butt. But, it does help make the domain stronger and keep your site looking real.

Onpage SEO: What is it?

Onpage SEO is basically everything that you do on your website to make your site and/or subpages rank on Google. You can think of on page SEO as basically making sure that google understands exactly what your page is about.

If you look back in time the most basica versions of onpage SEO used to be adding relevent keywords that you wanted to rank for into your keyword meta tags field. Of course today this keyword meta tag is all but obsolete because Google realised that it was open to major abuse and manipulation so they started looking for other methods of detecting what a page was about.

How Google use onpage factors to determine a pages relevence for any keyword

So the whole point of onpage SEO is to make sure that Google understands what your page is about. Because we know that Google is looking at each page and trying to determine through the use of algorithms what a page is about and how relevent that page is to any keywords or phrases that are being searched for in Google. That predetermined relevance will then be used as one of many factors when deciding where to list that page within the search results.

Basic Onpage factors

First of all its a good idea to understand the basic onpage SEO factors - what you need to do in theory to optimize a page for a particular keyword or phrase.

For this part of the guide I am using some of the popular sources for onpage grading - for example the Moz onpage grading tool and the wordpress plugin Yoast SEO.

I have also taken some inspiration from a great guide here on BHW by PHPBuilt.

Keyword in URL
This involves having the keyword in the URL of your page. So for example if your article is on a sub page of your site and your main keyword is blue widgets then you might have the following URL -
http://domain.com/blue-widgets

Keyword in Title tag
The title tag contents will depend on the type of site that you have but if you are using wordpress then the title tag is normally made up from your websites main title or name followed by your pages title (The title that you put in to wordpress when you create the article).

Keyword in H1 tag
This is the text that is in between your H1 tags (You should only have one set of these tags on your page) - <h1></h1>. In wordpress this is normally made up from the title that you give your page or post.

Keyword in H2 tag
The same as above but for your H2 tags (your first sub-heading after you main (h1) page heading).

Keyword density in body
This is the number of times that you include your keyword within the body of your article. - well technically its the number of times that it appears on the page, so keep this in mind because if you have your keyword in your title and maybe your categories as well then this percentage will be bumped up.
Anyway, as per PHPBuilt's guide keyword density should be somewhere around 0.8 - 1.1% for a single word phrase and 0.5 - 0.7% for a 3 word phrase.
The idea behind this concept is making things look natural - if your keyword is widgets then it would seem likely that it be mentioned more in the content than if your keyword was blue widgets that form a circular shape when connected - the later being such a lengthy phrase it might seem unnatural to google if it appeared very reguarly within a page.

In the same respect you might expect a higher density for common words and a lower density for very uncommon words. For example if you were trying to optimize your article for the word cars then you might have a higher keyword density simply because that term is more common in general.

It is sensible to assume that Google would base keyword density checks on the density of keyword in comparison to the density of that keyword elsewhere on the internet in general - so taking the cars keyword as an example, for arguements sake lets say that keyword appears on the web 1% of the time - because it would be mentioned in loads of different sites and pages and covering a broad range of subjects. So when Google are trying to rank a page for the specific term cars they might look for a higher percentage of say 2% for that term - this would essentially cover the standard 1% that it is mentioned anyway and then an additional percentage of mentions for a page that is about that specific topic and no other related topics.
Conversly if Google were looking at the relevence of a page for a more specific keyword like cars with slick tires it might be the case that the term appears in general on the web only 0.1% of the time - because its a more specific keyword/phrase. And so when looking for sites that specifically relate to that exact topic they might expect a density of only 0.5% - which would be a lot higher than the average but lower than a density for a more common term like cars.

Anyway, in summary the keyword density can change depending on your niche, your keywords and how regularly they occur elsewhere on the web.

Keyword in bold / EM
This is a tactic that has been popular and involves putting in bold a mention of your keyword within your articles text. In theory this shows Google that your article is emphasising that keyword and thus shows google that the article is all about that keyword.

Keyword variations
These are very important and I will take some more about them below. Basically keyword variations are the different words that would be associated with your main keyword. So for example if your main keyword you are trying to optimize your page for is cars then related keywords might be automobiles, fords, vehicles, trucks etc. Depending on your actual keyword you might consider related terms to be ones that are very closely related or you might consider using broadly related terms as well - it depends how specific your keyword is and how many variations or alternatives there are.

Keyword in meta description tags
The meta description is something that you declare in the head of your article and it is something that Google will often use as the description for your page in the search results - the bit that appears below the title of your page in the results.
In wordpress you cant normally see or edit this description but if you install a plugin such as Yoast SEO then you will be given the option of editing the description as you create each page and/or post.
the theory is that having your keyword in your description shows additional relevence to Google.

Overall article topic
This can be tied in with the use of related keywords. There has been lots of talk recently about how Google looks for the overall relevence of a keyword to your page, and also about the overall subject of a page. You can manipulate or optimize this factor by included related keywords and phrases.
The theory here is that Google will often estimate the overall subject matter of a page through various means and then they will rank that page for a particular keyword even though that keyword may not neccesarily appear in the content of the page.

To back this up, there was a recent article published by ahrefs here, that showed up to 75% of pages ranking in the top 10 for Google dont have a single mention of the exact match keyword in the body of the text. This is a pretty cool figure and really should drive home the point that Google are looking at much more advanced techniques when they decide what a page is about and what it should be ranking for.

Image alt tags
The alt tags of an image are the text that can be used in place of the image - for example on a browser that doesnt render images, or for someone that cannot see and is using a screen reading software.
Adding your keyword in the alt tags for images on your page can also help to promote the relevence of that keyword within your page.

Anyway, if you follow all of the tips above then you will have a technically perfect onpage SEO - if you run a page like that through moz on page grader or you check it with yoast SEO plugin for keyword optimization then you will get an A or a green light.

However, as I just mentioned and as ahrefs study of 2 million pages confirmed there is a lot more to it than this.

My theory is that just in the same way that Google realised that the meta keywords tag was easy to manipulate, they are also realising that onpage optimization is also very easy to manipulate.
Not only that, but I think they are also realising that if they really want to give users the most relevent information they need to look beyond simple keyword checks such as those mentioned above.

And so Google are going to be developing and relying on much more complex techniques and algorithms that are ultimately trying to understand what a page is about. The way that Google and other search engines do this is through semantic analysis - there is a good explanation of it here -

If you want to manipulate this algorithm then its all about using related keywords. The way to do this is to take your main keyword and then brain storm all of the related keywords - think about it like what other ways of saying that keyword are there, what other terms might users be typing in when they are really looking for information about that keyword?

You can then take all of these related keywords and apply all of the above techniques to them. So for example, you might put one of those related keywords in bold, you might use another one of those related keywords in your h2 tag and so on.

Equally, if you are trying to rank for a keyword that doesnt read naturally in an article - like for example blue widgets big, then you might not include that phrase at all, least of all in your main heading. You might instead use the term big blue widgets in your heading. Google will know that these terms are related through its use or semantic analysis and it will also likely know that big blue widgets makes more sence than blue widgets big and thus that you are trying to manipulate the results if you are using the later as your title.

You can see the evidence of this if you search for the term on page SEO. YOu will see that the second result does not even include that phrase in its title (Thanks ahrefs for pointing that one out). This just shows that Google is smarter than that.

Other onsite factors

As well as optimizing your page as per the guidelines above there are other ways that you can optimize your site in general for your keywords.

Inter-linking
This is a very good practice which involves linking your own pages between eachother. For example if you have a page about cars then you might link to that page from another page on your site that is about trucks. Just like a backlink from an external site gives more credit to the page that it links to, so does a link from another page within your own site. This is just confirming to Google that the page is about that topic.

Reafirming relevence by other means
You can also reafirm the relevence of your content through other means including your sites page structure and through the use of breadcrumbs. Just like Google can understand that a page that mentions automobiles might be relevent for the search term cars it will also know that if a page about cars is directly below a page about road vehicles in a sites hierachy then it is even more relevent to the keyword cars. That page about road vehicles directly above it is re-enforcing the subject matter on that page. This is partly where the siloing that I talked about in part 3 comes in.

Similarly using breadcrumbs (An on page navigation aid to show a user where abouts in your sites hierachy they currently are) can also help to re-enforce the subject matter and relevence of a page.

How on-page factors compare to off-page factors

I know that a lot of people say this - you must get your onpage SEO spot on otherwise no amount of backlinks will help you. However I think this is one of those phrases (Like work harder not smarter) that has become a buzz phrase that people use without really thinking about it.

The reality is that offpage factors still hold way more weight than onpage factors and especially when you think about how Google are looking more at semantic analysis it is easy to see that onpage SEO (As we know it) is becoming less important.

From my personal experience I would say that traditional onpage factors are used more by Google when there are no other factors available - ie if there are no strong indicators from off page factors. But when there are strong offpage factors giving relevence to a website then onpage factors (Like exact match keyword density and title optimization) become less important.

I saw this recently in a site that I am working on where I had fully optimized one particular page on the site and found that once I started building backlinks to the site as a whole another un-optimized page went above the one I had optimized in the results.
This tells me that a) offpage factors hold more weight and b) Google doesnt neccesarily listen to blatent onpage optimization factors but rather uses semantic analysis to determin a pages relevence to any particular keyword.

Best Guide How To Rank a Website Without Build Backlinks

I'm not a big fan of building or buying backlinks, especially since most of my websites are in niches where my competitors would rather not help my website rank even higher than their own websites. If you're like me or you're not experienced with building or buying backlinks, then this guide on ranking websites without building backlinks is for you. So, without further ado, let's get started!

Part 1: Tools You'll Need

Before we begin, here is a short list of tools that you'll need to make this method work. All of these tools are free to use, so you don't have to worry about spending any extra money:

Google Webmaster Tools
Google Analytics
Wordpress SEO by Yoast (Recommended For Wordpress Sites)
Google Keyword Planner
The Moz Toolbar or The Majestic Toolbar

Tip: If there are alternatives tools that you prefer using over the ones listed above, feel free to use them as long as they provide accurate results.

Part 2: Choosing A Keyword Using The Google Keyword Planner

The first step to choosing a keyword is to open the Google Keyword Planner and enter any keyword related to your article (or any keyword you think would be a good match based on what your competitors are using). We're going to be looking for low competition keywords that receive a decent number of searches per month for their competition level. To help you understand this, I'm going to be using a fictitious puppy training website that needs new keywords. Now, what I prefer to do to find low competition keywords by sorting the results by "average monthly searches" and then go through the pages until I find the keywords that receive under 1,000 searches per month.

For the sake of this post, I'm going to select a variation of the keyword "crate training a dog" in the image below called "how to crate train a puppy fast".

Now, when deciding on which keyword is the best option, I initially look at 4 things to help me quickly sort through keywords (because you'll be sorting through a lot of keywords): The Moz Toolbar, the number of authority sites appearing in the SERPs, how many times the exact keyword appears in the SERPs, and my own intuition.

(Notice how those relatively unknown sites do not target the exact keyword anywhere. That's a good sign!)

The Moz Toolbar is useful for quickly glancing over pages and determining how many authority sites with Domain Authority (DA) and Page Authority (PA) over 70 appear in the SERPs (as shown in the image above). As for the part about using my intuition, even if the websites in the SERPs have low a DA and PA and the exact keyword doesn't show up much, if I think I can't compete with the sites, I usually avoid the keyword or use it as a Latent semantic indexing (LSI) keyword instead.

Speaking of LSI keywords, while you're here, you should also find a few LSI keywords. LSI keywords are simply synonyms, plurals, and other variations of your keyword, but using these LSI keywords provides a few benefits:
They can help search engines such as Google determine what your site is about (e.g., Apple the product vs Apple the fruit).
They can help your articles sound less repetitive.
There's a chance that you could rank well for the LSI keywords in addition to your primary keyword
You don't necessarily have to worry about the competition level of your LSI keywords, although I still like to check their competition level in the event that I end up ranking for the LSI keywords as well.

Tip: Avoid keyword cannibalisation, which is where you target the same keyword on more than 1 page. This causes them to compete with each other with 1 outranking the other and the other being pushed further down in the SERPs.

Part 3: Creating A Title For Your Page

Since you've found a keyword by this point, it's time to search for that keyword once again in Google, although this time you'll want to pay attention to the titles of the results. When you create a title for a blog, you're going to want to avoid using similar titles to the pages that are already displayed in the SERPs. Instead, you'll want to draw attention to your post by creating a unique page title so that more people will click on it (and increase your CTR).

For example, let's say you've chosen the keyword "crate training a dog" and the following posts showed up in the SERPs:

The Ultimate Guide To Crate Training A Puppy
You're going to want to be able to differentiate yourself from the rest of the results by creating a title that hasn't been used before. With what we know about Internet marketing and the SERPs for that keyword, we can assume that the title "10 Ways You Can Begin Crate Training A Puppy" would be competitive since people love lists due to the organisation (and because they know how many methods to expect) and beause this title is distinguished from the rest of the results.

Tip: Avoid using obnoxious page titles that contain special characters. Special characters are deterrents and looks terrible in the SERPs.

Part 4: Writing Quality Content

I'm going to keep this part short since there are so many different niches and tactics out there. Just keep your content unique and focus on writing for your target audience to help keep people engaged and on your site longer. If you're wondering what exactly quality content is, I would imagine they quality content have most of the following attributes:
Pillar articles (long, useful articles that age doesn't affect).
Accurate spelling.
Proper grammar.
Written at a reading level that's appropriate for the target audience.
Relevant sources.
Relevant high quality images.
Proper formatting (headers, bold text, paragraphs, and other ways of organising your content)

Tip: Research your target audience. If you analyse the data in Google Analytics and discover that your audience enjoys an article on your website (high page views and long session durations), then try modelling the style of your next few articles after the successful article.

Part 5: Categories and Tags

Organising your content into categories and using tags is important, but you may be wondering what the difference between categories and tags are.

Categories are meant to be more of a broad topic. For example, if you created a post about Churn and Burning, then the category would be "SEO" or Black Hat SEO"
Tags are more specific than categories. For example, if you created a post about Churn and Burning, then the category would be "Churn and Burn"
As shown in the image above, if you're using Wordpress, editing your categories and tag pages is as simple as hovering over the "Posts" tab on your dashboard and clicking on either categories or tags.

Did you also know that categories and tags have their own pages? If not, you should go and write articles for these pages. While it's unlikely that your audience will ever stumble upon these pages, it does give searches engines another page to crawl and index as well as another article to determine the overall theme of your website.

Tip: You can try writing engaging articles for your category pages and target keywords for them as well! If you put effort into your content and effectively optimise it, you'd be surprised about how many people may visit these pages.

Part 6: Meta Tags

Placing your keyword and LSI keywords in meta tags and image alt tags is a great way to not only increase your keyword density (which I will get to momentarily), but the latter can also help rank your images in Google images since you're surrounding the image with your keywords. This is especially important for websites focused on images since your target audience is more likely to use Google Images in the first place.

Tip: If you want to increase your chances of ranking in Google Images, then: add a Creative Commons license, make sure your aspect ratio is 4:3, 16:9, and 21:9; and ensure that your image isn't too small (299 pixels and under) or too large (1281pixels and larger).

Part 7: Internal Link Structure & Outbound Links

Having a strong internal link structure not only helps web crawlers find and index your pages, but placing appropriate internal links in your articles can give your audience more content to consume than what they initially came to your website for.

As for outbound links, make sure these are relevant to your website, but try to avoid linking to similar articles (e.g., your post about adding spinners to a wheelchair should not link to a post on another website about adding spinner's to a wheelchair; your visitors might like the other site more).

Tip: Always make sure that all outbound links are opened in a new tab when they are clicked. This will prevent your visitors from forgetting to return to your website if they become interested in the other website.

Step 8: Keyword Density

One search engine optimiser may say you need a keyword density between 2-3% and another search engine optimiser may say to keep your keyword density at 1%, but what should your keyword density be? The answer to that is simple: just write your article while keeping your keyword in mind. One you're done writing it, re-read the article. If it sounds repetitive, replace the repetitive keywords with LSI keywords. If you feel like the keyword wasn't used enough, add it a few more times (you can also add the keywords in image alt tags and titles if you feel like you can't find a good place to force the keyword into the article).

Tip: If you read this section expecting a percentage, then keep your keyword density between 1% and 4% (although keep it closer to 1%; this is usually enough).

Step 9: Re-Optimisation

Most people treat SEO like it's a one-time thing; you just optimise articles and never edit them again. This is nonsense, and you'll figure out why momentarily. You see, re-optimisation is simply going back to your old articles and using a different primary keyword (and possibly LSI keywords). There are many situations where you would need to go back and re-optimise your articles for a different keyword:

You chose a bad keyword and the article never ranked well or received much traffic.
You've discovered that you have new competitors who are targeting your exact keyword.
The keyword's searches-per-month dropped.
If you find yourself in any of those situations, it's probably best to re-optimise your article for a different keyword (you may even be able to use one of the LSI keywords as your primary keyword!). In case you're wondering when you should re-optimise your articles, I would wait approximately 2 weeks (or 1 week if you have a frequently updated site) before checking on the current keywords position in the SERPs.

Tip: You don't always have to re-optimise an article that is performing poorly for a keyword. Instead, you can always try to go back and find any mistakes you may have made during the initial page optimisation (e.g., high keyword density). In addition to this, use Analytics in conjunction with Google Webmaster Tools to determine which pages are performing well. Webmaster Tools let's you know how well a keyword is performing in the SERPs while Analytics will let you know the popularity of each page. You can also use Analytics to find out which pages on your website are performing poorly. Focus on re-optimising these pages before you focus on re-optimising any other pages.

Part 10: Competition Prevention Tactic: "Keyword Cloaking"

This tactic, which is unrelated to link cloaking, is actually more of a security measure and something I occasionally use to prevent my visitors who may have similar websites to my own from targeting my keywords. The way you "cloak" your keywords is simple: use another keyword and maintain a similar keyword density as the primary keyword. This helps prevent people who use tools such as SEOCentro from discovering your keyword density.

Tip: While anyone could still figure out what keywords you're ranking for (especially if they found your website through a Google search), making it slightly more complicated for someone who is just looking to copy the keywords you're using to find out which keywords you're ranking for may be enough to deter them, especially if they're doing this in bulk (this is similar to adding an extra obstacle such as a brick wall to deter petty would-be robbers from your house).

Conclusion

The whole point of this guide is strategy; getting many different pages to rank for many different low competition keywords until your site start's gaining enough traction to be able to compete for the medium competition keywords (and so on and so forth)

The great thing about this method is that you'll naturally procure backlinks for your pages, so you won't have to worry about building the links yourself. Additionally, don't feel discouraged if your articles do not rank well at first for what you thought were easy keywords. This has happened to me on several occasions and once I go back and re-optimise the article for a different keyword, this usually corrects the issue.

6 Tips to Increase Your Website Traffic

Ok guys, I wanted to dive into something that we are all after when it comes to SEO... TRAFFIC. That is why people buy SEO services and that is why the BHW marketplace is active around the clock. Everyone is after traffic.. website visitors is what makes the IM world turn, without them we would all be dead broke and probably bagging groceries.

I sell a lot of SEO service on the forum but I also have my own sites and projects that I work on away from my services. There are so many different ways to get traffic to your website but we all get wrapped up with top Google rankings.. you can get traffic even if you are not #1 on Google for your main keyword.

These are 6 ways I get website traffic for a variety of sites I monetize personally. After you read this I ask you to post one of your tips for increasing traffic, let's turn this thread into a pot of gold to help each other and newbies to the forum. There is so much guru BS out there so lets start some intelligent discussions we can all build on.

1) Target your page 2-3 organic rankings

Page 2 - 3 is useless for traffic forget about it! Nobody looks through those pages, If you are on those pages you might as well be on page 74 and page 469. But did you know you can usually give your internal pages that are ranking on page two and three a quick boost just by playing with your internal linking?

Use Google Analytics, webmaster tools and semrush to identify the terms and pages that are on page two and three. Write them all down.. Organization is key here... after you find potential targets you need to find pages on your site that have some good juice to toss at those pages.

You can use open site explorer and look at the DA and PA.. imo they are crap metrics that can be easily rigged but when you are dealing with your own site they should give you a good idea of what pages are solid.. well as long as you aren't spamming your own site! You can do this in 2 seconds by entering your main URL in OSE and then look at the top pages tab.

Once you have identified your strongest pages drop some links on those pages to your pages that are sitting on Google page 2 and 3.. this works good for long tail keywords that need just a little nudge. Smart internal linking is something 99% of people forget to do and it makes zero sense as there are a lot of missed opportunities here. Take small steps and don't just drop a shit load of internal links to a single page at once, make small changes and see how the SERPS react - it's all about that testing and optimizing guys.

2) Use PPC copy from top companies in your page descriptions

Page descriptions don't mean shit for SEO! You could include your keyword in them but it isn't going to help your rankings. A lot of people will say to include the keyword in the description anyway to help with the click through because the person is likely to click on the page if they see the same keyword they just searched for.

It makes sense but if you look at some descriptions they just look so awkward with the keyword slapped in there.. Nobody is going to be impressed and want to click on some bullshit just because it includes a keyword.. I get all my description copy ideas from people that are spending crazy money testing ads... PPC advertisers!

I will do a Google search related to the topic of the page I am writing a description for and look at the top PPC ads. Keep in mind here these advertisers are spending heaps of money split testing copy and they aren't just pulling random lines of copy out of their ass! They value their money too much to do that.. so I look at the best ads and get my description copy there. PPC ads on top are spending the most and have the best click through so it is a good source of copy that attracts people to make them want to click.

Try it... A lot of people have good rankings but their descriptions suck so bad nobody clicks on their page - Top ranks are worthless unless they entice people to click on them.

3) Make list posts that feature sites you want links and traffic from

This is easy to do for any niche... Make a list of the best websites that you want to try to get links on because of referral traffic and not SEO, I call this making bullshit ass kissing posts.. This can be done in any niche.

Example: if you have a website that features funny pictures of dogs make a list of all the top sites you would kill to get a link from and that has visitors you would love to have check out your website.. Now create a blog post that has a very broad topic so you can include every site you are interested in - "15 Blogs All Dog Lovers Need to Read Daily" there ya go.. Simple as that!

Make sure you link out to each one (and don't no-follow them) - seriously, so many people are worried about losing link juice.. Guess what? No-following all your outbound links or even not linking out makes you look suspicious! The name of the SEO game is looking natural.. Do the biggest sites in the world link out? Yes.. Do they no-follow everything? No.

Create a good blog post, don't hire a "native" to shit out a $5 article you will just be wasting your time.. spend $$ and get a great blog post that will impress everyone you include in it.

Once you publish it contact all of the websites you included in your list.. Email them.. Use the contact form on their site.. Tweet them.. Facebook them.. Don't worry about bothering them! They won't see it as you pestering them once they discover that you are doing it to let them know that you featured them. Think about it for a minute.. they are after links and exposure just like you are so by giving them a link they are going to feel like they have to return the favor. They will often write a blog post telling their readers that they were featured and named as a blog to read.. Stroke their ego and get a link and mention. It is a niche related link and can push traffic to your site also.

4) Sponsor an Infographic

This is one of the easiest ways to get a link on any site in your niche that you want. Infographics are the shit and every website owner loves them! What they don't like is the cost associated with getting them done.. in the offline world companies pay $2k+ for infographics. You can use this to work your way onto any site in your niche..

Reach out and offer to sponsor an infographic. Tell them you will handle everything from the concept to the design. You will need to put out some effort and spend about $150.. here is how you can do this:

Find a site you want a referral link form - Target the best of the best.. email them and tell them you are creating an infographic and would be happy to co-brand it. This means you will include your logo and website address along with theirs on it. You have to have this step figured out before you move on.. you need to get a verbal agreement and make sure they are on board before you move forward.

There isn't a site that will pass up a branded infographic. Now a lot of people will create infographics and send them to any site they can find in hopes they publish them. The market is flooded with infographics and website owners don't want to publish the same infographic that 100 other sites are! If you are offering to brand it in their name they know it is more exclusive and if other sites pick it up they might even get links out of it.

Once you have a site on the hook find a good topic to create an infographic on., the easiest way to do this is to find a very popular blog post to take the date from. I will put in popular blogs related to the niche I am targeting into open site explorer and click on the top pages tab to see what posts have the most links pointing to them., blog posts with a lot of links tend to mean it's a hot topic and the people looking for info in the niche liked it! I will look for list type posts that I can hand over to a designer and have turned into an infographic.. I don't have time to research content for hours and I want this as hands free as possible. I will find a good popular blog post that I can see being turned into an infographic and well received.

There are plenty of designers here on BHW that will do an infographic for $100 - $150 and then you have freelancer and odesk to source additional talent. I tend to stick to BHW designers because freelancer and odesk is mostly full of crap. Look at recent reviews on BHW and test a couple guys. The great thing about just handing over a list style blog post is the hard part (the content) is already done.

Once the design is done (make sure it is branded to look good - take it a step further and have the designer create it using the colors of the site you are doing it for) reach out and get it into the website owners hand.. I have never had to ask for a link and you don't want to sound overly desperate saying something stupid like "don't forget to link to me man" - it should just happen and don't look for a spammy anchor text.. you can get naked url and brand links this way but if you think you are going to get a "infographic provided by buy garcinia cambogia online" you might as well not do this. The link is good because it will be niche related but if you create a good infographic the referral traffic will be your gold.

5) Sign up for every single newsletter in your niche

Getting links on top sites in your niche isn't hard if you just approach it differently than the other sheeple.. everyone else is sending out copy and paste messages that all say the same crap. They offer a 500 word unique article and ask for a link.. forget that noise. No serious website owner is going to respond or welcome that offer and if a site does it isn't one you want a link from anyway.

Most websites have a newsletter or some list you can subscribe to.. sign up for every single one you can find! You are going to get a shit ton of emails so set up a separate email address but make sure you keep it on your domain.. so if you use info@yoursite as your mail email set something like hello@yoursite for this.. DO NOT do some stupid shit like spam@ or newsletter@ - any smart website owner will sniff this out and know what you are up to.

Every time you get a new newsletter read through it in 3 seconds and reply to it and compliment some point.. "That was great - I totally agree about (whatever) because (your point)" - and also start to tweet out blog posts from the site., they will start to see that you are replying to their newsletters (nobody does this) and sharing their stuff on social media.. this is building a relationship.

After you do this for a few weeks include a pitch in one of your replies to their newsletter.. "I was actually just writing a blog post about (the topic you are replying about) and wanted to know if you would like to publish it on your website?"

This is such a casual guest post request.. It isn't annoying or spammy like 99% of the other ones.. It will stand out and they will identify you as the person that has been communicating with them and promoting their content!

Approach this like you would a girl you want to marry and not just sleep with.. You have to wine and dine and put in some effort. You aren't going right to the bedroom. If a girl drops her pants right away she is dirty!.. just like a blog is dirty if they let anyone guest post! But the effort is worth it when you land that post and get a niche link that will kick back referral traffic and give you a SEO boost.

6) Publish one blog post daily that targets a low search volume long tail keyword

Everyone is on the long tail keyword bandwagon these days but most will skip over a keyword that has a low search volume of 20 searches.. they think it isn't worth going after but I will tell you it is! The key is to target one every single day.. most people skip them over so the competition is low.. you can often rank with just good on site optimization - low laying fruit, shit fruit laying on the ground ready to pick up.

I make sure the long tail is used in the title, in the first part of the content and a couple more times in the content. IMG ALT tag and H2 tag to round it off.. since you are going this daily make sure to interlink correctly.

Being consistent comes into play after some time.. But imagine if you targeted a kw daily that "only" has a monthly search volume of 20.. After 1 year you would be targeting about 260 keywords if you did it Mon - Fri every week.. 20 x 260 = 5,200 VERY TARGETED searches a month.. If your on site optimization is up to scratch done properly you will be ranking on top for all of these.

This type of traffic will do better than more general keywords because these very low volume long tails are extremely targetted! When you think of the big picture this is such an easy thing to take action on.. If you can't afford to outsource the article daily just write it first thing in the morning.. get up 15 min early to get it done.. Just do it! This is such an easy way to increase your traffic but not with just any traffic.. this is very targeted. Once you start to make money increase to 3-5 of these low search volume long tails. Most people just see the big search volume and don't want to put the effort into the low volume stuff.. I'll clean house with that stuff all day long.

Remember all of these can be scaled up with some employees then you can really get cooking.. but as always don't half ass those employees!

Guide Building Your Firs Site - Part 3: Building Your Site With Silo Structure

Organising your data
By now you should have a lot of data collected from the first two parts of this guide. Its a great idea to get all of this information well organised before you start building your website.

I think there might be tools for organising this sort of information but I always come back to the simple text files and excel files.
A good tip here is to use a service such as Dropbox in conjunction with flat file storage so taht all of your data is a) always backed up and b) accessible from wherever you are.

I typically have a folder for my website and then inside that folder have some text files detailing domain information, login details, notes on the competition and then a spreadsheet with the keywords and the proposed site structure.

The above is an example of the intended site structure and it uses the same example of coffee machines niche - I have listed the keyword and then the search volume next to it. I have also laid the terms out in order of relevance to each other and this is basically what forms our silo structure.

This structure is useful for several reasons -

1.It makes the site easy to navigate and relevant to the user - for example if someone lands on the page "filter coffee machines" then they will quite probably be interested in the two sub articles -
filter coffee machines with steamer and filter coffee machines for your home - so the structure is adding value for the reader.

2.It adds re-enforces the relevance of each page because you are doing exactly what you would do when you build offsite backlinks - you are linking from a page that is about a particular topic, to another page that is about the same or similar topic so just like a contextual backlink about coffee is going to be valuable for your site so will a contextual backlink on your own site about filter coffee machines be valuable for your page about filter coffee machines for your home.

3.Aside from the relevance between pages, a good site structure means that when you build backlinks to your site - to your homepage for example - the "link juice" will flow throughout your site effectively.

Interestingly Google talk about this a little bit on their adwords platforms and they advise that adwords is laid out inline with the structure of your website and they also talk about having that structure in an order similar to a silo structure - this is just a random observation but it reafirms the importance of a silo structure.

Building your website

I wasn't going to go into detail about the physical building of the website but I guess I might as well seeing as its relevant.
So the first thing you would need if you dont already have it is a website host - this may or may not be the same as your domain registrar but personally I would recommend keeping them seperate - IF your host ever goes down for any reason then its much easier to repoint your DNS from your registrar than it is to have to transfer your entire domain.

For registrars I recommend Godaddy - in my opinion they are the best - fast, cheap and reliable.

For hosting I recommend any of these comanies (All of which I have had great experience with):

siteground
hostgator
tsohost
nimbus hosting
a2 hosting

I beleive that all of these providers offer backups of some description and I would highly recommend that you avail of that backup service whichever provider you choose - there are loads of things that can happen to your site that will cause it to fail and having a backup in place when that happens will save you so much stress, time and money.

Once you have set up your hosting then just change your domains nameservers to those specified by your hosting provider.

Nameserver changes are always advertised as taking 24-48 hours but in reality should propogate within a few hours. You can check that your nameservers have updated here:

Installing wordpress

The next step is to install wordpress. Once again, i think that all of the providers above come with CPANEL and also offer "one click installation" of wordpress. if that is the case all you need to do is log in to your cpanel account and look for softilicious / one click installer / wordpress and follow the instructions. The only thing to look out for is that the installer is putting it in the root of your domain - sometimes by default the installer will have a sub-directory such as "wp" already listed just remove that and leave the sub directory empty.

Manual Install

Just in case anyone out there needs to do a manual installation of Wordpress - this might be the case if you have a hosting provider that doesnt use cpanel for example. Here is the guide (Via FTP, if you have Shell access its even easier but I wont go into that):

Set up an sql database - if you have cpanel but dont have access to auto installer then you can log in to cpanel and use the Mysql database wizard. If you use another provider just ask them for instructions on setting up a mysql database.

download wordpress from here -

Extract it using 7z or other compression software and then upload it to the root of your website hosting - you want everything inside of the wordpress folder, so your website root should have the wp-content folder, wp-admin folder etc and not a wordpress folder.

Once you have the files uploaded simply browse to your website and you will be prompted with the wordpress install wizard where you can enter your mysql database details and follow the remaining prompts to create your wordpress install.

Configuring wordpress

Once you have installed wordpress you can visit the admin area by browsing to yoursite.com/wp-admin and logging in with the credentials provided to you during the installation.

The first thing I do is remove any default content - this is normally a sample page and a few sample posts.

Configuring your theme
the next thing is to add a theme. If you brose to appearance / themes then you can find plenty of decent (and free) themes available. These will definitely do, but if you have the budget I would recommend a premium theme and the best place for those, in my opinion, is theme forest.

Once you have your theme installed you want some plugins as well, as follows:

contact form 7 - for creating your contact forms
wordfence security - for keeping hackers away
W3 total cache - to keep your site running fast
WP social sharing
Yoast SEO
visual composer - when looking at themes I would always advise that you look for ones that have visual composer included with them because it makes designing a visually appealing site effortless.

Configuring permalinks
You want nice URLs for your pages and posts - this is very important with your silo structure and with SEO in general because it means you can easily have your keywords appearing in your URLs.
Check in settings / permalinks and make sure you have the option "post name" ticked.

Setting up your SILO structure
There are lots of ways of doing this, and there are plugins that will do it for you, but this is the way I do it - it involves some manual labour but it also keeps everything looking natural and not too regimented.

I have a page targeting each keyword in my list and I structure those pages according to my site layout - for example:

coffee machines - this is my homepage
pod coffee machines - this page is a sub page of coffee machines
the top 5 pod coffee machines - this is a sub page of pod coffee machines

On the homepage I will link out to all of the second level pages.

On the second level pages I will link out to all of the third level pages.

and so on.

YOu can do this from the sidebar in this format:

Back to [previous page in hierachy]

Further information:

This way you end up with a structure that matches exactly the site plan we created previously, further more we have each topic linking directly to and from nested (and related) topics and we don't have any links between unrelated topics - this is the simplest form of silo structure and it keeps all the links on the site very relevant to each other and allows link juice to filter down accordingly.

Cross linking between silos

To further enhance this structure you can also cross link between pages that are on the same level in the structure and relevent to each other.

You can do this systematically by linking to the previous page and the next page in the same level of the silo structure; for example as per the site layout that I listed above filter coffee machines with steamer could also link to filter coffee machines for your home because they are on the same level - I would add these links again in the sidebar and under the heading related content. This makes more sense if you have 5 pages in your third level and each page links to its "neighbours".

You can also do it randomly and on each page just have two links out to the most related pages on the same level and in teh same branch of your structure.

Further more, you can link to these related pages and the child pages from within the content of the page - for example, on the filter coffee machines page you might talk about coffee machines with steamers within the content of that page - this would be the ideal opportunity to link to your filter coffee machines with steamer page.

Specifically how to set this up

I create all of my content as pages, I keep a very basic site menu that has just homepage, about us, contact pages and so on, and then I use a page template that has a sidebar built in that I can use on each page to link to the parent, the sub-pages and the select related content.

What you should end up with is a structure where you are forced to browse down through topics that gradually go into more specific detail about the exact same subject OR browse across to very closely related subjects.

How to automate this

Rather than setting this up manually you can automate most of it by using the built in sidebar system that comes with wordpress and some plugins and/or custom code.

Guide Building Your Firs Site - Part 2: Keyword Research For A Niche

Keyword research: introduction
I think keyword research is probably the most important thing to consider when it comes to building a website and heres why:

a) At the most basic level (And this is especially relevant if you are new to SEO) you need to know whether there is any demand out there for whatever it is your website is going to be about.
For example, you might be super passionate about stamp collecting and think to yourself you can make the most amazing website ever, you can produce tonnes of content etc etc.

But, there may not be a demand, people may not be searching for that topic and further more, even if they are there might not be any adwords competition for that niche - in other words, no advertisers makes it very hard for you to monetise and also is a good indicator that everyone else also finds that niche hard to monetise.

A good example of this occured some time back when my friend created a website in a particular niche without doing keyword research, he came up with a great system for scraping content, making it unique and then posting it on his site. He got tonnes of traffic, but the advertiser competition was so low that it barely made any money at all.

b) The second reason why keyword research is so important is so that you know whether or not you can rank in a particular niche - for example you might be really interested in technology, you might already know that there are loads of searches relating to technology on Google, so you pick a small niche within tech, you build your site and start firing out content only to discover 3 months down the line that every keyword you are targeting is domincated by the tech giants and you don't have a chance in hell of ranking for any of them.

c) Preparation is the key at this stage - the research you do now will help you to lay down the foundations for your site, it will give you an idea of where its possible to take the site and it will allow you to plan everything else based on the research you do now. If you dive in to your site design and start writing content without doing the research first you are likely to end up hitting a dead end and then backtracking to try and work out what you should actually be focusing on, how you should be structuring your site, where the site is likely to excel and so on.

These reasons make keyword research super important and so its another part of your website creation journey that you should really focus on.

Getting started with keyword research

So you have your niche now - the one you picked in the first part of this gude. Lets say that your niche is coffee machines.

Finding related terms
The first thing I do is search for that broad term on Google, look at the first 5-10 sites and just grab some related keywords from those sites - the number of keywords that you need and how closely related they are to your "Seed keyword" will depend on whether you are building a micro niche site (where you want a few closely related keywords) or an authority site (Where you really want to branch out and cover all aspects of your chosen niche).

Looking at search volume in Google keyword planner
The next thing to do is chuck those keywords into Google keyword planner and use the option to generate new keyword ideas.

With this you should get a big list of keywords that are related to your seed keywords.
Download this list into Excel and set up some filters the same way that you did in the first guide.

The next thing to do is hide everything outside of some set parimiters - lets say that you go for anything between 500-5000 monthly searches.

Within the list that you are left with take out the terms that have the following metrics:

a. Advertiser competition - a higher number (1 being the max) shows that lots of people are advertising for the term and that if you have adsense on your site and it gets clicked, you will make money:)

b.Terms closely related to your niche and those that you consider relevant.

c.Not too broad - you don't really want "coffee" or even "Coffee machines" because there will likely be millions of sites ranking for these terms already and they are very hard to dominate because they are so broad.

Once you have picked out the best terms put them into order in Excel - I organise keywords into groups that are most relevant to each other - this grouping will help you later on when you are building out your site - especially if you are building a silo structure.

With each of these terms its then time to start looking at the current competition - put each term one by one into Google and look at the top ten results, you should be looking for the following:

1.Are there authority sites (You need to also start learning the authority sites that dominate your niche) - these are hard to beat because they tend to be well establihsed sites with high DA and will be hard to outrank.

2.Are there well known sites like wikipedia, ebay, Amazon- again these sites can be hard to outrank.

3.Are there any niche sites - in other words smaller sites that are unknown within the niche and perhaps look similar to what you have in mind for your site - these sites should be beatable in theory and also tell you that the niche is possible to rank in.

4.What are the metrics of the websites currently ranking in the top ten? For this you can look at PA/DA, whether they are optimized for the keyword, how many backlinks they have etc. The ideal tools for this part are Moz.com, ahrefs.com and majestic.com but if you dont have paid accounts with these providers you can get plugins for chrome / firefox that will mostly do the job.

Weed out the high competition keywords
Put the keywords in order of how difficult they are, how competative the top ten is and so on then remove the highly competative ones (The ones where the top ten are dominated by authority sites, for example). Then you are left with a smaller list of what should be lucrative terms with high search volume but with low(er) competition.

Remember these are really your top level terms and the ones you ideally want to rank for, but you are going to further drill down and get some very easy to rank for terms as well so don't worry if these seem daunting.

Look at the intent for each keyword that you have left
Intent is important - it dictates whether a searcher is looking for information, an answer to a specific question or to directly buy a product - this intent will determine how much money you are likely to make from a search term as well as telling you what sort of information you need to present in order to rank.

For example if you have a term "where to buy coffee machine XYZ" then you can assume the intent is to buy and thus its likely to be a lucrative term. However, if you put up a 1200 word article about this term then you probably wont get very far because the searcher is going to be looking for a buy button or links to several products that they can buy.

Looking at the top 3-4 results for each term will quickly give you clues on the intent of searchers and will show you what sort of content you need in order to compete.

Take note of your competition
As you are doing this research it is important to take notice of the competition as well - actually its VERY important. When I am doing keyword research I gradually build up a list of the competition in its entirety - I make a note of all the authorative sites in the niche as well as all of the niche sites and any other competition that I see along with notes about what they are doing, how good they look how strong a competitor I think they are, what sort of content they are producing and so on. This information helps you to do the keyword research well, it helps you to understand what the audience is looking for in terms of content and it will also give you a nice list to steal a lot of information from :)

Drill down with longtail keywords
The next step once you have your initial list of lucrative keywords for your niche is to drill down and find longtail variations on those keywords - this is where you tend to find keywords that are easier to rank, even if they are lower in search volume.

With each keyword that you have in your first list put it into keyword shitter, this will give you a big list of variations on your keyword.

You can also add additional variations depending on your niche - so you might add in where to buy coffee machines, what is the best coffee machine, coffee machine reviews, coffee machines to fit in small kitchen. etc etc.

When you have this new list of longtail variations, put each one into the Google keyword planner in order to get an idea of search volume and also to discover additional related longtail terms.
I produce a seperate spreadsheet for each term at this stage and then look for the best terms within that spreadsheet.

Now you should be looking for longer terms that still have a good advertiser competition but that have a lower search volume (This is not a requirement of course but these tend to be the terms that have less people trying to rank for and thus are easier for you to rank for).
As you find relevant longtail terms check the competition for each one by looking at the top ten results and add them to your master list in order of relevance.

By the end of this stage you should have a list like this:

instant coffee machines
-instant coffee machine reviews
-instant coffee machines under $100
-instant coffee machines with steam addon
nespresso coffee machines
-secondhand nespresso coffee machines
-how to use nespresso coffee machines
-nespresso coffee machines with two cup holders

This could be a very large list or a small list, depending on the size of the site that you are trying to create.

You can also repeat the process depending on how many levels deep you want to go.

Getting this list refined now is great because it gives you a full structure to work with and it means you will not run out of content to write for your site a few weeks or months down the line. It also shows you what you are working with and how best to structure your site from the beginning so that it wont outgrow itself.

Finally it should also put things into perspective - if you started of with a niche like technology for example, then you will probably realise by now that you picked a niche that was too big and you just have keywords and LSIs coming out of your ears - go back and pick a smaller niche where you can finish this part of the guide within a few hours and not a few years.

Check out what your competitors are ranking for

Now that you know who your competitors are never leave them alone - ever. You should be looking at everything they are doing, how they are ranking, how they are building their sites, what content they are posting, where they are posting links / comments / social posts etc.

The goal is not to copy them but rather to look at all the best parts of their strategies and then do it better for your own site.

This starts with keyword research - using a tool like ahrefs you can search for all of the organic keywords that your competitors are ranking for - you can grab this entire list and go through the same process as you did above - look at search volume, look at the top ten competitors, look at the intent of the seacher etc.

From the list of keywords that your competitors are ranking for pick out the most lucrative and low competition terms and slot them into your list in the appropriate place.

the best part about this is that you can instantly gauge how competative these terms are by the type of site that is ranking for them - for example if you pinpointed a particular competitor that has a new site, it looks like its been built from home etc, on page isn't great, BUT they are ranking for a couple of terms that get a fair amount of searches per month - BINGO they are terms you should definitely be going after youself - add them to the list.

Moving on
At this stage you should have a nice big list of keywords that is structured in such a way that everything is sectioned out into specific areas.

This keeps things organised, it lets you know how to structure your website in terms of categories, sub-pages, related content etc and also it will help you to put together a silo structure later on so that every page on your site enhances those that it links to and vice versa.

Guide Building Your Firs Site - Part 1: Picking Your Niche

I have been thinking about doing this for a while - a guide from start to finish on how to put together your own website - this could be relevant to a niche site or an authority site, it doesn't matter. Ijgoing to comprise everything I have learnt in the time that I have been doing SEO/IM.

This guide is aimed at beginners and to some people it may seem like really basic stuff but the aim is to make a guide thats really easy to follow and for anyone that really wants to get stuck in with IM and specifically wants to start and rank their own site, that's who this is for.

The guide is going to be focused on whitehat techniques for the most part because thats really where my background is and although I have tried lots of blackhat techniques since I have been a member here at blackhatworld I have eventually come full circle and settled back on whitehat, but with the knowledge of blackhat under the bonnet :)

Part 1: Picking your niche
In my experience this is really important because it is like the foundation of your entire project so it is something you really should take your time with. Some people would just refer to this stage as keyword research but I am proposing that you take a step backwards from there and just think purely about your niche.

This is perhaps more applicable if you are really into whitehat rather than blackhat and the reason is this - if you are whitehat then you are avoiding the most "dangerous" techniques when it comes to SEO and the chances are that you will be planning on making your website last for some time (As apposed to churn and burn for example where you are just looking for short life maximum return).

Because you are planning on your site lasting you really need a niche that you can get behind. I have lost count of the times that I have done a little research and started a site only to get bored with it 3 months down the line and just lose interest completely. Or even worse get 3 months down the line and just totally run out of things to write about.

In addition to actually being able to focus on and write about a topic you also need to have enthusiasm for your niche - once again I have often started a niche site on a topic that I have absolutely no interest in what so ever, purely because it was low competition, and for me that really didn't work either - its another thing that I used to think about IM, especially after joining blackhatworld, was that you could just chuck up any old crap site about a niche topic, build a few backlinks and rank #1 in no time - this was a really big misconception and I dont think there are many people here at all that do that: I think any successful site whether its an authority site or a micro niche site has to have some effort behind it - it really has to add value for the intended visitors because at some point in time its going to hit the top 3 in google and if visitors find that the site is crap they are going to bounce straight off the site and on to the next result.

So for this reason you have to really find a niche that you can get behind, one that you are interested in, one that you are passionate about and one that you can be involved with for some time.

Think about the competition within your niche

This is really important as well - when you are thinking about a niche, think about how much competition there is likely to be and how saturated that niche is. Compare this to the type of site you want to build and the area you are going to cover.
For example, with me I always vered towards the technology niche because that is where my background lies. My lesson learned here though was that tech is super saturated - and thats not neccesarily a problem if you want to do a really hyper-targeted niche site about one very small area of tech because you have the opportunity to add value there and also to find an area with very low competition, but anything else in tech I just find is very hard.

So based on that I started to branch out the possible topics that I could be interested in and I would advise you to do the same - don't go for the obvious and saturated niches but try to think outside of the box and find something that is slightly less saturated.

Think realistically about the size of your site and the niche you are going to target

Maybe not everyone faces this issue but I definitely did - whenever I was trying to build a site I would always have some grand idea about making a humungous site about a miassive range of topics within a niche - but the reality is that its not practicle to do that and actually its much better to think realistically about the size of website that you plan to build, your budget for link building within that niche and also the timescale for your project.

Brainstorming
When you are ready to get down to work, the first thing to do is start brain storming ideas - this is how I start when I am picking a new niche - I just list down in notepad a few ideas - things that I am interested in, things I have seen recently in the news, hobbies and so on. As you start writing each idea should put something else in your mind. Rather than actively trying to think of "niches" just jot down everything that comes in to your head, one line at a time.

Getting some data from Google
When you have a list of perhaps 10 ideas, head over to Google keyword planner and put those ideas into the tool - use the option that says "generate new keyword ideas", put your keywords in to the search box, change the location ro suit wherever you are targeting and then click "get ideas".

At this stage you will be presented with pages and pages of keywords - just look for the download button over to the top right of the list of keywords. This allows you to download a CSV file of all these keywords - which will be various combinations of the "seed" keywords that you entered at the beginning of the search.

Once you have downloaded teh CSV file you can open it in excel, select all of the columns and click on "Data" and then "Filter". This will give you a nicely formated list where you can filter the results on certain criteria.
Dont pay too much attention to search volume for now, just focus on the keywords - you should have 700 - 800 keywords to look through and hopefully you can find a niche that interests you in there - the bigger the search volume the better of course because that is an indicator that the niche is worth persuing.

At this stage its a good idea to pick 5 - 10 niche ideas from the list and these can be assessed in more detail to see if they are worth going after.

Once you have a few ideas, put those keywords in to Google and just look at the competition - see who is coming up top, see what types of results there are and think about the type of site you wll need to focus on that niche. Some niches are dominated by ecommerce sites, some niches are all about content, information and research and others are about definable things like codes, coupons, tutorials etc. When picking your niche you really need to be sure that you can provide the information that is required within that niche.

As said previously, you also need to settle on a niche that you feel passionate about - one that you can think of loads of stuff to write about and one that you are genuinely interested in - this will really help further down the line when you are building out your site - not only to keep you interested but also to give you a decent idea of what the niche calls for, what people want when they seach for your terms and what constitutes good content within that niche.
