I took a couple of videos of the final round:

FIS World Cup

Janne Korpi of Finland absolutely smashed the event. Every jump he made was awesome… the height he got was incredible and the snowboard tricks he was landing put most of the other riders to shame (imo).

Already looking forward to next year

So here’s the thing – I love all the adrenaline stuff… I am, however, not at all sporty! Most things that require any excess use of energy are usually not my style.

Now from what I can gather, snowboarding requires a certain level of fitness and stamina – neither of which I posses – but it just looks so damn cool!

I recently got invited to go snowboarding next year and am in two minds: On one hand I know I’d probably have a lot of fun, on the other hand I can’t help but feel that I’ll end up being totally crap, and not even slightly resemble any of the cool snowboarders I’ve seen, pulling off amazing snowboard tricks who have inspired me to want to try it in the first place.

Videos like this showing how cool all these Snowboard Tricks are, are not helping – yes I’d love to be able to do all that but if I can’t… why am I bothering?!

Cynical much? I hear you say! Well yes actually. It’s less about being cynical though and more about being practical. I know myself well enough to know that I don’t take instruction well… it takes me a long time (longer than most) to pick things up and it would certainly take me longer than one trip to be able to even snowboard down a hill without falling over.

I imagine it’ll end up being much like my first (and probably last) attempt at surfing- for years I imagined jumping up on the board… being a natural and riding those waves all day long, but that wasn’t the case and I feel snowboarding will be as, if not more difficult to master.

Snowboard Trick

I’ll still ponder my decision – to go or not to go – until the last minute probably, but if anyone out there is a recent newbie snowboarder and has any tips or advice I’d be much obliged if you could share

I was recently in Australia for the tail end of the summer and decided it would be the perfect time and place for me to finally learn to surf. I’ve spent many years thinking about it and admiring the pros (think Alana Blanchard, Stephanie Gilmore, Anastasia Ashley to name but a few) who are ripping the break apart and thinking to myself ‘I could do that!’.

Byron Bay

So here I was, in Byron Bay – possibly the best location in the world for surfing – and i’m finally ready to get out there and get my feet wet (pardon the pun). We start the lesson off by having a quick induction into rip tides and wave types… when I say quick I mean quick: He is literally saying to you ‘knowing this might save your life (in the usual laid-back Aussie accent)’ and then proceeds to whizz through these ‘life saving’ instructions at the speed of light and my head is spinning. He assures us that although we do need to know this stuff, he is there to make sure nothing happens to us today so not to worry too much (phew) and then he progresses to practising standing up on the board.

Alana Blanchard Surfing

While laying flat on the board he tells us all to pop up on the board and lead with the most comfortable foot – I am right handed and I instinctively put my right foot forward, which apparently means I’m ‘Goofy’ (no surprises there then). We literally did this twice, neither time did I actually manage to end up where I was supposed to on the board, the next thing I know he’s shouting ‘Let’s Go Gang’ and everyone picks up their surf boards and trots on down to the waters edge.

To say I found it difficult would be an understatement of epic proportions… It was nigh on, frickin’ impossible! The waves were absolutely huage, the wind was raging, the board was the heaviest thing I’d ever had to carry (due to various holes along the board it kept filling up with water, making it heavier and heavier every second) and my knees were getting ripped to shreds on the board due to my wetsuit stopping just above the knees.

Stephanie Gilmore Surfing

I spent around 3 hours altogether: getting wiped out, scraping the skin off of my knees, being thwacked around the chops with my board and getting caught up in other peoples leashes (stupid bloody Finnish dude) before I literally fell over in the water and couldn’t get back up. As if that weren’ty embarresing enough, I then start getting ‘helped’ by our instructor… So dead set was he that I at least manage to ride one little wave while standing up, he decides it’s a good idea to literally stand me up on the board – holding onto my ankle with one hand and my board with the other – then shove me away into a wave. We did this 3 times, every time I fell (quite ungracefully, I might add) straight into the water as soon as he let me go. Pathetic.

Anastasia Ashley Surfing

I left that day, having to carry this ridiculously heavy, water-filled surf board on my head, and was due to go back the following day for lesson 2…

You’re probably now looking down and realising you’re nearly at the end of my post – this is not because nothing of interest happened on my second day – it may well have done – I just wasn’t there! Yes that’s right, I decided I had better ways of spending my time than being injured any further by errant surf boards / waves / leashes / Finnish people, so I gave up and went to Nimbin for the day instead (if you don’t know where that is – Google it )

So yes, all in all I’d say surfing wasn’t for me, although I think if I’d have tried it somewhere else – somewhere a little less rough – I would have enjoyed it much more so am not ruling out giving it another go, but I think I’ll try some other stuff first like snowboarding!

As you know I have been bungee jumping twice. It really gave me the bug and I’m definitely going to do it again. I do want to try and do one a little bit higher this time – e jumps were both 160ft and I think I’m ready to step it up a notch.

Although these 5 jumps are maybe a little ambitious for my third jump, I certainly hope that sometime in the not too distant future I get to have a go of at least one of them….

5. Europabrücke Bridge, Austria – 630 feet (192 m)

This one would probably be the first one I’d try…. being as it’s the smallest of the top 5.

Standing 630 feet (192 m) high, and supporting the Brenner Autobahn that links Austria and Italy across the Alps, the Europabrücke Bridge was Europe’s highest from 1963 until it was topped out by France’s Millau Viaduct in 2004

4. Bloukrans Bridge, South Africa – 708 feet (216 m)

The world’s highest single span arch bridge, the Bloukrans Bridge towers 708 feet (216 m) above the river of the same name. Primarily a road bridge, the Bloukrans also hosts a beast of a bungee jump – the highest commercially operated on earth for years after it was opened in 1997. With its pendulum system, apparently you get “the smoothest, most comfortable bungee jump possible”.

3. Verzasca Dam, Switzerland – 720 feet (220 m)
The Verzasca hydroelectric dam, completed in 1965, soars 720 feet (220 m) above Lago di Vogorno, the reservoir it forms. Oh, and its apex is also the site of a heart-stopping commercial bungee jump.

It was also featured in the opening sequence of the Bond movie Goldeneye, with 007 hurtling himself off (It was named in the movie as a bridge in Russia but it was definitely this one )

2. Macau Tower, China – 760 feet (233 m)

Measuring 1,109 feet (338 m) from tip to toe, the Macau Tower was completed in 2001. In 2006, bungee jumping guru A J Hackett launched what the Guinness Book of Records recognised as the highest commercial bungee jump in the world.

1. Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado, USA – 1,053 feet (321 m)

Although at the moment this bungee jump was only available in the Go Fast Games of 2005 and 2007 everyone is hoping that soon it will be opened up to the public. An attraction since 1929, the Royal Gorge Bridge hangs 1,053 feet (321 m) aloft and is billed as the highest suspension bridge in the world.

Knowing that love this type of thing, my Husband bought me a gift experience voucher for Christmas. The voucher included lots of different activities out of which I could choose one that I liked.

There were several things to choose from… Bungee jumping, Sphering/Zorbing etc. The one I eventually chose was Circus Skills.

Right now you’re probably wondering WHY I chose that… My Husband certainly did! I just really loved the idea of being a flying trapeze artist… swinging around upside-down and being flung around etc.

When I saw that the event consisted of not only flying trapeze but also tight-wire walking I got pretty excited. There was also juggling and acrobatic balancing which I thought could be quite fun.

I set out on a freezing December morning on my way to The Circus Space in North London, I nearly didn’t make it in time…. I got lost, as per usual :-S

Anyway I got there just in time to get changed and head into the hall. Here was my first disappointment: Maybe I was being a little naive about what to expect but somehow I visualised something a little larger than an undersized school gym (which is pretty much what it looked like in there).

It became apparent that nearly everyone there was in a big group, except for me and an older guy who was being watched by his kids. OK so maybe not many people out there would go and do something like this on their own but I really did think it would be cool, plus I couldn’t convince anyone else to go with me

We did some laps to warm up followed by some stretches, then we were put into four groups. I ended up with the other guy on his own and a stag party of young guys – the stag was actually dressed in pink and blue Lycra complete with pink tutu which, for the first 5 minutes at least was very amusing.

We started out with juggling: OMG I was actually knackered after 30 minutes of doing it! I knew I wasn’t that fit but bloody hell! Even still I’d made good progress and by the end was actually keeping my balls up (yeah OK, I know!)

After that we moved over to the flying trapeze…. now, this was really what I went for and I couldn’t have been more let down. There were 10 of us and only 30 minutes so you can work out how much time we each got to spend on it!

Not only that but it was tiny… about 15ft off the ground and we pretty much just stepped off the platform, swung back and forth three times and then we were told to let go! Well Woop-de-frickin-doo! I wanted to be hung upside-down and flipping around and all the cool stuff that you see on Cirque du Soleil – as I said, a bit naive maybe.

The Flying Trapeze experience I was expecting

Anyway, we finished up there and then we were told to go grab a drink and be back in 10 minutes… I had time to see the other groups before they finished up: The tight-wire was over in the far corner, it was basically a wooden bench (you remember the ones that used to be around the outside of our school gym?) which was upside-down – about 10 inches off the ground – with a wire going along the top. I was thinking it would be up a little higher with perhaps a net beneath in case you fell… obviously not!

Then there was the acrobatic balancing. This was what I imagine American cheerleaders doing – they were all standing on each-others back, holding each-others feet and making pyramid formations before all falling on top of each-other.

Circus or Cheerleaders?

I didn’t much like the idea of this for a couple of reasons:

1. I didn’t know any of these people (not one of them had made the slightest effort to include me in their group) and I didn’t really want to be grabbing hold of their sweaty feet, nor did I want them grabbing mine.

2. I hadn’t shaved my legs for several days (look it was December OK and I needed the extra warmth!) and didn’t much fancy the idea of someones hand slipping and them getting carpet burn!

In tghe end I decided that I wasn’t actually having any fun ….. so I LEFT! I actually just went to the changing room, got dressed and left. I never thought of myself as a quitter but seriously, I was already exhausted and quite frankly, bored.

I decided that my evening would be better spent at a friends house with a bottle of wine so that’s what I did.

I don’t necessarily think that this activity isn’t good, under the right circumstances: If you are in a big group and want to do something a bit different for a hen/stag do or birthday it’s probably great fun. Just as long as you know what to expect.

Had my expectations not been so high I may well have enjoyed it, but C’est la vie

I have been abseiling twice in my life:

The first time I was 7, my Mum and Dad had sent me on holiday to a PGL camp and one of the activities was abseiling. It was only about 10 metres high but by the time I made it up to the top I was terrified!

Luckily I was the last person to go up so I didn’t hold up the other kids while I stood up there, teetering on the edge for about half an hour!

I just couldn’t bring myself to tilt backwards…. there were about 3 instructors up there with me all trying to encourage me but I wouldn’t budge. In the end they said I would have to climb back down the ladder and I think that’s what made me decide to do it in the end…. I didn’t want the other kids making fun of me for being the only one too scared to do it!

I made it to the bottom, it’s a bit of a blur (having been 20 years ago!) but I remember that I enjoyed it as, when I got to the bottom I actually asked if I could do it again! Much to the annoyance of pretty much everyone.

Anyway, I think that’s what gave me the adrenaline bug. I had never really done anything like it and I hadn’t even really been on many theme park rides as I was too short!

Last year – nearly 20 years on – I had the opportunity to try abseiling again! It was a charity event that I saw on a poster in my office…. An Abseil off of Capital Towers – a building in London 12 Stories high.

I convinced my friend Suleman to do it with me and we got to gathering sponsors around the office.

We set out on a sunny March afternoon from work and headed over to Capital Towers. I was navigating so of course we got lost and went into the wrong building (a pretty typical event as anyone who knows me could tell you) although it became apparant that we were not the only ones to make the mistake: A rather grumpy old man on the reception desk got a bit narky, saying things like ‘does it look like a 12 story building?’ ‘Can’t you people read?’ and ‘You’re the 20th person who’s been in here today asking me this stupid question’. We pretty much just legged it out of there with him still ranting on and headed round the corner where we finally founf the right building.

We went into reception, handed in our sponsorship forms and cash and went over to get to our instructor. She took us up to the 12th floor and while still in the stairway, got into our harnesses.

We then climbed the last set of stairs up to the roof, walked quite a precarious looking plank of wood up to the edge of the building.

Right about then was when I got real nervous. I had a flashback of me, standing up on that abseil tower at age 7, too scared to take that first step. I resolved to not let that happen again and walked boldly over to the edge and turned around.

On the signal I held on to my rope and tilted backwards…. I was still terrified, standing there horizontal to the ground with what now seemed like a very thin piece of rope, knowing that the only was was down!

I put a brave face on, gritted my teeth and took my first tentative steps. I actually went first but Suleman soon caught up.

Side by side we descended down, going past windows where office workers were staring at us from behind computers, past a kitchen where people were making tea and pointing at us…. I was still going at a fairly slow pace and Suleman soon overtook me, doing his best spiderman impression – practically running!

Down I continued and began to start wondering how far I had left – I was so intent on not looking down that I really had no idea how far i’d gone. I decided it was probably safe by now as I must be near the bottom so I braved a look. I wasn’t as far down as I thought – in face only about half way! I swiftly returned my line of site to staring straight ahead.

I checked again about a minute later and found that the side of the building was about to disappear… the last story must have been in the centre of the building where there was a walkway which went right the way through so only pillars on either side could be seen. I hadn’t even noticed this so it was a good job I looked when I did.

I made it down the last few metres pretty fast – daring to let the rope slip through my fingers for longer than I’d dared before.

I really enjoyed the experience and would definately do it again. 7MHEBS2HQPGZ

I did my first Bungee jump last year, followed by my second about 20 minutes later!

OMG I can’t describe how awesomely amazing it was!! But I can’t wait til I can do it again….

I had been wanting to do a Bungee Jump since landing from my skydive. It took almost 10 years but I got there in the end. I actually asked my Mum to buy me a bungee jump gift voucher to ensure that I actually did it!

I went to Windsor bray on a freezing December morning and within half an hour of arriving I was getting into my harness. Once I was prepared I had to sit in a chair right underneath the crane to watch a guy hurtle towards me from above and bounce around wildly whilst screaming at the top of his lungs!

Within minutes he was down and the crane swiftly followed. I then had to bunny hop over (I had the straps around my ankles already) to the crane and get inside.

While riding up in the crane lift to a heart stopping 160ft I was being told what I needed to do – a relatively short course of:

Hold on to the sides of the crane

Put your toes over the edge

Put your arms out

Jump

And before I new it I was at the top and the gate was being opened. Until that point I was quite calm! I had told myself not to think about jumping until I actually had to do it but I think that may have made me more nervous – then it hit me hard all of a sudden that I was actually going to have to (willingly) dive off!

Now, I was never one for diving into water except from the side of the pool, and once off of the smallest ever diving board… Whenever I ventured up to the big diving board I couldn’t bring myself to dive off of it – I used to jump feet first but head first? no. You’ll find that throughout my talk of thrill seeking, things that involve water will be scarce as I have what I feel is a somewhat healthy fear of drowning!

So, when I came to having to dive 160ft off this precariously suspended crane over a lake, my heart was racing like a good ‘un!

Standing with my toes hanging over the edge I started to doubt that I was actually going to be able to go through with it. I had my countdown: 3, 2, 1, GO and I said ‘I Can’t!’

Within a second I gave myself a silent pep talk. I told myself the longer I stayed up there thinking about it, the less I’d be likely to actually do it and that no matter what I WAS going to do this! I told myself not to think about it at all and just jump……so I said ‘Countdown again!‘ so he did and I jumped! I actually just dived off, head first with my arms outstretched and felt like I was flying!

It was so amazing! I was a little worried because I have bad ankles and was expecting to at least feel a jolt of some sort, but I didn’t! I think that maybe it was because I had an additional cord attached around my waist – some places do this and others don’t from what I understand.

I bounced around for a minute or so then was finally brought back down to earth. While I was being released of the cord I was asked ‘Did you enjoy it?’ To which I responded ‘Can I do it again?’

Not only was I able to do it again but they told me it would be Half Price! Awesome! The guys filling out the forms told me that, now I was a pro I should jump backwards…. Backwards?!?!

I said I’d think about it and I booked myself back in, waited about 20 minutes and before you know it I was back in the crane, heading toward to sky.

I didn’t decide until I got right to the top that, OK, I’ll try it backwards…. when the gate was opened I stepped up to the edge, turned around and put my heels over the edge………. I got really scared when I was told I’d really have to launch myself backwards to make sure I didn’t go feet first….. ‘That wouldn’t be good’ I was told. I got a little too scared that I’d lose my nerve a little too late and wouldn’t get the right angle, so I asked if I could be dropped (the guy holds on to your cord, you lean back then he just drops you). He was quite happy…. ‘That’s more fun for me’ he says.

He rabs hold of my cord, tels me to lean back while holding onto the sides of the gate, then when I was ready I should put both hands behind my head – I tried letting go but wasn’t central so I swayed to the right and nearly slipped! Luckily the guy had a firm hold of the cord and he righted me. I managed to get into position and, hands behind my head counts ’3, 2′ Then he dropped me!

I should have known, it’s the oldest trick in the book but my heart was in my throat as I fell backward towards the murky water below. My heart was still racing when I got back to the safety of the ground but I think that made the experience even more amazing!

Thorpe Park is currently my favourite theme park. When I was young I remember it being pretty boring in comparison to Alton Towers but now, there are so many cool rides to choose from:

Stealth

Nemesis Inferno

Saw

Colossus

Rush

Samurai

Vortex

Slammer

Detonator

X:\No Way Out

Now, the way I judge what’s a good, thrill-seekers ride is if it does at least one of the following things:

Makes you laugh out loud and go ‘Woooooooo’

Literally takes your breath away

Makes you s*!t your pants

All of the rides listed above fit into the category of ‘thrill-seekers rides’! Obviously some are better than others but they all have their own charm.

Stealth

Opened in 2006, Stealth is one of the fastest rollercoasters in Europe! It is a fairly short ride but doesn’t skimp on the thrills…. simply the fact that it fires you off so fast that you get to a staggering 80mph in less than 2 seconds is enough to thrill me!!

The only slightly disappointing thing about it is that from the ground, it looks as though the drop would also be super impressively scary but, alas (for me anyway) it falls a little short because of the way it turns, taking out the stomach lurching aspect you would expect from a 205ft drop.

I think it should have been a completely verticle drop to really keep those screams going from start to end but on the whole it’s a great ride that I go on every time I’m there.

This is a ride that ‘Takes you breath away‘ and I give it a 7/10 on my thrill-seekometer

Nemesis Inferno

Opened in 2003, Nemesis Inferno is the sister coaster to Nemesis at Alton Towers, Europes first inverted rollercoaster with interlocking corkscrews.

There are 4 inverted loops which take you upside-down on the outside of the track, hitting speeds of more than 47mph at a maximum height of over 95ft.

This is a ride I would definately recommend queuing that little bit longer to get onto the front row. If possible, sit on either of the end seats… In these seats you will literally feel you’re about to crash into one of the many trees, cliffs and caves but you’ll find that by the time you’ve thought it, you’ve already whizzed past it, Supercool!

This is a ride that ‘Makes you laugh out loud and go ‘Woooooooo’‘ and I give it an 8/10 on my thrill-seekometer

Saw

Only open since 2009, this is another inverted coaster which suspends you underneath the track. Although it’s still a good rollercoaster I didn’t think it matched up to Nemesis Inferno.

The good points to it are the fact that it’s quite rickety, giving you a sense that it may come off the tracks at points and the 100 degree angle drop, although it’s quite a short drop and thus falls a bit short of being terrifying.

I have to make a point of mentioning the attention to detail that went into the props used, which can be seen whilst you are queuing… There’s a bit where you can see into a window which is stuffed with barbed-wire and a grusome, bloody corpse tangled up inside, lots of ‘Jigsaw’s’ tools dotted around everywhere, close enough to touch. It’s pretty eerie and all adds to the experience.

This is a ride that ‘Makes you laugh out loud – and give a little ‘Wooo’‘ and I give it a 6.5/10 on my thrill-seekometer.

Colossus

This is a classic rollercoaster – you know, the ones that make your head bang from side to side on the head-rest but it’s worth it, kinda rides.

Opened in 2002, with a colossal 10 verticle loops (see what I did there? ) boasting the UK’s only quadruple corkscrew, and speeds of up to 45mph, Colossus is a must for any coaster fan.

This is a ride that ‘Makes you laugh out loud and go ‘Woooooooo’‘ and I give it an 8/10 on my thrill-seekometer

Rush

OK, this ride really suprised me, I was queuing up for the first time thinking it was just the 21st century version of the old-fashion Pirate Ship….. Oh how WRONG I was! This was the first ride in years that actually made me scared and think ‘I Wanna Gerrof!’ when it started getting higher and higher. Now THAT is the mark of a good ride!!

I think what makes it so terrifying is the fact that you are only held in by a bar that sits really low on your lap, making you really feel like you could fall off (which of course you can’t).

With a height of 75ft, speeds of 50mph and a staggering 4g’s, this is a must for any thrill seeker.

This is a ride that ‘Makes you laugh out loud and go ‘Woooooooo’‘ and ‘Makes you s*!t your pants‘ and I give it an 9/10 on my thrill-seekometer

Samurai

This is a really awesome ride which will leave you literally not knowing which way is up and which is down. Not only does it spin relentlessly through 360 degreesvertically, but the arm (where you sit) are also spinning you around so your going sideways, diagonally, upside-down and inside-out.

There have been similar types of rides across fairgrounds over the years but they don’t come close to the speed, size and height of the Samurai. It really does turn your stomach so I wouldn’t recommend eating right before riding!

This is a ride that ‘Makes you laugh out loud and go ‘Woooooooo’‘ and I give it a 7.5/10 on my thrill-seekometer

Vortex

This ride is similar to the Samurai in that you can’t tell which way is up and which is down, although it’s not as disorientating. It swings back and forth like a Pirate Ship while spinning round and round, and round and round….

It’s a good ride and it’s definately worth a go, but if you only have time for one more ride I’d choose the Samurai over Vortex.

This is a ride that ‘Makes you laugh out loud and go ‘Woooooooo’‘ and I give it a 6.5/10 on my thrill-seekometer

Slammer

If Rush is the improved, 21st century version of the Pirate Ship, then Slammer is the improved, 21st Century version of the Marie Rose (a Pirate ship that goes upside-down).

You feel a little more secure than in Rush because of the extra shoulder support, but it still doesn’t feel much safer due to the speeds and the fact that it turns in a complete 360 – then half way through the direction changes so you go both forwards and backwards!.

By speeds I mean both slow, and fast. It starts off slow which makes you feel that you are going to fall when you go upside-down – your bum will still lift off the seat no matter how tight you pull those shoulder supports down – when it goes fast you’re hit with some extreme G-Force and find yourself clinging to the shoulder supports for dear life (I still can’t go ‘No Hands’ on this one!

This is a ride that ‘Makes you laugh out loud and go ‘Woooooooo’‘ and ‘Makes you s*!t your pants‘ and I give it a 9/10 on my thrill-seekometer

Detonator

Another one which has been replicated in fairgounds, Detonator might not be for everyone. It’s a pretty short ride but never fails to terrify me (obviously Detonator is a bit higher than your average fairground version).

It’s simple in design: straight up – Sloooowly, straight down – Reeeeaaal FAST.

This is a ride that ‘Takes you breath away‘ and Makes you s*!t your pants and I give it a 7/10 on my thrill-seekometer

X:\No Way Out

A classic enclosed rollercoaster which is so dark you have no idea what’s coming next. To be honest though, that’s pretty much all there is to it. There are no real stomach churning drops, no loops, just darkness. This works for me maybe once but, after being on it once you know there’s nothing that scary hidden away in there so it doesn’t draw me back.

This is a ride that ‘Makes you laugh out loud – and give a little ‘Wooo’‘ and I give it a 5/10 on my thrill-seekometer.

Saw Alive

This is the first ride of it’s type that I know of. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the outside – we knew that there were actors and that we would be going into what looked like an old abandoned warehouse but apart from that… The pshycological torment begins in the queue; you are surrounded by a barbed wire fence which is about 10ft high and gets narrower and narrower as you get closer to the ride until you are only able to walk in single file.

As we got closer we started to see people emerging in tears, shaking, some laughing but mostly just looking green. One girl went in only to come out again after about 10 seconds!

We finally got to the front of the queue and went in… I was with my friend Sonia and the two of us were to go through the maze with a young family of four. We were told to hold onto the shoulders of the person in front and walk in single file at all times. “The actors WILL touch you” we were told “But you are NOT to touch them!”. OK I’m already freaked out now!

We walked into a room and were shown a Jigsaw video by a couple of Swat guys with blood running down their faces – one of them got right into my friends face and was goading her for being at the back; “Think you’re ‘ard do ya? We’ll see!”.

We start moving…. we go through five or six rooms, each one containing people who are chained to the floor/ceiling/wall and crying out desperately for help before running up to you and grabbing hold of your arms and legs (really hard to stop your instincts to kick away whatever is grabbing hold of your ankle!).

What really got me though was the Pig Man: That aweful mask in the movies was donned by an actor who would one second be standing perfectly still in the corner of the room, then the next thing you know he is an inch away from your face, staring at you!! ARGH That freaked me out totally and my poor friend (who was at the very back) was being followed by him and he kept putting his head practically on her shoulder and breathing down her neck!

Needless to say we were happy to get through it and be out in daylight again! It is definately a unique ride (although some have compared it to the London Dungeons) but I think they could have done more with the visual effects of ‘torture’. I was expecting to see a man sawing off his foot but instead he was already sat there with his foot in his hand and most of the others didn’t really look like there was much wrong with them, other than that they were chained up but able to move around the whole room.

If none of that had been there and we were just being followed around by that aweful pig man, I wouldn’t have noticed the difference as that was really the only scary part – although granted it was scary enough – I still shudder when I think back on that.

This is a ride that Makes you s*!t your pants and I give it a 7/10 on my thrill-seekometer

If you want to test it out too, get a day ticket from buyagift.com (cheaper than buying on the day )

If you don’t live near enough to Thorpe Park to go for the day, why not stay overnight at a nearby hotel? We used to do that when we went to Alton Towers and would go for a long weekend, we’d drive up on the Friday afternoon and stay overnight in a nearby hotel, then we’d get a 2 day pass to the park and go on the saturday, then for about half a day on the Sunday and head home at about 3 – home in time for tea

You can book a Hotel/Hotel/B&B near Thorpe Park from Late Rooms
