I decided to write this blog post today to discuss why I believe environment is critical to your success. By sharing my story, I hope to inspire you to step outside your comfort zones in spite of fear. Recently I relocated from Massachusetts to San Diego because of the beautiful year round weather and the opportunity to accelerate the growth of my life coaching business.

I had been planning to relocate to San Diego for the last few years, however I kept resisting stepping outside my comfort zone to do it. Most of the resistance that I was feeling was fear based, such as fear of uncertainty, fear of the unknown, and fear of not being able to support myself while I build my coaching practice. I recently left a 30 year career in the medical field to follow my dreams of building a successful life coaching practice here in San Diego. I sold everything I owned including a Mustang GT convertible that I recently paid off, and used the money for airfare, moving expenses, and start-up costs for my life coaching business.

One of the biggest things that I've realized now that I've made this shift outside my comfort zone is that I've grown so much personally and professionally. During this transformational process I've had to reinvent myself, and breakthrough many obstacles in order to reach the goals that I set for myself. By placing myself in a new environment I've been forced to adapt to the new surroundings and become resourceful with the resources that I currently have. I have heard many successful people state that you are the average of the 5 friends you associate most with in terms personal and professional success. Now that I've relocated to San Diego, I will be making connections with new people who will stretch me personally and professionally to achieve greater success and fulfillment.

None of this would have been possible without the help of many friends and life coaches in the coaching community that I'm a part of.   They have inspired, challenged, and provided an objective perspective when I needed it most. I want to acknowledge each of you for the significant role you've played in my life, and in my success. You know who you are.

I arrived in San Diego with no car or place to live, and have since purchased a BMW convertible and found a nice apartment in La Jolla to rent. I share these things with you not to impress you, but to impress upon you the importance of being resourceful with the resources that you currently have. I have an immense amount of appreciation and gratitude for the good fortune that has come my way over the last month. I feel like a giant magnet who is attracting the resources I need to realize my full potential and reach my goals. There are two quotes that I would like to share with you before I wrap up because they relate to this article, and some of the lessons I've learned.

I hope something I've said in this blog article today strikes an emotional chord within you to step outside your comfort zone and embrace change. Hopefully I've given given you a greater awareness of why environment is critical to your success. I believe your happiness and personal fulfillment depends on it.

I challenge you to step outside your comfort zone and do something different. Please let me know what actions you've taken or what actions your going to take to change your environment in some way. For example, it could be changing the location of where your live, or maybe changing the circle of friends you currently associate with, or even something simple like changing the location of the furniture in your home office or house. When you attend an Anthony Robbins seminar, you will come out of that experience with your eyes opened to a lot of new ideas.  And probably the most amazing new ideas you will learn from Robbins' teaching will have to do with how you tick as a person.

The human heart and mind are complicated things and much of the reason why we get derailed in life has to do with our lack of understanding of how we tick as people.  That is one of the real values of learning the principles that come from reading an Anthony Robbins book or hearing him speak.  You begin to decipher yourself and in doing so, you get control in ways that were never possible before.

Our emotions are an area that we sometimes have trouble understanding how we can get control.  They seem to come and go under their own set of rules and many times we become slaves to our emotions.  You knew before you picked up your first Robbins book that this is a problem.  When sudden surges of emotions take over and hinder your work or your time with someone important, that is when we need some methods for becoming the boss of our emotions and not let them boss us around any more.

Robbins does not teach that we should suppress or get rid of our emotions.  Not only would that dehumanize us if that were even possible, it is not even desirable.  Our emotions are our control panel to our inner machinery.  It is our emotions that surface our true values and what really is important to us.  Suppressing the emotions would not only cut us off from important information about our priorities, it is dangerous to us as people.  To be healthy people, our emotions must have a healthy way to be expressed and to be part of who we are every day.  The key is to take control of the meaning behind our emotions and in doing so, take control of how our emotions motivate us.

The link between meaning and emotion seems a bit odd when you first hear it.  But the more you think about it, the more sense it makes.  Basically, it is grounded in the fact that our emotions are tied to what we value and what is important to us.  Hence, we will get emotional about things relative to our own family but not things that happen to other people's family.  Emotions also are tied to our ambitions in life.  So if I am frustrated in my goals at work, that causes anger, despair, frustration and other negative emotions but if I see things "going my way", strong positive emotions will arise.

Maybe the biggest break through of Anthony Robbins teachings about the linkage of meanings and emotions is that this knowledge gives us power to control our emotions, not by trying to suppress our natural instincts but by understanding the priorities and areas of personal devotion that cause emotions to come to the surface, sometimes inappropriately.

This can happen easily at work.  It is good to be ambitious for your personal goals at work.  But when you place a high value or meaning on your personal ambitions so much so that they conflict with the ambitions of peers at work, conflicts can arise.  By understanding how this works, you can mitigate your ambitions by seeing that your own career goals must also be balanced with the goals of the company and of your fellow workers.  By beginning to see them as partners and friends and not competitors, you capture control of the emotions that may have lead to ugly outbursts in the past.

You can apply this principle to any area where emotion is hurting your progress in life or causing you pain or embarrassment rather than joy and the power emotion can give you to accomplish your dreams.  Many of Anthony Robbins' teachings help us become the boss of not only what emotions we feel but what we feel emotional about.  There is no doubt that getting that kind of control over this volatile part of your personality may be one of the most powerful benefits you can get from any of Anthony Robbins outstanding teachings.

The word "millionaire" dominates the positive thinking world.  That word has become a byword for phenomenal success and the realization of your dreams.  It dominates The Secret and dozens if not hundreds of books, articles and web sites devoted to teaching you and I how to use the power of your mind to make good come to you and to take that power and become a millionaire.

Here is the problem.  What is a millionaire?  A millionaire, at a very basic definition is a person who owns one million dollars of money.  Now you can play around about if that wealth is represented in the form of an actual bank balance or it exists in form of holdings such as homes, stocks and bonds.  But the definition holds that a millionaire is defined by a certain some of financial wealth.  And the fact that the word "millionaire" dominates the world of positive thinking and self-empowerment would give you the impression that getting money is the only goal.

It is helpful to recognize that probably the most successful writer and teacher on how to turn your life around, Anthony Robbins, does not focus on that specific sum of money as the final judgment of whether you have realized your dreams in life.  And because his teaching gives us greater depth of what it means to be able to summon your powers of self-motivation to achieve success, that teaching moves us away from the idea that "becoming a millionaire" is the end all and be all of success.

It isn’t bad to want to be able to afford a nice lifestyle for you and your family.  It isn't bad to want to reach a level of success that you and others can see that you are successful and that visual signal of success is in the form of wealth.  But to fixate on money and on a specific amount of money at that robs the teachings on self-development that are what make the books and seminars of Anthony Robbins so helpful to millions of people.

By letting the realization of a large sum of money become the central goal of any self-development program turns you from looking within yourself to find what it means to you to be a success and forces you toward a quest of seeking monetary wealth.  It also means that if someone who is trying to achieve the goal of using the law of attraction and other self-development tools to get a million dollars suddenly lucks into money, he will think that his quest is over because he got a million dollars.

What Anthony Robbins teaches is not about money at all.  Money may be part of your dream in life and once you start your climb out of failure to success, money may be part of it.  But everyone in the world doesn’t have the life of becoming a millionaire in their destiny.  And by removing the trapping that getting a million dollars is the goal of all who learn to use positive thinking techniques, Robbins' teaching allows you to look to your own calling in life to discover what your destiny is on this earth.  And once you find that destiny from within, Robbins gives you the abilities and skills to reach out and grab that goal and make it your own.

It is only in this way that any of us can come to a place of final satisfaction.  Robbins cannot define for me what my destiny is any more than I can define that for you.  But Robbins does teach you and I how to reach out and make our dreams come true.  And that is by far a better gift than even getting a million dollars.

There is an evolution of thought we have to go through if we are going to reach for the ultimate in what we want from life.  That is the goal any of us have that decide to take advantage of the teachings of people like Anthony Robbins who know how to guide us to great wealth and achievement.  There is a cycle of commitment we go through.  It might start with curiosity and then with taking on the learning cycle of attending Anthony Robbins seminars and reading his books.

At some point, the teaching begins to take hold and you actually find yourself changing in how you think and how you view the world.  This might even happen before you make a conscious decision to implement the teachings of Anthony Robbins in your life.  But even at a very early level, you will begin to see the results.  You will be more energetic and find yourself able to control your thoughts easier and focus better on goals that you set for yourself.

But there comes a moment when your dedication to the discipline of using Robbins' teachings to reach for only the best in life will cross a threshold and you will be ready to become a true disciple of the process and take seriously your commitment to achieving wealth and becoming a master of your own thoughts and emotions.  This is an important moment that much of the training you have been going through in the teaching of Anthony Robbins has been preparing you for.  But it is a moment when empowering yourself to achieve your dreams stops being a hobby or a game and it becomes the most important thing you are doing in your life.

It isn’t the teaching that makes it important.  The teaching is a resource, a tool and a vehicle to take you from a life of limitations and of accepting defeat in your life to a life of mental power and the ability to focus your energies to succeed in any goal you set out to conquer.  You will learn some important skills along the way.  You will learn to control your thoughts so negative thoughts that seek to trap you in defeat are not welcome in your mind.  You will also learn to work with your emotions rather than against them so you can use your emotions as power generators to propel you toward your goals.

But perhaps the most potent skills and tools Anthony Robbins' teachings will give you will be the power of focus and self will.  At first identifying what your dream meant to you and what "achieving wealth" looked like in your mind was something you were playing with because it was fascinating.  But as you have become more and more serious that this goal was not an option but the central quest of this part of your life, your focus becomes crystal clear and your self will and resolve so stubborn that you will NOT let down, make excuses and settle for less ever again.  That may have been how you handled your dreams early in life but that will not do any more.

You have your own reasons for taking the discipline to realize real wealth that seriously.  But the teachings of Anthony Robbins are clear that passing through that mental threshold where compromise is not an option is a crucial step that you must accomplish if you hope to see success in your quest for fulfillment and satisfaction.

Where that distant dream was once a whim, it now defines who you are.  What you have learned in your early months of the program is that your dreams always defined you.  You just did not live up to who you were meant to be because you settled for second best.  But Robbins has shown you that second best is never good enough.   And because your will and focus are firm, you will not stop until you have realized your dream and the wealth and accomplishment you were made to achieve has been accomplished.  You will never be the same again because you learned to live the life of a winner.  And that is a very good thing indeed.

I was one of five life coaches who was selected to be interviewed about life coaching by Eric Archer from the Wellesley Media Group. Excerpts from this interview were used for an episode of "Inside Wellesley".  In this interview, Erich examines the barriers to self-advancement that people experience from time to time. Fear, anxiety procrastination, and self-sabotage can leave us feeling stuck, unable to take the necessary steps toward the futures that we imagine for ourselves. There have been numerous articles written about the salary of a life coach. According to Forbes.com only 10 to 20 percent of coaches have a successful six figure salary. The salary of a life coach varies widely, and many life coaches go broke trying to build a successful life coaching business. The sad reality is that only 5% of self employed professionals and small business owners earn over $100,000 a year. This means that 95% of business struggle to survive, and many small businesses will not be around next year.

The purpose of this article is to offer you a solution to the challenges you up against. Today we will be looking at eight keys to building a successful six figure salary of a life coach. Mastering client attraction and marketing are key factors to building a successful six figure life coaching business. Let’s explore these key actions in greater detail.

1. Join a local BNI (Business Networking International) group and attend weekly. The importance of this one activity cannot be overemphasized. This will help to keep your marketing funnel always full, so you don’t experience the ups and downs in your income.
2. Start an e- newsletter and send it out twice a month.
3. Create an irresistible free offer (IFO). It can be a CD or Free report. CD’s generally will work better.
4. Join trade associations of the life coaching niche you’re in. If you don’t have a niche yet, make sure you get one!
5. Find out where your ideal prospects hang out and network with them on a regular basis.
6. Start speaking to groups about your area of expertise. There’s no reason to be afraid of public speaking because remember, you’re the expert! If you shift the focus from yourself and being nervous to focusing on helping others with the valuable information you’re sharing, you’ll do fine.
7. Integrate social media and video into your business plan and be active on major sites like YouTube, Twitter, Linkedin, and Twitter. Video is a great way to connect with your clients, and it gets ranked higher in the search engines.
8. Article marketing is another key to building a successful six figure salary of a life coach. You can write these articles yourself or hire someone to do it for you. Major search engines life Google are looking for quality content for their readers. Submit articles on a regular basis. (Three to five times a week is great, and daily is optimal). Make sure you your article is optimized for the search engines with a link to your irresistible free offer. If you’re not sure how to do this, there are many resources available to help get you started.

These eight action steps will only work if you work them. I have implemented many of these action steps in my own business, and they have made a significant difference.  I hope you'll do the same, now that you're aware of what it takes. If you implement all eight steps to building a successful six figure salary of a life coach on a regular basis, you will be among the 5% of self employed professionals earning $100,000 a year and beyond!

I was recently invited by Eric Archer from the Wellesley Media Group to participate in a segment they were doing on life coaching for their show "Inside Wellesley". I was honored to be part of this  TV special on life coaches, and I hope this video raises public awareness about the  life coaching profession and it's many benefits. Life coaching is a relatively new profession which is continuing to evolve.

What can a Life Coach do for you?

Linda Marks is a graduate of MIT and Yale and has practiced body psychotherapy, coaching, and mediation in Newton for 27 years.

Roberta Taylor became a retirement transition coach in Wellesley after a long career as a psychotherapist. And John Curran is a work-life balance coach who works with entrepreneurs in areas of time management, focus, and the stress of running businesses.

Blog marketing can be quite complicated for anyone that has never even blogged before. If you are considering getting into small business blog marketing, you will want to first have a blog and see what that is like before you get into something more. Blogging requires dedication and patience. You have to update your blog on a regular basis in order to keep your readers happy. Doing so will keep them coming back for more and to see what you have new to say.

Small business blog marketing consists of blogging about your business. It definitely is a great tool that you should use to get your business out there and known by others. However, you will need to be patient because it is a long process that will require much of your attention. Just because you have a blog does not mean that someone is going to find it and read it. You are going to have to make it known. If you have a website for your business, you can link your blog to it and that will let the ones that know about your business and business website know about your blog as well.

Small business blog marketing is something that anyone can do. Having a blog and keeping it up to date with the latest information is not hard. All you need to have is a plan and you will be set to market any type of business from your blog. Whether you are selling a product or a service, it does not matter. A blog that is marketed the right way will be beneficial to any business whatever it might be.

So you are probably wondering how you are going to accomplish this small business blog marketing. When you are marketing a blog, you pretty much do it the same way that you would market a website. It is going to need keywords, and content. You can write the content yourself, or pay someone else to write it for you. That part is totally up to you. However you will want to be sure that the content is decent and something that your readers will want to read. This will keep them coming back. Make sure that the content is written from special keywords that you choose. You will also want to become familiar with SEO which is Search Engine Optimization. SEO will help you to optimize your blog to get a better ranking with the search engines.

Once you have chosen the keywords, and gotten some content published on your blog, you will be ready to get it out there some more. Link exchanges are wonderful for marketing your small business blog. You want to try and exchange links with sites that are relevant to yours, but not in direct competition. If you try to exchange links with sites in competition with yours, you are going to find that many of them will turn you down in fear of losing business to you.

Paid directories are a big part of small business blog marketing as well. You can pay some directories to list your blog URL in their directory under the specific category that it falls under. However, some of these even have specific qualifications that you must have to get in. Follow all of the application steps, and you should be ok. Just do not try to submit your blog to a directory that it does not qualify for, or fit in.

Another important thing to remember when you are into small business blog marketing is that if anyone leaves you a comment on your blog, you should acknowledge it and respond. You can also comment on other blogs that are relevant to yours, and leave a link to your blog as well. This will help bring in visitors to your blog, and you will begin to see more and more traffic.

Small business blog marketing is not rocket science, however someone that has never marketed a single thing before in their life may have problems. Just be persistent, and don’t give up.

Do you work from home?  If you are, you may enjoy the fact that you are able to work from the comfort of your own home. Although working from home is nice, there are some home based workers who find themselves in trouble with their supervisors, find themselves having difficultly meeting deadlines, and so forth. 

When many individuals, especially home based workers, think of office management, traditional workplace settings are often the first thing that comes to mind. Yes, this is most often the case, but it is important to note that even home based workers can benefit from office management.  Even if you are your only employee, it is advised that you develop an office management plan for yourself, as there are a number of benefits to doing so.

The first step in creating an office management plan for yourself is examining your workplace. Do you have a home office?  Although you may not have a separate room to use for your office, you are still advised to have your own space. This space should at least include an office desk.  If at all possible, you may want to try and create your own office. This can be done by examining all walk-in closets in your home or by setting up an office curtain, which can act as office doors and walls.  Having your own space is the first step in ensuring that your at-home operations are professionally operated.

Speaking of creating a real office feel, it is important to know that there are a number of benefits to doing so.  Many home based workers are known to produce better results and be more productive when working in a professional setting. This does not mean that you cannot work from a convenient location inside or outside of your home; it just means that you should consider creating an office space for you in your home, even if you use it only on occasion.  This extra step is one that may prove beneficial and profitable to you.

Another step that you can take, to develop an office management plan for yourself, is by using office management software.  Office management software comes in a number of different formats, but it is designed to ease the running of a business.  Many enable you to keep all important information, such as billing records, customer records, and so forth, in one location.  If you are a contract worker for another company or if you created a business comprised of other home based workers, you may want to purchase office management software that is web based, as all can benefit from its use, namely the ability to easily communicate and share important information.

One simple step that you can take to bring more order to your home based office is by acting as if you have someone to answer to.  You will want to do this even if you are your own boss.  This may help to improve your productivity and your performance.  It is no secret that many work harder and produce better results when they have someone to answer to. 

The above mentioned points are all points that you will want to take into consideration, if you are a home based worker or if you are looking to become one. You  may think that it is easy working from home but most people work harder than when in the office.

Blog marketing is something that all blog owners do. They market their blog so that they can get readers, and make a profit from their blogs. Marketing their blog means to get it out there so that others that are interested in it can find it and read it. It is also a great way to sell things by using affiliate links and programs. Blog marketing can very well become a home business if that is something that you are interested in.

Having a home business by blog marketing would definitely entail that you have more than one blog. If this is something that you are considering, you will want to make a list of markets that your blogs can cover. You will find that your blogs will do best when you only have one market per blog. For example, if you have a blog about cats, you will not want to include anything on the blog about kitchen appliances. This is because the readers that read your blog and visit your blog to learn more about cats and what you have to say about them will not be interested in learning anything about kitchen appliances. Once you have overcome the relevancy issue, you will be okay. You can however, have a blog about pets, and then blog about all of the many pets that you want to include.

In order to make a living by blog marketing, you need to know every aspect of it. You need to know what needs to be done to get readers to your blog, how to write about the things that you are promoting and how to get it up in search engine rankings. Doing so will lead to successful blog marketing and making a home business income with it.

One big aspect of blog marketing is SEO. SEO is search engine optimization and it consists of optimizing your blog so that the search engines will find it and rank it as high as possible. Which also leads to more traffic and leads from your blog. If you do not have time to learn SEO, and apply it to all of your blogs, hiring someone to do this for you might be something that you want to consider. Especially if time is an issue.

Outsourcing much of your work is something that you will need to get used to if you plan on making a substantial amount of money with your blogs. You may want to hire bloggers or writers that can write the content for your blogs, and someone else that can leave comments on other blogs with a link back to yours. Spread out all of the duties on a spread sheet and decide how often each thing needs to be done for each blog. Doing so will help you to be more organized and know what you need to do when, as well as prioritize. Using a spread sheet will also help you to keep track of who is doing what, and keep you from asking more than one person to get one job done.

Blog marketing for a home business is not much different from any other home business. You are going to get out of it what you put into it. If you only put in a couple of hours a week into your blogs, you can not expect to make a full time income with them. However, being consistent and working on your blogs every chance that you get will pay off in the long run. You will also discover that there is no better feeling in the world than owning your own home business, and working for yourself.

Just remember to start small, and work hard. That is all you need to become successful at blog marketing and make the income that you are dreaming of. All of your hard work will pay off if you are persistent and keep it up.
