It’s been quite some time since our last update. Holidays, crazy work schedules and moving into a new neighbourhood drained on those precious hours we normally work on our CodeGazer products. After careful testing we finally bring you VistaGlazz 2.1!

What’s new in VistaGlazz 2.1?

We’ve cleaned up a lot of the code in our solution, simplified the patching routines. This should result in better stability and prevent those VistaGlazz stopped working messages.
We’ve added a commandline utility that should give you the ability to perform most of the patching / unpatching actions without user interface
We’ve moved the diagnostic application to a separate executable, decreasing memory usage and making it easier to find
We’ve upgraded the setup, added a few .NET framework checks and better Windows 7 support

Goodbye forum, hello GetSatisfaction

Today we say goodbye to the forum and introduce GetSatisfaction. With GetSatisfaction we can more efficiently handle your support calls, questions and ideas. As you can see there is also a feedback tab on the left of your screen. You can use that to create a message to us on the fly. We’re looking forward to your feedback.

The beauty of freeware is that it is accessible to everyone. We don’t have to worry about piracy, because we encourage everyone to download and enjoy it. One of the downsides of freeware is that you have to put a lot of time and effort into developing an application, and though we appreciate all the great feedback, it’s very likely that the costs will only increase. Working on VistaGlazz 2.1

Thank you all for the feedback on VistaGlazz 2.0

We’re glad to see that it enables a lot of people to use custom themes on their systems. With this post I’d like to address a few questions we’ve got by email or on the forum:

It says my system is not supported, what does that mean?
We try to make VistaGlazz compatible with a lot of systems. However there are a few culture specific Windows versions that have their own unique files that need patching, which are hard for us to support. Another reason your files might not be supported could mean that Microsoft released a small update. Late January or early February we’ll release VistaGlazz 2.1 with enhanced patching routines.

I can patch my system but not my aero style
Aero patches are only available on Windows Vista (Aero editions: Home Premium, Ultimate etc.). Microsoft introduced Aero with Windows Vista, that rules out Windows XP support. In Windows 7 maximized windows are already transparent, so there’s no need for a patched Aero.

If you have any problems installing visual styles or patching your system please have a look at the VistaGlazz help file. You can find it in your Start Menu or by pressing F1 in VistaGlazz.

We’ve been working on a new product for quite some time and we would like to present it to you on this fine day. Also, we’d like to quit work and drink cocktails on a tropical island for the rest of our lives. Anyway, this is all not going to happen. Or at least, not today.

VistaGlazz 1.3 - Minor Update, Well Minor-ish…

I went through the forums and noticed a post by UK.Intel regarding the text color and glow in full screen glass mode. How I missed that post we might never know, but I decided to add it to VistaGlazz two weeks ago to see if it would work. It didn’t. For some reason the addresses seemed to be off by a few bytes, not sure why. Anyway, using the screen shots I was able to retrieve the correct addresses and the patch works marvelously on my Vista x64 SP2 system and on my virtual Vista32 SP1. UK.Intel: Thank you for your post!

Meanwhile Yvo improved the diagnostic screen by adding auto repair functionality to fix the most common of VG related problems. He also managed to fix some minor general UI and reboot screen glitches.

VistaGlazz 1.2 - Diagnostic II

It’s great to see the amount of feedback we get on VistaGlazz 1.2. Thank you very much for that. I’ve done another re-release of the 1.2 version. In this build I’ve made the following changes:

- Diagnostic screen is now also available when you press F2 in VistaGlazz
- The help file contains a small description of the diagnostic screen
- Smarter Problems? button on the reboot screen, should be able to fix more errors

Feel free to download the latest version from here: VistaGlazzSetup.exe.
If you don’t have any problems there is no real reason to update your version.

VistaGlazz 1.2 - Diagnostic

A few hours ago I’ve released the new version of VistaGlazz 1.2. I noticed that some of our users still encounter the You have to reboot before you can use VistaGlazz-screen. For these users and other users that encounter problems with VistaGlazz I’ve created the Diagnostic screen.

How to use the Diagnostic screen
- Get the latest version of VistaGlazz (released 5min ago): VistaGlazzSetup.exe
- Run the program with the -diag commandline argument
- You’ll get a Diagnostic form instead of the normal VistaGlazz window
- Hit the Diagnose button and have a look at the output

The easiest way to set the commandline argument is to edit the VistaGlazz shortcut on your Desktop. Rightclick the shortcut and modify the Target field, add -diag after the command (after the last “). To run it normally remove the -diag again.

I hope this is of help to you. Feel free to post the diagnose output on the forum, with the additional information it should be easier for us to assist you.
