Apple Announces April 3rd Launch Date for Wi-Fi iPad in the U.S. – Mac Rumors

Apple today announced that Wi-Fi models of the iPad will go on sale in the United States on Saturday, April 3rd. 3G-capable models in the U.S., as well as both Wi-Fi and 3G models for a number of other countries, will be available in late April. U.S. preorders for all iPad models begin on March 12th.

Samsung Confirms Chrome Based Netbook

At a launch yesterday for several new Intel based Samsung notebooks, the head of Samsung IT, Phil Newton, said that Samsung Australia will introduce a Chrome-based netbook into its line-up later this year that will have built-in 3G Wi Fi capability and 12-hour battery life.

The device will be similar to the new Samsung N210, which has a 10.1-inch LED display screen, he said.

It will come standard with 2GB of memory and at least 64GB of hard drive.

Newton said, “We will be expanding our range shortly and we will have a Chrome-based notebook.”

What is not known is which chipset the new device will incorporate, with some speculating that it could run the new Qualcomm 1.5MhZ Snapdragon processor.

Netflix coming soon to Wii

According to Nintendo, Wii users will soon be able to stream their favorite content from Netflix. This new service, launching in Spring 2010, will be available to normal Netflix subsribers with a broadband internet connection. Just like Sony’s PlayStation 3Wii’s streaming service will be disc based. Netflix’s site has details on how to reserve a disc.

Microsoft Reportedly to Introduce Tablet Today

According to reports from The New York Times and MacRumors, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, will introduce a new tablet device during his CES keynote in Las Vegas this evening.

On Wednesday, Mr. Ballmer, Microsoft’s chief executive, will unveil a novel take on a slate-type computer during his evening keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, according to people familiar with Microsoft’s plans. The slate will be made by Hewlett-Packard and possibly available by mid-year, these people said.

This may be a preemptive strike by Microsoft and HP given the rumors swirling about the Apple iSlate (rumored name) and its announcement on January 27th (date not confirmed by Apple).

The Nexus One will be available in two varieties, an unlocked unsubsidized model that will be sold directly by Google for $529.00 and a subsidized model available on the T-Mobile network for $179.00 (with a 2 year contract). The Nexus One will also be available on Verizon and Vodafone later this spring. Lets look at a run down of the Nexus One’s features:

According to Rick Whiting of ChannelWeb, Google Chrome has eclipsed Apple’s Safari browser to become the world’s third most popular Web browser. Chrome, which has been around just a little more than one year, accounted for 4.63 percent of browser usage in December, compared to Apple Safari usage of only 4.46 percent last month. Recently Google launched extensions for Chrome adding to the popular of the speedy browser.
