The Bluth's are back.

If you are not an Arrested Development junkie do not worry, there is still time.

Log in to Netflix and start with Season 1 Pilot and in a quick 53 episodes or 26.5 hours you'll be hooked. You'll be a monster. And you'll be blue.

Just get through everything at least once before Sunday at midnight when Season 4 is released on Netflix.

If you like Sienfield, Wilfred, 30 Rock and the Office you should already be obsessed with this beautifully written show. If you're not, seriously, I already told you, stop reading and go watch the show!

Netflix will release all episodes at once and you can bet your bottom dollar that people will watch all 14 episodes straight through. The good news is that you can cancel your Memorial Day BBQ and sleep all day after staying up for 7 hours watching TV.

Color Me Domestic - Memorial Day Decorations

Memorial Day is upon us! The official opening of summer! And the first 3 day weekend of the season.

The good news is that decorating for Memorial day is easy and with a few investments now you'll be good to go for the 4th of July and Labor Day too!

American holiday decorating is all about the red, white and blue!

I love this drink dispenser from World Market (similar here) and the red and blue ribbed tumblers, and American flag cocktail napkins. World Market also sells the Freedom Chips which are delicious red, white and blue tortilla chips!

World Market also has Americana stripe napkins and a table cloth and classic bunting flags.

But you can save on those decorations by putting together a quick DIY with crepe paper, double stick tape and string.

It literally is as easy as folding a 5-6 inch strip of crepe paper in half and using a piece of double stick tape to close it off. Then string them together on kitchen twine and hang it up.

Seriously, that easy.

The little bows are also made with crepe paper. This was a pinterest find and I will not pretend that I can explain it better. Here is the crepe paper bow tutorial.

The elements of a great Memorial Day party is to serve finger-food eats, BBQ classics and easy to sip drinks! If you've got a grill you can host a BYO-Meat party where each guest brings something to grill. This way you don't have to pay to feed the whole crowd nor do you have to worry about taste preferences, allergies or special diets!

Color Me Bonita - Anti-Aging Yay or Nay

Our skin care expert Daniela is back today to address a often asked question. I know I stand in the moisturizer aisle for what seems like hours trying to figure out what I need!

What's so special about anti-aging products and when should I start to use them?

I'm going to tell you the Big Dirty Secret about anti-aging : of ALL the anti-aging ingredients, there are only TWO that are preventative as well as corrective - sunscreen and topical antioxidant serums. All others are only corrective, not preventative.

Which means if you don't have any fine lines or wrinkles yet, no corrective product will prevent them. The only thing that will, besides a broad-spectrum sunscreen ("broad-spectrum" means that it filters both UVA and UVB rays and must say so on the label), is something with multiple forms of antioxidants. Only one form in a product usually doesn't do the trick because different antioxidants interrupt the cascade of skin damage at different points. Some of the best antioxidants to look for are, L-ascorbic acid or Magnesium Ascorbal Phosphate (stabilized forms of vitamin c), Sea Whip, Superoxide Dismutase, L-tocopherol (skin penetrating vitamin E), Beta Carotene, acai berry, and pomegranate.

For preventative measure, added moisture does nothing to prevent fine lines. Fine lines and wrinkles do not form as a result of lack of moisture. They form as a result of breakdown of the proteins that hold the skin up when damaged by sun, stress and trauma to the integrity of the skin. Dryness can make existing lines look worse, but moisturizer is for hydration and softening only. If a moisturizer has antioxidants, it will actually be effective at preventing and correcting aging issues. But it will be the antioxidants giving the anti-aging benefit, not the emollients.

Whether you decide to use specifically anti-aging products or not, one of the best things you can do is become super religious with your SPF. 85-90% of aging we see on faces is from sun damage alone! And sun damage is cumulative - five minutes here, ten minutes there, walking back to work from lunch out, walking to the store, you must have sun protection at all times. UV protection sunglasses are a must as well; they should cover as much of your eye area as possible, and must say "UV Protection" on the label.

As for puffiness, dark circles, and existing fine lines and wrinkles, there's nothing like the new Peptide technology for combatting all of these. This class of ingredients is what makes up the entire Olay Regenerist line. However, drugstore products tend to be quite weak in comparison to salon brands, which contain levels of active ingredients that are the same as levels the ingredients were tested at in the lab.

I have also found that the fast majority of national brands that offer anti-aging products are completely inappropriate for those with adult acne or just oily skin. Unfortunately, many formulators, either being misinformed themselves or wanting to give consumers what they want, formulate according to the idea that lubricating emollients are needed to prevent aging, many of which are terribly pore clogging.

101 in 1001 - Northport, MI

Everywhere you turn in Chicago you see Pure Michigan ads. Well, I went and saw it for myself and darn are they right!

On Friday we traveled from Chicago to Northport, MI which is about XX miles north of traverse city. It is a long drive (about 6 hours) but the road goes through lush forest scenery, wide open pastures and Grand Rapids which seemed like a nice, clean, midsized city.

This was my first time in lower Michigan (we skied every year in the UP when I was younger). It is my list so I'm counting this as a new state! It is also being counted as a new destination because I'd never been to Leelanau wine country before.

Friday night we grilled out, drank local wine and then made s'mores by the campfire! Saturday night was the same deal.

Saturday morning Danny and I took Moose, the 5 month old American Stratfordshire puppy for a nice long walk! He was adorable and rather well behaved and it was fun to pretend we had a puppy for 35 minutes.

Saturday afternoon we were driven around by Robert and we toured several local wineries for tastings. The wines were all pretty good but none of the vines are more than 20 years old which is young for grapes! My favorite was Shady Lane, the winery where we just nabbed two bottles (cue: a bottle of red, a bottle of white) and enjoyed our snacks at a picnic table. The best view goes to Willow and their tasting room with an expansive view of the bay. At 45 North we had a private tasting loft where we sampled basically everything and then took more bottles to the patio.

By the time we got back to the house we had sung the same songs 90 times but still wanted to hear them again.

Today's project positive is to take a day off.

So, bye.

Just kidding. But only sort of.

I'd like to announce today that I'm going to take a break from daily posting for the first two weeks of June (the 3rd - 1th). Then after that I'm coming back with a 3 day a week schedule. I am doing this in order to provide better content on a regular basis, not just daily content.

The schedule will be for posts to go live on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. there will be Facebook and Twitter posts on those days too but bonus content and behind the scenes photos going up more often.

So I am taking 2 weeks "off" but I'm going to be working on content to go up as soon as I'm back on June 18th. And to help soften the blow I've got guest posts lined up from some of my favorite bloggers! These ladies were more than willing to share how they plan to style their summer with you.

As I work to create the best posts for you I want to know which type of post do you like best? Recipes, decorating, DIY, style advice, beauty advice, sale notices? Is there something you'd like to see here that we're not doing a time of? Fitness, travel, work advice? Leave comments, tell us on Facebook or send us an email so we can give the people what they want!

So for today's Merrier Monday we recommend planning a stay-cation where you still work behind the scenes but let the spotlight fade a bit. There is also a major positive vibe by doing something without recognition. Something as small as cleaning the office coffee pot when no one else is in the kitchen or bigger, like, letting other bloggers take over your space for two weeks!

Color Me Domestic - Al Fresco Spring Salad

Summer has arrived which has almost everyone outside as much as possible. It sure is true for me! When looking for a recipe for this mild evening I wanted fresh, seasonal ingredients and light but full flavors.

And thus the Al fresco Spring Salad was created.

Seasonal favorites, peas, asparagus and shallots are mixed in with cheese filled pastas and moroccan sausages and topped with a dressing of olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest and mint.

What I love about dishes like this is you can add or subtract the pasta and the meat to fit your need and the flavors will still be excellent. When I make a "salad" for dinner I do always try to beef it up with a grain and a protein.

Al fresco Spring Salad (adapted from Fit Bottomed Eats)

Ingredients

- 2 1/2 cup fresh peas, shelled (frozen acceptable but not ideal)

- 1 bunch of asparagus, trimmed into 1-inch pieces

- 1 small shallot, thinly sliced

- 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves, cut into small strips

- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

- 1 lemon, zested then sliced and juiced

- salt & pepper to taste

- 1 package of refrigerated cheese stuffed pasta (optional)

- Moroccan or Mediterranean style sausages (lamb, chicken, beef) (optional)

- grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Process

Bring a small pot of salted water to a boil. If you're making pasta bring a second pot of salted water to a boil that is big enough for your pasta.

While water warms up, cut up asparagus and set aside. Shell peas (probably not a bad idea to do this before you start the water as it can take a while) and set aside. Also cut shallot and mint then zest and juice your lemon. Toss shallot and lemon juice together. Set aside zest and mint (can be in the same bowl).

Grill sausages if you're using them.

Prepare an ice bath and place strainer in sink.

Once small pot of water boils add fresh peas and cook for 2 minutes (if using frozen follow directions on package). At 2 minutes drain peas and transfer them immediately to the ice bath. Re-strain the peas out of the ice bath after they've sat for a few minutes and fish out any ice chunks. Pat peas dry with a paper towel and put in serving bowl.

Re-fill pot with salted water and bring to a boil. Prepare another ice bath. Now it is time to cook the asparagus for 2 minutes. At 2 minutes drain asparagus and transfer immediately to ice bath. Re-strain the asparagus and pat dry with a paper towel and mix with peas in serving bowl.

Toss together peas, asparagus, shallot, lemon juice, olive oil, mint and lemon zest and any additional ingredients you've added. Top each serving with a pinch or two of cheese and enjoy!

Color Me Styled - Lake House Style

This weekend we are going with our friends to a lake house in Northpoint, MI. The 7 of us will be cooking out, visiting local wineries and taking long walks on the beach.

For the weekend away I plan to wear cropped jeans, comfy sweatshirt tops and sperry topsiders. My sister-in-law gave my mother-in-law this beach bag from Loft for Mother's Day and I am going to snag one for myself!

The point of the weekend is to relax and enjoy the company of our friends. And a lot of snacks and wine.

Someone has also made the promise of s'mores.

The time of year has come for afternoons, outdoors, in the park. The perfect way to spend that afternoon is with a picnick!

This weekend would have been a bit chilly for it but plan a picnick for next weekend when the highs are in the 70s for Chicagoland.

Picnick perfect foods are easy to pack, don't need to stay too hot or cold to be enjoyed (safely) and are easy to eat. Finger sandwiches, salads and finger fruits are best. Bottled water, izzie pops and lemonades are best for beverages.

Grab a blanket, a couple of books, a portable radio or non-internet capable iPod and speakers. Most importantly, grab a main squeeze, bestie and / or furry friend to spend the afternoon with!

Color Me Styled - Happy Mother's Day

Relationships with our Mother's range from fantastic to frenzied and sometimes both. Mother's have a way of knowing us better than we know ourselves... maybe because eventually, we become them.

Which is super annoying.

This Mother's Day take the time to thank your Mom for the good and the not as good that you've inherited from her. And write a really nice note in her card. If you can't be with your Mom this weekend be sure to call her and talk to her for as long as she wants. It is her day.

Ask what she was doing with her life when she was your age. You'll find it interesting to compare what you're up to and what she did at that time. Was she already married with children (you)? Was she finishing graduate school? Was she living somewhere interesting?

Ask to see pictures of her at your age. You'll be surprised by the fashions, the hair and the make-up choices that were right on the mark back then!

Just have a fun weekend together. And, make plans to do it more often than just once a year on Mother's Day. Plan a monthly movie date. Or a weekend road trip together later this summer. Actually take the time to properly teach her how to use Facebook, Pinterest and / or her iPhone.

It is the small things that count and expecially for Mother's Day, make the extra effort to thank her and maker her feel special!

What is better than a handbag that is hand crafted, in a simple and classic silhouette but has a unique element to make it stand out from the rest?

Nothing. That’s right. Nothing is better than that. And it totally describes my approach to my wardrobe (minus the hand crafted part… although I have a few one-of-a-kind pieces).

Color Me Cultured - The Great Gatsby - Part 2

The Great Gatsby hits theaters on Friday so here is the final installment of our book club responses.

Contributing to the book club discussion this time is Pat, my mother, Sue, my mother-in-law, Katie C, my sister-in-law, Katie G of Dream Till Green and our in-house literary expert, Meredith.

The gals answered 4 questions last week which you can read here: Color Me Cultured - The Great Gatsby - Part 1

I know a few bloggers out there are reading the book right now (Sara and The Everygirl) so I've put in a jump break so you don't have your opinions spoiled. But please come back and answer these questions for us too so we know what you think!

Q5: Think about the two worlds, the Midwest and the East, as Fitzgerald describes them, and what they represent for Nick and for Gatsby. Compare and contrast Gatsby's social class with that of Tom and Daisy Buchanan. How does geography contribute to the definition of social class in The Great Gatsby?

Pat: Midwest : more grounded, thoughtful, East Coast: Racy, Rich. Nick had Midwest as base to work from East Coast as stepping stone toward goals while Gatsby's Midwest was world of no future to be forgotten, East Coast was his land of dreams. The social class Tom & Daisy is traditional with a house bought by Family Money. Gatsby's more flashy even though he is rich and he seems empty and longing to fit in with the East Egg money. Basically geography = social class.

Sue: East Egg and West Egg represent the two social classes. Nick and Gatsby live in the less fashionable West Egg, while Tom and Daisy live in the most affluent East Egg. Gatsby does everything he can to impress Daisy with his affluence (the house, the parties, the cars, the shirts), but he will always be from the West Egg, and consequently never good enough for her. As the story is told, you see that he was brought up in a poor family, and even though he acquired a lot of money,he can never attain the status of the East Egg. Daisy's husband Tom is from the affluent East Egg, but he is having an affair with a woman from the West Egg...I think this demonstrates his selfishness in wanting to have it all, and really not caring that he is cheating on Daisy.

Katie G: I think we're supposed to feel that Gatsby's social class is more elite than Tom and Daisy's. How can the Midwest ever be so fabulous as the East Coast? (I think that's what Fitzgerald was implying). The Midwest is full of farms whereas the East Coast has the water, the big cities, the cars, etc. I think once you make it, you're supposed to go to the East Coast...in this book anyway.

Meredith: Gatsby's fortune is self made where as Tom and Daisy are from old money. They have no known no other way than wealth and all of its implications where as Gatsby has seen all different forms of wealth. Tom and Daisy are respected wealth because it is generational whereas Gatsby's wealth is flighty and considered to not be dependable given its infancy. Just as New York was a respected area of wealth and prosperity, the Midwest is considered second best the place for life. Wealth in the Midwest is second best to wealth in the east, in fact a wealthy person in the Midwest would likely be considered poor in the East.

Erin: East Egg vs West Egg - west is where Gatsby (a poser) and Nick (a tag-a-long) live. They are close to the wealth and prominence of East Egg but still not a part of it. Fitzgerald makes it seem like anyone in the Midwest is dying to get to the East to prove their lot. If you're not interested in going East you're a simpleton.

Q6: Has your opinion of Jay Gatsby changed since the beginning of the novel?

Pat: by the end of the novel my opinion changed to seeing him as a lost soul, a ghost, a nonentity.

Sue: My opinion of Gatsby changes to one of pity by the end of the book. I think he truly loved Daisy and she did not really love him...and he realized that no matter what he did or what he acquired, he could not be with her. He still fooled himself that she loved him, but she and Tom left town and never looked back.... leaving tragedy and death in their wake.

Katie C: My opinion of Gatsby shifted several times. In the beginning, intrigued. Who is this guy? He seems lonely, with many acquaintances, but wealthy, and poses the question of whether wealth really guarantees happiness. Then we sort of feel bad for him after witnessing that super awkward scene at Nicks house when he reunites with Daisy... how is he SO socially awkward? But he's so in love, and it's sort of notebook-esque, like when Ryan Gosling spends every waking hour on that house for Rachel McAdams, in the hope that she will find him again... but not as endearing. More creepy. And then watching him with Daisy, in front of Tom (as horrible as Tom is), you just think, "he's as bad as the rest of them." I liked Gatsby better when he was a mystery.

Katie G: My opinion only changed to the put that I think he's a little crazy. Once I figured out that he's had this grand scheme for awhile, I think he is in fact a little twisted. But a part of me thinks that if you're searching for the love of your life again, you'd do something similar.

Meredith: In the beginning I was intrigued, now I have nothing but pity. Pity for his final position in life and pity that he never got what he truly wanted and strove for in life. Sadly the only silver lining is that before his unpleasant ending it seems Gatsby came to terms with his position in Daisy's life.

Erin: Yes, it has sunk. At the beginning he seemed like a guy that wanted to be a part of the social scene and contribute to the party season but by the end of the novel I find him cowardly, unintelligent and totally self involved.

Q7: What is the American Dream? How does Gatsby represent this dream? Has the American dream changed since Gatsby's time?

Pat: The American Dream is to be able to achieve whatever you can dream. Gatsby believed in dreams, even lost dreams and he represents the dream in the book. I think the American Dream still exists but is tempered by reality, economy, race and gender still play a factor.

Sue: The American Dream in this story is to have a lot of money and live a very happy life with a big house, fancy cars, etc. This book was written in a time shortly after the War, and I think the entire society was ready to forget the dark days of sacrifice and the tragedy of war, and ready to focus on acquiring "things" that made them feel rich. This American dream of having a house and cars, etc remains today. However, I am starting to see the upcoming generations focusing on living a simpler life that is more focused on a loving family and giving back to society and less focused on the size of their house.

Katie G: I took a course in college where we discussed the American Dream for two weeks and let me tell you, the fact of the matter is that the American Dream is different for everyone. I think as a society, we accept the thought that the Dream is to be successful in what we want to do. I think Gatsby shows that dreams can come true. Yes, there's tragedy in his dream, but there's always going to be some rough patches in the path of attaining your dreams. I think the American Dream is still the same today as it was in Gatsby time. There's still people throwing their money away for big parties, elaborate houses, impeccable clothes. It's all about working toward being successful at attaining your dreams no matter who you are or what background you come from.

Meredith: Gatsby has everything, and the money to buy anything else he might need. Written before the great depression, Fitzgerald captures the extravagance of the twenties, where there was no fear of failure or losing your money. Given that today we are coming out of the second worst economic time, after the Great Depression which shortly followed the story of Gatsby I would have to say that the American Dream is not nearly as elegant and is more centered on finding value in what we already have, keeping our homes and establishing some sort of future for ourselves. The characters in Gatsby still represent an anomaly to the people of America today.

Erin: I think Gatsby demonstrates the romanticised American Dream. The "true" American Dream (if it exists anymore) is to be able to create a better life for yourself and your family through hard work. Everyone always wants a "Get Rich Quick" scheme but forgets that the American Dream is about the effort, dedication and entrepreneurship. But, Gatsby was happy living his version because it wasn't about a better life for him... it was about getting Daisy.

Q8: What do you think gives this book its longevity? What makes "The Great Gatsby" a classic work of fiction?

Pat: Maybe because it has an unclear, mysterious character . It invites you to picture a time that seems " real" , romanticizing it. It has a lot of elements. Love, tragedy, yet nothing concrete. Each emotion was at like 80%. I think it's interesting that this was offered as part of Junior Year in High School... How did the teenage mind react to this?

Sue: I think this is a classic work of fiction because it is a tragic story that addresses the myths about the classes in our society. There have always been classes in our society...classes based on wealth, color, religion. This story illustrates how true happiness is not based on your class, and that the acquisition of wealth will not necessarily make you happy.

Katie C: It is a beautifully written book, and I definitely didn't appreciate that when I was forced to read it in 8th grade. While its short, its deep...and these questions are great, and I am still pondering the meaning of it all... especially after realizing that these people are my age. Its just gives me a very different perspective. This book is a page turner... and not the Jodi Picoult page turner that you can read while an SVU marathon is playing in the background, either. You really have to hang on every word, and every sentence... which just makes the story that much more memorable and exciting.

Katie G: I think the Great Gatsby has longevity because Fitzgerald did an amazing job developing all the characters and story lines. Yes, the writing structure can get a little confusing at times, but it's an amazing story. It has poor and rich people, parties, booze, love affairs, New York City, crazy people, a puppy, nice cars, etc. There's also a lot of symbolism in this book that teachers love to teach. I remember the first time I read this book in high school and I thought it was more of a chore to read, but now I love it. You can literally take a month to read this book if you wanted to figure out what everything stands for. It's a classic work of fiction because it's fake. I love how, in at least my version, that is points out all of the mistakes Fitzgerald makes in his writing of this book. Not all the geography is right and the grammar is pretty bad as well. But, I think the best part is that every type of person can fantasize about being in this book and living there lives. That's how you know a book is good and it will stand the ages of time.

Meredith: I think a lot of people can relate to loving someone as much as Gatsby loves Daisy, and holding on to lost opportunity. I think we can all think of a time when we didn't speak up to keep someone we love in our lives or when our circumstance prevented us from feeling as though we deserve the love we received. Add in the pomp and circumstance of the rich and famous (which is a concept that while ever evolving stands the test of time as well). There is also the love hate relationship of the antihero who you want to cheer for but also who has questionable moral character of his own, given how he goes about trying to win back Daisy.

Erin: Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby in a way where we, as the reader, through Nick the narrator had to fill in some of the blanks of each character. This makes the characters real to us and forces us to relate them to real people in our lives. When I read this 10 years ago in high school (okay, when I read the cliff notes version) I related the characters differently. Now that I've read it again there is a depth of each personality that I didn't know before. I plan to read it again in a few years and reflect back on how my opinion has yet again changed.

Going into the weekend I had the best intentions for a super productive Sunday. Come Sunday, all I wanted to do was lounge on my sofa.

So, I did.

It felt nice to just chill out. The windows open, re-runs on TV and zero productivity. There was a little cleaning and then cooking dinner (grilled shrimp tacos for Cinco de Mayo) but I excerted next to no effort the rest of the day.

It is something that I recommend to do once every couple of months. Let yourself off the hook and just chill out.

It doesn't make getting up for work any easier on Monday however.

Woof.

April has come and gone and it seems like a blur!

I started the month with some travel and a couple parties and then ended the month with some travel so I can see why I felt like it flew by.

And I can also see why my resolution check in is going to be not-so-great this time around. But I have to check in nonetheless.

First resolution was to loose weight, and, yeah, I didn't do so hot in that category. I put on the weight that I had lost on the crash diet in March and I think a lot of it was due to following my diet only 40% of the time. I worked out more on the whole but I ate worse. It has to be both together.

For finances we did what we were supposed to and are on plan. I am SO tempted by online shopping and the lure of new things that I have to constantly remind myself that it is a slippery slope and that I don't really need those items. With summer and warm weather on the horizon I'll want to get new clothing, especially sandals, so I need to start to plan now for what I want to acquire over the next two months.

Blog goals are still in the shameless self promotion phase. I had a stroke of good fortune when I was pictured in Chicago Style Magazine from the Chicago Blogger Network Oscar party at Nellcote. I handed out several business cards and chatted with fellow bloggers. May is my planning month and I am going to put in a lot of effort to publicize myself, collaborate with other bloggers and reach out to brands. I see a lot of emails and tweets in my future.

Professionally I have continued to make strong connections and am working to maintain that network. I have been given an opportunity to lead a project and will be meeting with the team for our first progress session on Friday. I'm not saying no to anything at this point, I have to keep on learning.

Mini resolutions (removing make-up, blow-drying hair, getting back to set and reading before bed) are semi on track. I'm doing well with the hair and getting back to set but removing make-up or reading isn't happening as often. I think I might start removing my make-up as soon as I walk in the door. One less thing to do before bed.

I ended last month's check in with a plea to Mother Nature to stop it with the 30 degree temperatures... she listened. However, instead of spending our warm hint of summer nights out at a bar or restaurant like we would have in the past, both Dan and I have gone for runs this week. It stinks, but feels good.

Color Me Cultured - The Great Gatsby - Book Club Part One

I know it hasn't exactly been "reading weather" lately but we must focus up nonetheless. The Great Gatsby is coming to theatres in a couple of weeks! You could go into it not knowing the story at all, or just knowing what you remember from junior high, or you could read along with us as we explore the depths of this American classic.

Contributing to the book club discussion this time is Pat, my mother, Sue, my mother-in-law, Katie C, my sister-in-law, Katie G of Dream Till Green and our in-house literary expert, Meredith.

I also asked John, my father-in-law, if he wanted to read along and here's his review of the work.

"The Great Gatsby is a story about love, deception, greed, lust and unbridled enthusiasm. You see, Erin, Jay Gatsby was a simple country boy… some might say a cockeyed optimist, who got mixed up in the high stakes game of world diplomacy and international intrigue. That’s what led to Jay Gatsby’s downfall."

And now, to our panel of ladies who read the novel and have shared their take on each question.

Q1: Who is Jay Gatsby? What are your first impressions?

Pat: My first impression of Gatsby was that he's a " rich social misfit"

Sue: Jay Gatsby is a complete mystery man...lots of money, but very unapproachable....and frankly, as a reader, I never really connected with him at all. You know he has a super fantastic home and puts on these wild parties, but he doesn't even seem to even partake in he parties..he likes to observe other people (many of whom were not even invited by him) enjoy all of his money...very odd.

Katie C: a Mystery. Capital M. A mystery to his readers, a mystery to his guests, a mystery to his neighbors. First impressions, of course. An obviously wildly wealthy man, who throws gigantic parties but may or may not have any close friends. But his house is beautiful. And so is his car. And his lawn. When I pictured him in the beginning, I pictured Robert Redford... then after we got to know him a bit, I pictured Leonardo DiCaprio. Hmmm...

Katie G: He's a mysterious wealthy man. My first impression is that he is misunderstood. Everyone thinks he's a murderer, but I like to give characters a chance, so I never believed that. I just thinks it's weird that no one really knows anything about him.

Meredith: Jay Gatsby is almost too good to be true when you first hear about him, and then upon first meeting him (prior to Nick actually meeting him) he seems like a man whom despite having everything actually has nothing as he stands out in his backyard away from the party going on at his house, reaching across the lake to a light on the other side.

Erin: He is a man who tries to create an atmosphere of busy, amusement in hopes that his planning and party throwing will distract his singularly focused mind. He wants to be the talk of the town but remain a mystery because he as a person isn't incredibly interesting.

Q2: What is Nick Carraway's role in the novel? Consider Nick's father's advice in chapter one: "Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had." Does telling the story from Nick's point of view make it more believable? What are our narrator's motivations? Why is he telling us this story?

Pat: Nick seemed based in Reality, observer of life/people. As the narrator I trusted his storytelling because I thought he was kind of normal. His Dad's advice sounds practical but gives Nick an " out" from judgment against the social more's. I found him somewhat believable but having gaps in reasoning.

Sue: Nick is narrator and observer of the entire story...the story is told from his perspective. Nick came from a well-to-do midwestern family, but relative to the money in the East, he was considered poor. I think this is a story about mis-judging people --based on the amount of money they have, the color of their skin, their religious views. I think telling the story from Nick's point of view does make it more believable, because he is able to act as the observer of all of the drama that goes on...he lives on the edge of it, and never really becomes part of the drama. I believe he is telling the story to reinforce with the reader that having alot of money does not take away your past problems and does not mean you live a perfect life-yet so many people are desperately reaching for the affluent life.

Katie C: narrator, story teller, novice, friend of mine (could be?) voice of reason. I find his fathers statement, after witnessing the wealth on the East and West Egg, rather ironic. Nick, who lives in a small modest house, who makes a modest living, living amongst the richest of the rich on long island. And HES had advantages? Nicks thoughts are all of our thoughts as were reading this book, and reading Daisy's narcissism, and Tom's arrogance, and Gatsby's wealth. Hes like one of us. Just watching from the outside.

Katie G: Nick Carraway is the voice of the novel. We are experiencing everything through his eyes and mind. I do believe that Nick's point of view makes everything more believable. I think Fitzgerald did a good job developing Nick's character into a person that the reader can trust. He's a good Midwestern guy that's gone to Yale and fought in the war. What more of a golden guy can he be? I think Nick is telling us this story to show us how crazy love can be and how crazy wealthy people can be.

Meredith: Nick's purpose is to make all the eccentricity relate-able. He provides a link between the real world and the people of East and West Egg. He is inserted as the narrator of this story to give everyone a chance despite their flaws. He sees the best in people and was raised to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. He made Daisy intoxicating instead of obnoxious, Tom was successful instead of an abusive bully, and Gatsby was a man of mystery instead of a self conscious control freak who used his money to get his way.

Erin: Nick serves as our outside-insider. I try to put myself into his shoes as he interacts with the characters throughout the novel which makes it more believable to me. Nick is a kind of middle-of-the-road, normal guy who is both impressed and appalled by the wealth around him. At the beginning of the story I thought Nick's father's advice was because Nick was well off and would have it easier throughout life but by the end I think the story begins with that quote because Nick had the advantage of a normal and adjusted upbringing. By the end of the story I was almost glad to be "normal" and not of East Egg money... I mean, I'd take it but I'm OK without.

Q3: Whom do you think the characters in The Great Gatsby represent? Do they seem like real people? Which characters seem the most real to you?

Pat: Characters represent the social classes portrayed as people. Most of them seemed real but a bit "over the top".

Sue: I think the characters represent the different classes of our society. I do think the characters seem like real people - blue collar and very affluent individuals.

Katie C: Its funny, because in the beginning, 1/3 of me wants to punch everyone in the face, 1/3 of me wants to hang out with them, and 1/3 of me wants to be a fly on the wall, which fortunately is what we get to be by reading this story. They are very real people. "The Buchanans" are "The Kardashians." No doubt that these people exist today in 2013.

Katie G: I don't know what the whom the characters represent, but I can tell you that they do seem like real people. I think Fitzgerald did a wonderful job developing all his characters. It's one of the best things about this book. No matter how crazy the storyline gets, you feel like you're there with the characters and you feel for them.

Meredith: Nick is the only character who seems real to me. As he works to take in all that is the people of East and West Egg, his inability to relate at times makes him someone the reader can in fact relate to. I think that each of the other characters in this book is meant to represent the elite of the elite, from the #1 athlete to untouchable business man who could get away with murder if he wanted to. It's as if Fitzgerald is writing these characters from an outsider's perspective embellishing on their personalities because he knows not how they truly act and behave. But then again perhaps he knows this society so well that he is capable of pick apart their greatest faults, understand them, and they turn it against these people.

Erin: This could go a million different ways but I think the characters represent society at large while also each representing a personality trait. Tom is arrogant, Daisy, narcissistic, Jordan is proud, Gatsby is insecure. Each is an exaggerated version of people in your own life and it shows the positives and negatives of each trait.

Q4: What are your emotions towards Daisy throughout the story?

Pat: I can never get behind her. She's just too much for me. She treats the other characters poorly and I do feel bad at the beginning when we learn about Tom's affair but she knows about it and isn't standing up for herself so I can't support her.

Sue: I never really connect with Daisy, and by the end of the book, see that she is really a flawed individual... she cares more about herself than anyone else, and is desperately trying to live an affluent lifestyle. You see little glimpses of a softer side in her love for Gatsby, but she "ditches" him early in her life and again after the accident. She does not truly love him enough to give up her lifestyle.

Katie C: What a narcissistic, sad, beautiful B*. I hate her, I love her, I feel bad for her. (Beginning, middle, end).

Katie G: For me, Daisy just seems like a hot mess. All I envision is a fabulously dressed woman who doesn't know how to handle men, money, or love. Sometimes you fantasize about being a wealthy person who goes to parties and dresses impeccably, but this girl has it wrong. When I start to read more about the love triangle I get annoyed with her.

Meredith: From the moment she enters the story I think she has received more than she deserves in life, never wanting for anything, and never learning what it means to work to achieve anything.

Erin: Love and hate. Sometimes I want to tip back a lemonade with her, others I want to flick her between the eyes. I felt sorry for her at the beginning and towards the end I am angry with her for everything.

I am a person who spends a lot of time with my head in the clouds. It usually is semi productive but I still pass away commutes, elevator rides and long showers day dreaming.

What do I day dream about? Travel, jobs, food, redecorating, shopping. Basically I have a scrolling Pinterest board that I am always racking through.

So when I came across this quote I had to take a moment and think. Yet again, Mrs. Roosevelt is correct and her infinite wisdom is timeless.

For my Merrier Monday I am going to take some of my day dreams and set up a couple of plans to achieve them. I'll focus on some of the smaller things. Like new recipes to try and redecorating the few spaces I have left.

Everyone loves monograms. With Mother's Day a few weeks away now is the time to order a monogrammed piece for Mom.

Lobster Printed Dress by Tibi

Tomorrow I am headed to Boston and I have not packed a single thing yet but I have at least 14 hours before we go. I'm not worried.

On Saturday night we are headed to the Red Sox game and it'll be my first time at Fenway Park. We're also looking into our options for a brewery and a history tour. If there was one that combined the two I'd be thrilled.

Most of the weekend will be jeans, T and sweater weather. I do wish that I had this Cape Cod appropriate dress from Tibi to pack along. It isn't supposed to be beach weather exactly but I am excited to get my beantown on none the less.

Chicago just can't make up its mind. It is one thing to swing from hot to cold every other day but lately she's been doing it all in one! This makes "what to wear" tricky because when you leave it could be in the 40s and then a few hours later we're pushing 70 degrees.

The key? Layers. But not just for the look, for the sake of temperature control. In the morning you'll need to be wearing a light / medium weight sweater or cardigan with a trench coat and a scarf. By late afternoon you can ditch the coat and scarf as needed.

Today we have Daniela with a guest post about skincare and the importance of Toner in your routine. Queue up some old Tony Orlando and Dawn tunes as you learn more about this beauty essential.

I had a colleague in Florida named Dawn. I say 'had', because this sweet, amazing woman sadly passed away last fall after a long time battle with cancer. May she rest peacefully and be a continued inspiration to her friends, family and skin care colleagues like me. Anyway, she had a set-up in Miami much like mine. Ok, so it’s not Orlando, but what else was I going to call this post considering it’s about toner? Anyway, so we were having this discussion here on Facebook about the role increased water consumption plays in the hydrating of skin when it’s lacking water. It got me thinking about toner and how most people are still unclear on what it does and why they should use it.

First, two facts about water consumption:

The skin is the last organ of the body to get any of the water you drink. By the time your skin is dried out by lack of water consumption, you’re so thirsty you’re practically dying. Overall, though, your skin gets enough water from your body to be properly held up and keep its shape, unless you don’t drink, like, ever.
The water that does get to the skin is held inside underneath the top layer within the collagen fibers that hold your skin up. This is why when there isn’t enough water held there, the result can be the appearance of dullness or ill health. Actual wrinkles happen when the collagen in your skin is literally destroyed, not because there isn’t enough water being held there. When it comes to surface dehydration, your skin needs water from outside.

Well it is just wet here in Chicago today. A lot of flooding, a lot of delays and grey skies as far as the eye can see. If you are lucky enough to be able to stay home today in the Chicago area do so, it is treacherous out there.

Even if you do have to come into the office today (just like me) take a few minutes around your lunch break or towards the end of the day or now, I mean, whenever you want really, to check out the blogs on my blogroll to the left. (keep scrolling)

I've divided it into two sections. First we have the Chicago Gals where I've got 17 of my favorites featured. I've at the very least met all of these ladies and have become pretty close with some of them! In the next couple of months I've got some exciting things planned for guest posts and other funtivities.

Then I've got the list of "Elsewhere" blogs. These are pretty big hitters and are on a lot of blogrolls out there but they are the blogs that inspire me and brighten my inbox, bloglovin' feed, facebook newsfeed and twitter homepage every day. I highly recommend visiting them.

Then at the top of the page right under the Color Me Styled header you'll notice a couple of tabs. First, "The Blog" which should be self explainatory but it is basically an easy way to get back to the homepage and most recent posts.

Next up is the "About Color Me Styled & The Team" here you'll be introduced to the mission of the blog and the Color Me Styled girl. Plus there are quick bios of our editors (a list which I will have a couple of additions soon).

Finally we have "The Shop" which is a place for you to brouse and buy some of the items I've been eyeing (and buying) lately. It changes at least once a week so continue to check back, pin and tweet your favorites and treat yo self!
