Okay, this is pretty cool, although I'm not quite sure how it works.

On NotCot, they mention that this bust, available in female or male versions, is covered with a chalkboard finish so it can be graffiti'd in whatever form you like.

However, when you check out the site itself, it looks like you're carving away the chalkboard finish to get at the chalk beneath and that's how you're doing the graffiti, as opposed to being able to scrawl on the chalkboard finish with, say, chalk.

Either way it's pretty cool. And you flip up the head and there's a button you press to get down to the cave that Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol uses as a headquarters.

Well, no, not that Obsidian. We're talking about his namesake. The volcanic rock that apparently was the subject of a recent lecture by an archaeologist at the University of Oregon.

By a special X-ray procedure archaeologists can match the mineral composition to a specific volcanic source in the Western United States. "And that allows us to track each individual artifact back to the exact location where it came from," he said. "And it's not uncommon in a particular site to find up to 30 or 40 obsidian sources represented there."

Crazy. But hey, it's black. And that's our jurisdiction.

Well, apart from a lot of stuff being black, this campaign is to educate kids on the importance of design and what design is.

This is crucial from a lot of different angles. I mean, not to sound like the cranky old man who complains that you're playing your ZZ Top too loud, but kids these days have so much that they've never been without that they have no idea how to envision a world without unlimited television channels or their MP3 player or cell phones. So to get them to consider that this stuff didn't just pop up like manna from heaven and instead needed a human hand to design and create it–I think that's brilliant. See more here.

You know, it seems that eventually we're going to get to the point where we have 8-bit everything. There was a tie made recently, now here's a watch. Does anybody have any pics of Halloween costumes where the people are 8-bit? Not just dressed like an 8-bit arcade character, but actually everything's blocky (except maybe not the skin, that would be rather…involved).

I just wonder. I'd want to go as the dude from Elevator Action, myself.
