This is to be my first real attempt at blogging, so it seems pertinent to explain why…

The reason is because I have an opinion on most things and I rarely share my thoughts with anybody, therefore, I’m going to share them with you. I think I’ve always been put off by the idea of ~~publishing my thoughts online~~ blogging for a number of reasons, but primarily because I didn’t think anybody would be interested. However, I’m seeing blogging as a different medium these days. In the advent of social networking, blogging looks more like a method to connect with like-minded people, probably already connected to me via other social sites. I see this now as ‘further reading’ for anybody who is interested enough in what they read on my Twitter or Facebook.

Tumblr seems like the ideal blogging tool for somebody like me. Instead of simply dumping my thoughts onto a page and hoping somebody will read it and it mean something to them, I can now dump my thoughts onto a page and connect to people via my existing social networks and insist it mean something to them. Tumblr also promotes the use of other mediums through which you can connect to an audience. Sharing video, sound and photographs is quick and easy and will certainly help keep me publishing content. Besides, I like the user interface.

One last thing. I’m not going to publish technical articles relating to my profession. I’ve got other plans to share that information in a dedicated place. This will be a place for sharing my perspective on the things that interest me outside of work.
