Columbia Center to host community donation drive December 3

(November 29, 2011) Mequon, Wis. — Columbia Center, a specialty birth hospital, will serve as a donation drop off location to benefit the seven Family Enrichment Center charities on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 9 a.m. to noon. Drive-up donation bins, complete with elves, will be available outside at the Columbia Center entrance.

(November 11, 2009) Mequon, Wis. — Columbia Center now has a total of three staffers with the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) designation.Ann Grauer, Columbia Center’s doula program coordinator and family educator, and Amy Ehrlich, registered labor and delivery nurse, both earned their IBCLC designations in October.Grauer and Ehrlich join Diane Oakland to form a team of three certified lactation consultants at Columbia Center, an intimate birth hospital in Mequon.

New parents at Columbia Center receive gift from educators

(October 2, 2008) Mequon, Wis. – More than 200 families with babies born at Columbia Center will receive a gift intended to promote literacy from the Ozaukee County chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a society of educators.The gifts, containing a blanket, a book and tips on reading to children, are made possible by grants from the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and Sigma State, the Wisconsin chapter of DKG. The gifts are part of a literacy project aimed at encouraging new parents to read to their infants.

Columbia Center wins top ratings in national report on patient perspectives of hospital care

(April 23, 2008) Mequon, Wis. – Columbia Center had top rankings on patient satisfaction scores in a recently released national report compared to other hospitals, both locally and nationally.Ninety-two percent of Columbia Center patients would recommend it to family and friends, well above the national average of 67% , the Wisconsin average of 71%, and the scores of other Milwaukee-area hospitals in the recently released Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores.(See accompanying graphs).

Oakland joins Deanne Lawson as the second International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) at Columbia Center, an intimate, boutique-style birthing center in Mequon.Lactation consultants provide breastfeeding assistance to mothers and infants. New, independent center opens adjacent to Columbia St. Mary's Hospital(June 21, 2007) Milwaukee, Wis. – Columbia Center, an independent birthing hospital, will move from Milwaukee to a newly constructed, state-of-the-art birthing hospital in Mequon on Oct. 1. Columbia Center will move to the Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee Campus on Port Washington Rd. Columbia Center Doula Fund provides doulas to disadvantaged women

(August 8, 2006) Milwaukee, Wis. – This May, Columbia Center began offering further aid to Milwaukee’s pregnant women when it established the Doula Fund, which can eliminate the cost of having a doula assisted birth. Columbia Center already subsidizes the cost of its doula program to make it more affordable. The Doula Fund now makes it possible for disadvantaged families to have a doula free of cost through a simple application form.A birth doula is a “person trained and experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth” according to DONA International, the world’s largest and fastest growing doula association. Over 5,500 DONA International certified doulas provide their services to families worldwide.

Big baby born at Columbia Center stars on Discovery Health Channel June 26

(June 21, 2006) Milwaukee, Wis. – Delaney Buzzell’s birth at Columbia Center a year ago caused a stir that is still going on today. At 13 pounds, 12 ounces, this unique newborn caught the attention of national and international news media, including the producers of the Discovery Health Channel’s Medical Incredible. It will feature Delaney’s birth in a segment to air at 8 p.m. Central Daylight Saving Time, tonight.The episode will air under the title "Joined for Life," which refers to another story in the program.When a film crew visited Columbia Center for the Feb. 11 shooting, a local doctor and nurses became actors, along with proud parents Robin and Paul Buzzell.
