Caring, loving, leadership, inspiring, strong, compassionate, joyful, faithful and serving are just a few words that come to mind when thinking of how we might describe Lyn, and yet we only met for a short amount of time. This is the kind of impression Lyn left with you. Meeting Lyn was a life changing experience. The stories that Lyn shared, and the one’s that we learnt from her friends and colleagues at HEAL Africa were truly inspiring. Lyn and her husband Dr Jo Lusi had committed to giving their lives to serving others. Together they have not only made an impact on the country they call their home, but they’ve impacted the lives of so many in the world by their example.

We spent a week at the residence of Jo and Lyn during our visit to Goma in February 2011 as we conducted research for our book Love in Action: HEAL Africa. We were able to interview Lyn and learn about her life’s work, to see the nation of DR Congo healed. We hope that in some small way our story can be a dedication to Lyn’s life work.

Lyn’s determination not to be distracted by illness, and her God-inspired heart for those in need fuelled her passion to keep on going to the very end of her life.

To Jo, family and friends of Lyn we offer our condolences, and pray that God’s love will be of comfort to you.

Lyn Lusi’s legacy will live on in the many thousands of lives that she inspired.

Social justice, climate change, global poverty, human rights, environmental conservation, disaster relief… There are so many causes to get behind, and this side of eternity theres no shortage of need in the world to partner alongside.

In recent weeks in my local area we’ve had talks, screenings and debates featuring topics on euthanasia, human trafficking, sex trade, same sex marriage and child soldiers. However it struck me that there isn’t anyone actually collating all these events and publishing them to one place in a calendar for people interested in discovering what’s on specifically within these categories of “issues” that as Christians we should be involved in or at least aware of.

What does it mean to be a Christian? Serving Jesus. Putting love into action.

Let me encourage you to get involved, stand up, speak up and of course most important of all, pray.

Check out our brand new calendar for events. Please email us if you have an event that you think we might want to post onto our noticeboard.

We’re interested in events happening within the categories described above happening in Australia.

During my travels I’m often struck by the strength, courage and ingenuity of the women that I’ve met. I have listened to stories from women that have been abused, raped and tortured, but even through these horrors they have found the strength to carry on. Some have become leaders in their communities and a source of encouragement for other women. Women are often the innovative, business building, community strengthening one’s that I see holding together the fragile developing-world society.

Today we stop for a moment to celebrate women.

I’d like to point to two stories. One is of the women that are being healed, or have been healed through the work of HEAL Africa in DR Congo. There you will hear stories of women – nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, community health workers and office workers who are serving to help bring healing to a nation.

The second story is of a tragedy in our world where women are being enslaved and trafficked to fuel the international sex industry. There are many good causes seeking to bring an end to this injustice, but I would like to bring to your attention one ministry in particular, Exodus Cry, who have recently launched an insightful documentary, Nefarious, that shows in-depth how this industry is continuing to damage the lives of women today.

Please take a moment to read these stories, and please help by sowing into their ministries where you can.
