Numerology is a belief system that assigns numerical values to letters in order to derive insights about one’s personality, destiny, or life path. It is often associated with the occult, astrology, and other forms of divination. It is often used as a tool for self-discovery and understanding of the universe’s energy. Some spiritual beliefs attribute a divine significance to numbers and their patterns, which can be used to gain insight into the nature of the universe and our place in it.

Numerology is believed to have originated from ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Greece, and China. People believe in it because it suggests that there is a relationship between numbers and the events and characteristics of our lives. Some people find it helpful for gaining insight into their personality, making decisions, and predicting the future. However, its scientific validity is not supported by mainstream science. Numerology in Chinese culture is very popular is the Chinese believe the symbolism of numbers have a direct influence on human life. They believe that each number has a unique vibration of energy and significance that can affect a person’s destiny and personality.

Numerology is used world-wide by people who believe that numbers have a special significance and can provide insights into their lives. Some people also use numerology to help them make important decisions or to gain a better understanding of their personality traits and life path. Many people use numerology in their everyday life and business, including spiritual practitioners, entrepreneurs, and individuals seeking personal growth and self-awareness. The benefits of using numerology include gaining insight into one’s personality, strengths, weaknesses, and life purpose, as well as understanding the energetic vibrations of numbers and how they can affect different areas of life. Numerology can also be used to make important decisions, choose auspicious dates or numbers, and enhance relationships and communication.

What are numerology lifepaths?

Numerology lifepaths are based on a person’s birthdate and are believed to offer insight into their life’s purpose and personality traits. To calculate your lifepath you need to add up all numbers of your birthdate. E.g. 20/10/1946 = 2+0+1+0+1+9+4+6 = 23 = 2+3 = 5. You are a 23/5 lifepath.

Below are brief descriptions and meaning of each lifepath:

1 – Individuality, leadership, independence (Leader, Pioneer)

2 – Cooperation, harmony, diplomacy
(Supporter, Peacemaker, Diplomat)

3 – Expression, creativity, communication
(Performer, Artist, Creative)

4 – Stability, practicality, organization
(Planner, Heart Healer)

5 – Freedom, change, adaptability
(Communicator, Rebel)

6 – Service, responsibility, nurturing
(Harmoniser, Visionary)

7 – Introspection, analysis, spiritual awareness
(Spiritual Teacher)

8 – Ambition, power, financial success
(Boss, Authoritarian)

9 – Humanitarianism, compassion, idealism (Humanitarian, Old Soul)

Master lifepath numbers in numerology

In numerology, special lifepath numbers are those that are believed to have a unique significance or meaning. Some of the most commonly recognized special numbers include 11, 22, 33 and now 44, which are known as Master Numbers. These numbers are thought to possess powerful spiritual and mystical qualities, and they are often associated with heightened intuition, creativity, and spiritual awareness.

Lifepath 11s are Spiritual Messengers here to build bridges to connect heaven and earth. They are here to lead leaders and teach teachers and they are here to collaborate with others, not compete. My mentor and numerologist Sarah Yip says that this lifepath looks like trees standing tall or a gateway or peace sign. This lifepath is not only inspiring, but they have this electric style aura that attracts people. They are also very psychic, if they know it or not. This lifepath is here to heal their 1st base or root chakra and their 2nd sacral chakra.

Lifepath 22s are the Master Builders of relationships and opportunities. Their lifepath is based on service that includes sensitivity and practicality. They are also strategic and disciplined in their craft. They are meticulous in planning and are devoted to the cause. They are here to create a legacy. Sarah Yip likens this lifepath to 2 swans which encompasses harmony. This lifepath is here to heal their 2nd sacral chakra and also their 4th heart chakra.

Lifepath 33s are seen as the Master Healers and they are gifted as speakers and authority figures. They are here as a catalyst for global awakening. This lifepath are courageous and often seen as the whistle-blowers and cheerleaders who are here to awaken us all.

Sarah Yip likens this lifepath to looking like a butterfly or 4 leaf clover (if you reverse one of the 3s). This lifepath creates good luck from positive intentions and manifestation. They are here to heal their 3rd solar plexus chakra and 6th third eye chakra.

Lifepath 44s are Master Manifestors and are here to express double heart connections with the world. They are a big picture authority figure, much like lifepath 8s as 4+4 = 8. They are here to experience material and spiritual success. This lifepath are fighters for justice, they are resilient and resourceful, most of all very influential. My mentor and numerologist Sarah Yip says this lifepath looks like a fleet of ships sailing and therefore they are always taking action to lead us all to long-term victory. This lifepath are here to heal their 4th heart chakra and their 8th Karmic/Aura chakra.

How often should you get a numerology reading or report completed and what is included in such a reading or report?

The frequency of getting a numerology reading or report is up to your own personal preference. However, it is recommended to do it at least once a year, especially before or around your birthday, to gain insight into your current life path and upcoming personal year and pinnacles. A typical numerology reading includes information about your life path number, personality traits, strengths, weaknesses, and potential challenges. It may also provide guidance on how to use your strengths to achieve your goals and overcome your challenges.

Using or understanding Numerology can provide the following benefits:

Self-awareness and personal growth

Insight into personality traits and tendencies

Guidance in making important life decisions

Understanding of relationships and compatibility with others

Greater sense of purpose and direction in life

What celebrities or famous business people use numerology?

It is difficult to determine which celebrities or famous business people use numerology, as this is often kept private. However, some individuals who have publicly expressed an interest in numerology include Oprah Winfrey, Jay-Z, and Shakira.

In the realm of spiritual and healing practices, a buzz has been growing around Human Design. Many healers and alternative health practitioners are incorporating this system into their work to provide clients with a deeper understanding of themselves.

There appears to be a lot of talk in the spiritual and healing space about Human Design lately. It seems a lot of healers and alternative health practitioners are using it to help their clients understand themselves better. I know as a Reiki/Crystal Healer and Numerologist I have become curious about this method, so I thought I would delve deeper to learn more about this system and share the information with our readers.

So, what is Human Design?

Human Design is a relatively new system that was first introduced in the 1980s. It combines elements of astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah, and the Hindu-Brahmin chakra system and quantum physics to create a personalized chart that provides insights into an individual’s unique characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses. The system gained popularity in the 1990s and has continued to grow in popularity due to its unique approach to understanding human behaviour and decision-making. Its popularity may also be attributed to the growing interest in self-discovery and personal growth practices.
The Human Design chart is based on your birth information, a bit like your Astrology chart and provides insights into your personality, strengths, weaknesses, and life path. It can be used as a tool for personal growth and self-discovery. From this chart you will be identified as one of 5 different human design personality types: Manifestor, Generator, Projector, Reflector, and Manifesting Generator. Each type has its own unique characteristics and ways they interact with the world.
I thought it would be great to share the characteristics of each personality type, so you can see if you identify with one, then if you wish to learn more you can reach out to someone trained in Human Design to create your own chart to confirm.

Manifestor

The human design profile of a Manifestor is characterized by their ability to initiate action and bring ideas into reality. They have a strong sense of independence and are often seen as natural leaders. Manifestors are also known for their ability to create impact and influence others, but they may sometimes struggle with feeling misunderstood or isolated.

Generator

The human design profile of a Generator is characterized by having a defined sacral centre, which gives them a strong life force energy and a natural ability to respond to the world around them. They are also often very skilled at using their energy to complete tasks and work hard towards their goals. However, they may struggle with feeling stuck or frustrated if they are not able to use their energy in a productive way. Overall, generators tend to be driven, hardworking, and responsive individuals.

Projector

As per Human Design, Projectors tend to have a natural ability to guide and manage others. They tend to have a penetrating and focused energy that can make them highly effective in their work. Projectors often excel at recognizing opportunities and the potential in others, but they may need to wait for the right invitations to fully express their gifts. Some other characteristics of Projectors include being observant, strategic, and sensitive to the energy of others.

Reflector

The reflector is a human design profile that represents about 1% of the population. Reflectors tend to be highly sensitive to their environment and the people around them, which can make them excellent judges of character. They are also known for their ability to reflect the energy of those around them, which can make them very adaptable to different situations. Reflectors are often very good at seeing things from multiple perspectives, and they tend to be very open-minded and curious. Additionally, reflectors may take longer than other types to make decisions or come to conclusions, as they need time to process and reflect.

Manifesting Generator

The Manifesting Generator human design profile is a combination of the Generator and Manifestor profiles, which means they have traits of both. Some of the characteristics include a strong life force energy, the ability to respond quickly to opportunities, multitasking abilities, a need for variety and stimulation, and a tendency to skip steps or take shortcuts to achieve their goals. They are also known for their efficiency and creativity.

How do you work out which human design profile you are?

To determine your Human Design profile, you will need to know your birth date, time, and location. Then, you can use a Human Design chart calculator or consult with a Human Design analyst to interpret your chart and determine your profile. The human design professionals who are trained specifically in how to create a human design chart. They have undergone specialized training and certification in order to provide accurate and insightful readings based on the principles of human design.
Online human design programs can also be useful for getting a general understanding of your chart if you are just curious, but if you want a more detailed analysis done using a professional human design professional may be better option as they are equipped to provide a more personalized and in-depth reading of your chart. Ultimately, it depends on your personal preferences and the level of detail you are seeking

How do I find someone trained in Human Design?

There are several ways to find someone trained in Human Design. One option is to search for certified Human Design analysts or practitioners on the International Human Design School website (https://www.ihdschool.com/). You can also search social media platforms, such as Instagram or Facebook, using relevant hashtags like #humandesign or #humandesignreader to find practitioners who offer services. Additionally, you can ask for referrals from friends or family members who have worked with a Human Design practitioner in the past.

When it comes to alternative medicine, healing crystals have captured the attention of many, transcending their once-hippie associations to become a mainstream trend.

Crystal clear

When it comes to alternative medicine, healing crystals are the latest treatment gaining favour.

Once synonymous with the hippie lifestyle, the crystal healing craze has gone mainstream.
Fashion icon Victoria Beckham swears by the alluring magical powers of beautiful rocks.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B3HbRSkJlH2/?utm_medium=copy_link
Bohemian babe Kate Hudson infuses her moisturiser with stones to release good vibes.
Katy Perry, Kylie Jenner, and Miranda Kerr are also all big fans.
So, with celebrities on board, and crystals now at the fashion forefront, we decided to check out what this new fad is all about.

What is crystal healing?

Crystal healing is an alternative technique where different minerals and gemstones are used to harness the earth’s energy and redirected it to cure and protect the mind and body.
An array of crystals are used depending on what mental and physical ailments are the issue, including anxiety, pain, fatigue, and skin conditions, says Holistic healer Merendi Leverette.
“It’s all about using energy healing, and a lot of people might be a bit sceptical about that, but for other people having crystals placed on them, they really respond to that. “It’s not just about physical healing. It’s also about self healing. Crystals are tangible, and they can really help people calm down and become more centred.”
Commonly crystals are used by holding them while meditating. Wearing them on jewellery or in clothes has also become popular.
Many crystal lovers also like to have larger pieces around the home.
As a general rule, Leverette says the colour of crystals align with the colours of the chakra.
“So, if you want to feel grounded things like black tourmaline, tigers’ eye, anything in those earth tones,” she says.
“Heart chakra is always associated with the colours green and pink so, malachite or rose quartz are common ones for this.”
Amethyst helps ease anxiety, and yellow, orange, and red coloured stones are suitable for healing your sexual energy, she adds.
Generally, people use smaller stones known as tumblers. But rocks also come in palm stones, spheres, and towers.

Crystal connection

Among the crystal converts is Geelong-based fashion stylist Renee Enright.
For years she’s been collecting stones of all shapes and sizes, attracted to their beauty and benefits.
“I started with bigger statement pieces around the home and have since come to rely on them for a multitude of reasons,” she says.
“I tend to wear smaller stones on my body – in my bra or carry in my handbag or clothing – usually when I’m feeling like I need extra support emotionally, mentally, or facing a situation that may feel overwhelming, or that would generally lead to nervous tension and anxiousness.
“I find crystals work to balance out my energy and give me a sense of calm and control.”
When asked about how she responds to the sceptics, Renee says crystals are not for everyone.
“Like any good debate, I would say their opinions are valid. If it’s not your thing, it’s not your thing.”

The rocky details

While crystal healing has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, this alternative treatment won’t cure cancer or help perform miracles.
Leverette explains crystal healing is more about emotional and spiritual wellbeing rather than being a direct treatment for serious sickness and disease.
“Crystal healing or any alternative healing, in general, doesn’t work in isolation,” she says.
“It’s definitely something to use complementary to Western medicine.”
It’s a view shared by Royal Australian College of General Practitioners President Dr Karen Price, who warns against believing any practitioners claiming crystals can cure serious problems.
“I wish I could tell you that crystal healing is the path to better health and wellbeing, but I am afraid medicine is not that easy,” she says.
“Crystal healing is nothing but pseudoscience and has no proven therapeutic benefits. Maybe it looks nice from an aesthetic point of view, but it is similar to a rainbow. Crystals, like rainbows, have a solid scientific explanation – but neither of these have healing properties with the exception of aesthetic appeal and hope.”

Chakras, the energetic centers within our bodies, play a vital role in maintaining spiritual, emotional, and physical balance.

Chakras are the centres of our soul energy and consciousness within our physical body. They help balance our spiritual, emotional, and physical senses. The chakras are where the energy of the body concentrates and the concept of chakras comes from the idea that all life is made up of both a physical and an energetic body. There are 7 main chakras that line up along the spine from the base of your pelvis to the top of the head.

Having balanced chakras means you are free from energetic blockages, which allows the energy to flow through easily through the body, leading to a harmonious and balanced life.

The 7 main chakras are the main energy centres within the body;

Root/Base – foundation, grounding

Sacral – emotions, creativity, sexual energy

Solar Plexus – ability to be confident, control of life, express your true self

Heart – bridge between the lower chakras (materiality) and the upper chakras (spirituality), deep compassion & empathy

Throat – gives you your voice, personal power, expression

3rd Eye – big picture, intuition, eye of the soul

Crown – fully connected spiritually, higher consciousness

All chakras are associated with a colour or colours;

Root/Base – Red, Brown Black (EARTH)

Sacral – Orange (Water)

Solar Plexus – Yellow (FIRE)

Heart – GREEN/PINK (AIR)

Throat – Light Blue/Turquoise (SOUND)

3rd Eye – Dark Blue/Purple (LIGHT)

Crown – Violet/White

Numerology can also be associated with the Chakra too and knowing this can add an extra element to when you are looking to perform a chakra balancing;

Root/Base (1)

strong will, positivity, pure energy, purity, aggression, ambition, creation, motivation.

Sacral (2)

kindness, balance, tact, equalization, quiet power of judgment, communication.

Solar Plexus (3)

magic, intuition, fertility, expression, versatility, joy of creativity.

Heart (4)

stability, grounding. four seasons, four directions, four elements all these amazingly powerful essences wrapped up in the nice square package of Four. Fours represent solidity, calmness, and home.

Throat (5)

motion, instability and unpredictability, wild vibrations: primitive, erratic., action, expansion, adventure.

3rd Eye (6)

harmony, balance, sincerity, love, truth, enlightenment

Crown (7)

magical forces, mystery, activation of imagination and manifestation.

There are also some signs or symptoms that your chakras are unbalanced and need re-balancing. These include the list below, but this is not an exhaustive list;

Dizziness,

Light headiness,

Stomach aches,

Bowel issues,

Unsteady on feet/tripping over feet,

Headaches,

Anxiousness/nervousness,

Heart palpitations,

Sore throat,

Hoarse throat,

Losing your voice.

Listen to your intuition and your body and they will tell you if any signs or symptoms you are experiencing are the result of unbalanced chakras.

Your chakras are also associated with many different crystals due the colours they are linked to. Don’t overthink what crystal to use with what chakra when balancing your chakras, again listen to your intuition when choosing your crystals. Below is a list to give you some ideas of the type of crystals you can use for each chakra;

Root/Base – Hematite, BLACK ONXY OR Any Red, Brown OR Black crystal

Sacral – Tiger’s Eye or Any Orange Crystal

Solar Plexus – Amber, Citrine or any Yellow Crystal

Heart – Rose Quartz, Aventurine or any Green or Pink Crystal

Throat – Aquamarine or Any Light Blue Crystal

3rd Eye – Amethyst or any Dark Blue or Purple crystal

Crown – Clear Quartz

Once you have chosen your crystals it is quite easy to balance your chakras. There are a number of ways you can do this. The first way is to just sit quietly with all 7 crystals in your hands and meditate. Another way is to lie down and place a crystal on each chakra that is associated with that particular chakra and again meditate or sit quietly. You can also visualise each of the colours of the chakra to add some extra healing to all the chakras. I have had clients carry a small organza bag with all 7 crystals in their pocket for constant and regular healing.

Remember it is important after performing a self-healing of your chakras that you need to cleanse and clear your crystals. Do not over think the cleansing of your crystals. There are simple methods you can use such as place them on a windowsill in the sun, using bells/chimes or simply clapping loudly to clear the energy absorbed by the crystals. You can also use water to cleanse them, but make sure that your crystals are not water soluble (e.g. kyanite) as they will dissolve in the water.

Merendi had infant twin boys when her mother suggested she run an exercise class for new mums and their newborns—“Mums & Bubs”. As a new mother Merendi fully understood the importance of good health during pregnancy and after giving birth. Merendi is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with a special interest in chronic disease management and injury rehabilitation. In her earlier years as an Exercise Physiologist, Merendi was part of a multidisciplinary team of allied health practitioners. She saw the great benefits her clients received from a number of experts, not just one. Thus began her ‘dream’ of a multidisciplinary health centre. Merendi’s dream became a reality in December 2007 when, with a newborn, she moved into her current premises and began transforming it into a one-stop health and wellness centre. While it’s taken 20 months create a great team of caring health practitioners, Merendi knows her business ‘dream’ will grow with more practitioners.

Discover the "magic pill" for good health - exercise! It improves blood glucose levels, reduces cholesterol, and helps prevent chronic pain and depression.

Doctors and health professionals are generally fairly quick to point out that there is no “magic pill” for good health – but there’s one thing that might just prove them all wrong.

It’s cheap, easy to get and available all year round. It’s not an apple a day – it’s exercise.
The rule is any exercise is better than no exercise but about 3.5 hours a week of moderate intensity exercise – such as walking – is as close as we are likely to get to the “magic pill”, especially for people with diabetes.

Exercise improves blood glucose levels and insulin function, it reduces cholesterol, blood pressure and fat, it prevents or slows down osteoporosis, helps the immune system, decreases the symptoms associated with depression and helps prevent chronic pain.
Try putting that in a pill.

For years doctors thought the reason people lived longer if they exercised was because they usually had less body fat. But recent research from the Cooper Institute in Texas indicates it’s not the fat that makes the crucial difference, but the level of fitness.
So regardless of whether or not you lose weight, there is still good reason to exercise – it will help you live longer.

Recent research now shows that ‘how hard’ you exercise is more important than ‘how long’ you exercise for managing blood glucose levels.
So there are good reasons why people with diabetes should exercise regularly and include some higher intensity exercise. Here are some of them:

During exercise your muscles immediately use glucose to burn energy

After exercise the amount of glucose that is in your muscles is reduced and insulin sensitivity is improved

Low intensity exercise, such as walking, burns more fat and less glucose

High intensity exercise, such as running, burns more glucose.

Regular exercise can decrease the amount of insulin or oral medicine required

The benefits of exercise are fairly short-lived in the body. The increase in insulin sensitivity after exercise lasts about 48 hours, so to maintain the benefits, you have to exercise at least every second day. But daily exercise will maximise insulin sensitivity.

The best results come from a recommended 3.5 hours of moderate intensity exercise, or two hours of vigorous exercise a week.
The type of exercise you do makes a big difference for people with diabetes: the best program is a mixture of high and low intensity exercise and some resistance exercise.

Top tips for a safe start:

Monitor your blood glucose levels before, during and 15 minutes after exercise

Learn your individual glucose response

Do not exercise if you are sick or have flu

Look after your feet

If you are taking oral medication or insulin be aware you are more likely to have a hypo

Eat properly after exercise to avoid delayed hypos

Avoid exercising late at night

Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated

I incorporate exercise into what I am doing once I am home whether it be cooking dinner or bathing the children. I perform functional type exercises that do not require equipment. E.g. kitchen bench push ups, bath tricep dips, lunges, squats, calf raises.

1. How do you motivate yourself to do exercise after getting home from work, especially if it’s dark?

I incorporate exercise into what I am doing once I am home whether it be cooking dinner or bathing the children. I perform functional type exercises that do not require equipment. E.g. kitchen bench push ups, bath tricep dips, lunges, squats, calf raises.

Having a treadmill, cross trainer or exercise bike set up in the living room or a room that has a TV is also a great way to get some extra cardio. Rather than sitting on the couch you use the treadmill, cross trainer or bike whilst watching your favourite TV show or news.

Another great idea, especially for those who experience back, neck or shoulder pain is to sit on an exercise ball and do some core stability exercises. Not only are you improving your balance and core stability, you are also decreasing the symptoms associated with back pain from prolonged sitting.

2. How much does a woman’s health and fitness affect her capacity to work? ie stronger body/stronger mind etc

A woman’s health and fitness does affect her capacity to work. By keeping yourself relatively fit (and I am not meaning ‘gym junkie’) – spending up to 30 min a day is current recommendation, and always choose healthy food options (avoiding take away and foods high in fat and sugar) you will discover that you have more energy, be more productive at work and home, less pre-menstrual symptoms, less stress and less fatigue at the end of the day.

By exercising daily this will help decrease stress by reducing cortisol (a stress hormone) and increase the good happy chemicals endorphins, which are responsible for making you feel happy. And when you feel happy and less stressed, you are more productive!

3. Is it possible to have it all – good job, good lifestyle etc how do you fit it all in? i.e. timetabling, marking in diary etc

Yes it is possible – women are generally great a multi-tasking, especially when you run your own business and have a family to take care of. The best way to make sure you include ‘time-out’ for yourself, whether it is to exercise, relax or pamper yourself. You need to make an appointment with yourself. Put in your diary, so that everyone, including yourself knows about it and DO NOT change it because someone needs to meet with you. If there is an emergency – work or personal do not cancel this appointment, reschedule it to another time in the day. A lot of my clients find that if they schedule time first thing in the morning before going to work to exercise, then they feel more invigorated to start their day and also they don’t feel guilty when the end of the day comes and they are too tired to exercise.

Another option is rather than meeting a friend for lunch or coffee meet them for an exercise session. This way you can catch up on all the gossip, whilst also getting a great workout.

4. What are the three best exercises for time-poor women?

Any exercise that does not involve the gym or a lot of equipment;

Wall or kitchen bench push ups,

Tricep dips on the edge of bath or kitchen bench,

Lunges down the hallway,

Squats with a washing basket,

Calf raises on a foot stool or on a step,

Stair climbing

5. What are some expert tips to help women exercise more?

Plan to exercise – if you put it in your diary like an appointment, you will do it,

Exercise with a friend/partner – when there is someone else counting on you being there you are less likely to ‘not do it’,

Record your progress – steps, repetitions, weight, time etc

Include the kids – put them in the pram or on their bikes and go for a walk,

Choose a variety of exercise – don’t stick to the one exercise routine, mix it up a little to keep yourself interested and motivated,

Participate in activities that are not seen as ‘standard’ exercise – dancing, ice-skating, roller blading/roller skating, surfing,

If you are still stuck or scared you may hurt yourself get some expert advice from a Personal Trainer or Exercise Physiologist.

There are 5 simple ways a small business can increase their staff productivity. All without the need for expensive and time consuming “Team Building Workshops” or having to recruit more staff to ‘share the load’.

There are 5 simple ways a small business can increase their staff productivity. All without the need for expensive and time consuming “Team Building Workshops” or having to recruit more staff to ‘share the load’.

Take regular breaks

A short break can be as little as 10min and it helps to refresh your mind and clear your thoughts.

Put a reminder on your electronic calendar to remind to take your break or organise to see a client at a local café.

Introduce music into the office

Have music playing on the radio/CD Player in the office. Choose an “easy listening’ channel or have ‘relaxation’ or ‘classical’ music playing. “Classical” music is great for stimulating the brain, whilst ‘relaxation’ music helps to decrease stress.

Eat Nutritious Food

Try having a fruit box delivered weekly, which will provide health snacks for you and your staff.
If you have a designated lunch room provide health snacks like yoghurt, nuts and dried fruit that staff can snack on throughout the day.
Providing nutritious food will keep you and your staff well fuelled and improve their energy levels, which in turn increases productivity.

Encourage Exercise &/or Physical Activity

Exercise (incidental or structured) helps decrease stress by reducing cortisol (a stress hormone) and increase the good happy chemicals endorphins, which are responsible for making you feel happy. When you feel happy and less stressed, you are more productive!

Encourage your staff and yourself to exercise at least 3 times a week. You can do this by having your staff wear pedometers and see who can record the most steps each week and make a competition of it, and offer a prize (e.g. movie tickets, dinner).
Have a fitness professional come to the workplace to conduct fitness classes or personal training.
Encouraging your staff to take part in some form of exercise is also good for building team morale.

Have Fun!

This is the most important of all.

Organise a social event every so often. Try a BBQ or picnic. Ask your staff to bring along their partner and/or kids to some events and make it more family orientated.

Plan a roster of ‘social events’ where everyone in the office can choose something to do each month (e.g. ten pin bowling, rock climbing, bush walking, bear foot bowls). If everyone gets to suggest ideas, this will make the planning of this fun too!

PLEASE NOTE: if you or your staff are starting to show real signs of stress (e.g. increased lethargy, regular days off due to sickness or stress), it might be worthwhile to call our team to help you get to the root of the problem. We have many different services and programs that will assist you in dealing with stress and decreased productivity in the workplace.

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) defines the clinical exercise physiologist as someone who:
“…works in the application of exercise and physical activity for those clinical and pathological situations where it has shown to provide therapeutic or functional benefit.”

AAESS Accredited Exercise Physiologists have advanced skills to assess clients, to develop and monitor a safe and effective exercise or rehabilitation program, regardless of client’s medical history or present fitness levels.

An Exercise Physiologist is ideally suited to providing professional services in the area of exercise as a treatment strategy in physical rehabilitation, as a preventative strategy for disease prevention, and work hardening as part of establishing and sustaining functional independence”.

So how do an Exercise Physiologist’s practices differ to those of a Physiotherapist?

An Exercise Physiologist does not treat patients with a “hands on” approach, meaning they do not treat ‘acute injuries’,

An Exercise Physiologist prescribes exercise programs and provide advice on health, fitness and how it relates to the patients current physical capacities and/or medical condition,

An Exercise Physiologist can assist in rehabilitating a patient from injury, but only when they have received adequate physiotherapy treatment and when that treatment has been deemed to be no longer necessary.

A Physiotherapist assists the patient in managing their acute injury and regaining range of movement/mobility of their injured body part.

An Exercise Physiologist will often see a patient after they have regained their mobility and require a specific functional exercise program to assist in regaining their strength and muscular endurance in the injured body part.

Exercise Physiologist’s are specialists in assisting patients manage their medical condition through the means of exercise. Participating in some form of regular exercise helps a person’s body better control their medical condition and exercise has also been shown to decrease a person’s need to rely solely on their medication.

An Exercise Physiologist also can assist a person in improving their physical and functional tolerances to enable them to return to their pre-injury duties, to improve their fitness to commence a new physically demanding job or even to complete daily activities of life. How An Exercise Physiologist does this is by prescribing an exercise program aimed at not only improving a person’s physical strength, but also their functional strength (work fitness). An Exercise Physiologist designs the client’s exercise program specifically to imitate their job tasks at home and/or work, therefore enabling them to recover faster from injury or surgery.

From picnics and beach trips to gardening and cooking together, there are plenty of fun and easy ways to incorporate physical activity into your family's routine.

Our actions as parents and even as grandparents have a huge impact on the current and future behaviour of our children. It is widely known that children of active parents are usually more active themselves. It is very important as a parent to set a good and healthy example of ‘keeping active’ by getting out and showing your children how much fun it is to be physically active. By being active together as a family it helps to improve your relationship with your children.

So why not try out some of these ideas to get your family more active!

Visit the local park and have a ‘healthy’ picnic.

Explore a national park.

Go camping or hiking.

Spend a morning or afternoon at the beach.

Get on your bikes and explore your local area or ride along designated footbaths at the beach.

Play cricket, soccer, Frisbee or barefoot lawn bowls in your backyard.

Teach your children some of the active games you played when you were their age – hopscotch, skipping games, hide-and-seek or tiggy.

Get a basketball or netball hoop for your yard and shoot some goals.

Fly a kite.

Get together with extended family and/or friends and have a game of footy or cricket in the park.

Visit your local markets together to shop for fresh food.

Do some active household chores or gardening together.

Start a vegetable or herb garden – kids will love helping something grow from a seed into a tasty, fresh meal.

Try cooking together – even chopping and stirring is being active and your children learn a new life skill!

Walk, cycle or use public transport to get to work or school.

Get involved in organised sports or other group activities.

As family try rollerblading or roller-skating – you can relive your childhood whilst teaching the kids some new skills.

Remember the current “Physical Activity Guidelines” suggest that everyone be physically active at least 30 min most or everyday! This is not hard to achieve if you really think about it. Your 30 min can be broken into 2 activities of 15min each. You will be amazed at how easy it is to add 30min of physical activity to your day.

So how do you want your children to behave when it comes to be healthy when they are older?

If you have any fantastic ideas on how to be more active with your family please let me know – info@merendi.com.au
