Renovations are often undertaken for various reasons; for some it's all about attracting new customers, for others it's more of an operational necessity and then there are those businesses who just want a change. In the quiet, subtropical location of Norfolk Island, after previously moving from Queensland's vibrant Sunshine Coast, David and Coral Bell are working around-the-clock to renovate their business Shiralee Executive Cottages. With the Norfolk Island economy largely dependent on tourism, businesses on the Island must be prepared to constantly improve their facilities to attract new visitors. And with their AAA Tourism rating set to be reviewed later next month, the Bells are confident the improvements made to their cottages will help them earn back an extra half-star rating.

Shiralee Executive Cottages are situated on the edge of town where visitors can easily stroll to the shops and local cafes. Set amongst tranquil gardens, the cottages offer visitors both privacy and comfort. "People walk in and say 'wow, this is even better than your photos on the website'." But with the cottages in need of a few aesthetic improvements to revive their former glory, the Bells looked to Bartercard to help fund this project.

In keeping Shiralee's executive reputation in mind, the renovation project commenced with the kitchens. First-class appliances were installed and the Bell's used some of their Bartercard trade dollars to purchase kitchen cabinetry and sinks as well as new tops for the dining tables. With this project now completed, the bathrooms are well underway with fittings being purchased through a Bartercard member in Brisbane, as well as new tiles which were also used throughout the kitchen and laundry.

For that extra special touch, block out curtains, new linen, towels and lighting have all been updated, thanks to Bartercard suppliers.

Mrs Bell is also expecting delivery any day now of some new outdoor tables and chairs to enhance the outdoor area so guests can gaze at the sparkling ocean in comfort and style. The outside of the complex has also recently received a huge new cement driveway funded on Bartercard.

With many businesses experiencing cashflow concerns, renovations are a fantastic way to utilise your trade dollars to improve the marketability and profit of your business.
