When I was working in the United States last year, my friend Vamsee and I used to hangout on the weekends quite often . He would come to my apartment on Friday evening, spend the weekend with me and drive back on Monday morning.

We would buy spicy biryani from a good Indian restaurant. Then we would rent a movie, or go to a theatre to watch movie for the last show. After watching the movie, we would discuss about many ethical topics sometimes until early morning, where we specially used to attack verbally on the ‘system’.

I sometimes wonder whether Rajkumar Hirani overheard our conversation and stole our idea for his movie “3 Idiots” ? Well, you know that I am kidding. Many friends have been recommending me to watch “3 Idiots” movie for a long time. But somehow I missed watching...
Bicycling is fun.
Bicycling helps us enjoy and feel the beauty of nature.
Commuting and exercising in one shot.
Bicycling is one of the easiest exercises.
Bicycling helps lower cholesterol, and improves heart health.
Bicycle is inexpensive.
Bicycling is perfect where car parking is expensive.
Easier to start.
There are relatively no issues if the bicycle is left unused for longer periods. All you need is pump up some air and get going!
No need to worry about fuel.
Thus your bicycle saves you money.
And of course, it is environmentally friendly.
Easier to clean.
Easier to maintain and repair.
Inexpensive repair costs.
Inexpensive to change (or upgrade) to a different one.
Bicycling is cool.
Be a fitness role model to others.
Be a ‘environment-friendly’ role model...
I often played Cricket and Soccer after school hours during my childhood. While we were in the classroom having our last class of the day, we friends would communicate through a sign language about where would be playing. We were so excited about the game, that as soon as we left the school, we would run to playground with our hearts pounding with joy.

We would be cracking jokes and laughing merrily, while on our way to playing Cricket. We would imagine ourselves as international Cricket heroes. We would imitate shots of great Cricket batsmen, and dive in air like those gravity-defying fielders to take stunning catches. Somehow we felt that the future of Cricket was on our shoulders. We played Cricket with such passion, and so did with Soccer often. That ecstatic fun would last for about...
It was 6PM as I was giving instructions to my team for the technical presentation, which we have for the next morning. My phone rang. It was from an unknown number. I thought that it must be some marketing call and disconnected it, so that I could finish off my discussion and leave for the day.

Fifteen minutes later my phone rang again and it was from the same number. This time I picked up the call. A female voice greeted me asking my whereabouts, how I was doing and few other details, without giving me a chance to speak. Finally she asked "Did you recognize me?!!”

How could I forget her? It was Sharmi, my childhood friend. We studied in the same school for just three years, but we stayed in the same apartment, my family was in 2nd floor and her family in 4th. My father and her father...
Last month my dad passed away due to severe Sunstroke. Having lost my mother ten years ago due to illness, I became much closer to my dad. My dad was like my best friend. In this article, I will share my experience on how I am dealing with the death of my dad.

Mourn heartily:
Do not hold back anything. Weep as much as you can. Do not try to look ‘strong’.

Realize:
Realize that death is certain for anyone in this sinful world. It is not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. In other words, if you are not going to mourn today, you may have to mourn tomorrow or may be next year or may be after many years. That is the harsh reality. Keep that in mind.

So, do not hold bitter feelings against anyone, especially your family members. Reconcile. As Saint Paul said, “Let no debt remain outstanding,...
Article by Nuren.

I was born in a non-Christian family. When I was gaining interest in learning more about Jesus Christ a few years ago, one of the things that I did not pay much attention to, was His resurrection. I used to think that Jesus taught so many good things about living a better life, and it should not really matter whether He was resurrected or not. At that time, I used to wonder that why Christians were so particular about His resurrection.

After observing Jesus closely from the Gospels, and researching documentation from various sources (I mentioned two of them below this article), I confirm that I only understood Jesus superficially if I did not learn that He was indeed raised from the dead. If you are inquisitive like me, you may be curious to ask why the...
Article by Rajesh Vadlamani.

If you think of India, what comes to your mind? Culture, food, language, religions and what else? SUMMER! Summer in India can be very hot and at times I feel that I am thrown into Sahara desert. The temperature can reach up to 45 degree centigrade and even higher.

I remember my childhood days, when I used to visit my mom’s native town called Ongole (Andhra Pradesh) for summer vacation. My cousins, friends and myself would play indoor Cricket, Snake and Ladder, Judo and watch many movies via cable connection. We were blessed with water melons, “hard rock” curd and lemonade which were well prepared by my granny to beat the S factor.

I vividly remember one miserable experience I had during those days. On one summer noon, we all went for a short picnic to...
As I grew up in Kerala, I was perplexed by the Malayalam translation of “Good Friday” which is “Dukha Velli”, meaning ‘Sad Friday’. I was confused by these contradictions, why some people called it ‘Good’ and others called it ‘Sad’. At least I was sided with the latter, because the day is commemorated of the death of Jesus Christ, who is my guru and was killed in the hands of Jews and Romans.

But later in my days, once I learned more about who Jesus is and His sacrificial death, I changed my views and became convinced that Good Friday; the day when Jesus Christ was crucified in a bloody way, is indeed a good day and not a sad day.

To understand why Good Friday is good, we need to wait for two more days, i.e. till the Easter Sunday. So let me try to...
Last year I watched Rajni’s movie ‘Enthiran’ (dubbed into ‘Robo’ in Telugu and ‘Robot’ in Hindi). Because of stunning graphics and special effects, I kept wondering if it might be the Hollywood version. This may not be the typical Rajni’s movie; so it is better to keep your expectations flexible in case you still have not watched it, though it is another excellent performance from thalaivar.

Enthiran is Chitti, a robot that looks just like its creator Dr. Vasi, who is a brilliant scientist. Chitti can perform many tough tasks with an extraordinary pace and skill. Because Chitti cannot feel like a human and it does not have a conscience, it is rejected by the screening committee as it can endanger human lives. To get Chitti approved, Vasi works hard and enables Chitti to feel like a...
My schooling went very well till my 7th class without any financial issues. Then my father faced huge loss in his business and we were in debts. While my father was trying his luck in different business opportunities those years, my aunt (mother’s sister) and brother-in-law came to our rescue. They loaned us money multiple times and helped us get through.

When I was studying my under-graduation, then came the biggest blow. My mother was hospitalized and all our little savings were spent for medical expenses. Few months later she passed away due to her illness. It took my father many months to recover from his sadness and regain his emotional strength.

At this time, I was yet to complete the final year of my under-graduation. I also had plans to advance my career in USA. My...
I wonder if the modern man is infected with a dangerous disease, observing the misery he is into. Let me name it "Competitis" (Is there any such disease with this name already?). Keep in mind that I am not a Doctor by profession, I use "Competitis" purely for the sake of this article to convey my thoughts.

Some symptoms of Competitis:
1) The patient has unending ambitions toward increasing his wealth. The patient keeps worrying about how to earn more, primarily for proving that he can earn more than others. He will not bother compromising his integrity to achieve this.

2) The patient's main point of discussion with others revolves around questions like "How much are you making?" or "What are your savings?".

3)...
I often hear about “weighing-scale” concept which makes me think that God needs a weighing-scale. The weighing-scale concept is this: If a person does more good deeds than bad deeds, he/she goes to heaven. Otherwise, he/she goes to hell. That inspires me to do many calculations in my mind. What if a person does 51.1% good deeds and 49.9% bad deeds? Will he/she still make into God’s presence? What if a person does 99.9% good deeds and commits one terribly bad deed which accounts for only 0.1%?

As I was trying to investigate the extra-ordinary claims of Jesus, I read the New Testament of the Bible completely in the recent past. I came across a parable that surprised me. The parable is explained here. In this parable, Jesus talks about an employer who pays...
In this article, I will talk about my views on whether religion is the root cause of much evil in this world and if not, what is the real cause of evil in this world. I will also discuss about the possible solution to destroy this evil. Keep in mind that neither I did PhD on studying evil, nor these are observed autobiographically in my life. These observations are made when I spent time in solitude praying, while caring about and observing those who are suffering.

I started playing cricket when I was studying my fifth standard. As my home was right next to the school playground, whenever any of my friends played there, I too would join them most of the times. We had often played for more than 12 hours in a day even in scorching Summer. Now that's...
When I was a kid, I was often a kaam chhor who would escape from doing household work. Whenever my parents asked me to help them with any kind of work, I would show up disappointed. Seeing my sad face, they would get irritated and delegate those chores to my sister.

Once in a while I too would do those household chores (even though grudgingly); like going to a nearby grocery shop and buying some groceries. My dad would often say “Buy from the store that has more number of customers as this indicates that their products are good”.

But I would look for the stores those have the least number of customers, and would prefer the one that was operated by older people. I used to think “If everyone buys from busy stores, how could these other businesses...
When I was about ten years old, I often used to get into physical fights with other kids. I was part of a small gang in my school. The head of the gang was a tall kid. We all used to call him by the letter ‘N’ (as that was the initial of his last name). N was a good friend of mine. I was like his right hand. (Right hand meaning he trusted me a lot). N and my other friends backed me up always, whenever I fought with someone. If someone said anything against N, we all would go to fight for him.

I was not the strongest kid but I was tough. My parents did not know much about this ‘fighting part’ of me because I used to be a good boy at home. My dad painstakingly used to iron (and he still does) my clothes, but my dress would be messed up in a matter...
Time is just flying off. It has been 3 years already since ComeOnDesis became active online in May/June of 2007.

Every article on this site is valuable to us, because it is contributed with a spirit of selflessness and love from our writers. So, you will not find anything like “Best of ComeOnDesis” or something like that here. Every article from every writer is the best one!

As for our mission, we do not have any big goals of influencing millions of people. If even one depressed soul finds hope by reading our articles, that gives us great joy.

The site’s design has been updated lately and some of our cool articles are featured on the home page. These articles are by no means better (or any less better) than the other articles...
John 9:2: "And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?"

Interestingly, I have been asked to explain this by many of my friends. The verse refers to Jesus’ healing of a blind man. Depending upon what religion one comes from, the explanation differs. I would like to paraphrase what Joseph Stowell (Moody Bible Institute) had to say.

Dr.Stowell goes on to say, "This reveals great deal about the character of man who makes such statement. It is interesting to note when you carefully note this and ask yourself this question: why is that when we hear about someone suffering, we are more interested in the details of why, when, where and how than are about how we can actually go and help that suffering...
I sometimes used to wonder 'What are God's hobbies?' Or what is something that God really enjoys doing? Can it be cricket? football? tennis? or birdwatching? Before we explore what His favorite hobby is, can we know who He is? Some people think that because there is evil in this world, there is no God. How can God let evil things happen to good people? Why not God just appear and destroy all the evil in this world?

Can you guess why? God loves evil people. God loves Adolf Hitler. God loves Osama Bin Laden. We think that these people are evil because of their evil deeds, so does God. That does not stop here. He also sees us as bad people! A gentleman once explained me this in a simple example. If someone steals a small candy from a Wal-Mart...
Human existence on this earth approximately goes back to six million years and we all know that there happened to be great encounters between man and nature with respect to the existence of human species. We have surmounted many critical stages in the sojourn of civilization. The onward march of human civilization has encountered many risks and challenges at every stage of its development, which made the man more dynamic, adaptive, creative and pragmatic. A great journey of man with his greatest achievements from time to time shows that both genders have played their equal part in the making of humanity. They survived themselves from all odds to make not only their own life beautiful, serene and comfortable, but also for the future generations. Their thinking process of development was...
When I was about 10 yrs old, I had a friend called Subba Rao. Subba Rao was a rough and tough guy, and of my age. We were good buddies. We used to fight often but we always become buddies again. We used to get into fights for very small things. His home was right next to mine and so I used to hang out with him almost always. Subba Rao knows only one alphabet (when translated, it is ‘F’ in English). He rarely speaks anything without using ‘F’. You get what I mean?

There is an incident about him and I always laugh when it comes to my mind. This happened on one fine day in a hot summer. I wanted to teach Subba...
Most often, we are focused too much on ourselves and ignore the pain of this world. Sometimes we do not understand the pain of others unless we ourselves experience it directly. Most of us have an attitude of smugness and consider ourselves righteous because we did not murder, rape, abuse or steal. Even worse, we express our own opinions about morality and God and degrade them to our comfort level.

Righteousness is not only about the absence of bad things but also about the absence of good things. We could be considered unrighteous and sinful because we did not do good things like feeding someone who was hungry, visiting and comforting someone who was sick in prison, donating clothes to a poor person who was suffering in cold weather...
For some reason, to me, this year went by very quickly. Generally, it is that time of the year for me to evaluate, among all other things, my own standing before God. I do believe, many like me, are in the same situation trying to get a measure of their spiritual progress. I would like to share some of my own ideas with a hope that it will encourage someone.

I find that a finest test one can perform to gauge his/her spiritual progress is to ask ourselves simply this; are there things (actions) that I consider now to be not according the will of God, which I considered okay in the beginning of the year? If so, I am progressing towards the goal of reaching that final destination. It means that I have been successful on peeling another layer of skin to get closer to God.

(The article title has been updated on December 1, 2009). I came across an article by someone who wrote about the ultimate goal of life. Basically the essence of that article is this: Do not feel pain or happy towards anything, give up the feelings and soon one will reach a godly state.

Sometimes I do not understand what will happen after reaching this godly state? If that is godly state, then what is the point of many beautiful things like an innocent child's smile, beautiful nature, and wonderful stars? Many people customize God according to their specifications.

What if God is someone who has feelings and emotions? What if God created this world for a wonderful purpose, but humans messed it up with their evil desires and selfish motives? What if God is still...
When I completed my high school and was leaving for undergraduate education, one of my friends gave me a scrapbook to fill. I found a question on hobbies. That was the first time I took time to list down my hobbies. I remember, I wrote "Cricket, cricket, cricket" :). As I grew up, I had the opportunity to try many new things in life. Some of them were short-term hobbies. And some kept going on. Like this one: writing.

I questioned myself. Why do we develop hobbies? There are many reasons which can be narrowed down mainly into two, in my opinion. Reason one is that we want to have a good and quality time when we are alone. Reason two is that we want to have good time with others. So simple! ha ha....So hobbies do sound like something important in our lives....
Recently, I listened to a series of recorded lectures by Steven L. Goldman titled Science in the Twentieth Century: A Social-Intellectual Survey. In these lectures Goldman, who has degrees in both physics and philosophy, makes some interesting observations about the development of science and math. In the present essay I will take some quotes from his lecture notes and comment on them. First of all, he makes the general statement that

"The practice of science was traditionally open and democratic, but by the late 1800s, physical science had taken on the characteristics of an esoteric cult, because of mathematics."
—Steven L. Goldman

And he states that

"The obscurity of the theories of 20th-century physical science from the perspective of the...
Many people worry a lot. They worry about everything. They worry about food. They worry about job. They worry about clothes. They worry about themselves. They worry about what others think of themselves.

I observed that one of the reasons that most people worry in their lives is because of what others might think of them. It is the general tendency of humans, that they want to prove themselves superior to others. They chase behind something materialistic thinking if they achieve it, they become popular and happier. Their happiness is conditional based on how others might react to them. Besides, media play a big role these days. Many times media projects that someone who is popular, successful or wealthy is happy. Is that true?

When many people follow a...
I do not usually think of myself as an optimist or a pessimist. I tend to think of myself as a hopeful realist. An optimist seems to be someone who sees things as being better than they really are. A pessimist seems to be someone who sees things as being worse than they really are. To me, neither one sees the reality of the situation. But maybe there is no absolute reality independent of one’s perceptions. If I say that I am a realist, am I saying that my view of things is the only valid and real view? If I call myself a hopeful realist, am I not saying that things are actually bad, but that they might improve? Are these “bad” things the true reality? Or is my view of things what is bad? If I could see the big picture—if I...
In this article, I am going to share a kick-ass recipe, that is going
to satisfy your taste buds and will also make your muscles stronger than
ever before! You will become so strong that you can start playing with
planets and stars.

Well, not actually.

This is my own recipe. So, use caution and try it at your own risk!
I've experimented this recently on two of my good friends and they still
seem to be surviving. So, my recipe works!!!

I like devouring different kinds of healthy and delicious recipes. But I am also lazy to cook one for myself. When my laziness is on a low key, I try to experiment different kinds of recipes. So, here is the one I tried, and my friends enjoyed it too (actually they said they enjoyed it). Currently the patent is pending ;)

This is an ideal...
Definition of Solitude: 'The state or quality of being alone or remote from others.'

There are some incidents that increased fear in my life; such as the passing away of my mother. I received good love and support from my family and close friends during those times, but it was still scary. There was a fear of facing life.

Sometimes, I used to wake up in the middle of the night because of that fear and stress. Friends who are good-hearted can empathize with us in such situations. But the help you may receive from them in the form of good words is limited sometimes.

When I had any sort of fear, I used to walk alone or spend time alone watching sky and stars. When I watch all these things, surely I knew that these things did not come out of nothing. Someone...
