Developing Jython Apps using NetBeans IDE

...is the first community-contributed tutorial on Python support in NetBeans 6.5 IDE, written by Joshua Juneau, NetCAT 6.5 Participant

Here's a brief overview of the tutorial;

Since Netbeans 6.5 has been released, Python and Jython support has been available via the nbPython plugin. There is quite a bit of documentation available for this plugin in various locations. In this article, I will tie together some of the different references for this plugin and I will show you how to generate a small Jython application which uses some Java libraries contained within an external JAR file.

13, 14, 15, 16... No, I am not counting anything, I am just figuring out the mystery behind this sequence of numbers..

Hubert A. Klein Ikkink has recently scored a hat-trick (Three Consecutive Weeks) of being recognized as Topmost Contributor of the weekly newsletter edition (#14, #15, #16) and that too within the same month. He has mainly focused on contributing Tips and Tricks.

Incredible!

Reason being, he has contributed 13 docs in the month of November, 2008. Coincidentally, we were publishing #14, #15 and #16 editions during that time.

If your code generates an uncaught exception at runtime, NetBeans will display a dialog box which can show the details of that exception to the user. This is a welcome alternative to simply crashing the application, and provided you have written solid code, your user should never see this dialog anyway.

I got a ClassNotFoundException or NoClassDefFoundError. How can I fix it?

The most likely explanation is that you have a problem in your dependencies. In order for a class in one module to reference a class/interface defined in another module, the following must be true:
The class/interface being referenced must be visible to the code using it, according to the normal Java visibility rules. This typically means that the class must be public, since package-private access across modules is impossible.
The package containing the class/interface must be exported (marked as providing an API visible to other modules).
The module containing the code which uses this class/interface must declare a dependency on the module which provides it.

Long time back, in September 2007 by Wade Chandler. Surprising, well they were getting ready for the major role they played this year, NetBeans Innovator Grants! Ofcourse, you will find them anyhow on the mailing lists.

Comeback Month

Standalone Module Branding Tips

Standalone Module Branding Tips

If you build a “standalone” module for your Netbeans RCP based application, during development you will notice that it will display the original Netbeans IDE/RCP splash screen rather than your branded application splash screen.

To enable your own branded splash during development you can add the following on the module project properties

Note: It is tested on Netbeans 6.1 IDE
