Question: Is a small street legal, properly licensed to drive on California streets, motorcycle permitted in Anza Borrego on the same dirt roads allowed to licensed 4 wheel drives?

The Oceanside Museum Of Art is such a wonderful place. Every museum has exhibits and things to see, but unlike many museums, you'll not only find great art inside, but even greater people working and volunteering there. They are the true beauty of the museum. The first time I met Mr. Skip Pahl was at our little IB Art show in the multi-purpose room, when I was senior at Oceanside High School, Class of 2003. I'm 25 now, but I remember well how excited he was to see what we had done. It was awesome. We were just a few high school artists, but he was genuinely supportive and sincerely interested in us.

That's how great the Oceanside Museum of Art is. They really understand how the arts can enrich and inspire a community. They know the real beauty of art is in people, not so much in the objects themselves. I'll never forget how fun it was to hang out there with everyone, so make some time to visit the museum. It has definately been an positive influence in my life.

We did the Inside Look tour and really enjoyed it! It was our first time at the zoo, so it gave us a great overview. Plus, we got to go behind the scenes with the lions, jaguar, giraffes, and pandas. We loved our guide Kim and our zookeeper Jacob. It is definitely worth the extra money.

Here is the museum's list of current forms of identification that can be used for the Tecate trip: http://sdrm.org/events/tecate/#customs Since re-entry requirements have been changing recently, it is best to check this link when making your reservations. Also note that advanced reservations are required because your name must be submitted to the Department of Homeland Security before you take the trip. Enjoy!

This is the most real experience you can find. Not only do you get to sift through tailings for 4 hours at $60, you get the go into the mine and see the workings. The material that you could pull out of the pile is of great variety. I have found Tourmaline, many different kinds/size crystals, kunzite, aquamarine, morganite and various other minerals. Nice feldspar crystals are to be found as well. I love the other fee mines but this one offers the best bang for your bucks. The mine owner is down to earth and helpful as is the other staff.
Again, this is a tailings mine. Your chance of finding awesome facet grade material is low but possible. I have uncovered some really nice crystals and some cool aquas. The crystals range from gemmy clear and smoky to iron stained. Many are terminated. Still, the sweet finds are the kunzite and morganite. I have not recovered morganite yet but others have. I have nice kunzite from the mine.
Like all other digs, bring sunscreen, H2O and snacks. This facility offers shade and nice restrooms. Tell Jeff that Eric of the diehard rockhounds sent you.

Hey there Miner.

I would like to say that all the fee dig experiences in the San Diego area are great. I have experience digging at the big four mines and enjoy each of them for several reasons. I consider myself a rockhound. I do it for the glory of the find. I have met the mine owners at every mine and they are all very helpful.
The Gems of Pala is very accessible and fun. I have had great fortune at this dig. Buckets are about $20 each. You dig the dirt off the tailings pile and sift it on site or take it home. Your chance of finding Tourmaline is pretty high. You will find a variety of chips ranging in color from black, pink, blue and green. I have found make tourmaline pencils, some of which are bi-colored and double terminated. You may stumble on some gemmy facet grade pieces as I have. Once, a man across from me found a monster pink tourmaline as big as my thumb and terminated. You will also find lepedolite of good quality.
Go through your screen slowly and carefully. Some of those champagne colored tourmaline are hard to spot. Keep everything that you think is interesting and they (Lin-Lin) will tell you what is good.
The shop owner will even give you an approximate value of your findings. This may be an inflated value as things are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. Still, the people at this mine are helpful and the experience is unique and fun. i have no bias as I like my experience at all the mines I dig at.
If you are a school teacher as I am, especially fourth grade, I suggest buying a bag and taking it to your students and let them find some gems. It attaches to the curriculum. If you have any questions about this or any experience, call me at 909-648-3050.
