Speaking about consumer rights and microsoft practices, Bill could learn a lot from these guys. Select a checkbox and go to its "properties window". Click on the Apperance Tab. Now all you have to do is "reset" the transparency for the "Fill Color".  You probably already have set to a transparency, but for whatever reason when you "reset" again it forces Acrobat to acknowledge the correct rendering of the checkbox.
