This is one of my biggest struggles. I know that they grow up so fast and I will miss these days. I want to be able to look back with fond remembrance of our quality time togther and not regret for the things we didn’t do. I try to be a “yes mom.” whenever possible because I know that I won’t ever regret reading that extra book to them, but I might one day regret saying “not now” too often.

Suzanne, I wish I had some great pearls of wisdom to share with you. It is so hard for me to get rid of my kiddos toys!! I’m a big softy, and would rather get rid of my own stuff. As my older kids have gotten to an age where they can understand “too much” it has helped tremendously. As far as the little ones, I try to assess what is truly loved and what isn’t. Maybe it’s wrong, but when there is a toy that hasn’t been played with for sometime, I put it in a box. If nobody asks for it for a certain period of time, away it goes. Yes, I have misjudged before, but especially the younger ones are quick to move on (usually!). Best wishes in your endeavor! Let me know if you find something that works well for you.

Time sure does fly, doesn’t it! (Not the sleepless nights, but the rest of it. ) I definitely want time to slow down at times, and I can already feel a difference in how I handle my younger ones, from when my older kids were little. I guess this means I learning. I hope you are able to spend that time that you want to with your kiddos! Thanks so much for commenting.

Thanks for the comment, Dawn. I love how you say you’re not perfect, just learning from mistakes you made. I can totally relate to this! It’s wonderful that you have grown daughters that you can encourage. What a blessing to have a mom who is there for your girls!

Have you discovered how to get those lingering smells out? A friend and I both had the same trouble. We “stripped” them with blue Dawn (1 Tsp, for a whole load of diapers and covers in the washer). Then rinse 2 times in the washer. Then dry in the never with a dryer sheet, or on the line, and Voila! They smelled great, and they started soaking up potty like they were meant to again!

This is GREAT! I keep trying to declutter, but the toys one kid is willing to get rid of, the next kid wants as theirs, now. I went to using the “1 rubbermaid tote” per child for “keep” toys and let them only have out their most favorite. We did get rid of toys a couple years ago, then even I regretted a couple that we gave away. I KNOW less is better, but I can’t bring myself to take a way a kids toy if they say they want it, and they think they want them all (except my 6 year old who knows we have too many) What do you do or say to your children to help them realize not ALL can be their favorites?

I can so relate to the stories of the people you have encountered. As a mom to soon to be 13 year old and a 3 month old (yes big gap). I want time to stop sometimes. While we try to install godly principles and values to our 12 year old as he gets ready for the big world. Emotionally I am not ready and cherish our time together – it takes on new meaning.
