Thanks for stopping by Kimm!

While I understand that smoking in the rain is inconvenient, I don't feel that inconvenience is an excuse for placing someone else's health in hazard. And considering the number of "patios" I see where cover & heat are provided, I see no reason why someone who smokes can't be policed.

It is one of those catch 22's, the law and idea is great but not a lot of people are willing to smoke 7.5m away from a covered office door entrance in the rain.. Just like the bike helmet law, it's there but it's not really enforce and it should be.. It would be a waste of time for any enforcement officers to stand around waiting for people to light up. So I don't know..

How many office buildings are willing to go all big brother to catch a co-worker smoking ?

If it were only an email advising of an opportunity to purchase new seats or that the team was opening tickets to the general public, I'd be in complete support. It's simply the request for existing season ticket holders to commit so early in the game with what I deem as inadequate incentive combined with the general "tone" of the message.

As for whether or not you renew, have you thought about going in with someone else who may not be as available either to balance the load?

I can see both sides of the argument here. I see where they're coming from in a ticketing stand point - I understand their motive and goal. It is what it is.

At the same time you can't fault them for doing their job. Their goal is to sell seats but I agree that the timing was poor. It's hard to get people to committ to a new stadium not having seen it and the incentive was hardly enticing.

Not sure what I'm going to do yet as I found it difficult to go to as many games as I'd like.

While the email didn't give me the ill feeling it's given you - it certainly left a sour taste in my mouth after reading it.

Good post. I'm a season ticket holder also, and shook my head in disbelief when I received the "protect your turf" email from the Whitecaps. Poor timing, poor judgement. I really want to get behind this club and support it - but wins and losses aside, they are making it extremely difficult to do so.

While I know that a few of my friends are likely not going to renew simply based on what they've seen over the season, I'd like to think I can look past the record understanding that they are simply an expansion side with results representative as such. Yet the constant reminder that this is "world class soccer.. err.. football" and that I should be privileged to be able to watch does wear me thin.

Or maybe I'm just cranky. I don't know.. haven't had my coffee yet today.

Right on. +1.

The tone of so many of their tweets, press releases and emails are just terrible. I constantly feel talked down to. We're not idiots. Telling us that this is the way it's done everywhere else means nothing to me. I compare them to other local entertainment options, not to the Prem League or anywhere else.

As of right now, I don't know if I'll be back as a season ticket holder next year.

Hi Bob - thanks for stopping by!

I'm not too sure if there will be a similar transit plan for this event considering the size has it pegged at a considerably smaller level, but I imagine there will be something in place to get more people there on foot than previously. Beyond that, with the introduction of the Canada Line, transit options in and out of Richmond are a touch better and as long as frequency is maintained or enhanced on buses into Steveston, all should be good.

I loved the last Tall Ships Festival, so was very disappointed when it was cancelled for this year. I don't know why it was considered a failure since there were lots of people there on the 2 days I was there. I stood in some long lines to get on some of the popular ships.
I was pleasantly surprised to hear it was back on ... even in a smaller way. How do they expect to be successful this time if they don't do better advertising! I just happened to here that CTV had contest to win tickets.
The problem for me will be getting there as I do not own a car. Last time BC Transit had shuttle buses out of Richmond. Will they do that again?
