Thanks. I think I was helped by not caring much about the previous Star Trek films. I did think the Kirk/Carol relationship was underplayed and there were a couple of Carol moments – the underwear scene particularly – which grated. I hope there is a third film, but there’s going to have to be some character development – it can’t just be Spock and Kirk clash, Kirk is reckless but heroic, Spock and Kirk are friends.

Nice review, Louise. I didn’t find it as stimulating a you did, and felt the film had a number of issues which frustrated me more than they entertained, but I get that’s its a well made follow up to the best of the trek films ever… I’d liked to have seen the kirk/carol relationship developed a little more, but with all the action and explosions I’m not surprised a bit of character development went by the wayside….

I was a bit underwhelmed by this one. The end was cute, but for a while I wasn’t even sure I wanted it to happen!

It’s nice to see films opening in the UK before the US – doesn’t happen very often so good to gloat when it does.

I could have done with more Karl Urban but when he is on screen he’s very good. And Benedict Cumberbatch is very sexy, not sure I mentioned that.

Awesome that you saw this already! My press screening is scheduled for Wed and I can’t wait. I was especially intrigued by Cumberbatch, so glad to hear that he “…is exceptionally good and brings both brain and brawn to the role” Well naturally! He’s an unconventionally sexy guy, I agree. I do love Karl Urban too, I hope he has some decent screen time here.

Totally agree that The Great Gatsby and Man of Steel ones are tantalizing. Having seen the first, it didn’t quite live up to it but hopefully Man of Steel would. LOVE Henry as Supes

I generally like Edgar Wright’s movies and I definitely would watch this just for the cast!
