Come back and let me know how you end up liking this version. Several others have switched over to this version and all agree, it far better and they really like drinking it.
I tried the NT version of beet kvass and I must confess, although I like salty foods, its not easy to drink. So I'll definitely try this version on my next batch.

Thanks for sharing.
Reply To

You are welcome! Let me know how the brownies turn out for you. I've made this recipe so much now and they are a big hit with everyone, even those that don't need GF. It's my hubs that needs it, but I've come to prefer this recipe over any standard one now.
Reply To

My first attempt at baking brownies, was a disaster 'coz I put more water that what was required. I've been wanting to go gluten-free so this is a must-try! And thanks for the bonus recipe! Great to try on a weekend with the kids!
Reply To

Upon my oldest daughters diagnosis of severe allergies and allergic conjunctivitis, even ivory bothered her and dried her skin out. My husband's grandmother shipped me a vintage Recipe/Household tips book printed in the 1950's by her Church up in Minot, ND. I was amazed at how resourceful these women were and how much money I was shelling out to big companies for things I could make better, myself and with less chemicals. I found a homemade laundry soap recipe and l went to my local Big Lots where I found Zote on sale for 49 cents ( not knowing what I was doing.) I used washing soda, grated zote and borax and was able to use a 5 gallon home depot bucket my hubby bought. Vinegar in the fabric softener at first but quickly realized I didn't need it. Citronella? The clothes is so much softer, smells clean not perfumed or like Citronella which I can't stand the scent of, looks bright and all with only 1/2 cp. of the soap per wash in my HE front load. I love it. The doctor asked for the recipe to share with her other patients parents. I am a believer!!!
Reply To

To be perfectly honest I don't bother to do the whey in mayo. So many are following the protocol in Nourishing Traditions that's it
is so important to increase probiotics. And in so doing it, makes the mayo last longer, I'm thinking the reason is because the whey lacto ferments it, thus it would make it last longer. We do lacto fermentation, but I don't feel like every thing that we put into our bodies needs to be lacto fermented. With the organic lemon juice and aged white wine vinegar I put in mayo recipe it lasts a long long time. I've never worried about it going bad. Mayo is not an item we use daily, it's just a condiment to spread on a sandwich or put into a salad. I just personally don't see the need to lacto ferment my mayo ever.
My copy of Nourishing Traditions is missing. I would look up exactly the info in there if there is any reasons. It's hiding somewhere in the house, which is odd because it should be on my cookbook shelf and I have never lent it out to anyone! When I come across it I will look up what they say.
Reply To

I was wondering, do you know why adding whey makes the mayo last longer? I've been googling it and trying to figure it out, but I've only been getting recipes that have it in it, versus explaining WHY it makes it last longer.
Thanks!
Reply To

Avocado oil, I'd never thought of trying that in this recipe. Thanks! We don't mind the olive oil, though when made with extra virgin it's way strong, But the regular lighter olive is fine. I'm going to pass this on to others. And will purchase some avocado oil myself.
Reply To
