I can see that it depends on the clarity of the voice in the video. If it's of low quality then the transcription will not be perfect. I've seen videos with decent transcription. But again it does not work perfectly all the time. There is still room for improvement.

Dave,

Thanks for the review. I'm a recent convert to Mac, but also a Sony Vegas user for the past 10-plus years. I used Final Cut about a decade ago when I worked in a Mac shop doing some television work. Based on my good experience back then, I was getting ready to bite the bullet and buy FCPX.

Thanks for saving me the money. Instead, I'll be installing Virtual Box and Windows XP SP3 on my Mac and running my faithful copy of Movie Studio 10, which has consistently been making me money and NOT giving me headaches for some time now.

You rock!

In terms of pricing. Zencoder charges by the minute and Encoding.com by the GBs. Those who have tried both services, wich one of the price charging is better? I did some calculations and it seems that by the GB it would cost more if you upload and encode HQ/HD videos. So doing some basic numbers, Zencoder might be a little more economic than Encoding.com.

What you guys think?

The other service that is cheaper is Panda Stream, but I have read that is slow. I also find this benchmark test that seems to show that Zencoder is the fastest of the Encoding services.

I can't imagine one commercial YouTube partner company that was so interesting that I'd pay for their live stream "advertisement" when their competition has similar media posted online for free. There are training events I might pay for, but I'd probably checkout live events or non-monetized options and/or see what my membership sites offered first. Plus the little pop-up ads and ad rolls on YouTube has decreased my browsing time to zero for many channels already. But I can see how this can be a money-maker if a firm's mail list is unlike me in their choices.

I am an educator and I am not appalled; I am excited.

I don't see this as an example of a child not having access to other forms of information, rather a preference of that child wanting to interact with the world around them in a different way than 'traditional' forms of communication. This is simply another step in the natural progression of humanity. Our forefathers are probably lamenting our lack of skills in many areas (building a house of our own, growing/hunting/slaughtering our own food, passing along oral traditions instead of relying on written records, etc...). The times, they are a-changing. This child will most likely grow up knowing how to read, how to turn pages on a magazine, and how to write with hands and writing implements. However, this child will also demand more interaction with the information consumed and will get it. Text, graphics, sound, video, animation, and more will be part of the sensory input experience for an entire lifetime and this child will have a head start over others. I welcome these children to our school and district. I encourage them.

Critical thinking and problem solving begin here and we see it happening live in the video. Experiencing and learning the difference between the types of media. Why do we insist on holding onto antiquated ideas and concepts? For the nostalgia? I was reprimanded in school repeatedly for my handwriting and now I can honestly state that I hand write perhaps one single page of text in a year (if you combine all my notes together). I type as my main form of written communication now. I only wish I had been exposed to it earlier. There are many other examples of how we're stuck in the 1950 model of education and need to change.

I'd just like to add http://pandastream.com to this list. We've been using them at MediaCore for almost a year now and they're really awesome. Their pricing is a lot cheaper than Zencoder/Encoding.com as they don't charge by the minute of video encoded, and their API's were a lot easier to integrate with our app. For anyone looking for an awesome encoding platform with solid support I'd definitely recommend them.

WHAT YOU SAY IS NOT TRUE!
A friend of mine buyed a Sony NX5 M camera that records as avchd. he recorded in full hd and I edited in a pc I recently made. it is a i7 3820 with 32 gb ram ddr 3, raid mode 0 (strip) 3x500 gb, video card leadtek nvidia gtx580 3 gb. have test it with pinancle studio and adobe premiere 5.5. it is hardly editable this hormat compared to any other format. as a note, in adobe and pinnacle I checked and cpu was always as 15 % and ram at 20%. video card is not the isue as well. the project renders fast, around half of the time of the movie (with transitions, chapters etc) but the editing is a nightmare. I can't belive that in so many years since the format apeared no one figured a solution to make it play normal.
