You can’t actually buy songs on Zune.net, just like you cannot buy songs at Apple site. You have to use the Zune software to get to the Zune Marketplace, where you can buy songs.

But you don’t have to get you music through the Zune Marketplace if you don’t want to. The Zune players work with MP3s, so if you want to buy MP3s from Amazon for example, that works.
