Communication 2.0 http://communication2-0.com One writer's path in a Web 2.0 world Tue, 11 Mar 2008 04:48:19 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.5.1 en In the middle of things… http://communication2-0.com/2008/03/06/in-the-middle-of-things/ http://communication2-0.com/2008/03/06/in-the-middle-of-things/#comments Thu, 06 Mar 2008 10:36:53 +0000 David Beaudouin http://communication2-0.com/2008/03/06/in-the-middle-of-things/ A good novelist will tell you never to start at the beginning of a story, but in media res, “in the middle of things.”  In a few hours, I’ll be landing in Austin, Texas to jump into my first South by Southwest Interactive Conference.  Howdy, Tex.During my life, I’ve been a writer, creative director, corporate manager, film producer.  But in Austin, I will simply be a newb, a first-timer, an outside insider in a crowd of over 6,000 (quoting the program) “uber-geeks and digital creatives who push the cutting edge of technological change… content developers, web designers, programmers, bloggers, wireless innovators, gamers, tech entrepreneurs, investors, and educators.” Kind of refreshing for a change.

This SXSWi marks a new step for me as well, as I begin to make the break away from a career largely wrapped around traditional communications media, even though I’ve been a web worker since the early 90’s.  Like my friend Jim Long is fond of saying,  “I’m a new media soul in an old media body.” And like T.S. Eliot said, old men should be explorers.  So here goes.  I’ll be posting from Austin for the next six days, and will share what I learn and unlearn.
