Joomla 1.7.3 and Joomla 1.5.25 were released today, as a result of a zero-day security issue. Because of the security issue, it's recommended that you update your sites immediately.

Joomla 1.7.3 fixed 77 CMS bugs as well as the two security issues.

One of the big new features in Joomla 1.7.3 has to do with multi-language improvements, which are summarized in this blog post.

Yesterday, Heidi and I met with a wonderful group of women running a startup. They have a Joomla website, but they have had a nightmare dealing with their Joomla developer. Time after time, they have requested something to be done on their site, their developer says no problem, and the developer fails to deliver. Furthermore, the developer would send them invoices, charging hours and hours of time for "research", which never materialized into a solution for their problems. The client was funding this developer's learning curve, to no benefit of their own website!

Joomla 1.7 now features a terrific redirect component, which will make preventing 404 page not found errors in your site redesigns and migrations much easier. This component is particularly important now that many are starting to migrate their sites from Joomla 1.5 to 1.7.

Joomla 1.7 stripping out code? Here's the fix

Increasingly, websites are offering a bit of HTML you can paste into your site to show some cool feature: Facebook or Twitter feeds, YouTube videos, badges from site or another. You try copying and pasting the HTML into a Joomla article or a custom HTML module, and you find that the code gets stripped, removing critical tags like script or iframe, so it doesn't work correctly. Then you try to go find a Joomla extension that will allow you to post the information. It's frustrating!
