Back To School With Lands End Kids: 5 Fall Looks To Love

When it comes to back to school shopping Lands End is the go-to place for those classic, preppy looks for kids- and they’re affordable (especially if you shop Lands End overstock items!)

These are the clothes you want them to wear for class pictures, assembly day and if your kids are in private school like mine, these are the clothes that are perfect for “dress down-dress up day” (which translates to: No uniforms, No Jeans, No Sweats).

Here are 5 styles that I fell in love with when looking through the fall Lands End catalog from the Style School event in NYC last week.

The Limes

I am currently addicted to this bright, vibrant shade of green. Contrast it with Navy, Purple, ORANGE (see bottom images)- Such a fun color!

The Classic Rain Gear

“We all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine”…. this rain gear is classic, simple and fun for a rainy day. I love that there is a girls and boys version too!

Layers, Oranges and Outerwear

Layers is something you hear over and over again “don’t be afraid to layer”, “layers are in”… and there’s a reason for it- they can really make an ordinary look “pop” and it also allows you to have multiple looks with the same articles of clothes. I love the sweater and blazer look on the top right (below).

Oranges

Much like my obsession with lime, I also fancy the color orange for fall (every year)- burnt orange especially. As I mentioned earlier in this post, the blues navy blues are perfect for this.

Outerwear

Can we group shoes and backpacks into outerwear? Oh, well. I’m going to.

The Lands Ends Back Packs come in 4 sizes for pre-school to High Schoolers. I cannot say enough about these backpacks. Persnickety Fall Collection

This year I have found a new love when it comes to clothing for little girls, that love? Persnickety Clothing!

Their lines have a vintage feel (which is kinda my thing) and lots of lace and ruffles – and their accessories to mix and match to their outfits are too cute for words. The other thing I love is that all the pieces from the line can mix and match making completely new looks.

The only down side of this amazing clothing brand? Some (like my husband for instance.) might find the clothing a little on the pricey side.

So while, I can’t deck out my daughter in Persnickety fashions every day, for special occasions when I get to splurge a little (read: some times more than a little) – this is definitely where I will be looking.

Scary Mommy and Target team up for an addicting social media style experiment

This fashion blog has been a dream of mine for some time, however I must say keeping up with it has been more challenging than I thought it would be. Mostly because when I do my “research”- my re-search turns to re-tail and well, the post ends up falling to the way side. And when it comes to piecing together outfits for my “Get The Look” posts? I can get lost for hours.

This weekend, Jill made an announcement that she was teaming up with Target for a social media style experiment.

I clicked over to see the details and it is a LOOK MAKER of all Merona clothing. I LOVE look makers!! For this social media experiment you get to dress Jill based on her calendar of events for the month of May. The outfits that receive the most “likes”, Jill will have to wear (brave girl).

Am I the only one who’s freeze frame face on these vlogs always looks ri-dunkulous? *sigh* Whatevs!

Update!!
The flip flops I mentioned are called “FLIPPED OUT” -not “Flipping Out” which is actually a reality show on Bravo about a neurotic OCD real estate investor.

Entertaining show- but not even close to as adorable as the flip-flops.

This week has been a total washout. Weeks like this just never play well in the sandbox with hair- no matter what hair type you have.

Braids and buns are perfect for these casual hair days when you don’t want to fuss too much with the hair dryer, but want something a little more fun than your run of the mill pony. And there are so many different variations.

How cute are these styles?

The best part is if you can do a basic braid and twist knot, you can easily pull off these styles with some bobby pins and spray. Even if you have shorter thin hair (like yours truly), if you play around a little you can make braids and knots work for you on bad hair days.

My love for braids, knots, and messy buns has inspired me to make this a new feature on the site that we are calling Thursday Tresses.

The Sunday Splurge: Bathing Suits

Bathing suit season is quickly approaching, quicker than many of us would like. So for today’s Sunday Splurge I am putting my stamp of approval on spending a little extra cash on this summers swimwear that makes you feel more confident poolside- especially if that swimwear accentuates the right places, and perhaps hides some of the areas that we’re more self conscious about.

You will notice I am especially in love with the Anthropologie Swimwear as well as the Norma Kamali’s Swim line.

It’s worth noting that Norma Kamali’s one pieces feature a panel that will slim down your look. Their customer service also allows you to Skype with them. So you can literally show them how the swim suit looks on you to get feedback. While I’m not sure I would be daring enough to Skype myself in a bathing suit to strangers, it is a very innovative customer service offering.

I love my Tar-jay. I can walk in at any given time for a new rubbermaid container and walk out with 3 new outfits, a handbag, scarf and a wall clock (oh, and the rubbermaid container of course). It may be an illness, — but I know I am not alone.

And when it comes to apparel and fashion, they always have cute, affordable stuff for the whole family- So when I buy something for myself and feel a little guilty I can just stroll over to the children’s isle and get them something too – there, we’re even.
