A few weeks ago I held a compo on the Schism Tracker boards, it went well enough that I've decided to do it semi-regularly. People thought that other communities might be interested in hearing about it, maybe they're right?

Remix Virt Contest for Award Winning Videogame Retro City Rampage (Mar28,'11)

I'm one of the three composers on the game Retro City Rampage. It has just been nominated for excellence in audio by the Independent Games Festival (basically the Sundance/Cannes for gaming). We've decided to run a remix competition for the theme song and even give out the actual source file for the song.

I've been working in videogames since '94 and was lucky enough to score the multi-award winning Canadian documentary The Corporation and can definitely say that this could be an amazing opportunity to anyone wishing to enter the videogame industry. The competition will be hard as we are sending out the invite to many talented composers around the world. We look forward to hearing your mixes!

SDCompo Round 55

Round 55 of SDCompo has begun! We are starting 2011 off with our biggest samplepack ever, 169MB! It's worth the wait for a fantastic pack of free drum kits and synths.

SDCompo is a monthly online multi-format module competition. Compete against trackers from around the world, share your thoughts on entries by fellow trackers and vote for your top 5 of the round.

This round features 3 FREE VST for PC and 2 for MAC: Mantis, Chip32, Synth1 (windows only). Also featured are 2 FREE DSP, TAL-Reverb and TAL-Dub.
This round's suggested theme is Videogame / Movie Score/Soundtrack Remixes.
Vocal samples and Personally Performed Instruments are accepted.

Entry deadline for Round 55 is: 12:00AM February 1st, 2011 CST.

Farmfest is once again having music compos. This year, the party takes place from the 19th to the 23rd of August. The deadline for remote entries is the 18th of August.

If we get enough entries, we can separate all the entries into 3 individual compos, rather than one combined compo.

RULES:

One entry per person. No more.
Any format that xmp can play (XM, IT, MOD, S3M, SID, SND, etc) and executable.
xmp will be used to play all modules.
If submitting a track done in Renoise, it will be entered into the streaming music compo. You'll want to complain, but rules are rules, sorry!
If submitting an executable, you MUST also supply an mp3 with your entry.

The ChipYxa chiptune compo is due for another edition. And this time around there's also a theme to be reckoned with.

Breakpoint 2010 - Like there's no tomorrow

So here we are, it's 2010, and another edition of world's biggest pure demoscene event is going to happen again during the easter weekend (April 2nd to 5th) at Breakpoint.

The thing that's going to be different this year is not a little thing: This will be the last Breakpoint ever. For those of you who said "I will go there one day" or "maybe I'll attend", this is the last f***ing chance to experience the unique demoparty feeling at Breakpoint! Be there or be never there again! Get your asses over to Germany, come there and enjoy the best 4 days of your life.

ExChipO returns after the first edition (#0) held in 2007, and is organized by Silent. It is aimed at chip music for various platforms and limitations, covering PC modules, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, NES, and executable music.

Alternative Party 2009 bring two very special guests to Finland this year, the ARM designer Sophie Wilson and electronics specialist Jeri Ellsworth.

At Alternative Party, Sophie Wilson will tell about her early days at Acorn Computers. She designed the ARM and its successors became the most popular processors in many kinds of low-power computer systems from Internet routers to music players, PDAs and mobile phones.

Party visitors will have the chance to see the prototype for the Acorn System One, the very earliest of the Acorns.

Jeri Ellsworth is a self-taught computer chip designer. In 2004, she designed Commodore 30-in-1 Direct to TV - a C64 emulator built into a joystick, capable of playing 30 famous C64 titles - and expandable to a full Commodore 64 computer system.

At the Alternative Party Jeri Ellsworth is going to do an episode for her internet reality tv: The Fat Man and Circuit Girl. The episode will be broadcast on live.

Here are some additional facts:

- Fully licenced bar with a range of beers and spirits.
- Full Kitchen including pizza, pasta's and all kinds of snacks!
- Approx 35 computer places (powered) + Couch chill area.
- Local Area Party Network. Limited 3G internet access only.

Yay

Tomorrow is the Outline Demoparty in the Netherlands. It runs for 4 days (Thursday - Sunday)

It's situated in a remote part of the Netherlands, and I'm not kidding when I say REMOTE, there is not even Internet there. So hopefully if all goes well at least we may be having a UMTS mobile internet connection to share (weee so slow!).

Anyway, I'll be there and will be meeting up with a few of friends I met at Breakpoint as well as many more.
