Tricks to Rename Multiple files

In your computer, if you want to rename multiple files at once, like an array, this trick will be very useful.

Windows XP lets you rename files in bulk by simply selecting multiple files within Windows Explorer and pressing the F2 key. When you use this feature, the OS applies the name you enter to the first file and applies the same name with a number in parentheses to the other files you selected (the file extensions remain unchanged).

For example, if you select the following files,
* pics.jpg
* notes.txt
* myname.rtf
* music.mp3

and rename the first file (pics.jpg) to sample.doc, XP renames the remaining files as follows:
* Sample (1).jpg
* Sample (2).txt
* Sample (3).rtf
* Sample (4).mp3

When we browse images in the explorer, the thumbnail size of the picture's is too small or too big and the quality of the thumbnail is not good, it is possible to make our own thumbnail size and make the thumbnails display in high quaility.

To do this it is required to edit the registry, so it is better to make the registry backup.

1. open the registry editor - start->run-> regedit

2. navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft \ Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer

3. create two new DWord Value by right clicking and select "new->DWORD value" and name one as "ThumbnailSize" and other as "ThumbnailQuality"

4. select Decimal Value and set values for both, ThumbnailSize can have values 32 - 256 and Thumbnail Quaility can have values 50 - 100.

5. open any folder and change the view to Thumbnail and see the difference.

Step1: Open Run Window..

Accessing Your Folders From Your Taskbar

This is an easy way to get to the folders on your system without having to open a Windows Explorer Window every time you want to access files. I find it very useful to have this feature as it allows me to access my Folders and Drives immediately and saves me a lot of time.

This works in Windows XP,Windws 7,Windows 8

1. Right Click an empty spot on your Taskbar (Between your Start Button and your System Tray).

2. Click Toolbars.

3. Click New Toolbar.

4. A Small Window will Open that allows you to pick the folder you wish to make a Toolbar. If you want to access your Desktop Without having to minimize all your windows. Just Pick Desktop. If you want to access ONLY your My Documents Folder, Select that. Any folder will work for this.

5. Click OK.

The New Tool bar will appear at the bottom of your screen next to your System Tray.

If you find this to be not useful, Repeat Steps 1 and 2 and then check click the Toolbar you created that has a check mark next to it. And it will disappear.

Step 2: You will have your recently visited links poped up, now click the “Most Visited” link in the poped up window.

Remove watermark from an image or picture

A watermark is any recognizable text, logo or pattern that appears over an image to identify the owner of the image and generally used to prevent unauthorized reuse of the image. Watermarks are usually transparent and can be difficult to remove. The difficulty or ease of removal depends on the content of the image and the position, color, size etc of the watermark.

There are several resources out there that teaches you how to remove watermark from pictures, but most of them are old. Although these guides are still relevant, in light of some new tools that has recently become available in our hands, I decided a new guide was necessary. Hence this tutorial.

Removing water mark using Photoshop CS5

The new iteration of Photoshop, Creative Suite 5 or CS5 in short, includes some handy tools that really helps in such tasks as removing watermarks.It’s called Content Aware Fill.

For our example we will use an image from iStockPhoto and try to remove the watermark right across the face of the image.

Disclaimer: The use of materials from iStockphoto is for illustrative purposes only. We do not encourage stealing of copyrighted images from iStockphoto or from any other sources.

Open the image in Photoshop CS5, and select the “Spot Healing Brush Tool” from the toolbar. You can also press J to select it.

Select the option Content Aware Fill on the toolbar at the top.

Press [ or ] to increase or decrease the size of the brush as required, and carefully paint it over the watermark.

Release it, and the line is gone.

If the result is unsatisfactory, undo it or go back in History and repeat. Use the smallest brush size as possible to get good results.

For larger areas we will use the lasso tool. Select the watermark to remove using the Lasso Tool (L). Notice that I selected only a part of the watermark. This is because the image behind the watermark is not uniform. To get the best results work with small areas of the watermark. In this example, I left out the horn of the skull since it has a different texture.

Now press D. Make sure “Content Aware” is selected under “Use” and press OK.

Remember, you can always undo and repeat the steps. Here is the final result with the complete watermark removed. Not perfect but passable.

Removing water mark using GIMP

GIMP too has a Content Aware Fill type feature which can be added to the software using plug-ins.

Download the Resynthesizer plugin and copy the executable called resynthesizer.exe to gimp-2.0\lib\gimp\plug-ins\ directory.

Download this script (from Newslily) and copy it to
gimp-2.0\share\gimp\scripts\

Restart GIMP to reload the scripts.

Open the image on GIMP and using the lasso tool to select the watermark. Again notice that I’m doing this by selecting smaller chunks of area and not the entire logo.

Now click on Filters>Enhance>Heal Selection.

Specify the radius to take the selection from. The default is 50 and should work fine. If it doesn’t, play around with the radius until you get the desired result. Once the heal is applied, the watermark should be gone.

Carry on with the rest of the image carefully selecting the areas to remove. This is the final result. Not bad, right?

So which is better: GIMP or Photoshop?

Neither is perfect and both performs similarly. Sometimes GIMP gives better control as you have the option to specify the cloning radius. On the other hand, Photoshop gives you the option of different modes – Multiply, darken, etc. The Spot Healing Brush tool is also easier to operate on tiny areas than the lasso tool.

Use which ever you are comfortable working with.

Before changing to Google Public DNS you need to make note of all your settings that we are going to change this will help you to restore your settings in case if you want to change back to your default settings.......

    After hitting on the "Change the Adapter Settings" new window opens and will display the available networks connected to the computer
    Now select the connection to which you want to configure the Google DNS.
    If your are using any wired internet connection right click on the "Local-Area-Connetion" and select the "Properties"
    And if you are using the "Wireless internet connection" Right Click on the "Wireless Network Connection" and then hot on the "Properties"
    You will be asked the Administration password to continue(if you have assigned the password to the administration account)
    When you open the "Properties"----Switch to "Networking" Tab
    In Networking Tab you need to double click on the "Internet Protocol Version 4" or Internet Protocol Version 6" based on the type of the connection you are using....
    If you don't know what type of connection you are using better to contact your "Internet Service Provider"
    In most of the cases it will be "Internet Protocol Version 4"
    After Selecting the type of internet connection hit on the "Properties"
    Now Click on the "Advanced" button and switch to the "DNS" tab
    Here make a note of all the settings in a piece of paper
    After making note of all the Settings you need to replace them with the Google DNS IP Address mentioned above
    Now after entering the DNS Settings you can save and restart the internet connection

Testing the Connection in Windows 7

    You need to check the settings that everything is right or not
    Open Your "Command Promote" (windows+r then type cmd)
    After opening the Command promote enter the following command "tracert -d 8.8.8.8"
    If where things goes right then you will be able to see the same 8.8.8.8 in the last line leave about the numbers in between the first loop and last loop
    And there is one more step to check the connection
    Again in the command promote type the "nslookup -debug 8.8.8.8"
    If you get the "Answer" with record of the host name then every thing is right and you can enjoy the speeder internet.......

oday I planned to share a very common and useful thing, i.e, how to create movie subtitles with just a notepad. Generally, when there is a language difference, subtitles are used for better understanding of movie's conversations. A specific type of file format called .srt file are globally used for movie subtitles. Today I am going to tell you how to create a .srt file using notepad.

What is .srt file ?
.srt file stands for SubRip Text files. It contains simple formatted text data which was first written in France. The data in the .srt file is written in the following format.

Subtitle number
Start time --> End time
Subtitle texts
Blank line

The Start time and End time are written in hours:minutes:seconds,milliseconds format.

How to write ?

    To create a subtitle just open your notepad and start editing it as per the video.
    Just see the below example and you will have a better understanding.

Explaining the code ?

    The text is not at all difficult to understand. It has been written in plain text but with a specific format.
    You just need to be careful about the timing. For example I can tell you, if you play the above .srt file, the dialog "Oh sorry, I really forgot to go there ?" will come at 24 second 900 millisecond and will stay on screen upto 27 second 700 millisecond.
    So you just play your movie and side by side go on adding as much dialog as you want in the notepad by setting proper time.

Here’s my open MS Word document that will be taken through some deliberate steps to demonstrate the ‘life-saving’ feature that’s present in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint (MS Office 2010 only).

After closing the Word file unwittingly, open up a new MS Word document again. Go to File – Info – Manage Versions. Click on the little dropdown and select Recover Unsaved Documents. In Excel 2010 click on Recover Unsaved Workbooks or Recover Unsaved Presentations if you are in PowerPoint 2010.

MS Word opens the location where a copy of the draft resides.

Now, it’s just a matter of selecting the draft, opening it up as a fresh MS Word document and saving it properly using the Save As button on the business bar at the top of the document; something which we ‘forgot ‘to do the last time around. Copies of unsaved documents are kept for four days and then they are automatically deleted.

While opening the unsaved document, you can also make use of the Open& Repair feature for troubleshooting documents that might have got corrupted or damaged.

When the Internet launched operationally in 1983, its creators never dreamed that there might be billions of devices and users trying to get online. Yet now, almost three decades later, that same Internet serves nearly 2.5 billion people and 11 billion devices across the globe. And we're running out of space.
In order to connect to the Internet, each device has to have an IP address—a numerical label which identifies every computer, phone, tablet, ebook reader, etc. IP addresses allow machines to find and communicate with each other online–without them you couldn't check your email, visit websites or watch videos. But like a telephone network that is running out of phone numbers, the current Internet is running out of IP addresses.

The Internet we've relied on so far has space for 2^32 addresses—about 4.3 billion. The new, larger IPv6 expands the limit to 2^128 addresses—more than 340 trillion, trillion, trillion! Enough for essentially unlimited growth for the foreseeable future. Without the rollout of Internet Protocol v6 (IPv6), which formally begins today for participating websites and other organizations on the web, we won’t have the room we need to grow.

In February 2011, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) ran out of addresses to allocate to the Regional Internet Registries. While some of your devices may already share a single address (your home router acts like a switchboard for your home's devices), if IPv6 isn't implemented you'd soon have to share a single address with multiple people or even a whole neighborhood. This tangled, constrained Internet would be unsafe and unsustainable.

Today's World IPv6 Launch, coordinated by the Internet Society, marks the day that participating websites, Internet Service Providers (ISP), and network hardware manufacturers switch on IPv6 permanently in parallel with IPv4. Facebook is rumored to make another major acquisition after Instagram. That's what the reports from Pocket-Link.com claims, that it had a tip from unnamed sources. They claim that Facebook is going to purchase Opera Software, the makers of the long running Opera web browser.

Details are few, but the story claims that Facebook wants to compete in the web browser space that already has Microsoft, Google, Apple and Mozilla among its participants. The company recently fetched Mark Zuckerberg $1 Billion by entering the US stock market. Zuckerberg now has enough money to play and is looking through various fields to invest them.

The Opera web browser has always been well behind, at least in terms of market share, in the PC web browser market. Both Net Applications and Stats Counter show that Opera is fifth in use on the PC behind Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Safari. However, Opera has found some attraction as a mobile web browser. Facebook is all about mobility now, and they could see buying Opera Software as a short cut towards making a browser that would compete in the smartphone and tablet space.

Facebook has also been on a buying spirit in the past few weeks, either acquiring the teams behind app companies or, in the case of Instagram, offering to buy the entire company for $1 billion. They have even bought lots of patent rights from Microsoft. It's unknown how much Facebook would be willing to pay for Opera Web Browser, but it certainly has a bigger history than a lot of other software companies. Internet is managing to reach every part of the globe in some manner, including countries with restrictive governmental regimes, like North Korea. As the number of internet users increase, so too do the numbers associated with their traffic.

Cisco estimates this, and the figures they have produced are quite astonishing to look at. By 2015, they expect that global internet traffic will reach the zettabyte threshold annually. What is a zettabyte? 966 exabytes. What is an exabyte? About 1,000,000 terabytes

In a normal month during 2015 they're expecting 80.5 exabytes of global IP traffic. Assuming they're accurate, internet speeds will continue to increase, and this figure likely also will.

In the space of five years, global IP traffic has increased eightfold. Given five years more the figure we're currently at will increase fourfold. Between 2010 and 2015 they expect a compounded annual growth rate of 32%.

In 2015 they're expecting the gigabyte equivalent of every movie ever made to cross global networks.... every five minutes. The number of devices connected to the internet will be double the global population figure of the time.

The figures and facts keep coming, and they're all very hard to comprehend. The sheer amount of traffic involved in a single zettabyte is staggering. Let's try and get an idea of what you could do with zettabytes.

If every piece of speech was digitized as 16kHz, 16-bit audio, you'd need roughly 42 zettabytes, according to Mark Liberman. Liberman's statistic is not just based on one person's speech, but on everything anyone has ever spoken. Small-talk with your colleagues, legendary film scenes like Charlie Chaplin's speech in The Great Dictator (and all the cut versions of these scenes), and the inane, ranting speeches of tyrants and dictators. All of this would work into 42 zettabytes. The Internet was estimated to be 546 exabytes in size in 2009. That's only half of a zettabyte. You could download the entire Internet to a zettabyte hard drive, and still have plenty of space left over for no good reason, assuming such a hard drive would exist.

There is only one size larger than the zettabyte, and that is the yottabyte, but the figure is so astronomically high it would be impossible to even attempt to convey it in human terms. Assuming you saved a yottabyte's worth of information to 64GB microSD cards, the stack of microSDs would weigh just under 4,000,000 tons; roughly two thirds of the Great Pyramid of Giza's weight. There are not many ways of depicting the sheer size of the number, but when you think about the inevitable increase beyond 2015, you'll see just how critical the internet has been and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.
