So another Ludum Dare 48 Hour Coding Competition has been held & Notch the creator of Minecraft entered again. This time he made a game called Minicraft which can be best described as a much simpler 2D version of Minecraft. It's written in Java & the complete source can be downloaded from the previous link.

Recently I've been watching Notch create a game in 48 hours on Justin.tv for the Ludum Dare competition.

At times during the Live broadcast he would use an additional application to create Sound-effects for his game. After a little searching I discovered that the app he was using was itself created for the competition back in 2007.

It's called sfxr & was developed by Tomas Pettersson. It's remarkable lightweight & really simple to use. Just one-click can generate a new random sound which can then be saved in the .WAV format.

Torchlight is an RPG game developed by the makers of Diablo. It's been available on PC & Mac for some time but tomorrow it is released for the Xbox 360 @ 1200 MSP & I'll definitely be getting it.

YouTube Problem

Have you ever had a problem on YouTube where you can't subscribe to a channel?

There are many theories as to why you can't subscribe such as you may have subscribed to over 20 videos in an hour or that you might have reached the maximum number of subscriptions, which is apparently 2,000.

These theories don't seem to be correct as within a few hours I can subscribe again, the problem seems to be caused by maintenance work being carried out on the servers.

Alps Touchpad in Ubuntu

I've recently brought a netbook computer which I installed Ubuntu Linux on. Everything worked fine except for the fact that the touchpad is incorrectly recognised as an ImPS/2 Generic mouse. This is extremely annoying as the 'tap to click' functionality of the touchpad can't be turned off.

Apparently a lot of people have reported the same bug here on launchpad but there is no solution yet.

SMPlayer

In the past I've encountered problems playing MP4 files on my computer.

I've tried many different media solutions such as K-Lite & VLC but they've still caused trouble like playing sound but no video.

I have now uninstalled all the other media players on my computer & use SMPlayer which has dealt with every file I've thrown at it so far.

Two useful websites I've found recently are Userscripts.org & imo instant messenger.

The former is a site where a lot of useful web scripts can be downloaded, while the latter is an instant messenger site which also has an extension for the Chrome browser here.
