Computer Clubs Camp 2011

What it is

Let's put a whole heap of computer nerds in one place for a weekend and see what happens! We'll make sure there's non-sucky internet, the rest is up to the people attending. Lanning will definitely happen, but there will also be some people there who are doing hardware/software hacking and coding. Besides that, it's just a great chance to meet some like-minded people and network.

Timing

Start on the night of Friday, September 30. Stay Saturday and Sunday, and then leave Monday morning. This means the camp is happening over a weekend and we don't have to line up holidays/long-weekends across 3 universities.

Location

Woodman Point Recreation Camp, Munster. Specifically, the Spinifex building. We we will also rent out the recreation hall as well @ $100 per day, and have to pay $50 for the initial setup of the power distribution.

Meals

Like Ern Halliday, Woodman Point doesn't permit you to do your own catering. This is because the company that normally does the catering there has fitted out the kitchen with all their own gear.

Friday dinner: pizza from dominoes
Saturday breakfast: continental breakfast
Saturday lunch: people drive down to shops for lunch
Saturday dinner: hot dinner, no dessert
Sunday breakfast: continental breakfast
Sunday lunch: BBQ (cooked on day area bbq's)
Sunday dinner: hot dinner, no dessert
Monday morning: people get breakfast themselves on the way home or at home
Total Cost per person for meals: $57.80

Note everything is included in the cost for except Saturday lunch

Accomodation

Dorms, $23 per person per night. Minimum charge of $600 per night. So we are aiming for at least 26 people. We are hoping to get as many people as we can from ComSSA but UCC will cover the rest if 26 people cannot be reached. The capacity of the venue is only 60, so it's first come, first served.

Total cost:

The total cost per person for the camp is $126.80. If there is interest for this camp the committee will subsidize the cost.

**People who are members of multiple clubs must buy tickets through the club they are primarily a member of.

This camp is a fantastic oppurtunity to network and have fun with Computing Students outside of Curtin.

The 2009 AGM was very successful, with many new faces applying for positions, over 25 members attending and voting going without a hitch - although many of the results were very close!

ComSSA AGM and Call for Candidates

ComSSA AGM

On the 28th of October ComSSA will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM), at 12:30pm in the Common Room (314.238).
All members are expected to attend, and this year promises to be an interesting meeting with our long time president retiring from the committee. So please come along and have your voice heard for the future of ComSSA.

Call for candidates

With the President retiring, next year’s committee has the opportunity to have fresh faces among the executives. If you believe that you can fill any of the executive positions (President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary) then we invite you to apply by emailing the ComSSA Committee. Only current computing students (ie students whose course is being run by the Department of Computing) are eligible to become executives. Please also ensure that you attend on the day and that you have a speech prepared (a decent speech can get you very far...). All applications must be in by 5pm on the 27th of October.

Call for OCMs

If you don’t think that leading the ComSSA committee is your calling, but you’d still like to help out, then we’d certainly like for you to become a ComSSA OCM. OCMs keep the club working, run events and enjoy a number of perks – it’s also an excellent stepping stone for anyone thinking of applying as an executive later. OCMs are not required to apply via email, but must be present at the AGM and will be required to volunteer once the new executives are selected.

Magic Tournament (Again...)

ComSSA is unofficially hosting a Magic the Gathering Tournament!
Come along and play to win a prize (and bragging rights) or just for fun.
Remember this is a tournament, not a draft, so you will need to bring your own deck.

Format: Legacy (Card restrictions)

Date: 26/08/09 (Wednesday of the week off)

Entry Fee: $5
Prizes: Prize structure will be released at the tournament, but prizes themselves will be packs of the latest set, Alara Reborn

Special:

For the tournament we are allowing up to 4 proxies per deck, proxies must be printed with picture and sleeved.
No deck list will be required to be submitted, we're assuming that you're all trustworthy and won't cheat.
Please note that we will NOT be using the new revision of rules released by Wizards.
