Eking Shows Multitouch MID Render

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Eking is a company that doesn’t ring any bells, at least not to us, but apparently they’re preparing a new UMPC/MID, available as a render now. The concept MID relies on the Intel Atom platform and should pack a 5 inch 1024 x 600 multitouch display made by Sharp. WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and 3G support are also on board.

The device’s display is able to slide and tilt and underneath it you’ll find a full QWERTY keyboard. Also, the UMPC can be used when closed, thanks to its bezel controls. Expect this unit to run Windows 7, if it becomes real and we must mention there’s also a webcam included upfront.

Nokia Shows Its Sharpest Phone Sketches: You Pick One!

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Nokia’s Design by Community initiative is back with 3 phone sketches, that show the future device that the Finns will turn into a real 3D unit. The design is subject to public vote over here, but you can leave an input in the comment section below, too, if you want. We remind you that Nokia’s designers have taken into account all of the public’s feedback and created these 3 handsets.

There was a specifications list to serve as a guide to the designers and it included a 4 inch capacitive 16:9 display, a monoblock shape, aluminium case, soft touch finish, super strength durability and an open source OS with multitasking (unlimited).

Also on the list you can find a power button, camera zoom and volume button controls, WiFi 802.11 n/b/g support, USB connectivity, HDMI out and Dolby Surround Sound.

As far as the camera is concerned, there should be an 8 megapixel sensor incorporated into the phone, with 4X optical zoom, dual LED and Xenon flash, plus HD video capture. The enhancements section mentions a kinetic power booster, surround speakers, flash memory and an upgradable image sensor. Which of these sketches do you favour?

We have to say we’re very much into the first one…

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Jonathan De Jesus created the Crescent Sentinel HT1 double screen phone concept, pictured below and featuring some interesting specs. Although we don’t quite understand much from this design, we’re pleased with the details regarding the device: 2GHz CPU, Windows 7 or Google interface and more.

It’ll also support 4G connectivity, WiFi, thumb recognition and an incorporate an iris scanner. Its keyboard will be an LED one and the handset will be as thin as the iPhone. Future Crescent phones created by Jonathan De Jesus might rely on holographic technology.

As far as security is concerned, the phone will come with a tracking device inside, so once you visit the crescentmobile site, you’ll discover the location of your handset. What do you think about this device?

NAK HD is a Dual Core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon-Based Smartphone

The line between MID, tablet and smartphone is blurred by the new NAK HD handset, pictured below and packed with the best of specs. The 11mm thick machine relies on a dual core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and uses two displays.

The front screen is a 4.5 inch AMOLED multitouch capacitive display, while the internal display measures 4.8 inches in diagonal and it’s a LED non-touchscreen unit with a 16:9 ratio. NAK HD also features 1GB RAM, 1GB ROM, 16GB internal memory, a microSD card slot, an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, a front videocall camera and HDMI out.

The keyboard uses 52 keys, plus trackball and as far as connectivity is concerned, the concept supports WiFi, 3G, 4G and Bluetooth. A 1800 mAh battery powers this monster up. In my mind three companies would make such a great device: Motorola, HTC or Dell. Which one would do a better job and what OS would you choose for NAK HD: Windows Phone 7 or Android 2.2?

LG Exo Phone, a Sustainable and Durable Handset

Yes, the LG Exo is a resilient piece of gadgetry with a high strength polymer exosketelon that protects its inner parts and supports the external rubber skin.

Exo comes with a curved body, enhanced ergonomics and great strength. It also incorporates a flexible OLED display, making the phone even more resilient to shocks and interactions. Overall, this LG handset is able to withstand any kind of damage, thanks to its external shell, always kept in pristine conditions.

Underneath the rock-hard case, you’ll find a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon CPU and the device’s specs list also includes a 5 megapixel wide angle camera, a high power Lithium Ion battery and a 3.8 inch OLED display. Viable or not?

XPERIA XTab, Smartphone Concept Becomes a Tablet

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Esato board user juris15 created a bunch of fine XPERIA concepts lately and now he turns to the tablet segment, creating the XPERIA XTab device. The slate is not big enough to be called a true tablet, but it’s in the range of the Dell Streak and other similar products. As you can see, it sports a sliding QWERTY keyboard and an incredibly slim design.

I’m not so sure about the tablet’s front side, as it doesn’t look that convincing, specially with the front buttons looking like they were drawn in a hurry. Also, the colour choice could have been different. With some minor facade modifications this Sony Ericsson tablet could be worth a shot.

HTC HD Pro is a Worthy HTC HD2 Successor

This HTC concept looks like Windows Phone 7 material and we learn that it comes with an aluminum body, with a glass panel at the back, used to protect the camera lens. Said protection is due to “an electrochromic film”.

The smartphone design is only 11.5mm thick and the screen is a 4.3 inch capacitive display, the same size of the HTC HD2 screen. There’s also a 1500 mAh battery in the mix and you get all the connectivity options you need on the HTC HD Pro: 3.5mm audio jack, a microUSB port and a mini HDMI out for external display connections.

This device was created by Jukah and you can check out his Deviantart portofolio here, if you’re interested. Keep in mind that this designer also intends to create a Google Nexus Two and HTC HD3 concept, so we’ll keep him under observation. Great job, for now!

Nokia Kinetic Concept is Able to Stand Up On its Own!

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.British designer Jeremy Hopkins decided to create an unique phone concept, Nokia Kinetic, that turns digital information into kinetic energy. What does this mean? Well, basically, the phone will stand up on its own, once you get a notification, thanks to a kinetic energy-based system.

This is a 2009 design, with the Nokia phone using a classic mini USB port, a camera, speaker and a bulky lower side. The front side looks like a hybrid between the N81 and iPhone 4 and if you’re wondering about the whole “standing up” thing, know that the device relies on an electromagnet. This mechanism is placed at its based and shifts the phone’s weight, to keep it upright.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA XTX1 Pro Adds a QWERTY Keyboard to the Original Design

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Esato board user juris15 decided to add something extra to his XPERIA XTX1 concept phone, so he created a Pro version, that sports a QWERTY keyboard. The device still packs a 12 megapixel camera, accompanied by flash, HD video capture and, if we’re not mistaking, modified front keys beneath the screen.

The display on the XTX1 Pro looks great and it’s got to be at least 3.7 inches in diagonal. The XPERIA also comes with a front camera and it sliding keyboard looks pretty usable, although it’s strange that the screen part is smaller than the keyboard part.

We wonder how the screen segment looks like when using the camera and sliding this part…
