CAHD benefit concert raises over $5,000

A benefit concert for the Centre for the Arts in Human Development (CAHD), presented in November 2011 by the Applied Human Sciences Student Association, raised over $5000 for the Fine Arts research centre. A benefit concert for the Centre for the Arts in Human Development (CAHD), presented in November 2011 by the Applied Human Sciences Student Association, raised over $5000 for the Fine Arts research centre.

According to CAHD Executive Director Lenore Vosberg, the event was a great success.

"The interaction between the Centre performers and the performing students from Concordia demonstrated genuine integration. We are very pleased and grateful that the Applied Human Sciences Student Association of Concordia took the initiative to organize this important event on the Loyola campus. We are hoping this will be an annual event and that further collaboration with this student - run association will facilitate more awareness at the University of the Centre and its unique creative arts therapies program for people with special needs."

The event raised funds which will be used toward the production costs of the CAHD's upcoming June 2012 original cultural ethnodrama production. Directed by Creative Arts Therapies associate professor Stephen Snow, this unique piece of theatre is based on the lives of Centre participants and the importance of culture in their lives.

June 14, 2012 at 8 p.m. (gala performance), June 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Bonnie Harnden is a drama therapist/art therapist and is completing her training as a psychoanalyst. Her research focuses on adolescents with borderline personality disorder and on performance auto-ethnography. Her clinical practice is centered around families and individuals.

Jason D. Butler, MA, RDT/BCT
Assistant Professor
Jason Butler specializes in several forms of drama therapy with various populations, including adolescents, the homeless, and the chronic mentally ill. He has served as Communications Chair for the National Association for Drama Therapy.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, March 2, 2012 before 5:00 pm

View the posting in the Creative Arts Therapies department. All candidates applying for part-time teaching must use the "Concordia University - Part-time Teaching Application Form" (Appendix H) in accordance with article 10.10 of the CUPFA collective agreement. This form is available at http://www.concordia.ca/hr/relations/agreements/ and must be received in the department by March 2, 2012 before 5:00 pm. A hard copy of the application must also be submitted to the Association.

If you are applying for a course that you have not taught at Concordia before, please include separate documentation demonstrating your qualifications in that area, and your c.v.

All available teaching positions across the university are visible on the Job Opportunities page of the Concordia University Human Resources site.

As specified in Article 10.01 a) of the CUPFA Collective Agreement:
"Only applicants who are defined as Canadian per the definition below at the time of application for a part-time contract shall be given consideration by the PTHC. 'Canadian' means a person who is a citizen of Canada, or who on the date of application for a part-time contract at Concordia University is a permanent resident. Non-Canadians shall only be eligible to receive Reserve Courses as per Article 10.24 and Schedule X, and therefore shall be classified as Adjuncts or Graduate Students."

Jeremy Waller is the Artistic Director of Craning Neck Theatre. He is a director, playwright, and dramaturge.This 6-hour workshop will begin with an exploration of traditional Authentic Movement, giving ample time for participants to acclimatize to the original practice before diving in to some of its performance-based applications. Once a solid grounding in the basic technique is established, a simple creation seed/text will be introduced as we move into theme work, digging for information about the world of the seed, the themes and motifs mined from the moving and witnessed body. In a similar way we will learn new methods of creating character, giving flesh and blood, impulse, dreams and history, in remarkably quick fashion to otherwise two-dimensional entities. In the last segment of the workshop we will look at these tools from the point of view of the director, learning techniques to sculpt raw discoveries into highly scored sections of movement, to identify and manipulate motifs and saturated images, and to discern the different uses and impacts of physical versus psychological activation of source material. Finally, a brief overview will be given on how other practices such as Viewpoints and Composition work can dovetail into Authentic Movement as further honing tools toward creation.
