CAHD benefit concert raises over $5,000

A benefit concert for the Centre for the Arts in Human Development (CAHD), presented in November 2011 by the Applied Human Sciences Student Association, raised over $5000 for the Fine Arts research centre. A benefit concert for the Centre for the Arts in Human Development (CAHD), presented in November 2011 by the Applied Human Sciences Student Association, raised over $5000 for the Fine Arts research centre.

According to CAHD Executive Director Lenore Vosberg, the event was a great success.

"The interaction between the Centre performers and the performing students from Concordia demonstrated genuine integration. We are very pleased and grateful that the Applied Human Sciences Student Association of Concordia took the initiative to organize this important event on the Loyola campus. We are hoping this will be an annual event and that further collaboration with this student - run association will facilitate more awareness at the University of the Centre and its unique creative arts therapies program for people with special needs."

The event raised funds which will be used toward the production costs of the CAHD's upcoming June 2012 original cultural ethnodrama production. Directed by Creative Arts Therapies associate professor Stephen Snow, this unique piece of theatre is based on the lives of Centre participants and the importance of culture in their lives.

June 14, 2012 at 8 p.m. (gala performance), June 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: F. C. Smith Auditorium, Concordia University (Loyola Campus), 7141 Sherbrooke St. W., Montreal
Cost: $50 for gala performance / $20 for regular performances.

The Applied Human Sciences Student Association will be hosting a benefit concert for the Centre for the Arts in Human Development. The concert will feature performers who are participants at the Centre for the Arts in Human Development performing alongside Concordia students, in a truly cooperative and integrated show. The aim is to raise funds toward the costs of mounting the next musical show in June 2012. There will also be useful handmade articles for sale. Please support this initiative and bring your friends!

Event description:

The Centre for the Arts in Human Development at Concordia University is an educational, clinical and research centre serving adults with developmental disabilities and other special needs populations.

As part of the centre's public outreach program, the Open House will provide visitors with an experiential opportunity to discover the nature of the creative arts therapies used in the unique therapeutic program offered at the centre. Learn more about the centre and its programs through workshops and exhibitions.

Ethnodrama Workshop

In March 2011, during Concordia University's Creative Arts Therapies week, Centre for the Arts in Human Development co-founder Stephen Snow and collaborator Maud Gendron-Langevin led a workshop entitled Exploring a New Model for Diversity Training Through Drama Therapy, Ethnodrama and Playback Theatre. In March 2011, during Concordia University's Creative Arts Therapies week, Centre for the Arts in Human Development co-founder Stephen Snow and collaborator Maud Gendron-Langevin led a workshop entitled Exploring a New Model for Diversity Training Through Drama Therapy, Ethnodrama and Playback Theatre.

The workshop demonstrated an experiential process that examines now prejudices and stigmatization evolves in regards to a given group will be implemented through Drama Therapy and Playback Theatre methods. A model for research techniques will be explored in relation to a documentary film of a four-year Ethnodrama project at The Centre for the Arts in Human Development. Discussion of how this systemized methodology could be employed with diverse populations took place after the experiential and research components were also presented.

The Arts and Science Federation of Associations celebrated the arts in November 2010 with participation from Concordia students and participants from the Centre for the Arts in Human Development.
The Concordia University Arts and Science Federation of Associations celebrated the arts in November 2010 with participation from Concordia students and participants from the Centre for the Arts in Human Development. Performances included a variety of musical numbers. Proceeds from the event were donated to the Centre.
