The recent rise of disasters in Pakistan and the consequent damages to life and property have shaken the nation. These unprecedented catastrophic incidents remind us to work tirelessly to meet successfully for the future challenges.

During the recent disasters in Azad Kashmir and devastating floods of river Indus have affected millions of people in Pakistan; leaving behind miserable heart touching stories. At the most difficult times of the national history, government agencies, humanitarian organizations and the people of Pakistan acted graciously and supported a large number of communities. All the organizations worked in every aspect of human need. We must be proud as a nation in claiming that We Delivered!!!

The role of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), particularly, appeared exceptionally outstanding. These organizations supported in addressing the rehabilitation issues of shelter, livelihood, education, health, women rights and other social support during the most difficult times of our history.

SSDN intends to focus the achievements of our organizations and invites the national and international experts to guide our organizations in shaping the future plan of action. In this respect SSDN shall hold Conferences on International level annually, and cater the Social Development Professionals at one platform from across Pakistan and the globe. Sessions shall be based on various aspects of the Conference theme, as well as generic topics that are of interest to Social Development professionals, academicians and students, etc.

SSDN now invites proposals for the 1st International Emergency Response Conference of its kind to be held in Karachi, on the theme “Pakistan: We delivered!!!” At the conference, contributors shall have the choice of presenting a paper, conducting a workshop, exhibition of success stories through pictorial presentation or a colloquium.

<title>3rd Global Conference: Making Sense of: Pain (May 2012: Prague, Czech Republic)</title>
			<link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/conference-directory/~3/jLhcE7YznEs/3rd-global-conference3a-making-sense-of3a-pain-may-20123a-prague-czech-republic.html</link>
			<description>3rd Global Conference
Making Sense of: Pain

Saturday 19th May – Monday 21st May 2012
Prague, Czech Republic

Call for Papers:
Pain and the body’s vulnerability to it are inevitable aspects of the experience of all sentient beings. Pain is universally feared. Many, if not all, fields of human activity have the potential to occasion pain – and much of what we do as individuals and/or collectivities involves our efforts to prevent, ameliorate, cure or avoid pain. Nonetheless, despite the unpleasantness and sometimes the agony of the experience of pain, we are also capable of enduring it. Depending on the context, we may do so willingly.

Yet there is also the dark side of pain: humans are capable of inflicting it and at times do so intentionally, for gain or enjoyment; they can also injure and hurt other beings through carelessness and disregard of their needs and comfort.

This interdisciplinary conference provides a forum for inquiry into the vicissitudes of pain: its nature and existential significance, and the many ways in which pain plays a part in our lives. Of concern, too, are the biological, social and interpersonal circumstances within which our reactions to pain occur.

The following themes are suggested as guides to the formulation of topics for papers and workshops:

1. The Nature and Evolution of Pain

2. Elaborations on Pain – in science, history, philosophy, literature and drama, art

3. Inflicting pain – torture, sadism, self-harm, neglect and disregard

4. Animals and pain – in nature and in culture

5. Pain through the lifecycle– variations on the theme from birth to death

6. Pain acceptance –martyrdom, childbirth, cosmetic surgery, work, performance (eg sport, music, dancing)

7. Perspectives on pain – patients’ and professionals’

8. Narratives of pain and palliation– managing, succeeding, failing to alleviate pain

9. Practices, philosophies and dilemmas of pain relief– personal, professional, cultural, economic, political (macro and micro)

10. Pain and Communication – expressing pain, understanding pain, describing pain, pain as metaphor, silences about pain

Papers will be considered on any related theme.

The Steering Group particularly welcomes the submission of pre-formed panel proposals. Papers will also be considered on any related theme. 300 word abstracts should be submitted by Friday 4th November 2011. If an abstract is accepted for the conference, a full draft paper should be submitted by Friday 9th March 2012. Abstracts should be submitted simultaneously to both Organising Chairs; abstracts may be in Word, WordPerfect, or RTF formats with the following information and in this order:

a) author(s), b) affiliation, c) email address, d) title of abstract, e) body of abstract, f) up to 10 keywords.
E-mails should be entitled: PAIN Abstract Submission.

Please use plain text (Times Roman 12) and abstain from using footnotes and any special formatting, characters or emphasis (such as bold, italics or underline). Please note that a Book of Abstracts is planned for the end of the year.
All accepted abstracts will be included in this publication. We acknowledge receipt and answer to all paper proposals submitted. If you do not receive a reply from us in a week you should assume we did not receive your proposal; it might be lost in cyberspace! We suggest, then, to look for an alternative electronic route or resend.

<title>The 2nd IEEE Internacional Workshop of Smart Communication Protocols and Algorithms (IEEE SCPA 2012</title>
			<link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/conference-directory/~3/wUv33QE6Jv8/the-2nd-ieee-internacional-workshop-of-smart-communication-protocols-and-algorithms-ieee-scpa-2012.html</link>
			<description>June 10-15, 2012, Ottawa, CANADA
In conjunction with IEEE ICC 2012
http://scpa.it.ubi.pt/2012

Selected papers will be invited to the Special Issue on Smart Protocols and Algorithms of the International Journal Network Protocols and Algorithms (ISSN 1943-3581)

Communication protocols and algorithms are needed to communicate network devices and exchange data between them. The appearance of new technologies usually comes with a protocol procedure and communication rules that allows data communication while taking profit of this new technology. Recent advances in hardware and communication mediums allow proposing new rules, conventions and data structures which could be used by network devices to communicate across the network. Moreover, devices with higher processing capacity let us include more complex algorithms that can be used by the network device to enhance the communication procedure.

Smart communication protocols and algorithms make use of several methods and techniques (such as machine learning techniques, decision making techniques, knowledge representation, network management, network optimization, problem solution techniques, and so on), to communicate the network devices to transfer data between them. They can be used to perceive the network conditions, or the user behavior, in order to dynamically plan, adapt, decide, take the appropriate actions, and learn from the consequences of its actions. The algorithms can make use of the information gathered from the protocol in order to sense the environment, plan actions according to the input, take consciousness of what is happening in the environment, and take the appropriate decisions using a reasoning engine. Goals such as decide which scenario fits best its end-to-end purpose, or environment prediction, can be achieved with smart protocols and algorithms. Moreover, they could learn from the past and use this knowledge to improve future decisions.

In this workshop, researchers are encouraged to submit papers focused on the design, development, analysis or optimization of smart communication protocols or algorithms at any communication layer. Algorithms and protocols based on artificial intelligence techniques for network management, network monitoring, quality of service enhancement, performance optimization and network secure are included in the workshop.

We welcome technical papers presenting analytical research, simulations, practical results, position papers addressing the pros and cons of specific proposals, and papers addressing the key problems and solutions. The topics suggested by the conference can be discussed in term of concepts, state of the art, standards, deployments, implementations, running experiments and applications.

Topics of interest:
