I have been rocking these head wraps for a minute thanks to Nubian Hueman in the Anacostia Arts Center so it is awesome that their building mate, The Den is hosting a head wrap class tonight as part of a series of workshops! I love this!

Hello Neighbors!

Did you know there is a $27 million campus right here in Ward 8 that was built for the children and adults living east of the river? Did you know that this place provides over $17.5 MILLION in services to this community every year? Did you know that membership at this place was FREE? Did you know that this place has the largest DC theater east of the Anacostia River and the largest urban farm?

Did you know that this special place was the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus AKA THEARC and that it is located at 1901 Mississippi Ave SE near Congress Heights?

Whether you knew the answers to these questions or not you should attend tomorrow night's community update meeting and get information on programs for children, teens, adults and seniors at THEARC. Many of these programs are free or low-cost. THEARC was built for you and you need to come and take advantage of it. It's not too late to sign the kids up for summer camps and adults, you should sign up for some of the great fitness classes such as pilates, barre, yoga or zumba which are offered every week! Classes are only $6 if you live in 20020 or 20032!

Tomorrow's meeting starts at 6pm and refreshments will be provided. There will also be drawings for gift cards! More reasons to attend! Please spread the word and see you tomorrow night!

No-cost community market comes to THEARC this Friday, 3-5pm! Join us!

Martha's Table and the Capital Area Food Bank return to THEARC to host the first of five Joyful Food Markets, free food community markets. Enjoy free & fresh fruits, veggies and more! Enjoy music, activities and take a tour of THEARC Farm! Farm tours are scheduled at 3:30pm, 4:00pm and 4:30pm.

No pre-registration required, no requirements to attend the markets. Joyful Food Markets are open to the public and food is available on a first come, first serve basis. Please bring your own bags and a smile! See below for a schedule of Joyful Food Markets at THEARC and around Ward 8. Have a great day!

THEARC is located at 1901 Mississippi Ave SE. Southern Avenue metro is the closest metro stop and a bus stop is on campus.

How does this happen? Why does this happen? Is it an issue of laziness of body, spirit or just apathy? We've experienced the symptoms but what is the cause of people who insist on littering their own community? Is this a generational issue, an economic issue or a mental issue? Thoughts?

I am including photos I took when I walked one square block in my neighborhood. While neighborhood advocates will have picked up the trash by the end of the day, a new crop of trash will appear overnight. How can we break the cycle?
