The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) already requires all travellers, including U.S. and Canadian citizens, to present a valid passport or NEXUS card when entering or exiting the U.S. by air. Additional WHTI identification requirements for entering the U.S. by land and water will come into effect on June 1, 2009. Read more.

The Public Health Agency of Canada is tracking a number of cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) (swine flu) identified in the United States. Please refer to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for current information on the number of cases and states affected. It is recommended that travellers follow the same precautionary measures as with seasonal influenza including receiving a seasonal flu vaccine, washing your hands often, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when ill....

Montreal wins U.S. award for BIXI bike network

The city of Montreal has won the U.S.-based Gold Edison Award in the Energy & Sustainability category for its BIXI bike network. BIXI is an innovative self-service bicycle rental system that offers Montreal reisdents more than 3,000 bicycles at numerous stations throughout the city.

A new law amending the Citizenship Act will come into effect on April 17, 2009. The new law will give Canadian citizenship to certain people who lost it and to others who will be recognized as citizens for the first time. A new law amending the Citizenship Act will come into effect on April 17, 2009. The new law will give Canadian citizenship to certain people who lost it and to others who will be recognized as citizens for the first time. Some people will not become citizens under the new law.
