We’d like to thank our customer Alan Blunt of Buckinghamshire for sending us these photos of his conservatory which was supplied by ConservatoryLand and built on ConservaBase. Click on the photos to enlarge.

This photo shows the brick cladded steel conservatory walls supported by the green oxide coated steel frame with adjustable feet. As you can see, the brick slips on the ConservaBase steel walls are an excellent match to the existing house brickwork. Mr Blunt has also installed a cat flap in the steel wall.

This photo shows the internal steel wall construction and the insulated moisture resistant timber floor.

The photo below shows the internal steel wall with plaster board and window board fitted. When finished, ConservaBase is totally indistinguishable from traditional conservatory base construction and can be completed with no mess and in a fraction of the time without the need for builders, skips or concrete lorries.

Finally, the photo below shows the hard work and mess created by constructing your conservatory base in the traditional way.

The DIY conservatory which we manufactured and supplied to him is a Hipped-Roof Lean-to, Full-Height Glass Model in Rosewood PVCu to the Outside and White PVCu to the Inside.

It features a Pilkington Activ Blue Self-Cleaning, Solar Control Glass Roof and Bi-Fold Doors to the Front.

Phil has installed his conservatory on a ConservaBase Steel Conservatory Base which we also manufactured and supplied to him.

Below is his testimonial and photographs.

Hi Adam

Please find attached photos as promised.

I’ve still not finished it completely, but it’s getting there.

After we fitted the first chipboard floor, we thought the room felt cold, and was a little dissapointed but after fitting the additional insulation and underfloor heating plus the additional chipboard floor it is now almost as warm as our house.

This now makes it a great 24/7 addition to our home.

You may notice in the snow, even though the heating is on, the snow is still on the roof, this means the insulation on the roof glass is working. As it’s warmer than expected we decided to remove the external patio doors to our lounge.

So we now have one ‘L’ shaped room 9 x 13 Meters. Our camera is not wide angled so it is not practical to show you but I’m pleased to say you have a very happy customer.

Have a Merry Christmas
Phil

ConservaBase Product Development – Is Aluminium or Plastic Possible?

Currently, we believe that our steel conservatory bases are the best on the market but that doesn’t mean they cannot be improved further.

A few aspects that we are currently looking at are the materials we use in the manufacture of our steel conservatory bases. The only issue we have with our steel bases is the weight. Although this is not an issue for our customers as we deliver them direct to their homes, it is an issue for our delivery staff, after all, steel is heavy.

A couple of things that we’re looking in to include aluminium conservatory bases and even plastic conservatory bases.

The issue here is strength. We believe that both aluminium conservatory bases and plastic conservatory bases are possible and subject to certain design elements are easily capable of doing the job.

The most important thing here is safety and structural integrity and we would never put an unsafe product or a product not suitable for its use on the market. Our ConservaBase system has been thoroughly tested by engineers with structural calculations carried out which demonstrate the incredibly high strength of ConservaBase and confirm its suitability for its intended purpose.

Aluminium conservatory bases and plastic conservatory bases are a thing for the future, they won’t happen overnight, but we’re working on it. Meanwhile, we’ll continue to manufacture and supply ConservaBase using steel materials until such a time that we’re confident that lighter materials become suitable.

Here’s a funny story I came across about a couple in Buckinghamshire that had quite a shock during their conservatory base construction.

It’s not everyday that you look out of the window to discover your garden looks like an H-Bomb has landed on it.

Unfortunately, for one couple this was the case when they moved into their brand new home and were undergoing some work on it.

The couple were shocked to discover that the 6 cu yd skip that they had ordered had been swallowed by their front garden.

Kate Scott and partner Paul Harding had ordered the skip hire as they were preparing to build a new conservatory.

They had just bought the house in Stokenchurch in Buckinghamshire and had moved in two weeks ago.

But they were left stunned on Sunday morning when they woke to find the six-yard skip had fallen into a giant hole measuring 15ft by 15ft.

Garden Swallows Skip During Conservatory Base Construction

They later discovered that the skip had sunk into a bunker beneath their lawn, which they had not known was there and had not come in the survey they had before they had bought the house.

Ms Scott, 37, said: ‘It was a massive shock, we just couldn’t believe it. The hole is about 20-foot-deep and takes up a third of our front garden

‘It’s really gutting as we only moved in two weeks ago.’

The couple, who have a nine-month-old baby Scott, ordered the skip to be delivered to their house on Friday evening.

They had arranged for builders to start their conservatory base construction on Sunday.

But when they woke at 6.30am on Sunday morning they were puzzled to find they had no water.

Mr Harding then looked out the window and saw the empty skip had fallen through their lawn into a gaping hole.

Kate, who is 30 weeks pregnant with twins, added: ‘We had to get another skip company to haul it out as the original company doesn’t work on a Sunday.

‘Normally Paul parks his van there. If the skip hadn’t been there, the van would have been.

‘Our biggest problem is we now have nowhere to park and we can’t use our front pathway. Fortunately our neighbours have been lovely and very helpful.’

The couple now hope their building insurance will resolve the problem and the conservatory base construction is on hold.

Keith Walker, of K&S Walker Skips, which pulled the skip out the ground, said: ‘I’ve never seen anything like this happen before.

‘The couple called me on the Sunday morning and we used chains to pull it out.

‘Luckily it was empty so it was a fairly easy task.’

Well thanks to Keith at K&S Skips who got up that Sunday to help out. The rest of us were sending up the zeds!

This story was taken from http://www.theskip.net/tag/funny-skip-story

Just a little note from ConservaBase

If Paul and Kate had used ConservaBase for their conservatory base construction, this wouldn’t have happened because they wouldn’t have needed a skip in the first place – or builders for that matter!

Conservatory base construction is probably the most feared aspect of installing DIY conservatories but with ConservaBase, it is incredibly quick and easy, in fact most of our steel conservatory bases can easily be completed in just 1 day.

ConservaBase is completely suitable for DIY assembly and totally eliminates the need for outside trades such as builders and bricklayers. It stands on a few strategically placed small concrete pads or foundation blocks (for which we supply a pad plan).

All the skill, hard work and mess that is normally associated with traditional (and now old-fashion) conservatory base construction is eliminated. With ConservaBase, the 2 or 3 fully welded steel sections (on an average sized base) simply bolt together and to the house wall making it the fastest, easiest, strongest and best steel conservatory base and modular wall system available.

Other benefits include:

No skips required as there is minimal earth excavation – just a few small holes to dig out and the soil is just spread out beneath the base

No concrete lorries at your home as there is minimal amount of concrete which can be purchased in bags from your local DIY store

No brick lorries at your home or bricks stacked up on your garden as our modular walls are delivered with real brick slips already factory-fitted

Complete conservatory base construction without turning your home in to a messy building site for weeks on end

ConservaBase provides strong, safe foundations for any conservatory, goes hand in hand with DIY conservatories, has been fully tested by structural engineers and structural calculations produced that confirm that it easily exceeds suitability for its use. Every ConservaBase is supplied with easy to follow instructions and a 25 year structural and anti-corrosion guarantee.

No matter what the size and shape of your conservatory or orangery, our steel conservatory bases are versatile enough to provide strong, safe and stylish foundations and walls.

Our steel base system is not just for dwarf walls either, just like our DIY conservatories, all our steel bases are made to measure and we manufacture many different designs to suit conservatories with:

Dwarf walls – normally 600mm high but can be any height

Three quarter height conservatory walls

Full height conservatory walls

Conservatory brick pillars – also suitable for orangery designs

Take a look at some of the steel base and wall designs that we manufacture on a regular basis:

Being a fully welded sectional design that simply bolts together and to the house wall, the average sized ConservaBase steel base can be installed in just one day, unlike other steel bases on the market which are supplied in bar lengths with hundreds of nuts and bolts which take 2 or 3 times longer or a conventional build which will take weeks.
