2013 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show – Credit: IAA.de

The IAA (Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung German for International Motor Show) is the largest automotive show in the world, and it covers both cars and commercial vehicles.

IAA Cars is held in Frankfurt, Germany in odd-numbered years, and IAA Commercial Vehicles is held in even-numbered years in Hannover, Germany.

2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show is 66th IAA Cars and it will be from September 17th to 27th, 2015.

This is recapCARS.com’s preview of 2015’s largest auto show the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show. This list will be updated as more information regarding the 2015 IAA entrants are revealed.

Here’s what we know so far:

2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia QV

Audi – The B9 Audi A4 will make its debut and the new Audi S4 will be unveiled at the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show. Audi will also showcase a Tesla Model X rival in form of an electric sporty crossover named Q6 which will follow the design language of the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and BMW X6.

Bentley – The Bentayga; Bentley’s first SUV will be unveiled at the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show. The new super SUV will be available to order with a Turbo V8 electric hybrid or a Turbo 6.0-Liter W12.

BMW – The new 7-series G11 and G12 (LWB – Long Wheel Base) will have its public debut, as well as the new X1 and refreshed 3-series. Boring so far, however the new BMW M6 GT3 race car will finally be shown without the camouflage and before I forget, the little BMW M2 will be unveiled too.

Borgward – The bankrupt German brand Borgward is making a comeback at the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show. They will be unveiling a new luxury hybrid SUV.

Ferrari – The 2016 Ferrari 488 Spider aka GTS will have its public debut as the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, but all eyes will be on the unveiling of the hardcore Ferrari F12 GTO aka Speciale.

Honda – The Japanese automotive giant will display the new technology available in their new cars such as the newly revealed Honda Accord with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Infiniti – The new Infiniti Q30 hatchback will be shown as well as the 2.0-liter four cylinder Q50.

Jaguar – Are the British late to the SUV party? I think not! Just like Bentley, Jaguar will unveil their SUV as the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, the F-Pace; a luxurious SUV out to take customers away from the Audi Q5, Porsche Macan and the AMG version of the Mercedes GLC.

2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show will be this year’s largest auto show in the world. It will also be the best auto show yet.

Kia – A refresh version of the Kia Cee’d as well as the new Sportage crossover based on the Kia KX3 Concept will be revealed. Hotter Optima version named Optima GT will also be revealed.

Lamborghini – The Italian supercar maker will unveil the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder.

Lotus – The British company’s quickest production road car ever the Lotus 3-Eleven will be displayed.

Mazda – Koeru coupe like crossover concept which will display Mazda’s SUV and crossover new design language.

Mercedes-Benz – The C205 2016 Mercedes C-Class coupe will have its public debut, and the 4.0-liter Turbo V8 C205 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe will be unveiled as well. Mercedes will also show the S-Class convertible. It’s also possible that they may show the coupe GLC.

MINI – The new Clubman will display its more luxurious features as well as more its larger size. The word Mini is rendered useless as the new Clubman is bigger than the outgoing Countryman.

Nissan – The upgraded Leaf will be shown, and it will have a range up to 160 miles on a full charge. That’s a 100% improvement over the outgoing model.

Peugeot – Possible production version of the Peugeot 308 R-Hybrid with nearly 500-horsepower.

Porsche – The Stuttgart based sports car maker will display the facelifted version of the 991 911 range dubbed the 991.2 and with it the German company says goodbye to the naturally aspirated engines that are replaced with their turbocharged versions. Visual changes will be minimal, and Porsche will also showcase a new hardcore GT series 911 with manual transmission.

2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show may see Porsche unveil the rumored electric Porsche Pajun “PAnamera JUNior” to rival Tesla Model-S, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-series.

Renault – The French company will display the new Megane which will be better in everyway.

Smart – The micro-car brand will display the new Cabriolet, as well as the Electric drive version of the new Smart car.

Suzuki – The Japanese automaker is bringing the Baleno name back to rival the Mini and also to replace Swift.

Vauxhall – The all new seventh generation Vauxhall Astra will be unveiled as the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show.

Ferrari F12 GTO aka Speciale

A very fast and powerful version of the Ferrari F12 is coming out soon and it’s named the Ferrari F12 GTO.

The new Ferrari is the successor to the exclusive, and crazy Ferrari 599 GTO.

The new Ferrari F12 GTO also rumored as Speciale is powered by a HY-KERS coupled V12 that produces a total output of 800-horsepower.

The naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V12 isn’t turbo-charged like the Ferrari 488 GTB or GTS, instead it uses the same system displayed in the Ferrari 599 GTB HY-KERS Hybrid Concept back in 2010.

2016 Ferrari F12 GTO

New reports indicate that the new Ferrari F12 GTO will be over 400 lbs lighter than the F12 Berlinetta

The 2016 Ferrari F12 GTO pays homage to its predecessors by incorporating design cues from the Ferrari 288 GTO, 250 GTO and the Ferrari 250 Lusso.

The new member of the Ferrari GTO club should be able to rocket its driver from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, and go on to hit the 120 mph mark in 7 seconds with top speed electronically limited to 230 mph.

Ferrari has been turbocharging almost everything they have to offer, however they remain faithful to their naturally aspirated V12 and they will not turbocharge it in the future.

Instead of turbocharging their V12 models, Ferrari has instead decided to use the technology they’ve built for their Formula 1 cars, which has given their racing division the Scuderia Ferrari success in the 2015 F1 season.

2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor show will see the official unveiling of the Ferrari F12 GTO, along with the 488 Spider aka GTS.

2016 Ferrari F12 GTO

If Ferrari 599 GTO’s recent sales are any indication, the F12 GTO will be a sound investment.

The Ferrari 599 GTO’s list price was $450,000 and they’re going over $650,000 at the time of this writing.

I estimate that the upcoming Ferrari F12 GTO’s base price would be something in the neighborhood of $550,000.

We’re only a little over a month away from Ferrari’s official unveiling of the F12 GTO September 15th, 2015.

The 2016 Ferrari 488 GTS features a retractable hardtop roof similar to the one in 458 Italia Spider and it only only needs 14 seconds to open.

The 2016 Ferrari 488 GTS is capable of a 2.8 seconds 0-60 mph and top speed of over 200 mph.

The 2016 Ferrari 488 GTS is only available with the 7 gears F1 dual clutch transmission that sends power to rear wheels.

The 2016 Ferrari 488 Spider is set to be unveiled this September at the 2015 IAA FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW.

It is rather curious timing that Ferrari has revealed the new 488 Spider just as its parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is preparing to spin Ferrari off and file for its IPO.

Ferrari will be listed on the New York Stock Exchange, however due to exclusivity nature of the Ferrari brand, its sales are unlikely to grow more than the promised 10,000 cars a year (up from 7,000 in 2014).

Countdown to 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe reveal (Time of writing 7/27/2015)

Mercedes-Benz has been teasing the new C205 C-Class coupe for some time now, however they have mainly focused on teasing the new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe.

As we approach the online unveiling of the new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe, more and more details surface.

Here’s a recap of what we know about the new Mercedes-AMG C-Class Coupe:

2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe C205

Just like its sedan version the W205 Mercedes-AMG C63, the C205 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe comes in two models the C63 Coupe and C63 S Coupe.

The new Mercedes-AMG C-Class Coupe is longer, wider, and lower than its predecessor the C204 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG.

The new AMG Coupe’s roof is almost 2 inches lower than the model it replaces.

2016 C63 Coupe has pillarless doors

2016 C63 Coupe is powered by a 4.0-liter AMG biturbo V8 that produces 470 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque and will only be available with 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission and Rear-wheel drive layout.

2016 C63 S Coupe will be powered by a 4.0-liter AMG biturbo V8 that produces 505 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, with 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission and Rear-wheel drive layout, however there are rumors and pictures to suggest that the S model of the AMG C-Class will have an optional AMG tuned 4Matic all-wheel drive system.

Mission: Beat BMW M4 around the track

The 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe is designed to be sportier than its sedan version, and more suitable to take on track duties.

The lower roof-line equates to lower seats which are lower by one inch compared to the outgoing W204 C63 AMG, and that allows for more headroom which would accommodate wearing driving helmet while tracking the monster V8.

Lower seats mean lower center of gravity, and along with tuned suspension and steering exclusive to the C63 coupe now only does the coupe handle better than its sedan version, it’s also faster around a track.

Wider rear arches = Wider rear tires

Mercedes-AMG has designed the new C63 Coupe to be sportier than anything else they offer save for the AMG GT and GT-S, and that results in less practical driving experience.

New official “spy shots” released by Mercedes-AMG suggest wider rear arches that house larger wheels it’s likely that the new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe sports 255/35R19 front and 275/35R19 rear tires, however I personally hope for 255/35R19 front and 285/35R19 rear tires standard.

Comes August 19th, 2015 all details will be public.

Performance is the New C63 Coupe’s main focus

Honda chose Silicon Valley as it is world’s capital of technology and Honda used the unveiling to highlight the opening of its research and development center in Mountain View that is tasked to work on future mobility, internet connected vehicles, autonomous technology, and much more advanced techs geared towards future of automotive.

Another reason is that the 2016 Honda Accord is Honda’s most technologically advanced vehicle to date, and this unveiling back’s tech giants’ role in future of Automotive Industry.

The 2016 Honda Accord continues to offer both 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder versions with automatic or manual transmissions.

The new Accord is adopting the Honda/Acura corporate look by integrating LED headlights and shield front grille, and for the first time Honda Accord has standard LED tail-lights on all trims.

Mountain View, California, July 23, 2015 – Honda introduced a refreshed 2016 Honda Accord loaded with advanced technology in Silicon Valley today, the first time the company has launched a new vehicle in the U.S. tech hub.

Coming to market in August, the 2016 Honda Accord will be the first Honda model and among the first high-volume cars in the marketplace to feature both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These and other major upgrades to technology and features make it the most high-tech Accord ever.

The 2016 Honda Accord Sedan and Coupe receive dynamic new styling, a new Display Audio touchscreen interface, and Honda Sensing, the most comprehensive suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies in the midsize car class. The 2016 Honda Accord also adds HD Radio, heated rear seats, front and rear parking sensors, and a number of other new features and technology to be revealed in coming weeks.

Details on the 2016 Honda Accord Hybrid will be announced at a later date.

2016 Honda Accord Exterior and Interior design

The 2016 Honda Accord gets a major facelift with sportier, more sophisticated styling, front and rear. In front is a more sharply creased and intricately structured bumper fascia with outside edges that tuck into intake-like meshed areas that house new LED fog lights (Sport trim and above).

A new aluminum hood features sharper character lines that meet up with a brighter, more expressive front grille. In the rear, the Accord gets restyled LED taillights and a similarly aggressive rear bumper fascia redesign.

While all models feature restyled wheels, the Accord Sedan (Sport and Touring trim) and Coupe (Touring, new for Cupe) get new, larger 19-inch wheels and tires. The Touring sedan also gets a new rear deck spoiler. All models, Coupe and Sedan, feature the expanded use of LED lighting – LED taillights for all models, LED headlights for the new Touring Coupe, and LED daytime running lights (DRLs) for Sport and above trims.

Honda Sensing

All 2016 Honda Accords also can now be equipped with Honda Sensing, among the most comprehensive suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies in the class. Honda Sensing includes a Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and is available as a standalone option on all trims with the exception of Touring, where Honda Sensing is included as standard equipment.

Also, all 2016 Honda Accords feature a standard Multi-Angle Rearview Camera and Expanded View Driver’s Mirror and, for the first time, new auto high-beam headlights (Touring trim) that enhance nighttime visibility and driving convenience by defaulting to the high-beam setting and automatically switching to low beams when an oncoming vehicle is detected.

Display Audio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

The Accord audio and digital experience also is significantly upgraded with the application of a 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen interface featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, on EX and above trims, as well as available HondaLink Assist (e911) and HD Radio. The intuitive and easy-to-use capacitive touchscreen lets users swipe, tap and pinch—just like on a tablet or smartphone to control the vehicle’s audio system, display settings and other advanced features.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are designed to support seamless smartphone integration and offer a multitude of new functions and features.

Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and puts them right on your car’s built-in display. You can get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, and listen to music right from the touchscreen or by voice via Siri. Supported apps include Phone, Messages, Maps, Music and compatible third party apps. Apple CarPlay is compatible with iOS 7.1 or later and iPhone 5 or later.

Android Auto was designed to give drivers a simple, intuitive way through touch and voice to minimize the potential for distraction so the driver can stay focused on the road. Compatible with Android 5.0 and higher, Android Auto features Google Maps, Google Now, messaging, music and numerous popular apps.

To take full advantage of these new systems and features, the 2016 Honda Accord’s new 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen is paired with an upper 7.7-inch high-resolution display screen and steering wheel-mounted controls. The upper screen can display audio settings, turn-by-turn directions, time and trip information, LaneWatch and Rearview Camera displays, incoming calls, SMS text messages when stopped, and parking sensor alerts.

Upgraded Features

The Accord value proposition is further bolstered by new standard and available features: Accord EX and above trims (Sedan and Coupe) with automatic transmission get remote engine start, 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen and HD Radio. SiriusXM satellite radio and Homelink remote, previously on EX-L and Touring, are now standard on EX and above trims.

Sport and above trims in the sedan lineup also get a new 60/40 split and folding rear seat, previously a one-piece folding design. The Accord Sedan in Touring trim gets heated rear seats, front and rear parking sensors and new rain-sensing windshield wipers.

Advanced Powertrains

The 2016 Honda Accord will continue to be offered with two advanced Honda engines: a direct-injected (DI) 2.4-liter inline i-VTEC 4-cylinder and a 3.5-liter VTEC V6 that is the most powerful engine offered in a Honda sedan to date.

Available transmissions include a sporty and fuel-efficient continuously variable transmission (CVT) for the 4-cylinder engines, unique 6-speed manuals for the 4-cylinder and V6 engines, and a 6-speed automatic for V6 models.

Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4

Stephan Winkelmann, the President and CEO of Lamborghini told AUTOCAR that Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 production plans have been cancelled in favor of the Urus SUV.

Introduced in 2015 Paris Motor Show, the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 was created to demonstrate Lamborghini’s abilities to adapt to the changing Supercar market.

When Ferrari launched LaFerrari, McLaren launched P1 and Porsche launched the 918 Spyder and the new era of mid-engined plug-in hybrid Supercars began.

Lamborghini however didn’t have anything to compete with the likes of Ferrari and Porsche, however they stole the spotlights with the $4.5 million limited Veneno and Veneno Roadster powered by a 6.5-liter NA V12 that produces over 750 horsepower.

Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4

Lamborghini Asterion produces over 900 horsepower and is capable of 0-60 mph of 3 seconds, with top speed limited to 200 mph.

“Asterion was built to show what we would do if the regulations forced us to have 30 miles of electric range as well as high-speed performance.” -Stephan Winkelmann, the President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.

Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4

The reality of the matter is that luxury and high performance SUVs sell like hot cakes as evident with Mercedes-AMG G63, and Porsche Cayenne’s sales figures.

The Lamborghini Urus SUV is launching in 2018 and it will be a huge money maker for VW Group, the parent company of Audi who owns Lamborghini.

The Lamborghini Urus SUV, just like its Bentley cousin the Bentayga SUV will be based on the Porsche Cayenne’s platform and powered by the same V10 engine that powers the mighty Huracan, with up to 600 horsepower.

VW Group’s geneous platform sharing equates to high profitability, and that helps Lamborghini continue to produce high performance Supercars in years to come.

Trading the heavy, and large Lamborghini Asterion Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) V10 aspirated engine that’s mated to 3 electric motors for world’s fastest SUV feels just right.

Tesla Roadster based on Lotus Elise

Tesla Motors seems incapable of offering more than one model for sale at a time. First came the Tesla Roadster in 2008 which ended production in 2012 and then Tesla shifted its focus to Model S, a luxury five door hatchback.

For what feels like an eternity, Tesla Motors has been promising their newest cars, the Model X a Fully electric high-performance luxury SUV/minivan like crossover and Model 3 a fully electric Mercedes C-Class and BMW 3 series competitor.

Model X

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors has taken to his company’s blog recently and in my opinion revealed a little too much and that has contributed to their stock TSLA soaring to $282.26 a share today, only $9 a share lower than its highest state.

Tesla will begin delivery of its Model X to its customers by end of September 2015, and Model 3 will go on sale by August, 2017.

Now available with Ludicrous Mode and 2.8 seconds 0-60 mph

There is now an option to upgrade your Model S’ battery pack output from 1300 to 1500 Amps which results in a 0 to 60 mph time of 2.8 seconds and a quarter mile time of 10.9 seconds, and they call it Ludicrous Mode.

BMW i5 hasn’t come out yet, and it’s already outclassed by the new upgraded Model S.

With BMW investing more and more into its BMW i division, Tesla needs to continue to innovate in order to keep its bread and butter, the Model S relevant.

Green Cars have their own type of buyers and quite frankly the Model S is aging, and every single one on the road looks just like the other.

I’m hoping that Elon Musk reads this and realizes that the Model S needs a visual revamp very quickly.

Elon Musk has revealed that they are working on the Roadster successor which will be faster than the Ludicrous Mode available in Mode S, and it will most likely be just as fast as the Porsche 918 Spyder.

Next generation Tesla Roadster is due to go on sale in August, 2019 and for it to be on par with the now sold out Porsche 918 Spyder which cost over $850,000 it needs to beat a 2.2 seconds 0 to 60 mph.

The original Roadster had a range of 245 miles on a single charge, and Tesla has an upgrade the current Roadster owners can purchase which consists of new aerodynamic upgrades, tires and new batteries which gives the all electric sports car an impressive 400 miles range on a single charge.

It’s a shame that only 2,500 Roadsters were ever built, and currently they sell for $70,000 to $100,000 in used car market (mileage depending).
