Orangeburg, NY Dominican College and its Board of Trustees are pleased to announce that Terry Allerton, President of Holt Construction, will be celebrated at a reception in his honor, held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Three Sixty°, 10 Desbrosses Street, New York City. Mr. Allerton is being recognized for his outstanding professional leadership, his philanthropic community commitments, and his high ethical standards.

Terry Allerton began his career with Holt as a Project Manager and became President in 1995. With the help of his talented colleagues, Mr. Allerton has grown the company from annual sales of $7 million to approximately $150 million and has added offices in Newark, Manhattan, and Boston to the home office in Pearl River, which was established in 1919. In 2011, Mr. Allerton published Ultimate Construction Checklists, a “how to” book of over 2,000 pages written for professionals in the construction industry.

Raised in Canton, Ohio, Terry Allerton is one of six children born to Mille and Leslie Allerton. A strong basketball player from an early age, Mr. Allerton was awarded a basketball scholarship to Baldwin Wallace College. As a senior there, he became the school’s leading scorer and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. In 1968, he was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA and, upon being released, played two years for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in the Industrial League, traveling to various countries building relationships on behalf of Goodyear and the U.S.A.

Mr. Allerton married his wife, Cathy, in 1996. They make their home Saddle River, NJ where they and their extended family gather often. Daughter Stephanie, who is board certified in autism and teaches, married Jamie Fox in 2009 and Tara, a VP at Digitas advertising, married Joe Arciprete in 2011—as a dad, Mr. Allerton could not be prouder of his daughters and the choices they made in husbands.

Builders of more than construction projects, the Allertons have made it a priority to build real opportunities for others. Among the organizations they are actively involved with is Bridging the Gap, a non-profit that builds suspension bridges in Kenya – helping families to access food, medical care, and schooling for their children. For ten years, the Allertons have hosted a fundraiser at their home for the St. Mary of the Isle Food Pantry, building a safety net that helps people who are homeless get back on their feet.

Mr. Allerton says that he cannot express his appreciation and thanks enough to all of those who believed in him and to this country where, with passion and perseverance, he believes anything is possible.

Dominican College is pleased to salute an individual whose leadership and compassionate service has helped to build resources for so many. Monies raised from this event will help support the expansion of Dominican College’s athletic facility – the Hennessy Center. For more information about the 40th Annual Dominican College Grand Reception and Awards Ceremony or to make a reservation, please contact Mary Lichtman, Director of Special Events at (845) 848-7406 or specialevents@dc.edu.

The building includes retail, industrial and office space for the new glass manufacturing facility.

For more than 30 years, Seger Glass built a reputation for quality and service. When the decision had been made to expand their business, the owners opted to build a versatile yet affordable building that would accommodate all their business needs for office and retail space as well as an industrial area for the manufacture of their glass products. After looking at all their options, they agreed that pre-engineered steel buildings were the only way to go and contacted Universal Steel Buildings Corp, sole supplier of Olympia Steel Buildings.

The multi-use pre-engineered steel building designed and provided by Universal Steel Buildings Corp.’s metal building design technicians, estimators and consultants is both attractive and functional, displaying the best of metal buildings design and technology and providing the ample clearspan space the growing business would require.
The building is divided into four functional areas. The attractive new building features a 5,000 sq. ft. retail showroom and includes four offices and a lunchroom. Behind the showroom is a large industrial space with 30’ ceilings. Nine overhead doors provide easy access for bringing in raw materials and taking out finished product. Several large cranes were easily accommodated into the building design and make for easy transportation of materials inside the building.

“Olympia Steel Buildings have helped hundreds of growing businesses like Seger Glass build multi-functional buildings,” declared Arnold Davis, company President. “We understand that each company has specific space requirements and budgetary constraints and our sales technicians work with them every step of the way to design and supply a pre-engineered steel building that meets their unique business requirements.”

SAINT LOUIS, MO – A newly formed mobile surveillance company in the Midwest is simplifying construction site security. 24/7 Onsite Cameras is using advanced technologies and a variety of rental video surveillance products to provide companies with wireless solutions for monitoring job sites remotely. The company is a full service provider for temporary or long-term wireless video surveillance systems and a dealer for the Videofied product line, utilizing totally wireless motion detectors to provide instant video alerts of intrusions.

The company sells and rents units to construction companies, entertainment venues, federal and local law enforcement authorities, State Department of Transportation and other commercial and industrial companies where remote monitoring is necessary or assets are at risk.

Former equipment executive Keith Jackson founded 24/7 Onsite Cameras with the end-user in mind. “We give our customers the solutions they need with instant access to monitor their properties from almost anywhere in the world,” Jackson said. “We will rent one of these units by the day, week, month or year based on the temporary need of the customer. It can be set up and operational within minutes of arriving on site.”

The units are an ideal option for out-of- state building owners who need to monitor the build progress of a project in another location from their home office. Rental video surveillance is also beneficial for the contractor on site. “Imagine the creditability a contractor now commands by not just listing their portfolio of projects in a bid but bringing out an I-Pad to show their potential client current projects “Live” under construction,” Jackson explained.

The recent addition of Videofied means 24/7 On Site Cameras can also provide customers with a construction site security system that is an unplugged, affordable, extremely portable security system. Videofied features movable remote sentries that provide instant video alerts of intrusions. “Videofied can be installed anywhere and moved around for any situation,” Jackson said. “Your video security system literally goes with you. The system with 10-15 cameras can be carried in a briefcase from jobsite to jobsite,” Jackson added. The Videofied system can be set up quickly, directed at specific assets such as equipment or material deliveries to protect against theft or vandalism.

Founded in 2010 by Jackson, 24/7 Onsite Cameras, Inc. specializes in temporary security solutions. The company carries products that eliminate the need for wiring and lengthy set up time. Rental units are delivered to the customer’s site 24/7/365. For more information on the company’s products as well as custom units please visit the company’s website (http://www.247onsitecameras.com/).

Beele Engineering’s calculation software, designed to support users when calculating the materials requirements for sealed cable or pipe penetrations, now includes even more sealing solutions. The current version now calculates the RISE or RISWAT insert sleeves, the RISE, RISWAT or NOFIRNO filler sleeves, ACTIFOAM spare filling sheets, the RISE or RISE/ULTRA crushers and the DRIFIL, FIWA or NOFIRNO sealant.

After entering the dimensions of the conduit opening and the amount and outer diameters of the ducted cables or pipes, the software calculates the amount of material. It is easy to switch between the several systems and also between A-class, H-class, EMC and watertight penetrations. Based on the entered data, a drawing appears on the computer screen showing also the remaining free space in the conduit opening. Furthermore, the filling rate of the cable penetrations is shown. Warnings appear for deviations of the certified configurations and for overfilling the transits or exceeding filling rates.

All calculated transits for a created project can be stored in a database. Order and calculation forms can be shown on screen for project totals and single transits. The material lists can be printed and/or exported to MS Word. The list displays the selected system, cable (or pipe) specifications, and the sealing material requirements. All transits in a project can be selected to create a similar list for all materials for the whole project.

The user-friendly software runs in Windows and automatically checks for updates at regular intervals, thus ensuring that the user has the latest version available at all times.

Copies of the free material calculation software can be downloaded from the website www.beele.com.

Beele Engineering is market leader in the field of sealing solutions for the fire safe and gas and watertight sealing of pipe and cable penetrations. This position is based on the company’s ongoing R&D and innovation, advanced manufacturing technology and first class service. All Beele’s the products are developed and manufactured on the basis of an integrated approach to fire safety.

NEW YORK—February 25, 2009— ABLE Rigging successfully demobilized three cranes in five days to beat the deadline for New York’s annual crane moratorium. The ABLE team had to jump down three cranes before November 23, 2009 in order to save the contractors over a hundred thousand dollars during the moratorium. The three locations were all in Manhattan in close proximity to subways and commercial towers. All three jobs required multiple street closures.

The demobilization of the three cranes began on Wednesday, November 18, on West 51st Street, a nighttime job that began at 10 p.m., followed by a second crane demobilized at 123 Washington Street on Saturday, November 21, and a third on 45th Street on Sunday, November 22.

The first crane dismantled was a freestanding, 11-section Favco 220 90’ boom, used at maximum height on West 51st Street. The job site was close to Rockefeller Center, home to television network NBC and the Radio City Music Hall as well as several other commercial towers. ABLE crews had to work at night to minimize the disruption to these businesses. The crane was erected in September 2009 for the fabrication of a concrete superstructure lifting a Max 18K concrete bucket. The crew used a Liebherr LTM 1250, 77K counterweight and a Terex RT 335 second assist to complete the job. The dismantling took 11 hours.

The crane used at the Washington Street site was a Liebherr 540 HC-L 131 boom 100K counterweight erected to maximum height, plus a 700’ external climber, with six external building tie-ins erected to 38 20’ sections (760’). A Liebherr LTM 1250, 159K counterweight, 204 boom, half outriggers and Link-Belt RTC 8040 second assist were used in the demobilization of the crane. The crane was erected in September 2008 for the erection of concrete superstructure exterior curtain wall. The job took 16.5 hours while crews worked in a very restricted space that only allowed the use of half outriggers on both sides of the crane.

At the West 45th Street site, a freestanding Favco 220 105’ Boom erected 35 sections 455’ using a Luffer, externally-tied external climbing unit with four building tie-ins. The crane took 12.5 hrs to take down 3 days to remove all tie ins and 22 sections using a Liebherr LTM 1250, 104K counterweight, 204 Boom and a Link-Belt RTC 8040, second assist. The crane was erected in August 2008 for the erection of a concrete superstructure exterior curtain wall and HVAC units.

The ultimate challenge with these jobs was the logistics. ABLE crews had to move more than 40 trailer loads out of the city with no staging area at any of the three job sites. With all three sites in close proximity to subways, ABLE crews had to carefully monitor the ground loadings put down by the assist crane. They also had to identify subsurface structures and plan supports and mats to minimize ground pressure. The absolute bare minimum counterweight needed in order to keep outrigger loads as low as possible.

ABLE Rigging works as a standalone rigging company and utilized the same crew for all three jumps. Master rigger Robert LaChapelle served as supervisor for all three job sites with a crew of tower crane demobilization specialists led by rigging foreman Vincent J. Bill.
“All that any of us do is run cranes, rig them and disassemble them,” said LaChapelle. “That day in day out experience is the only thing that makes this work safe. Experience, professionalism and preparation were the keys to ABLE Rigging’s ability to execute these three unique and challenging jobs in such a short time frame.”
