Reconfiguring the Ordinary - Yong Joo Kim

Yong Joo Kim, a native of Seoul Korea, received her B.F.A. in Metals and Textile design from Sookmyung Women’s University and her M.F.A. in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from the Rhode Island School of Design. She was one of the finalists for the 2009 LEAP Award for emerging artists.

Her work has been exhibited internationally at numerous museums and galleries including The Society of Contemporary Craft (Pittsburgh, PA), The Society of North American Goldsmith (Philadelphia, PA), Center On Contemporary Art (Seattle, WA) and GalleryHL (Seoul, Korea).

She currently resides in Providence, Rhode Island where she lives and works.

Love this puffer fish bottle which was added to the HCJ Friends Flickr pool a while back.

I don't know much about Winona (aka: artbywinona) other than she's a multi discipline artist.

Have been keeping up with the "Ring a Day" project mainly on Twitter and Flickr, though there is a Facebook page too.

It's pitched as is "an exercise in creative exploration", which, along with the demands of the project (a ring a day!!) mean the works are full of whimsy and humour with the occasional "real world" piece thrown in.
This make it a real joy to keep track of.

Although she(?) is a contact with HCJ on Flickr and a member of the HCJ Friends group I don't really know much more about MetalRiot.

Sprout - Vina Rust

Vina Rust is a metalsmith based in Seattle, creating handmade one-of-a-kind or limited edition jewelry.

Sterling and fine silver, copper, gold leaf, liver of sulfur patina 28.5 cm x 23 cm x 1.5 cm roller-printed, hydraulically die-formed, hand forged, electroformed, hand-fabricated, gilded.

I haven't had much (if any contact) but have been an admirer of her work for a few years since discovering her work through building the HCJ Project.
She's one of the people who would certainly get my vote to become a full site member should she express an interest in becoming involved.

Growing jewellery - Hafsteinn Juliusson

I like this "growing jewellery" by Hafsteinn Juliusson, product designer from Reykjavik, Iceland.

Featuring tiny Icelandic moss plants sprouting in their stainless steel bases, the pieces are said to be a "clash of jewellery and gardening".

Like all plants they'll need to be looked after well: watering and so forth but they don't need to be pruned because the moss grows so slowly.

It is important to take good care of Growing Jewellery: Hafsteinn Juliusson claims that, if looked after, the plants can last up to six months.

Hafsteinn's pieces were designed for city dwellers, for people in metropolitan cities and is an experiment in drawing nature toward man. He wants to reach a diverse range of people: approaching design from new perspectives involved with society and ecology, avoiding mainstream mass production.

Emily Watson's HCJ artist entry was added for her because she won the free artists entry competition held in early 2009.

As a full site member she can update the entry herself and also add new content to the main project site.

Pillow Talk - Blind Spot Jewellery

I like this, and also the way the title plays with the visual.

Janos doesn't have his artist profile up on the HCJ Project yet. He is registered in the forums though, so if he wants to ask any questions in the help forum: how to go about doing that I'd be happy to help.

Janos started and administers the Bench mess group on Flickr which also features on the main HCJ Project.

Found this wooden brooch by 15hands (Flickr name) in the HCJ Friends Flickr group pool.

It's not really clear to me who 15hands is, but I was charmed by this brooch so thought I'd post it!
.... I wonder if they have joined the HCJ Project?

Until some site members step forward and ask for direct posting access to the Contemporary Jewellery Showcase (this blog) I'll keep my eye on what is added to the HCJ Friends group on Flickr and pick stuff to post from here from there.

Items already show on the HCJ Project itself, but posts here are also sent out as a tweet treat for people following @hcjproject.
So until we sort out some more authors here, have the chance of your work being posted by adding it to the HCJ friends pool.

Jillian has been devolving her own style and personality in her work since way before I "met" her (sometime in 2008).

She's been one of the most communicative artists I've had contact with while working to establish and build the ideas and concepts which form the HCJ Project.
So It seems fitting that as I swing this champagne bottle against the side of the newly modified "Contemporary Jewellery Showcase" blog, that I use one of Jillian's images from Flickr to post the first jewellery post.

As full site member Jillian, along with other members, will be invited to post here herself.
There is also public article submission through the main menu: but full HCJ members like Jillian (and others) will be direct posting to the Contemporary Jewellery Showcase in the very near future.
