The latest rumors from NFL-ville seem to be that Tarvaris Jackson is going to demand a trade if Brett Favre gets signed. Of course, not many people are talking about these rumors, because, well…. it’s about Tarvaris Jackson.

Don’t get me wrong… I’ve been a T-Jack supporter thus far. I think two years ago he had no receivers to throw to and a coach that didn’t trust him, and I think last year he got thrown under the bus by Childress so that Childress didn’t have to take the blame for a slow start on himself. I was very much against the benching of Jackson, and I was NOT a fan of Gus Frerotte being the starting QB.

That being said, Tarvaris Jackson being on the trading block isn’t exactly going to shake up the league. If Tarvaris demands a trade, the Vikings will get little to nothing for him, and Tarvaris will never start in the NFL again (barring injury to whatever QB he’s backing up).

On the flip side, if he stays in Minnesota and sits behind Favre for a year, or more ideally, two years, he’ll have a shot at at least competing for the starting job after Favre retires one or two more times.

To be honest, Tarvaris doesn’t strike me as the “demand a trade” type of guy, so I’m not sure I buy into these rumors a whole lot.

As for the Vikings point of view, though… I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: If the Vikings have to choose between Jackson and Rosenfels as a backup, they need to keep Jackson. I’m not saying Jackson is the surefire answer after Favre leaves the Vikings, but he’s entering his fourth NFL season, and Rosenfels is entering his 9th. If the Vikings get two years out of Favre, at the end of that time, Jackson will be entering his 6th season, and Rosenfels his 11th. If the Vikes are going to keep one of the, they need to keep Jackson, just because he’s at the stage of his career that sitting behind Favre could potentially help him improve. Rosenfels is probably near the peak of his game right now.

I follow Sidney Rice on Twitter. Today he attended Larry Fitzgerald’s workout in the twin cities. This is what Sidney had to say about it:

Workout with Larry Fitzgerald and great technique work from Chris Carter today. blog on my website later on this afternoon. GOD bless!

It would be nice if Fitzgerald and Carter could rub off on Sidney a little! I mean, Sidney is a fine receiver (when he can stay healthy), but those are two great people to be learning from!

Percy Harvin

I thought this was an exciting thing to read, so I thought I’d pass it on. It’s an open letter posted on CBS Sports from a Florida Gators fan to all Minnesota Vikings fans.

Written by James Brown, Gatorsfirst.com Co-Founder

This letter is to ensure you realize the joy you are about to experience watching Percy Harvin these coming years. He is leaving our Gator-centric world and entering yours, and if you feel anything but giddy, I am here to let you in on what you’re about to receive.

Percy Harvin is a fantastically talented player. And any ‘character issues’ the draft talking heads have been feeding you are complete fabrication.

Florida fans used to be frustrated with Dan Mullen. They thought his offense was too predictable, either the Harvin or Tim Tebow show. The truth is, if the offense was getting stale, and needed a play, we needed the ball in Percy Harvin’s hands. He’d run that deadly counter (just ask South Carolina, first vid, or Arkansas, second vid), or take a direct snap. The guy is a game changer.

Be sure to read the rest of the letter HERE

This news is a couple days old, but it’s still pretty interesting.

Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals held a workout session in the Twin Cities, and one of the people invited to work out with him was Jerry Rice. Reporters caught up to Rice and asked him what he thought of Favre wanting to come back.

Read the interview HERE

It’s an interesting opinion. Rice made it sound like if he was Vikings management, he’d rather go with Tarvaris Jackson than Brett Favre, but that he can understand Favre wanting to play even if he’s past his prime. I mean, afterall, Jerry Rice played several seasons after he stopped being the best in the league, so if anyone understands, it should be him, right?

Dumb Rules

Okay, so this isn’t strictly a Vikings post, and it’s not even strictly an NFL post…. or even strictly a football post, but I thought it was interesting, and I’m guessing most of you are fans of several sports, anyway.

Today I stumbled upon a blog post entitled The 10 Dumbest Rules In Sports, and I thought I’d share:

10. Only One Foot Down for a Complete Pass (NCAA Football) - With the complete integration between college football and the NFL, why not have college receivers abide by the same reception rules so they can start working on getting both feet down years earlier? Catches where both feet land in-bounds are much more dramatic anyway (like Santonio Holmes’ game winning TD in the Super Bowl).

9. Maintain Possession Through the Catch, Even Out of Bounds (NFL) - A receiver cuts towards the sideline, catches the ball while dragging both toes, then when he falls and hits the ground out-of-bounds the ball pops loose. No catch. Why not? He had possession when he was still in-bounds and what happens after that shouldn’t matter, the same way there’s an invisible plane at the end zone and whether the player loses possession or not after the nose of the ball crosses that plane doesn’t matter because it’s already a touchdown. Too many deserving catches have been negated.

8. Offensive Interference vs. Defensive Interference (NFL) - So a quarterback can chuck the ball 50 yards down field and if a defender holds the receiver they get the ball at the spot of the foul, yet if a receiver holds the defender to prevent an interception it’s only a 15-yard penalty? This seems unbalanced, although the recent change to interference only being called if the ball was already in the air (otherwise it’s just defensive holding) is a step in the right direction.

Click HERE to read the rest of the list

Defensive Ends Kevin and Pat Williams expect to find out from the Hennepin county judge today if they can play football while their StarCaps case makes it’s way through the appeals.

Keep in mind that it was the Hennepin County judges who overturned the suspension in the first place. I think the Williams Wrecking Crew will come out of today’s ruling okay.

For them, the more important one will be finding out how the federal court appeals turn out.

Just a reminder, they face up to a four game suspension because they were taking StarCaps. StarCaps is a weight control supplement that contains an ingredient that was banned by the NFL. The Williams Wall claims that they were not informed of this by the league, so they should not be suspended. The League insists that the data was made available.
