Theme: Are we going to burn or freeze?

Aim: Our world is getting polluted rapidly from many sides for the last two hundred years. The gases comes out of the factories' and houses' chimneys and of the exhaust of the motor vehicles -having increased rapidly after the Industrial Revolution -are causing the climate changes which have never seen before since the Ice Age, which was millions of years ago. The regression of gradually melting glaciers' to the polars and the loss of ice cap, on high mountains, the rise of sea level, the migration of plant & fish species, the decrease in the number of bird species because of the air pollution, the rapid growth of the annual rings in trees are, of course, the indicators of rapidly warming in the earth. However, the meteorologists are talking about the probability of shutdown of the Gulf Stream warm water current, which is transporting the warm sea water from the equator to the western Europe, because of the melting of the North Pole glaciers; and finally, the possibility of a new ice age in Northwest Europe at the end. In other words, the global warming can bring our world to a new ice age at the end. It is uncertain/indefinite whether we're going to burn or freeze as a result of the global climate change. Arranging the second cartoon competition, Corum Journalists' Association aims to reflect the effects of the global climate change on natural world under the title of "Are we going to burn or freeze?" with the universal language of cartoons. I invite all cartoon artists to our competition and wish success to all/them.

The conditions of entry:
1. The competition is open to all-amateur and professional- cartoonists(from all over the world).
2. The technique is free.

There are lots of contests in US in lots of sectors. Some contests charge entry fee and some do not. A number of contests are open to both US and Canadian citizens. But for the rest of the world does not have that lots of contests available to them. So, in spite of being talented and worthy and deserving, many people around the world just don't get enough opportunities to show off what they are capable of!

I too suffered from this same problem.
My area of interest was essay contests and writing contests worldwide. But while searching for those on net, I discovered with wonder that there is no such site that lists all the global contests. Most sites paid attention mostly to contests that requires entry fees. But I was not willing to pay any entry fee as I am just a beginner and internet is a kingdom of cheats...
However, later I decided to introduce a website of my own targeting to the contest-lovers around the world. Thus http://www.contest.googlepages.com was given birth!

This website lists upcoming contests WORLDWIDE. Listed contests DO NOT charge any entry fee. This year, Microsoft is calling on young programmers, artists and technologists around the world to "imagine a world where technology enables a sustainable environment." We’re challenging students to bring their ideas to life in a multifaceted competition that comprises nine categories, each catering to a different technological or artistic affinity. Students’ work will reflect valuable, real world solutions, while giving them the opportunity to compete for cash prizes. Devices are becoming smaller, more portable and are having a greater impact on our everyday lives. Formerly the Windows Embedded Student ChallengE, this competition challenges students to go beyond the desktop, challenge your creativity, and to build a complete hardware and software solution using Windows CE and the hardware provided. A team of three-four competitors, and a faculty mentor will build a working prototype of a device that will have an impact on solving some of our world’s toughest problems.

As video games are becoming a major part of mainstream entertainment the opportunity to do something socially responsible with the medium has arrived. This year's "Xbox 360 Games for Change Challenge" will represent the first time a game development category has been available during the Imagine Cup. This year's challenge will be the ultimate test of a student's creative and technical skills as they create a game that is not only entertaining but has a social message about creating a sustainable environment. Utilizing Microsoft's ground breaking new XNA Game Studio Express, competing students from around the world will have the chance to gain international exposure for their games. Not only will cash prizes be awarded, these winners will then have an opportunity to come to Microsoft and present their entry to the Microsoft games management team for possible inclusion as a download in the popular Xbox LIVE Arcade service or MSN Games Web site. The first place team, or individual, will also win the opportunity to become an apprentice at Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business as part of its internship program. Comic-style graphics bring to life the world of Professor Hoshimi and his faithful crew of scientists and programmers as they engage in a fantasy battle of life and death. The game requires coding skills and algorithmic ability to devise and implement strategy for a multi-player head-to-head game. The results play out in a real-time 3-D environment for all to see.

Students are challenged to develop, deploy, and maintain IT systems that are efficient, functional, robust and secure. Additionally, students must demonstrate proficiency in the science of networks, databases, and servers, and the areas of analysis and decision making in IT environments.

Originals must be signed and submitted latest by the 20th march 2008 - copies or prints will not be accepted!Should the deadline not be met, the application will be disqualified and the following best entry from the first round will be nominated to take part in the final round.From the final 120 nominations the jury will select the best three in each category.
Finalist will receive a written notification and be invited as guests to the award winning ceremony in Graz/Austria.

Inspired by Diabetes Creative Expression Competition
Theme: There is no restriction on subject matter — as long as it reflects how diabetes inspires you in your family, your community or as part of a larger global community. There are four participant categories for submission, depending on the creative medium you would like to use:
Short essay or poem — 500 words or less
Photograph(s) — Up to three prints
Original drawing or painting — No larger than 43 cm x 66 cm (17" x 26")
Music — Original composition, up to three minutes in length (instrumental and lyric)
Who Can Enter: People with diabetes, children, families and friends are encouraged to enter the contest. Healthcare professionals are also invited to enter. The designated participant categories are:
Children (age sub-groups 5-6, 7-8, 9-12, 13-17 years old at the time of entry; includes children with diabetes or family members under 18)
Adult with diabetes (ages 18 and older)
Family member or friend of person with diabetes
Healthcare professional
Deadline: 31 January 2008;
Prizes:1st-3rd Place Winners : $500 USD contribution to charity and a special trophy.
Grand-Prize Winners: $5,000 USD contribution to charity, special trophy and an all-expense paid trip for the winner and a guest to attend the media briefing announcing the winners of the global competition, along with the opening of the global exhibition.

Mobile Rules! Annual Business Plan and Application Competition
About the Contest: The competition is divided into two tracks:
1. The first is for qualified developers working on mobile applications for Nokia platforms in four categories: ‘multiplayer and connected games’, ‘multimedia’, ‘enterprise’ and ‘infotainment’.
2.The second is aimed at entrepreneurs, small businesses, start-ups and academic institutions and is for business plans in the mobile space, both those designed specifically for mobile devices and those that make existing static businesses mobile.
