Clicky

Clicky is a real time web analytics service. This means that when you login and view your stats, you are seeing up to the minute data on the traffic to your web site. Most services don’t let you see what’s happening “today” until the day after.

Real time data lets you react to changes in your traffic as they occur. For example, if you had an article that hit the front page of a popular site like digg, you would see the traffic spike in Clicky immediately, along with links back to the sources sending you the traffic. Knowing this, you could make changes to your site or to the article itself to take advantage of the situation.

Snoop

Running in the System Tray (Windows) / System Status Bar (Mac) you no longer need to endlessly flip between your work and stats. When something happens, Snoop will let you know.

Snoop will run on any website or blogging platform that allows JavaScript. Simply insert the tracking snippet on any page you want tracked and we take care of the rest.

Grape is a free, open source program that allows web developers to keep accurate statistics of visitors. The program is currently in a beta testing phase, although it appears to be reasonably stable. Bugs may be reported through the Launchpad bug reporting system or at our forums, which we will address as fast as we can.

Piwik

Piwik is a PHP MySQL software program that you download and install on your own webserver. At the end of the five minute installation process you will be given a JavaScript tag. Simply copy and paste this tag on websites you wish to track (or use an existing plugin to do it automatically for you).

Yahoo! Web Analytics

Yahoo! Web Analytics is a highly customizable, enterprise-level website analytics system designed to help website businesses increase sales and visitor satisfaction, reduce marketing costs and gain new insight on online customers. WordPress.com Stats

There are hundreds of plugins and services which can provide statistics about your visitors. However I found that even though something like Google Analytics provides an incredible depth of information, it can be overwhelming and doesn’t really highlight what’s most interesting to me as a writer. That’s why Automattic created its own stats system, to focus on just the most popular metrics a blogger wants to track and provide them in a clear and concise interface.

CSSTXT is a CSS Style Generator, it allows you to play with various different font settings, ranging from sizes, colors, spacing and then outputs the CSS for you to copy and paste in your style sheet.

PX to EM

PXtoEM is a conversion tool used to convert PM PX  to EM.

Font Struct

This Word Press theme is called Colourise, it provides a great foundation layout on which you can add to in the future. A great example of this Word Press theme being used on a professional design blog is at http://www.psdvault.com/.

Selecta

This Word Press theme is a bold and bright video blog style design, it slightly reminds me of the Vimeo design. I love how the centerpiece of the design is the video, it really grabs your attention.

Magazeen

I really am surprised this Word Press theme is FREE, it is a high quality design and build and is packed to the brim with “out the box” features.

Elegent Designs Simplistic 4

Whilst this Word Press Theme does not immediately grab your attention with fluffy, bouncy graphics it does provide a solid layout for you to design on in the future. The layout is well structured and flows very well.

The Morning After

I particularly like the black and white minimalism of this Word Press Theme, “The Morning After” provides a slick and clean blog layout.

WPESP Professional Word Press Theme

This Word Press theme would provide a great theme for a design or photography portfolio. It has a JQuery content slider and I am again in shock that this is a free theme.

A very colorful and vibrant design, what more can I say !

A lovely use of images, gradients and transparencies in web design, the Word Press theme ticks all the boxes for the creative design somewhere in you !

PHP Ref

PHP Ref boasts an offline PHP reference for the IPhone, it claims it references all standard 5149 PHP functions. That’s a lot of reading!

MySQL Cheat Sheet

This app goes perfectly with PHP Ref and PHP Cheat Sheet, it provides a very handy reference to MySQL.

PHP Cheat Sheet

Made by Concentric Sky, this app is great ff you’re just starting out on PHP or like me, you want a quick PHP reference. The app has a low start rating on the Apple store, primarily because it is lacking more complex descriptions, however essentially its just an app, designed as a quick reference tool.

ISSH

Quite a few terminal apps built for the iPhone already exist, this one (ISSH) seems to stand above the rest. It costs $4.99 from Zingersoft, which is fairly expensive for design and development apps. With this SSH Client for the iPhone you can remotely connect to other machines, great for admins or anyone who wants to work on a remote server.

JQuery Cheat Sheet

If your new to JQuery or find it hard to remember, this app actually allows you code and test on the IPhone app. This app is great to learn with and as an experimentation tool.

JavaScript Cheat Sheet

Many seasoned web developers need a quick refresher course in JavaScript methods, properties and syntax from time to time.
The cheat sheet includes descriptions, properties and methods for working with strings, dates, arrays, math, DOM, regular expressions, and many more.

CSS Cheat Sheet

Great for a quick CSS reference, or a some light bedtime reading to refresh your CSS skills, this CSS cheat sheet is written and reviewed by professional web developers and designers that use CSS on a daily basis.

What The Font

If your out and about and see a great font, then “What the Font” for the IPhone is a great tool to find out what font is used. Take a photo on your IPhone, and WhatTheFont for iPhone will identify that font.

If your a stats junkie like myself then you can get to all of your reports and data with Analytics App for the iPhone. Whether you’re on the road, in a meeting, or sitting on the throne, Analytics App gives you quick and easy access to your analytics data.

There are many WordPress plug-ins to help you easily optimize your WordPress blog for search engines, if you want to increase your search engine ranking then these plugins will certainly help push your blog in the “Upward direction”.

All in One SEO Pack

A personal favorite of mine, this plugin allows you to control and optimize your blog for search engines. It will give you control of all your meta data for each post, or you can set it to work automatically and auto generate your metadata.

Google XML Sitemaps

This WordPress plugin is pretty simple it creates a compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. When you add a post, page or edit existing content it will automatically update the sitemap.

SEO Blogroll

This plugin will replace the standard WordPress links widget, it will give you full control over your outbound links within the SEO blogroll widget. You will be able to control link numbers and apply rel=”nofollow” attribute settings, to stop your page rank slipping through your fingers.

Redirection

Over long periods of time, you make changes to your blog – sometimes resulting in a broken link structure. This plugin will help you overcome this, so next time your editing a post, or upgrading you can do so with content.

Robots Meta

Hopefully if you have allowed you WordPress site to appear in the search engines, then by default your blog will be crawled and indexed. Sometimes you may want to avoid all your pages being indexed, you don’t want to get duplicate content and be punished now do you ? This will plugin will tell the search engine spider what to crawl and what to stay well away from.

SEO Smart Links

Internal links play a vital role in your blog’s SEO score. Search engines will treat your sites internal links as an indication of how well structured your website is. This is often over looked, so this is where SEO Smart links help you! It totally automates internal linking between posts, you just specify certain keywords.

SEO Friendly Images

Images on you site, should have an ALT tag and be named in the correct way, not just for SEO but also for validation. This plugin will really help automate the naming of images across your WordPress blog.

SEO Slugs

The SEO Slugs WordPress plugin removes stop words like ‘a’, ‘the’, ‘in’ from your post slugs to improve search engine optimization.

SEO Slugs Example:

When you publish a post with a title that looks like this:

“What You Can Do Immediately For Higher Rankings”,

Wordpress will automatically assign it a long filename, called a post slug:

/what-you-can-do-immediately-for-higher-rankings

SEO Slugs will strip the common words like “what”, “you” or “can” out of your post slug to make it more search engine friendly.

This is my first post here, I am simply going to highlight the areas of interest I am going to write about on Cookie Labs. I don’t want to ramble to much as I really need to get cracking on finishing articles and gathering article ideas!

So, the future of Cookie Labs is Web Design & Development, Graphic & Design Inspiration, Freebies which is always a good thing and hopefully some awesome competitions.
